One time was literally less than 15 minutes from when they called to say the car came in. Upon arrival they said it was sold the night before. so why call me to tell me the car came in? Horrible, unprofessional place. I reported the incidents to Costco and would recommend not even bothering to try to take advantage of the program because they will sell the car out from under you so they can charge some poor customer more. After driving to the store and dealing with a salesman, the car was not available. More importantly, the car was never available. Worst customer service I have ever had. Bought new car and had the same part, a coil, go bad 3 times. Car would just go dead without warning. Dangerous, especially since it was my young daughter's car. The 3rd time the car was just past its 3 year warranty and they would not fix it. Only $300 and the service manager admitted it was not normal for that part to fail 3 times in 3 years but still would not repair for free. Asked for a transfer to the dealership manager and he was immediately defensive and attacked me of all things. Asked me if I did business for free, and I told him yes, when we have a substandard product, we fix the problem at no cost to the client. That is how we retain them. He got frustrated and threw out a few more attempts at insults and hung up on me. They made me pay $150 for the estimate and, out of principle, I took it to a friend who fixed it for nothing. And funny thing, since he fixed it, have not had an issue in 3 years. Stay away from this dealership. Buy your Hyundai from any other dealership. I wish I could give a negative total of stars because my overall experience with Elgin Hyundai was negative. I went in last Saturday, after having already been there once before and extensively documented the parameters of my car search, and was victim to a classic "bait and switch". I test drove a car that I found surprisingly attractive only to be handed paperwork that reflected a price point thousands of dollars above my limit.Furthermore, the total price reflected an additional certification expense of almost $1,400 that covered less than 18,000 miles, which is a purely inflated cost that intended to deceive unwitting customers. The company has a policy that payment information discussed in house cannot be taken in any form by an interested customer to consider outside of dealership doors. This SCREAMS foul play and intent to exploit clients. This characteristic is also reflected in the company's 15 day warranty, which asserts that a warranty comes with the purchase of a car, but essentially assumes no responsibility for the condition of the car. Ultimately, the manager I dealt with on Saturday played the haggling game with me in a very demeaning way. Respectful business practice would at least maintain the hollow facade of an effort to support the feeling of a strong purchase for the customer, thus supporting a mutually beneficial agreement. On the contrary, the tactics used were that of the bottom line for the dealership, which is a fair angle to play. However, when playing that angle, it is downright disrespectful to my intellect that I would not take the time to scrupulously review financials that were significantly beyond the price point I had ever discussed. Additionally, he insulted my integrity by assuming the premise that it is of no consequence with whom I choose to finance. On my way out the door, this manager again tried to get me to make a snap decision on a purchase, rather than respecting me enough to allow for me to deeply consider an offer. When I declined, he had the audacity to engage in theatrics by scolding his sales representative in the middle of the showroom. Finally, he indignantly stormed away from our interaction without so much as a departing acknowledgement. Upon communicating these grievances to the dealership, another manager tried to haggle with me based off of the list price of the "bait" vehicle which had already been haggled down. I'm not sure what this dealership lacks more, intelligence or integrity. Regardless, this establishment only seeks to deceive its customers and I strongly advise anyone reading this post to avoid supporting it with your hard earned dollars. I'm sure a representative will read this review and give some sort of bogus apology to try and save face without acknowledging any of the points I just made. So, Elgin Hyundai, if you are reading this, don't bother responding. I've already called you out and a simple reply won't undo the blatant disgust I have for your business practices and my desire for everyone else to avoid you. I have never been treated as horribly as the General Manager Michael Meah treated me. I had a deposit down on a $50K vehicle, I was about to fully sign the deal, and GM came over, made some excuse, and told me they will give me my money back and literally kicked me out. I asked for him to clarify because the excuse he gave was ridiculous, and he said they do not want to do business with "people like me", and refused to talk further. Prior to this, I was just asking questions why they were charging me again for items that came on the car already, and also for items that they were not even going to be installed. The GM even tried to make this person by saying "how I could possibly act this way in front of my child", which I was perfectly calm and just trying to get an explanation from him. My opinion, they had someone wanting to pay more for the car, and since I already had a deposit on the car, the GM fabricated a way for me to leave very quickly. Watch out... Also, after I posted this on another review site, Michael then tried to say I was raising my voice, cursing, and treating the staff poorly. I definitely would not have done this, especially with my child there with me. Show me the video, I would be happy to apologize if I did anything like this. The depth that this General Manager will stoop to is beyond belief. I'm sure he is making money for the owner by all the double charging and charging for items that are never done, so they probably don't care, but I would never work with a place like this, or more so a person like Michael Meah. read more

Terrible experience. These people are a total scam. The certified pre owned cars they have in their inventory are not really certified but "pre certified" or at least that's what they say once you get there. They try to add a $1400 extra charge to certify the cars. On top of that, they try to charge you extra accessories and other things. I DO NOT advice going there. They are really dishonest. Well, unfortunately this review is much like the others. This dealership is charging a mandatory $2,000 in addition to another $1,500 for an extended warranty and an interior / exterior protection plan. In the past you would have had a choice as to whether or not you wanted these features. Now, this dealership thinks they can force you into products you don't need on the sole basis of making them money. Oh, and did I mention these costs are in addition to the $2,000 market adjustment?! I had routine front brake replacement done in early November. Well, a month later the front brakes were still squealing. So, I brought my car back to them so they could make whatever adjustments to stop the squealing. Well, after 2 1/2 hours of waiting, my service advisor came out and asked me if I have been driving my car. I thought that was quite odd of him to ask. I told him,"Yes I have been driving everyday." My answer seemed to stump him because he then said that the pads were not worn enough and basically said there was nothing they could do except wear down the pads. He assured me the squealing stopped. That was a lie because I got 2 miles from the dealer and they were squealing again. Since then I have contacted the dealer 3 times about this issue and have gotten NO response. As a result of their poor customer service and incompetent technician, I will no longer be using Elgin Hyundai. read more

I bought a used car from them in October, 2021 and I cannot believe how awful they are in every category. We made an appt to see the car online and after we drove an hour the car wasn't on the lot. When we found a car, tried to buy it, had to wait 3 hours for the finance guy, had to leave and come back to wait more hours, then listen to this guy's long, personal stories, which did not include what my interest rates would be, after waiting almost 9 hours to talk to him. They did 10 hard hits to my credit which they didn't tell me about, which reduced my FICO by over 50 points. When I called days later they said I could fix it easily by calling credit agencies later, which was a lie. I spent hours on the phone with each credit company who said that hard inquiries can't be removed. We had to wait a week for the car to be ready, after we were told it would take a day. When we finally picked it up, it had no bracket for a front plate, which is illegal in my state, and they said any dealer would install it for free, that wasn't true, it would cost over $100 in service fees. She is handcuffed by the General Manager Mike Meah and all decisions to resolve disputes must go through him. Misleading & Aggressive Staff I worked with online sales to receive a price for a 2021 Tucson. In order to discuss further she said I had to go into the dealership. I went to the dealer that evening with my father. The salesman assured me they had my information from the online sales department however; he went on to provide a price that was significantly higher than the online quote. The conversation went in circles and the general manager came over. I was appalled that they would not honor negotiating in the store as I was told and increased the price of the car. I told the general manager what a waste of time this was and his team was completely unprofessional. My father said it was BS. After this the general manager was upset that he had given my dad his business card at the start of this conversation and demanded it back. He proceeded to get into my father's personal space and put his hands on him as we were walking out. Under no circumstances should an employee ever place their hands on a customer. Later the evening I emailed the online sales person requesting to speak with someone about the incident. I never heard back from her. I had to contact corporate to get a response and any acknowledgment of the general managers aggressive behavior. The outcome of those conversations with corporate and the dealership owner fell short. I never thought I'd have to review a dealership because I didn't feel safe. To my knowledge that general manager is still employed. It's important to note there was another reviewer who had a very similar experience in August of 2020 and noted that the same GM tried to physically intimidate him. Do not purchase through this dealership, they took advantage of my brother and charged him for every extra package under the sun that they could and Mike claimed that it's "done on every car and part of their policy". When I called to try and get more information and resolve the situation they said they couldn't change the contract because he signed it already even though official physical delivery of the car hasn't been made. They also openly acknowledged they understood my brother did not know much about the car buying process and stuck a college student with a 28k loan for a 17k car. read more

Update 4/8/2019: My husband took our car to a different Hyundai Dealer. They looked at our car and determined that there were bolts loose on the rotors For the brakes. Fixed it at no charge, and treated my husband respectfully. Once again, great job Elgin Hyundai! ****************************** I literally just got home from the service department. I took my car in on March 21st, 2019 for an oil change. I told the guy at the counter that it was making a noise on the passenger side by the tire, but only when someone was sitting in the passenger seat. He had the mechanic look at it and we drove it together so that I could show him the noise. The mechanic came back and said that there was a bottle of water and a pop can under the seat. Problem solved. I insisted that we drive it again and the noise was still there. The guy at the counter said I would have to make an appt to come back so they could further investigate. I explained that I work Monday thru Friday and asked if I could make an appt for a Saturday. He told me they were to busy on Saturdays and I would have to bring it in after work on a Monday and they would provide a loaner car. He also said that I could make the appointment online. I did so. I get there today and the same guy was behind the counter. He asked me the problem and I told him the issue and that he said to make an appt online. HE said they have no loaner cars available and that I should have talked directly to him. I informed him that I did exactly what he told me to do and that this should be covered under the warranty. I asked to speak with someone else. He conveniently came back and said they could call Enterprise and get a loaner. HE also started questioning what I was saying the issue was, and starting talking about the drivers side, which was never an issue and paused to stare at the front of my car. He treated me poorly from the moment I arrived. I spoke with my husband and he advised me to get the car and leave. This place has done nothing but waste my time. Elgin Hyundai 1200 E. Chicago St. Elgin, IL 60120 On April 5, 2022, I bought a F-150, at the above said address from the General Manager, Mike Meah, a long-time friend of the family. It was explained from Mr. Meah that there were some existing issues; however, if I bought the Platinum Insurance warranty after 30 days I can pay the $100 deductible, file a claim and the warranty would cover everything. With that being said I purchased the truck. On May 11, 2022, I spoke to Mr. Meah regarding dropping the truck of for the work to be done under the warranty. It was physically dropped off to the above said dealership on May 16, 2022, with Micha McCarty (Service). I did not hear anything for two weeks. May 27, 2022, I contacted Mr. McCarty who informed me the warranty company is sending an evaluator for the claims made. On June 2, I was contacted by Mr. McCarthy and Mr. Meah, they informed me the claim was denied. Mr. Meah explained that he will find another warranty company or a ford manufacture warranty to go through and to cancel my current policy with Assurant. I picked the truck up the same day. And cancelled the current insurance policy with Assurant on June 8. The warranty was bought for $2315.00 as of today, August 11, 2022, I have not received the refund for this warranty policy that I was told if I bought would fix the issue with the truck. On June 23, 2022, I reached out to Mr. Meah again to see if there is any news on the new warranty for the truck so the repairs can be finished, he had no news. I reached out again since I did not hear from him on July 8, 2022, Mr. Meah said Ford warranty would not work due to them having to do a full MPI inspection. On July 14, 2022, I requested from Mr. Meah they buy the truck back due to promises that were not keep, deception and unfair practices. July 18, 2022, Mr. Meah reached out to me stating that would not work because I bought the truck willing. (Because he promised the warranty that I would be purchasing would cover all issues)" read more

Don't trust these people. They will sell a car out from under you as quick as they will take a breath. Salesman told me he would hold a car for me on Friday and we were going to close the deal the next day on Saturday. Told me I didn't need to place a deposit on it even though I offered to place one just to make sure it wouldn't be sold to someone else. I go in Saturday morning at 10am like we discussed and they tell me the car was sold Friday night. Then the GM tells me they don't take deposits and it's first come first serve even though the salesman told me not to worry about it. I was willing to come in Friday to close the deal but the salesman said not to worry we can do it Saturday. Just this weekend I'm talking to another person about buying a car and I told her about my terrible experience over at Elgin Hyundai and she said she had the same thing happen to her at Elgin Hyundai only she did place a $1,500 deposit on a car and the next day she goes in to close the deal and do the paperwork and they are just about to sell the car to another couple even though she had in writing the $1,500 deposit. I just had the worst experience of my life at this dealership. Before I went in I confirmed that the price that they listed on a Hyundai Sonata 18 did not include any military or student discounts since I had a similar issue at another dealership and I was told by an internet sales person (Hector and Tabitha) that the price was only today's special rebate and I had to get in before the holiday pricing goes away. I drove 1 hr to get to their place and the sales person told me that the price includes certain rebates that I don't qualify for and the final price would be about $4000 more than what was told to me over email and phone! When I showed them the price online for the same car, the Manager, Mike Meah came out telling me that there was some digital "glitch" and when I told him that the price was the same for a week, He said He would get it fixed and He blamed his internet sales team for the "error". At this point, I knew this was all a lie and when I told the manager Mike Meah that I would leave a bad review, He told me to get the F*** out of his place. I started recording a video of his rudeness and He told me that I was the one who used the F word. I just purchased a Sante Fe from this dealership this week. From the second I walked in the door it was a great experience. I was greeted immediately and then was helped by both the manager, Brian, and car sales guy, Matt. This was a positive experience from the start because of the amazing customer service unlike other dealerships I had been to that day. They found me a car that had everything I wanted plus more and was under budget. They found a few cars on the lot that matched what I wanted and I was able to see them all. They worked with me from start to finish and I was out of there pretty quick. They made sure I knew everything about the car before leaving their lot. Coming to a dealership, my husband and I had a reasonable expectation that all taxes would be collected at the time of our vehicle purchase given our transparency with those we worked with. However, a month after we executed our deal and auto loan documentation, we were contacted by the dealership because they failed to collect all taxes. There was no offer to work with us in a material manner to offset their oversight, as would generally be good business practice, despite my repeated request to do so. We feel taken advantage of now that we have to pay a couple hundred dollars out-of-pocket and have no option to roll it into our auto loan. The gross incompetence of this dealership and complete disregard for customer care is going to negatively impact our holiday season. Also, the utterly sexist manner in which this dealership conducts itself is unacceptable. I called several times and left a voicemails with my cell phone number asking for a call back and my husband received a call back to his cell phone instead. read more

Would give them zero if I could, I hate this dealership. Only reason I go here is because when I bought my new car they gave me free oil changes because of the option I bought with my car. They are rude, and won't give you the time of day if you have question. When I was buying my car they were nice as can be. Then when I called about be rejected for the recent grad rebate a couple weeks later they told me "we didn't lie about the rebate you shouldn't haven't trusted your salesman to understand all the rebate parameters ".... Basically saying you can't trust us to know what we are talking about. Also I will make an appointment to get an oil change and it takes them 40 minutes to even bring my car to one of the bays and then another 40 to do the oil change. I could go to a jiffy lube and they would have it done in 20 minutes... terrible service department. Maybe hire more people... I just purchased a Hyundai Santa Fe from this dealership a couple weeks ago and would definitely not recommend them to anyone looking for a car! When I went to sign the paperwork, the financial guy gave me a lecture that I didn't know what I was really passing up with not purchasing an extended warranty and gap insurance. I understand they get commission on it, however, not interested. They even asked if I wanted to bring my husband in to better explain it to me. I should have walked then...however, I didn't. Then I was promised (on handshake) that I would get a second key the following week. Mind you, I purchased a CERTIFIED VEHICLE from them which is supposed to have 2 keys. After trying to reach them for 2 weeks, nothing has come of this second key. Horrible customer service! read more

Absolutely abhorrent experience. The "buy online" is a lie and a scam. Went through the whole process online. They ran a credit check. Was given a number. I asked if it was final. Asked if it would be the same when I arrived to the dealership. I was told yes. When I arrived. After driving an hour. They told me the car, (which I had been communicating with them about all day) was sold. But there was another model. That was more expensive. Gave me a number. Said they were going to run my credit again. I said "will this be another hard check? I already received one." I was told "No it will be the same thing." Another lie. I received two hard checks. They came back with a number so outrageously high that it was an insult. And they knew it. They were trying to insult me. Bought the car on a Friday and felt good about it and the price. Went back Saturday to finish a couple things and was slammed with title fees that were not reported the day before and my price significantly went up. The finance guy tried to sell me on a bogus warranty but wouldn't let me think about it for a few days to research so I left. The finance guy also told me that the title fee will increase the price to $270 per month and I get home and the price was actually $279. I went back on Monday to drop of my title and the guy tried selling me the warranty again (but I couldn't think about it for a few days???) Bottom line is after Saturday ended and I was finally done and had my car I didn't feel good about the experience at all. The deception was pretty extreme. I like the car I got but I must say that I will not recommend this location to anyone and I'll make it a point to steer them elsewhere. read more

I'm lost reading the reviews and don't feel like I came to the same dealer or maybe came when the management had changed. I purchased my second car Monday from this dealer within the last 2 years. The first was a Hyundai Sonata (2017) purchased last year and the second was a Hyundai Santa Fe (2019). I was really blown away by the service. I didn't feel like there was any pushing to make a decision or hurry up and buy. I told them what I was looking for, what the car would be used for, how I was concerned about having enough space for the kids and just wanted an overall comfortable ride. Several cars were brought out for me to test drive and I fell in love with the Santa Fe. I came back after a couple of days to sign off and the whole process took about 15-20 minutes. Lou, the salesman, treated me like family (he's sold 3-4 cars to my cousin and her kids which I didn't realize at the time and sold us our car last year). He spent at least 30 min programming the phone to the car, teaching me how to sync my garage door opener, getting my presets ready on Sirius and showing me what every button in the car did. Mike, the general manager even went through with a fine tooth comb to make sure that we were getting the best deal because I was concerned about the bottom line (cost), but he understood and really gave insight about what safety features he would recommend for parents with kids which the 2019 version of the Santa Fe had but that the 2018 I was originally looking at didn't. BEWARE OF THIS DEALER!!! Jim (sales manager) and Mike (sales guy) made a deal with me over the phone on Saturday night for a used Sonata that I had looked at on Friday. They took my credit card over the phone to hold the car till I could come in on Monday with cash. I told them I would be in at 330. Show up today at 330 and was told that car was sold this morning. I was then told that my credit card only held the price, but its first come first serve. They offered me a different car that wasn't near as nice. Dennis (GM) was unwilling to help either. I had been taking my van to Elgin Toyota, but it appears that the same auto group owns both Elgin Hyundai and Elgin Toyota. I will be taking my business elsewhere. You should too! Update 11/10/15-Elgin Hyundai called me today to tell me that the deal they had fell through. I'm surprised since Jim told me that everything was signed and done and Dennis, the GM, told me it had already been turned into the finance company. Anyhow, I got a little more money off the car. Since this was the best option in the price range I was looking I went ahead and bought it. Mike seems like a nice guy, but Jim and Dennis seem to lack any integrity when it comes to making a deal with somebody. BUYER BEWARE!!!! I am disgusted and had THE WORST CAR BUYING Experience yesterday. No discount for multiple cars purchased. I was there for almost 8 hours!!!! I am unhappy with the bait-n-switch, no explanation of the 10/100000 warranties not carrying over in used cars and having to pay extra for the warranty. No "real" numbers were given by "Dan" and I was beyond Furious after waiting over 2 hours to sign papers to see what the ending monthly payments were. Get your act together over there. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!! I wish more than anything I could provide zero stars. The fact that this dealership has even 2 starts is shocking. Before even going to the dealership, I communicated with the team two weeks in advance, they informed me that I needed to put down a down payment in order to get approved. I decided to do so and confirmed multiple times before going to the dealership (because it was a $50 Uber during a pandemic) that I would be approved for the car with the downpayment, proof of employment and salary, etc.. which they confirmed. Even though I had submitted EVERYTHING online and via text and knew exactly what car I wanted, I then had to sit there for 2.5 hours and listen to them ask me for all the information again after my arrival. I informed them I had already submitted it which didn't seem to matter. After 2.5 hours I was able to take the car home. After all this wasted time, they allowed me to take the car home. It came to my attention on 2/14 that they were having difficulties securing a loan (huh?? I have had the car for 4 weeks??) and that they needed me to come in to sign a new contract. It sounded reasonable to me but thankfully my boyfriend warned me that they could be trying to take the car back due to all the shadiness that their dealership participates in. I took his advice and did not take the car in. Thankfully I didn't because they were ready to take the car and legitimately leave me stranded. After this encounter, I requested that all communication be done via email. After I requested everything be done in writing, no one replied to the email and I began being called over and over by the GM Mike, the finance guy Nick, and the sales guy Josh, who by the way seemed to lack an answer to honestly any question I asked him. They began reaching out during and at the end of the work day and the GM Mike was RELENTLESS. I didn't reply, because I was at work, and he continued calling, texting, emailing, etc. I would say his communication was borderline harassment and in absolutely no way close to professional. These calls are still continuing as of 2/19 and I have now again had to ask him to please stop calling me. After speaking to Mike via email yesterday 2/18, he told me my approval had expired? While the sales guy, Josh, told me they needed more info for my loan while the Finance guy, Nick, told me that he needed to talk to the bank Monday morning 2/15 about getting my loan secured and to come in Monday afternoon to sign a new contract. Clearly shady and absolutely no one communicates over there. What a joke. Mike then started telling me he needed the car "TODAY" and that "this was his last request", clearly trying to intimidate me, while giving me about one day to figure out how to get the car to them. FINALLY I told them they could come take the car back as long as they confirmed they would be providing me my entire downpayment in full when I handed over the keys and after asking for this in writing three times they provided me with confirmation. You'd think this is where the nightmare would end but nope because after I had finally determined the car would be returned, Mike decided to call me an additional three times, after I did not answer his last email (again because I'm working) to tell me that I could actually be approved!!!!! WHAT HAHA??? He also then sent me an email explaining that he wants to help and that I need to give him a call because he feels like I don't want to cooperate with him. And you know what, to Mike's credit, he finally got something right, I NEVER want to cooperate with this man or this dealership again. Does he think any sane person would want to do business with him or any of his associates after an experience like that? It is truly unfathomable that after all of this he thinks I would still want to make some kind of deal with him?? I am sure there is more that I forgot to add as I have been dealing with this insanity for nearly five days but this is all I can remember at this time. Please please please save yourself the stress of dealing with these guys and go somewhere else. I will be contacting the FTC and state attorney general's office. They are scum. Happy to answer any additional questions about my experience if it will help anyone else out as no one deserves to go through this. :) read more

I don't leave bad reviews unless someone rly fucked up so I went there to trade a car and the guy who was helping me was very rude didn't listen to me and just tried to squeeze every penny out of me I wanted a car there that was rly nice and when we went to trade it the cars value somehow dropped tremendously and wanted more than asked so I said no and left so they call me later to c how my experience was and I tell her the true u sick your unprofessional and this call means nothing you'll do nothing with this so the lady starts laughing and hangs up the phone so I call back and she answered and I tell her I heard u laughing is something I said funny I have this recorded and she switches me to the manager who was very rude and hung up on me never go here it's the worst place ever used car lots r better than these guys read more
