The problem was the finance department messed up when entering the purchase date so when I do any warranty work or free oil change, they wont do the free oil change. I called and Elgin said they would fix the issue 3 months ago and they still have not. Ever wonder what the crooked innkeeper from Les Miserables would be like as owner of a car dealership? Wonder no longer! Run on in to Elgin Hyundai for the modern day equivalent of "Charge 'em for the lice, extra for the mice. Two percent for looking in the mirror twice!" Elgin Hyundai had the exact used vehicle we wanted at a great price. They were helpful over the phone, sent a CarFax report and were quick to set up an appointment. The test drive was great, but when they showed us the cost, it was padded with $3000 of extra fees for a warrantee, leather reconditioning and even a bogus shipping cost from when they bought the vehicle at auction that should be the *dealer's* responsibility. Repeated negotiations only removed half of the unwanted bogus costs, but $1500 remained. Basically they REFUSED TO SELL US THE VEHICLE AT THE ADVERTISED PRICE! But instead of saying so, they claimed some other customers (on a Tuesday morning!!) just bought the very vehicle (that had been sitting on the lot for 4 months!!!) we were looking at, miraculously at the higher price we refused to pay. Do NOT waste your time at this dealership. Their advertised prices are DISHONEST. They will only sell to you if you agree to pay for a bunch of extras. Did they waste your time or money? I see that someone else left a review regarding David Kang, and I would 100% agree-he is great! After reading these reviews I feel blessed that he was my salesman. However, the finance rep was not the best experience. I literally felt that he had no idea what David and I had previously discussed. I'm almost still wondering if I got ripped off by him, I'll need to research my documents more. But I don't want to base my experience on that, so if you have the option ask for David Kang! Update from a previous review from 2016. My husband returned to the dealer to cash in his warranty due to getting rid of his car before the extended warranty is up. (A lot of people don't know that you can cash in your unused warranty!) And saw another car he really liked. But, because I refuse to work with this dealership due to our last finance debacle. (Charging us for in interior package $997). I did not want my husband to get taken advantage of so I went to talk to the guy at the in the finance office. I explained to him that I refuse to pay the $997 for the ridiculous interior package. He said he would take it off Completely!!(Make sure to negotiate that if you buy a car from here, you dont have to pay it). They also have etching fees you don't have to pay for as a used car because the 1st time buyer already paid for this. I'm active duty Military (currently deployed overseas). Upon arrival back to the US, I needed a car and contacted David Kang at Elgin Hyundai. David was the most respectful salesman I've dealt with. I know this is a big dealership and moves a lot of cars, but I never once felt like I wasn't his number one priority customer. Quick email response, and always answered his phone. From a consumer point of view I couldn't see how this dealership is deserving less than 4/5 stars. It seems like people are quick to throw a 1 star review, just because the dealership sold a car that the customer was considering buying without putting money down. I know when I sent my deposit, my car was taken off the lot and reserved for me only. Kudos to David Kang and the management for a well run dealership. Do not go here. Run! Bought a car from here and the vehicle needs a new transmission. When we test drove the car we asked for three things to be fixed in order for us to purchase the car. The car was making a weird rattling and we signed a paper saying fix these three things and we have a deal. Bought car July 30th and waited for it to be fixed until August 11. During that whole time no one called to say hey here's the time frame --nothing. I could not get a hold of anyone to find out the status. I had to message this place thru online chat for someone to call me. The day I picked up the car and took it home it was still making noise so we called back no one answered and then texted the sales man Elliot and no response for a while and then he texted and said bring the car in on August 22 @ 12pm. We live 31miles away. I had the car for 10days and a half. Dropped off Monday 8/22 no call that day about the car, no call 8/23 but received a call Wednesday, 8/24. It's your transmission. Was told we could get our money back or pick another vehicle. We chose get our money back on Thursday, 8/25. Sales man said ok come pick up the check from my manager on Friday, 8/26. We drove and got there. Jim was like oh yea Elliot told me. I don't have your check but I'll call you Monday 8/29 to come pick it up. No one called us Monday, 8/29. I'm like it's ok it's Monday, 8/29 it's busy and left a vmail. Tuesday, 8/30 I called no answer, text no answer and called all day from 10-230pm to get through by again the online chat. Finally, they called and were like yea we now can't give you your money back. But why not? Two of the employees said we could get our money back. We drove the 30+ miles to talk to them and Jim the manager did not talk to us. They sent in some lady and another guy. Our son, bought the car with his money he had been saving. You know how most car dealers are sleazy and out to scam you? Well this place is no exception. I found a used car listed at this dealer that was exactly what I needed and at a decent price. I did end up buying the car and the staff there were great however the reason I have to give 1 star is because once you are ready to buy, they are ready to try to scam every last dollar they can from you. I immediately said I don't want any of the fees. I was able to get rid of most however I was told I can't remove the "vin etching" which is a total scam. Then after the deal was made and I went to the person that does the paperwork he adjusted that fee a bit higher and also tried to shame me when I said I don't want the warranty plan. I should have walked on the fee but I wanted to get the deal done since it was a nice used car and I needed to move on with my life. Would I come back to this dealer? No. Would I recommend others go? No. If you do make sure you know about all the fake fees and absolutely deny them and walk if they refuse. That said I will report it to secretary of state and BBB because there is no way selling non existent security features for $500 is a good business practice. I also would highly doubt any claims they make about "our mechanics do a full 260 point inspection" or whatever. Always have your mechanic check it out to confirm which is what I did before buying, my mechanic found $400 of minor repairs such as a sensor needed to be replaced, a sway bar needed to be replaced, and the headlight was out. Both the sensor and the headlight were obviously out and I noticed that immediately so I'm not sure how everyone else failed to notice if they truly inspect the used vehicles before selling. Other than that if no surprise problems come up I am happy with the purchase, just not happy with the scam fees and dishonesty. I should be able to go to a dealer without hassles and fake fees/lies, pay the listed price with cash and walk out happy. read more

Stay away from this dealership! Be aware of fraud, bad business. I saw a Santa Fe Sport-Turbo, online. I called and set up a time to test drive the vehicle. I drove almost 3 hours to purchase the vehicle. The used car manager, Brian Craig took a $500 deposit from me and agreed to a purchase agreement for the vehicle. I completed financing in my home state. My bank cut a check for me to purchase the vehicle and then I got a call the day I took off of work and was headed there to complete the purchase from the manager Michael Meah, advising me that he can't sell me the vehicle for the price it was listed for. He stated they weren't making enough off the deal. He said I refused to purchase their extended warranty coverage and accessory packages, and I wasn't financing threw them, so they weren't making much money off the vehicle. My husband and I had taken off of work for the day to complete a purchase that they took money on. He apologized for the lost time off work and stated, when he sales the car for the price listed on the internet, people must buy other products or warranty packages threw them. He said I wasn't doing either so the price that was listed online was no longer available for me. He also cashed my check and it took almost two weeks for me to receive a refund from them!!! Back in 2015 this dealership was very reputable and great to work with. I was in an accident recently and my car was totalled. I decided to go to Elgin Hyundai because of my previous experience with them. I had an appointment with Michelle to see the car. My daughter came with me. When we got to the dealership we were told that Michelle wasn't available but that another sales person would help so we were introduced to Steve. Right away we started feeling bad vibes from the dealership. It would have been nice if Michelle had mentioned that another would be working with me. We looked at the cars and test drove a couple of them. I decided on the one I wanted and we went in with Steve to discuss price and financing. Imagine my surprise when after figuring out the financing after my downpayment - the amount being finance was almost $7000 more than I expected. When we had Steve explain the figures we found out they were adding an inland transportation fee of $1500, a market value of $2000, two packages they had put on the car-one a protection package for$1299 and a restoril package for $1999 none of which was explained by Steve. They got hostile when we questioned this and gave no indication being willing to negotiate. My daughter and I left. The next day Steve called and asked if I wanted to make an offer. I asked him what his offer was and he had none. He said his business manager would not budge. Stay away from this place. I contacted other Hyundai dealers and they were all up front on the phone about the price of the car and any other additional charges. None of them added inland transportation and their protection packages were much less. In the current situation a market value was added but none as high as $2000. I emailed them, set an time to see the car. They confirmed. I drive 45 minutes, and they don't have that car. I came in late on Friday night and salesman Brian was patient with me wanting to test drive the Tuscan and come back the next day. After test driving a different make, I returned to buy the SUV I originally test drove. I didn't feel as though Brian pressured me at all, which I really appreciated. He provided all the information I needed to decide between two models and gave me time to think and consider my options. He was respectful and understanding. I am someone who needs time to think and process information and he was 100% trying to pressure me into the packages. When I told him I didn't want any of the options, he actually scoffed at me. I snapped at him that I would have appreciated the brochure to look over while I was waiting for hours... and he told me to "just calm down and take a breath". What the??? Worst experience ever!!! Beware!!! Very rude and ill-mannered manager!!! I was searching for Tucson online as soon as I submitted my request form I got call from Elgin Hyundai yesterday. The rep Michelle told me they have 4 Tucson 2021 in stock in different colors. I told her to email me the details but she sent me a general email. So today I drove there one hour after work to be told they dont have any in stock. Only 2022 in blue was in stock. When we told the manager (he didnt tell me his name, he is of Indian/Pakistani descent) this was a clear case of Bait and switch, he started yelling at us, called me aunty (although I am half his age). A very ill-mannered man who was yelling at us inside his showroom. Refused to believe that his sales rep told me they had 4 in stock. Accused me of mistaking his dealership for some other. Dave was very patient and accommodating with our needs. After multiple test drives and changing our minds on options they delivered on what we wanted. Bought NEW a 2013 Elantra Limited Demonstrator car in June 2014. The car had 5,555 miles on it, and we worked out a deal on it since it was new but had those miles, but before we made the deal, I asked the salesman and the manager, if I would still get the full warranty of 60,000 miles, and 6 years, and they both told me that the 5,555 miles on the car will be added on to the 60,000 mile warranty, so I would have until 65,555 for warranty and warranty begins when sold so I would be warrantied until mid June of 2019, 5 yrs from the day I bought it. The car was sold as new, Titled as new and I was the only titled owner, so, I thought they were telling me the TRUTH, but sadly, THEY LIED, just to sell the car. Warranty ended sometime in med Dec 2018 according to Hyundai because they said, it was put in Service back in Dec 2013, and it's the "IN SERVICE DATE", not the invoice date is what determines the start of warranty and THEY ALL KNEW THAT! Brian Quindel at Elgin Hyundai was wonderful to work with. I came in with my dad after an awful experience at a different dealership down the street and we were not in a good mood. Brian was very calm and he listened to us. We told him what were looking for and what we were not interested in and he didn't try to sway us. The first car he showed us was the perfect fit and I knew I didn't need to see anything else after that and he accepted that and we got to the numbers right away. The whole process was really long, but I don't think anyone buys a car quickly. Brian also helped me sync my phone in the car and he also remembered the little things; I mentioned that I liked country music and he programmed the first preset in the car to the country station. The little touches like that show how great his customer service is and really just helped put me in a better mood and got me excited to be the new owner of a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. This is my first car that I bought, and after graduating college I've been saving up so it was a really big deal for me to find the right vehicle that I can be happy with far into the future. Everything you don't want in a car buying experience. WAIT FOR IT......... First, the internet sales manager Tabitha tells me over the phone that the car we are looking for is still available. I also ask very specifically if online discount price includes recent college grad, first responder or military, (for which we do not qualify) to which she says "no." We drive 30 minutes to find that the car was sold days ago, and that the discounted price DOES include the special rebates that we do not qualify for. Enter Steve Johnson the sales consultant, who assured us that he has a better car than the one we came for, with better features. It's a demonstrator and he can give us a great deal. We test drive the vehicle and really like it. We do the the whole back-and-forth thing for about 90 minutes an finally get what we think is a good deal. Even though this isn't what we came in for, we buy the more-expensive car. Then we wait in the less-than-comfy service department waiting room (why?) for 2 hours to see the business manager, Ed Howell. Sensing we are frustrated, he spends little time trying to sell us the additional warranties, etc. Later we find out why. Finally we get signed, give them our deposit, they put the plates on our new car, and we drive it home. This was a Saturday. We drove our new car Saturday night to our daughter's graduation, and Sunday to get groceries, and are feeling pretty good about our choice, despite the less-than-stellar customer care at the dealership. Monday morning we get the insurance set-up and we are good to go. NOW IT GETS RIDICULOUS ..... I receive a call from Steve Johnson late Monday morning saying there's been a "mistake" and we need to return the car as soon as possible. Steve claims that we did the deal on the "wrong car." I race outside to check the VIN and sure enough, it doesn't match. He says it's for the trim package below ours and we need to come up with another $3000 if we want to keep it. Mind you, we never saw, let alone test drove, the vehicle with the VIN that magically appeared on our bill of sale. I tell Steve that this call should have been made by a manager and asked him to make that happen. Ed Howell, calls me back an hour later and reminds me again (like I'm a common criminal with a credit score in the 800's) that I need to return the vehicle immediately. Of course, I ask him what they are prepared to do about this massive "mistake" and his response is that they will do nothing about it. He calls it an "honest mistake" and if I want to keep the vehicle it will cost us another $3000. I explain to him that we only test drove one vehicle and spent the entirety of our time at the dealership negotiating that one vehicle, and that the VIN number on the bill of sale is irrelevant compared to the agreement that was made between the salesperson, his boss, and us. I asked him who his manager is and he said, "Mike Meah." I explained to him that I would need to speak to Mike, and he said it won't do any good because Mike is the one that told him to call me. So apparently Mike doesn't care about the "mistake" either. Monday evening we drive back to the dealership to turn in the car and cancel the sale. Now, all of a sudden Mike Meah is super interested in getting involved with our problem and over the next 45 minutes proceeds to discount the car that we had, eventually all the way down to the lower trim package price. I guess there is something they can do about it........ Ed. I cancelled the sale and bought the same package at another dealer for $1500 MORE. Yes, that is how little I trust these people. read more

This is a dealership founded on the very basis of one time customers. After purchasing a 1 year old car from Bryan I quickly realized he was your typical car salesman. Dishonest and looking to do anything for a quick dollar. Ever heard of "under promise and over deliver"? I now know this is a dealership that has not. They over promise and pray that they can deliver. After checking the reviews I have seen another story JUST like mine. 2015 cars come with two key fobs! So, when you promise me two keys I should receive two keys. Here's the ELGIN HYUNDAI typical story though: The manager drives the car while it's on the lot, "loses" the key, you then later receive a call saying the previous owner never turned in a second key. Oh, did I mention they mistakenly gave me ALL OF THE PREVIOUS OWNERS INFORMATION??? Hmm... I guess it is time to call the number and ask how many keys he turned in. Oh, he specifically told me he turned in 2 keys and he is ALSO having issues with this dealership. Time to get back on the phone with the dealership.... Good thing they're always so busy but capable of calling you back.. Wait, they never call back so I've been calling them every single day for 5 weeks now. After my first car wash all of the touch up paint wore off, I now see all of the minute scratches the dealership was hiding. Thanks Hyundai. I sincerely hope you go out of business. Here are my key points: This is the worst dealership I've ever dealt with. They have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I was having a few car troubles where my car needed to be jumped a couple times within the last two weeks. I'm a nanny for multiple families it's hard for me to find free time to bring my car in because my schedule varies all the time. With that said, I needed to get my car in asap to make sure I didn't get stranded anywhere with the kids. Late last night I was told that I didn't need to come into work until noon. I was not able to make an appointment because of this. I drove to Hyundai first thing in the morning and I told them my emergency. They got me in right away. It was such a relief. The customer service was amazing. The first person I spoke with was Larry in the service department. He validated all my concerns and made me feel comfortable and confident that I would be taken care of. He and the manager Brian made sure I would be out of there for me in time to be to work. Aside from being accommodated with my service, I was offered coffee and a ride to my home for during my time of service. Everyone I encountered at this Hyundai made me feel welcome and confident that we would get the root of my problem. They had me out of there in time for me to make it to work and explained my problems in detail. They replaced my fob battery and ordered me a new one which seemed to be the main issue. This is the 2nd time I have made an oil change appt and waited over an hour and my car sat exactly where I pulled it in. I make appt so I can work around my day. Sitting and waiting is not right. Service here is terrible. I got my keys and car and left again!!! I was told it would be no longer than 1 hour!!! I wasted my valuable time and still have no oil change or recall completed. Drove an hour to Elgin Hyundai yesterday to look at a used car (We live in Evanston). I was very excited to see the car and if the car matched the pictures online, they would've had a deal. This is my first time buying a car and my first experience going to a dealership was a disaster. My boyfriend and I looked at the car in the lot before going inside to speak with a salesman. The car online was being sold for around $10,800 and the tag on the car said $13,000. Where I come from this is illegal price advertising. That was our first impression. We go inside and talk to Frank, who tells us from the get-go that an extra $997 will be added on to the price of the car for interior protection (vacuuming the carpet and if "a stitch in the seats becomes undone") and that it is non-negotiable. Mind you, this is before we even looked at the car!!! (He didn't know we looked at the car yet). Frank goes to get the car... Frank comes back with a screwdriver and says that the car cannot be driven because it doesn't shift, the shifter is locked and to shift gears you have to use a screwdriver in the shift release button. He also says that when he turned the car on it was a "christmas tree" of lights came on the dashboard for maintenance. So again, the car is not safe to drive. At this point we bring up that we saw the car with the tag $13k, but that is not the price online. He says they will honor the online price but they price it that way to be competitive since everything is done online and people compare online. He also says that is why add the interior protection so that they can make more money. That is a shady way to do business, but thanks for being honest. We go look at the car. He asks if we want to test drive the car by using the screwdriver, with the maintenance lights and all. At this point I thought my boyfriend was going to lose it lol. We obviously cannot drive it. After inspecting the inside of the car, we find the driver's side visor completely missing. I asked Frank how long the car has been in the lot, he says Mid-May. It was June 27. They did not service the vehicle for that long (like it said on CarFax), yet they were trying to sell it? We go back inside and he says he needs to talk to his manager to explain why we didn't buy the car. Then he receives a phone call and asks us if he can take the call. We obviously have manners and tell him sure (thinking its a family emergency). Nope, just him blabbering away for 10 minutes with another customer while we were sitting right there as he is trying to show us other cars on the computer. That is terrible customer service. You give your undivided attention to the people whose money you want to take. I will never go back there to say the least. Waste of my time and my boyfriend's time. And I wish they would reimburse me for the amount of gas I had to spend there and back. read more
