I came in an hour before they closed for a full set, I wanted something festive for Halloween & my birthday, along with my engagement photos. I asked for nude powder nails with pink French tip and a simple spiderweb design. Whoever the lady is who wears the "unique nail" vest, was awful. She kept complaining about how much better the clientele is in cypress, and then used clear powder instead of nude, she also said they "do their best". Guess who lost 300$ in deposit money for photos & now has ugly nails for their bday? Me. I'm not happy & the only time I'll be back is if it's to pick up my refund. SHE MADE ME BLEED AND HE PICKED HIS NOSE THE WHOLE TIME... she gave me a rushed, horrible quality dip manicure that she made me bleed on two fingers during. She also used these plastic sleeves on my nails that she doesn't wash between clients. He gave me a half hearted pedicure while fully immersed in a show on his phone, then removed his mask, PICKED HIS NOSE, wiped it on his shirt, and went right back to my feet. My body had taken a beating after running the marathon. I needed pampering and Ella Nail Spa did just that. Smiling faces greeted me as I walked in without an appointment. They have a decent selection of colors to choose from. Michelle did a spectacular job thoroughly massaging my shoulders and neck. Upon finishing, she brought me a heating pad for my shoulders to enjoy while my hands and feet got worked on. Tammy did a fantastic job on my manicure. She removed my shellac without damaging my actual nails. A man (I didn't get his name) gave my legs and feet a good rub down, but he cut my toenails way too short. Overall both of my nail techs were meticulous and took their time. I was very relaxed and never felt rushed. After my nails were done, they let me sit in the pedicure chair until they dried. Not sure if they have those little fan machines w UV lights or not...? Cleanliness: they line the pedicure foot bath with a clean liner for you. So that's a plus. Neither of my techs wore gloves. They have a steri-dent machine to sanitize the tools. I never saw any tools go into or come out of there. That doesn't mean they don't use it. I just notice these things. They also offer facials so I'll prob look into one of those for next time. The thumb nail was all chipped and started peeling off. The rest of my fingers had paint stains all over & the lady didn't bother to clean them after I mentioned it to her. I've been going to Ella Nail Spa off and on for about a year and the service has gotten progressively worse. I had a super weird shellac manicure there last week that put me over the edge - pretty sure I'm not going back. Here are the issues with this spot: * Poor quality manicure: The shellac on my recent manicure began peeling and cracking after a few days. * Sanitation: The last time I went here, the manicurist began cutting and filing her own nails while performing my manicure. Also, on two occasions they've cut my cuticle and just wiped the blood away with their hands...gross * Generally weird manicure: the manicurist couldn't remember if she'd applied top coat, nail polish, etc... she kept asking me where she was in the process. Also, she slathered a ton of lotion all over my hands and didn't rub it in or wipe it off. It was strange. * They lie about wait times: Lately, whenever I go in and ask how long the wait is, I'm told "five to ten minutes". It's never five to ten minutes, in fact, recently it was closer to 45 minutes. I would prefer that they're just honest about the wait - I can go run an errand and come back. There are better nail salons in the GOOF area. This is by no means my go-to spot. They're just open late and close. But, definitely not worth the money. read more

Today was my first visit to Ella Nail Spa, and after a few reviews I read, I wanted to be sure they were at least sanitary. I asked to be shown how they clean their instruments, and they showed me the sterilizing machine, and that sets of instruments are cleaned in sterilizing bags for each customer. I received a manicure and pedicure. They were able to do both at the same time, and both of the technicians were professional and friendly. The man working on my feet paid attention to every detail. Both massages were lengthy, even with the standard mani-pedi rather than the deluxe. Here is the best part: The whole thing was $30. The only reason I did not give this nail spa 5 stars is that the facility itself was run-down and unattractive. Everything was clean; it just needed some serious updating. I was in a hurry and was in and out in 45 min with a great job! Mary reshaped my nails that were done elsewhere (they were thick and ugly) and they looked 100% better when I walked out. I have been coming here for a long time I just wish the old technicians were still around some of those who no- longer work here were really great. Sometimes the owner can be moody and come off kinda weird! And now the prices are based out of a folding catalog that only the technician will pick their page for you to choose from. And usually they want to convince you on the higher prices BUT.... what happen to let me choose my own package price??? Yes I find this strange I used to pay $20 manicure and now it's like almost $30 when sometimes they dont even cut the cuticles right or file straight and they are NOT very sanitized at all! If it was possible to leave no stars, I would. I came into this establishment for a new set & pedicure. When "Mai Tai" began doing my pedicure the water of course was warm. After about 20mins the water became cool & I asked if he could add a little hot water. He then gets upset(I'm not sure why at all) & tells me "I'm not putting anymore hot water in here after this". In an extremely nasty tone. Quite baffled & shocked, I told him to not speak to me that way. I went and got a deluxe pedicure which includes paraffin wax on your feet for $27 at 11:45 on a Thursday. The guy who worked on my over tired toes did a wonderful job with the massage. When I went in it was fairly empty so I was seen right away. I've been here in the evening after work and it's very busy so it's a good place to go for a lunch break Not the swankiest of nail salons but they do the trick. Lots of color choices. They have 10 massage chairs and 6 stations for manicures plus a waxing room (which I've never used) While I was here the phone rang a couple times and no one bothered to answer even though plenty of employees were free to answer it so it seems pointless to call. read more

My wife had an awful experience. Below is her review: Undeserving of even one star - terrible place! Disgrace of a salon. Worst mani and pedi I've ever experienced. The ladies may as well have been blindfolded doing their job. The first lady placed a pillow on my lap and a bowl of water on the pillow and had my one hand in the bowl while she began cutting the nails on my other hand at the same time that my pedicure was going on and my toenails were being cut by another lady. When the bowl on the uneven pillow tipped over, I was blamed for not sitting still enough, as if I'm supposed to sit as still as a statue and NOT be relaxed. The lady cutting my nails clipped away without looking, and in turn each nail got shorter and shorter. They were so short and uneven that I stopped her and told her not to continue.. Amidst my frustration, she attempted to convince me that they were "fine." The manager walked over and after looking at my nails told me she'd get another lady to finish them properly. I was reluctant but after the second lady came over and started fixing them, I put some trust in her. Next thing I know, my leg was stinging as the lady doing my pedicure had sprayed me with hot steaming water that burnt my leg. When I reacted and told the ladies that it was too hot they started speaking in their own language and laughing about it. From that point on I had to stop the pedicure, as even the toenails were uneven. Although the second lady finished the mani and pedi, she too rushed the jobs and had the lady who started the pedi assist her - knowing I had just had a rough experience with her. After growing out my nails for over a month I was left with very short, very uneven nails and paint that was unfinished and blobby. To top it off, I was not even allowed the decency to let the paint dry before I was scooted out the door. This place ought to be shut down. I urge all potential clients to beware of awful service. I get shellac usually on my hands and regular polish on my toes, I kept having the shellac peel and chip really soon after getting it at my old salon. This place isn't very pretty/neat looking in terms of the decor but it's in my new neighborhood which is a plus and my shellac has lasted 3 weeks!!! I am a regular, but no more. I've been on the receiving end of solar nails for almost 20 yrs and doing nails for close to 10. I went in today to get a refil of the same solar powder, pretty easy considering there's no former color to cover..... WRONG. I had to point out to the owner that my nail tech wasn't doing the refil properly (she was doing it like you would for pink/white, not color) and that the colors looked splotchy as a result of her not applying the powder correctly. So he translated to her what I said and she filed the powder off and started from scratch again. Basically during this 2 hr appointment I had to tell her what to do with the owner translating. He then charged me full price even though I basically told her what to do the entire time and could have done it myself. Ridiculous. Rather than argue about the price, I asked if she was new and if she had her license. He said very quickly yes, she has her licence ( I call bullshit) and that she's been learning, LEARNING, and just started. I felt bad for her as she took direction very well, the owner on the other hand needs to get his shop in shape and not put newbies in the front. read more

Danger danger Oak Forest! Took a chance on Ella Nails based on the reviews and lost this roulette round in a big way. The whole place oozes grease and lack of hygiene, and I don't think the chairs have come in contact with an antibacterial cleaning liquid in days. After twenty minutes past my appointment time, feet not even soaking in hot water during this time period and two small biting bugs landing on my leg and chair, I walked out before I contracted Hepatitis C or some awful skin disease. After several years I have decided to sever ties with Ella Nails. I'd read a Yelp review about them changing the amount on a check they were given but since I never used checks anyway I returned. However, after receiving a pedicure that left my feet feeling the same, and a manicure that made me look like I bite my nails, I heard a lady being encouraged to pay with a check. I was already upset about the poor service I'd received and I was not going to let that lady be bullied into using a check that would likely be changed from a $40 to $90 total. I spoke up about what I'd read on Yelp. She was very thankful but the staff was not happy with me AT ALL! I shall not return to see what the service would be like after I exposed them... This place is close by my home and does a good job for a very reasonable price. I had a pedicure and added two massages- the hot stone foot massage and the neck and shoulder massage. The neck and shoulder massage was good. Foot massage was OK, but in the future I would probably just go next door to Ella Foot Spa. However, pedicure was nice and price was good. She nipped at my cuticles until I asked her to stop as it was so uncomfortable. Then she tried cutting them some more! Despite my clear insistence of only wanting the basic $22 pedicure, they pulled out paraffin. She made a light swipe to exfoliate my soles and that was it. Yelp apparently thinks I'm lying about this place, because they keep hiding my review of it... but over a year later and I'm still a fan. They almost always get me started right away, and my nails always look beautiful when they're done. Took a bunch of my friends there recently... a group of 8 of us showed up all at once for mani-pedis. We called when we were on our way, about 30 minutes ahead of time, and when we got there, they had 8 chairs all open and ready for us. All of my friends were very pleased with their nails and how long the mani-pedis lasted, and once again I was extremely pleased with my solar nails (I keep artificial nails on because I compulsively scratch, and can't do as much damage with fake nails). They know I'm rough on my hands, and any time I get a new nail tech, the owner or one of the techs I've had before comes over and makes sure that the new tech knows my particular issues with lifting and breaking, so they adjust accordingly. The only minor drawbacks (that I've seen other reviewers complain about) is that the owner IS a little pushy with the neck rubs, which are slightly over-rated... and they DO try to get you to write checks every time. I think this is more to avoid the credit card charge than anything else. read more

I've been a loyal customer since they opened and a life long Oak Forest resident. It saddens me to say but I won't ever go back. Every time I've gotten my nails done recently the service has gotten worse and worse with misshapen, different lengths of nails.I had stopped having my nails done all together and just gone for the pedi. I thought that I would have a better experience with the owner doing my nails this time but they were worse than ever. About a week after service, my ring finger was swelling and got very painful. It took hours but i soaked the acrylics off to find the severe damage you see in the pictures. I had to take a course of antibiotics and the nail then began to release pus from all the swelling. As a nurse I'm meticulous about hand washing and this makes every wash feel like fire on my nail bed. The nail may never grow back right. I'm not normally a complainer but I feel like it's my duty as a public servant to inform others so no one has to experience the pain and monster nail like I am. Consider yourself warned. read more
