Took 55 minutes for our food to come out. We were a party of two plus a toddler. I ordered eggs Benedict and the other had bacon and eggs. 55 minutes!!!! Also the Benedict was so disgusting- it was legit hollandaise sauce soup with some biscuits floating in it. Yuck! Waste of money. read more

My husband felt sick 30 mins after having an omelette there. Food poisoning! The owner is an absolute JERK!!! The food was burnt yet cold the ingredients tasted liked expired aldis with globs of goop on the food!! He was yelling and saying we were trying to get a free meal instead of being a professional business owner and actually taking ownership!!! Times must be tough for this cheap management if they are cheaping out on the ingredients, preparation, and overall customer service!! I should have know when they didn't have a wait but walkers brothers and egg harbor both had long waits. My next step is to contact the health department!!! There are many imitators but Elly's was among the first locally to refine the pancake house concept for the 21st century, i.e. not open at dinnertime, minimalist décor, and nearly everything prepared fresh in-house. The Glenview Elly's, opened around 2002, is independently owned and no longer affiliated with other Elly's restaurants. Their menu is also different. We've enjoyed breakfast and brunch items here in the past, and our most recent visit was our first venture into their sandwich territory. The price of sandwiches and wraps includes a cup of soup, French fries, and coleslaw. The soup of the day was not a cup but a generous bowl of cream of chicken & rice. Ahhh, it was hot, thick and chickeny. My Missus liked the soup so much that she requested a small container of it to enjoy at home. My Missus ordered a grilled egg & peppers sandwich, her sis ordered a BLT club, and I ordered a Cuban sandwich. Huh? A Cuban sandwich at a pancake house? Well, it was expertly prepared and as good as any I've had in Miami, so I would definitely order this sandwich here again. We didn't want fries and our server gladly offered to substitute a fresh fruit medley or a large dish of coleslaw. Both options were excellent. All of our meals were huge and a challenge to finish. Although Elly's is especially popular on weekends, we had only a brief wait before we were seated. A weekday brunch which I haven't done in ages. I've passed this place too many times to count and always wondered what it was like inside. Walking in, it's a nice surprise as the exterior doesn't really fit the interior. Its modern and nice on the inside. The bathrooms as well are clean and the stalls open out and not in, so you don't have to squeeze yourself getting out trying not to touch the stalls. The menu is extensive with a little something for everyone. We ordered the Greek skillet, the country fried steak, the skirt steak and the philly cheese steak. Most of the dishes came with a side of pancakes and the philly cheese steak came with a side of soup. The portions, enough to be full and take home leftovers enough for a second meal. The side of pancakes (2) were big too. The Greek skillet was tasty, though I felt like it could have had a bit more gyro meat in it. You get 2 eggs cooked to order on top of the skillet. I ordered online via Yelp & it took an hour and a half to get my meal. I got there pretty early to pick up & they said they were keeping an eye on it. Telling me it was the waffles that was taking so long. I tried to be patient and the. asked again they said they were having it up. Then all of the sudden the owner said I should have ordered it from their website vs via yelp. I am out of town - we were trying to get a meal. Why would it matter where I ordered ??? They had my order and then she said they accidentally gave my order to a doordash guy that literally came in for 2 min. They had to remake my meal. They relatively nice but I it was VERY off putting that she made me feel like it was my fault to took that long to get my food. Also nothing to accommodate the fact that I waited so long - didn't have any remorse that it took me that long to get my meal. Even once she handed me my bag she said "next time order directly from our website". No thank you I will never be back. A reliable spot for brunch. We were looking for a place for brunch and we always drove past. Decided to finally check it out. It's been around for a while and the lot is usually pretty packed when we drove by. Seemed like they renovated recently with nice modern touches yet still having a classic diner pancake house feel. The menu was quite large and I decided upon chicken fried steak which came with two eggs your way of course hashbrowns or fruit, 2 biscuits w/ all that white gravy goodness. Others in our group had a skillet, Philly cheese sandwich and a skirt steak w/eggs. Being a pancake House the breakfast items came with two sizeable pancakes as well. Pancakes were fluffy and yummy. The coffee strength was a tad weaker than my liking but as you'd expect from a diner spot (I like dark roast). The staff knew the safest place to seat us as we had an infant in our group as well. I thought the server was pretty nice and was responsive. Portions were fantastically huge, I'd say enough for two people to split if not wanting to be completely stuffed. On a road trip to Milwaukee, we stopped at Elly's for breakfast.  It's a little better than your run of the mill pancake house.  Service was quick and friendly.  Our food was plentiful, filling and delicious.  I ordered the Ole (chorizo omelet) and it was huge...and I could only eat half.  I loved it and wanted to push my stomach limits, but used restraint.  The pancakes were delicious as well.  My husband liked his meal (I honestly don't know what he got - possibly a meat lover's type of skillet). I don't know if I'll be in the area again, but if I am, I'll be sure to drop in again.  Good stuff! read more

I'd like to say that the food is amazing but the service was not. I came here last December and liked how the waitress recommended that I could order their mini waffles (from the kids menu), since I'm not a fan of eating food with large servings. However, when I came here last week, I was hoping I could get food selections from the kids menu since the last waitress told me I could have it, with no problems. The new waitress assigned to us this time was so shookt on why i am ordering items from the kids menu. She was telling me that it's a restaurant policy and i could order it if I'm 12 years old and below. I just mentioned that they allowed me before, in a calm voice, that I had it because of the previous server. She then escalated to "WOULD YOU LIKE TO SPEAK WITH THE MANAGER THEN?" Mind you, there's no problem with me paying more or paying less. I just want the kind of food that I had before. If they have this certain kind of policy, I just wish they implement it consistently. I also wish that server to know how to communicate properly with their customers. PS I still gave her a tip. I just wish her to do better in her next customers. It was mighty expensive for food that was just okay. We tried the Ole omelet and lox Benedict. The Ole omelet looked unappetizing to say the least. It was not eggs filled with chorizo and other ingredients. It was all mixed and then rolled into a burrito like shape. It looked more like an omelet was dropped on the floor and rolled around, not saying it was just saying it looked dirty. My husband who eats everything didn't even eat half of it My lox Benedict was just alright as well. It was not bad at all it was just nothing special. Honestly, I missed a bagel with the lox. Both of us had a side of hashbrowns, and they were just a disappointment. The bits that were from the outside and were okay, but 90% was just bland soggy shoe string potatoes. Went and had breakfast with my family last Sunday and had a wonderful experience! Not only was the food amazing but the service was exceptional. When we first walked in we were instantly greeted by the front desk staff and seated almost instantly. Our waiter was so tentative and kept checking in on us to make sure drinks were filled and food came out the way it was ordered. Excellent breakfast with good service, I love going to these big suburban diner-style restaurants on a busy weekend. These portions are ginormous, there is no way a person could eat one of the platters and not pass out, and that is saying a lot since I rarely waste food. I got the Fruitopia pancakes which were very good: eat them without syrup to balance the fruit sugars with the saltiness of the batter. I remember dining at Elly's awhile ago and this past weekend, when my kids asked their "it's Sunday and I'm too lazy to make breakfast"mother about what to have for brunch...I thought about trying this place once again. We got to the place around 10am and we were lucky to be seated immediately. Our server was efficient, friendly and attentive. My kids and I tried a few things: BREAKFAST CLUB- the sausage link, scrambled eggs, bacon strips and hash browns were cooked well. The PANCAKES were delicious. COUNTRY FRIED STEAK- Disappointing. The crumbs/coating was so thick and salty that I couldn't even appreciate the meat inside. The gravy was also over salty. BREAKFAST SANDWICHES- They were ok. Nothing memorable. CINNAMON ROLL FRENCH TOAST- Very thin and unimpressive slices. Overall, the service was great and the place is clean. It was very busy with the Sunday brunch crowd but I think that the below average quality and taste of food is the reason why I have not visited Elly's in a while. I've driven by Elly's many times during the work day, always making a mental note to try it sometime on the weekend. And then we get busy and I forget. Now that we're under a stay at home advisory, I looked up brunch places that deliver this past Sunday, and came across Elly's. "Oh, yeah," I thought, "I've always wanted to try that place." I read through the menu, and lots of things caught my eye, but of special interest was the Savory Crepe. I love these, but it's so hard to find anything other than a dessert crepe these days. Better try it! The Meat Lovers Skillet caught my husband's eye, especially when he found out it could include a side of pancakes. Not wanting to be left in his dust, I ordered a side of banana bread. Thanks to Door Dash, we had it all within an hour. Oh, my goodness, it was all wonderful! He said the skillet was great, and my crepe was outstanding! It was, in fact, two very large crepes, so I easily made two meals out of it, and could probably have made four if I wasn't so hungry. And the banana bread? Probably the best I've ever had. It almost tasted like there was a hint of cooking sherry in it -- it reminded me of the same little bit of bite that a good bisque has. We'll definitely be ordering from Elly's again, so I can continue to make my way through the menu. But I can assure you the banana bread will be part of every order! read more

Still really good. I've moved away from Chicago about 20 years ago. Anytime I come back to town, we go to Elly's...my family loves going there for breakfast. The owners always recognize my dad. They always warmly welcome me and love hearing that this is one of stops when I come to town. The western omelette is so good. Staff is super friendly. Parking is easy and plentiful. I came here on a weekday for brunch and there was plenty of available seating. I read previous reviews and knew that the apple pancake takes a long time to cook so I called ahead to pre-order. It was ready by the time we arrived (45 minutes). Hubby ordered sausage patties and scrambled eggs over easy but he was brought sausage bacon and sunny side up eggs instead. This is generally a go to place. However, this time was very disappointing. We were there for lunch. I ordered the veggie skillet with two medium eggs. The skillet portion was so dry and was missing that famous Elliy's hash brown flavor. It almost tasted like they were microwaved potatoes. The veggies also had that microwaved taste and texture. Elly's is a large dinner with lots of hearty American breakfast options on the menu. I ordered a short stack of pancakes, eggs over medium, hash browns and bacon. I did not care for the preparation of my meal: Avocado Toast. They blended the avocado mixture with liquidy ingredients that resulted in a taste not to my liking. The waiter argued with me regarding my problem with the toast and finally removed it. I ordered french toast and he asked if I wanted fruit with it. I declined as there was fruit left on the table from the avocado toast. Imagine my surprise when I was charged for the fruit that I did not want. When I spoke to the manager she then rehashed the issue of my returning the avocado toast and didn't understand how I could expect her to waste that food when my dining companion had no problem ordering the same meal. In addition, she let me know that since I ate some of the fruit from the avocado toast such was the reason for the additional charge. She reluctantly removed that charge. Moral of the story: Don't return your entree...better yet, don't eat there. read more
