Wonderful little gem in Des Plains. We always try to seek out family-owned breakfast places over the weekend and had an awesome experience here. Between the 4 adults and 2 kiddos we tried scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, yogurt with fruit, french toast, veggie breakfast quesadilla and fresh squeezed orange juice. Well, I hadn't stepped foot into Katie's Kitchen in 5 years but our men's club lunch group gave it a try for a new weekday lunch venue. It was a lot more upbeat and vibrant than I was expecting and the place is very popular. I noticed it was particularly popular with several women's groups and that should tell you something - and that is, the restaurant is clean, comfortable, cozy, and has a decent menu. It's also on the loud side, and we'll have to see if some of hard of hearing members can make this place work in the longer run. As far as brunch, they have the full assortment of offerings and they are all fresh and good and reasonably priced. I had 2 eggs over easy with potatoes and pancakes for $10 - can't beat it! Service was quick and friendly also. Their space is also contemporary and airy and I thought it may have recently been remodeled, but my 2020 photos say it's the same decor from 5 years ago, but all is well maintained with a nice clean look. Met the ladies for brunch today. We've never been to Katie's, but it came highly recommended. And the recommendations were spot on. Place was busy but service was good and food was extremely reasonably priced. I had half chicken salad sandwich on whole-grain bread with chicken barley soup as my side. It was delicious! Perfect for a light lunch. My friends had a vegetable Panini, which looked very good too. Another had a veggie omelette with homemade diced potatoes. Last one had the half chicken salad sandwich with a side salad. We all enjoyed our meal. It's a neat little place tucked into a strip shopping mall. The menu is pretty extensive. Lots to choose from. Came here with my wife for breakfast. I had the French toast and pancakes. It was definitely filling. It's not a humongous place, but it has plenty of spaced out seating. The parking lot isn't huge, so you may need to circle once or twice. The staff is friendly. Id come here again. read more

One year later and the food is just as good or better. The staff is very patient with our elderly family member, which is much appreciated.

We were in the area and looking for someplace new to try for lunch. Opened up Yelp and found we were minutes away from Katie's Kitchen. A hidden gem! Food was hot and yummy! Wait staff was very well informed and pleasant. It was busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. Great breakfast and lunch options. We met the owner. I must have passed this place a million times on my way to work when I worked in downtown Des Plaines. However, on the occasion of my visit, I was out with friends elsewhere when I was invited to Katie's Kitchen. It's a cute storefront location in a strip mall at the southeast corner of Wolf and Central. It's a cute mom and pop place...and it's pretty darn inexpensive. Oh, and the food is delicious. Our server was very friendly and was quick to bring drinks, take our order, and bring our food to us. I think it took 10 minutes from the time she took our order, to entering it on the POS system, to bringing it to our table. All four of us got the All American Breakfast with different variations. It comes with one egg (any style), two strips of bacon or sausage, red diced potatoes made with onions, and one slice of toast or a pancake. I added an additional egg and ordered a Diet Coke (not a coffee or tea drinker). Others got coffee and tea, so all our bases were covered. It was a lovely experience and is definitely a place that I've already returned to a couple other times and have had their pancakes (yum) and want to try their crepes soon. With so many places that are overcharging for their breakfasts, Katie's was a welcome change for quality food, great service, and even better pricing! read more

Today, my sister and I went to this restaurant. We were placed in the back corner of the restaurant and seated at the only table without a table cloth. To make matters worse, we were not greeted with a server for over 10 minutes despite the other tables around us who were seated after us getting their orders taken. After 20 minutes at the restaurant, a family of six was seated next to us. Within minutes the family of six received their drinks, and we still hadn't received ours despite putting in the order way before them. In total we were seated for over 45 minutes and we never received our food. It became clear that we were not welcome at this establishment and we left. At least the establishment didn't make us pay for the food we didn't receive. The only difference between us and the other guests was our race, and thus we can only conclude that the staff's treatment of us was an act of racism. I would like to warn all guests of color not to come to this restaurant; we are clearly not welcomed. read more

This place has special fish Fry during lent. This is a cute irsh brunch spot normally. They had a lot of st paddy's day themed things but I passed. The good. Coffee with actual cream not the pre package junk. Great coffee service as well though it would be nice to add this to the waiting area. The staff was great aaa all the way. As I'm constantly #behindinlife, I thought I should wrap up this draft I started 3 months ago... Yesss, a new go to in the area! Both my husband and I were so surprised it's taken us so long to visit. Katie's is located in an unassuming strip mall, but the inside looks somewhat recently remodeled. It's homey, bright, and open and reminds me of someone's living room. There's even a fireplace near the front. The kids' menu comes with crayons. In fact, my girls got to share a 16ct box. What a treat, esp since they usually don't get to color with pink! Haha. Menu is extensive, with tons of choices of eggs, skillets, and carby pancakes and the like. I tried the chicken pot pie brunch, which I don't see offered a lot on menus. Biscuits were tasty, the pot pie flavor with its spices, carrots, and peas definitely came through, but I wasn't expecting so much of the soupy filling in the skillet. Basically it was 3 biscuits sitting atop pot pie filling, so the ratio was off (too much liquid). Would love to try other dishes from here when possible! read more

They got their food Unseasoned., they have to put salt, pepper. And when told Joan the server she said they don't season it because others can't have salt in their food. Not sure why I have never reviewed Katie's since we go there often. Breakfast and lunches are all very good. Each month they have month long specials, which offer a nice variety of seasonal flavors . I am not a huge breakfast person but my fiance, his mom, and I came here the other day for breakfast and we had a great experience. His mom actually has been here multiple times, which is why she wanted us to come here because she had great things to say about it. We got here when it was pretty busy last weekend on Sunday morning. They told us it would be about a 20-minute wait, which we were fine with, but we actually got seated within 5 minutes of being there. We had great service and our waitress always came to check on us. I ordered the Apple Pie Baked Oatmeal and it was SO GOOD. It is "old-fashioned oatmeal baked and topped with apples, walnuts, molasses, and brown sugar." I would definitely come back and order it again. I do want to come back though and try their lunch options, as well, because they have many sandwich options. My fiance loved his bacon and omelet, and of course, his mom loved hers, as well! The dining room has a cozy feel and is decorated very modernly. Super cute aesthetic.
