Second visit to this amazing restaurant returning on our way back to California from our week at the coast. We were so impressed the first time, we made a point of coming here for a late lunch, and as expected, we were not disappointed! The place was quite busy and had two large parties who had been seated ahead of us; one of the servers came over and told us she wanted to help our server out and take our order if we were ready (so our two little orders wouldn't get prepared behind the large groups' orders)... wow, thank you, Lilywan! And she continued to serve us because Stephanie had the bigger tables and other tables too. Exceptional teamwork, definitely a thumbs up from us! Food was excellent! Fish and chips were delicious, with not too much breading; excellent cole slaw, and my husband's Reuben sandwich was FABULOUS (his words). As we were finishing our meal, Melissa, the house manager we met on our first trip, walked by our table, clearly on her day off -- with her son. (she comes to the restaurant on her day off? Talk about commitment!) She remembered us! Asked about our trip to the coast, wished us a happy anniversary (which we talked about when we were here several days ago at the beginning of our trip!) Not too bad of a place. In my opinion, they are a little over priced for the quantity and quality of the food. The facility was kept decently clean and the service was mediocre. I have had some bad breakfasts in my 18 years in Grants Pass but this has to be one of the worst. We went to breakfast on 12/2/18 Granted it was crowded but that is no excuse. I ordered chicken fried steak that obviously was pre cooked and frozen and old. The breading was hard and had a gritty texture. The meat was warm and flavorless under a poor attempt at gravy which was luke warm. I ordered eggs over medium that were so under cooked they ran under my bowl of fruit. There have been countless times where I (or someone I know) has found a hair or multiple hairs in our food. It's really just disgusting, use hairnets please. There was also a strange young boy behind the counter who was just uncomfortably weird and I was waiting for John Quiñones himself to come out with cameramen from "What Would You Do?".... IF there was a lost child dressed up as a waiter serving your food. The boy was rude, slow, disrespectful to my wife, didn't comp the plate of food with a short & curly in it, he stared, gave off strange vibes, and I look forward to some bleach in my eyes next time I see him. In a town that rolls up the sidewalks by 9:00 PM (and 8:00 on a Sunday night) your selection for a late dinner is very limited. We tried the local Denny's on Saturday and would not go back, so we decided to try Elmer's, a chain that we do not have in our local area. It too does comfort food, like the Black Bear Diner and Shari's, but the portions are more reasonable in size (BBD's are huge and Shari's can be on the small side) and just was well prepared. We came in at about 8:30 on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and there were only two employees working the front, the greeter and the waitress, but the crowd was tiny so it worked. The service was prompt and attentive, the food very home style, but well prepared. The clam chowder was excellent! It is up on a hill so watch it when you drive up the short steep driveway since you cannot see a low cement traffic island while your car's hood is pointed toward the moon (I hit it, and apparently so have many others judging by the number of tire marks on it, but thankfully no damage other than to my pride). This is a nice place with good food. I don't think you can go wrong here. read more

We stopped at this restaurant in hopes to visit with a far away friend. Unfortunately she wasnt to join us, but......our meal was wonderful. It was good comfort food, at a great price. The staff was so friendly. When we stopped at our next destination, 2+ hours later, we realized that all our cash was missing. We called the restaurant and asked if by chance anyone had found the money and turned it in....long shot i know.... a few minutes later we got a call from the manager Trina that a server had found our $360 and it was there for us to pick up!!! whenever you take road trips you like to have those places along the way to stop for breakfast and elmers is that place. there is no need to ask for anything out of the ordinary or fancy they do everything just right there way. elmer's is one of those places i look forward to whenever i'm up in grants pass and i sure wish we had one down here. you can never go wrong with the basics but they have great potato pancakes and german pancakes. those are my favorites but they always have something new and exciting to offer. i think it's time for another road trip. read more

She only paid attention to the older customers seated in her section and gave us terrible service. She forgot part of my order, never took a drink order at all, forgot to bring us ketchup and when reminded took another 15 mins to do so, and took upwards of 20 mins to fetch the bill when prompted -- all this, when only two other (older) couples were seated in her section. It's a bit much to be totally ignored by your waitress while you can see her kissing up to other patrons seated five feet away. The food itself was super greasy and a bit of a letdown. We did not try the german pancakes everyone seems to rave about, so maybe that is their specialty. I had an omelette and my man had one of their egg skillets - both were about what you could expect at a Denny's. I don't think I'd stop in again. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way back home. If you have never tried a Dutch Pancake, try one here! It's a thin and light pancake that covers your entire plate, dusted with powdered sugar and served with lemon wedges, butter and syrup. I just squeezed the lemon over it - no syrup for me - and it was DELICIOUS! My new favorite! I love how comfortable Elmer's is... like you're eating breakfast in someone's country cottage or something. The staff was warm and friendly and our coffee cups were never empty. On a visit to my friend in Grants Pass, we had breakfast at Elmers and wowoweeeeee, was it ever good. She had an omelette and I had poached on hash browns with bacon. While those really are items that can be found just about anywhere, the German Pancake was INCREDIBLE. It's a cross between a popover and pancake and the lemon + powdered sugar = magic. My family and I decided to give this restaurant a try since there is Applebee's in Cali. Keith our server was very warm and friendly throughout our dinner. He even split a meal for my kids which was really nice of him. The wait time for our food was less than 10 minutes. We ordered fish and chips, prime rib dip and a German pancake. The fish was lightly battered, and not greasy at all. The German pancake was light and fluffy. The butter and lemon was a great touch of flavor. The prime rib was very tender, and the onions add another layer of flavor. The best part was the French roll, which was very soft and melts in your mouth. This was a completely fine, very easy little restaurant. I liked that it was open 'til 10 on a Sunday night, so we didn't have to rush into town. I also feel like small local chains in Oregon tend to be a lot better than the gross big monster chains, so I'd definitely recommend going here over Denny's, Applebee's, etc. My Cobb salad was enormous. The avocados were a nice idea, but not the best quality, and the chicken also didn't have a lot going for it. However the bacon was nicely cooked and they were generous with the blue cheese, so I enjoyed the dish. The clam chowder was a nice treat - not something I'd have too often, as it was really TOO creamy, but the potato chunks and clams were good. My husband ordered the fish & chips with salmon - I thought there's a reason salmon is not generally fried, and he did too when he started the dish, but he ended up liking it. There's a little but ok beer selection - I got Descheutes Mirror Pond, which was served straight out of the bottle (I guess I could have gotten a glass if I'd asked?). Went there for New Year's dinner at last minute. The food was surprisingly good. Nuce staff, clean and nice warm cozy feeling from the fireplaces. First time here and I loved it. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. She even brought us out a sample of the Loganberry Sauce because we had never heard of it before. I had the German Pancake which is and egg and something that is cooked to almost a crepe consistency in the oven. It was so delicious. Our favorite go to for the best breakfast in Grants Pass. We have enjoyed all of the very fine hospitality they offer and as such we are very frequent guest, approximately 5 or more breakfast & several evening meals. I guess we would have to say for us there is no other place we would rather eat. We have enjoyed most all of the Elmer's restaurants starting back in 1982 and always found them to be most favorites of ours even while on the road traveling just because we know what we will be served as good of meal as can be had. My family and I arrived from Northern Washington for dinner. I usually have great experiences at Elmer's. After we was seated for over 10 minutes a waiter came and asked us what we wanted for drinks. Everyone ordered water. We waited another 10 minutes. I realized then that he did have an attitude, like he was just going through the motions to serve us but didn't want to. The restaurant was 1/4 full. He may have had a rough day, I don't know, but I just finished driving about 500 miles and I was not in the mood to embarrass him. I have no problem calling out people like that. I'm sure he had no idea if he gave us mediocre service I'd still tip well over standard. I give recognition to people in the service industry. As we walked out a young lady asked if we waited to long. I mentioned we could not even get a glass of water in that time. It's too bad this is ended up being a bad review. Just home from our recent dinner - 27 April, 2015, 5:41pm. Seated as soon as we walked in, by a lovely woman, who turned out to be the manager. Our waitress was Rayn H., per the ticket, and she is AWESOME. Hubby ordered Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, for me, the 'Crabacado' omelette. Drinks were served before we ordered, exactly as we wanted them. I heard hubby order his, but I'm pretty sure he mumbled - he was served a REAL Steak and Eggs plate, and he cannot eat steak, due to tooth problems. My omelette was beautiful! Poor Rayn was mortified, and got him a new order of Chicken Fried Steak within minutes, and even the manager came over to apologize. I CANNOT compliment the staff here enough, and it was NOT your fault! Our ticket came out fine, and we tipped well - Thank You RAYN!!! read more
