We enjoyed our breakfast at Elmer's before checking out Portland. I wanted to try the Lingonberry Crepes which was refreshing and delicious. My boyfriend tried the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and enjoyed his meal as well. The restaurant itself was clean and could use some updates, but felt elegant at the same time. It wasn't a busy morning, but service was just okay. Our waitress took our order, dropped the food, and only came back to drop the bill without checking on us for refills or asking how everything was. We really enjoyed our Oregon vacation and when we are back in town I would give this restaurant a try again! read more

We visited Elmer's while trying to find an option for a turkey platter for one of the guest's birthdays. The food was good, but nothing amazing. I had the German pancake, which was huge and felt like dessert more than breakfast. The service was good when we could find someone, but we found it to be short staffed leaving many dirty tables and unpleasant bathrooms. It served its purpose, but we won't be back. read more

I went here because they had grilled fish (cod). The fish was tasty so long as it was still hot; when it cooled it was hard and clammy. The rice was tasty so long as it was the part underneath the fish, so some of the tasty seasoning came off on it; otherwise rather bland. The veggies (broccoli and carrots this season) were inedible. He was friendly and engaging from the first moment and kept up his witty banter the whole time we were there. Outstanding Breakfast and Service! Elmer's at 10001 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, Oregon was the perfect start to my morning. The service was friendly, fast, and welcoming and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel right at home. I ordered a black coffee and it was amazingly hot, bold, and full of flavor. The classic German pancake deserves its own spotlight. It was out of this world... light, delicious, and prepared perfectly. I also enjoyed a traditional breakfast of three eggs, crispy hash browns, and toast. Everything was cooked just right and served with a smile. I have been going to Elmer's for over 30 years and recently noticed portions getting smaller. Had breakfast, which is what there known for, it was overpriced for the portion size, I actually left there still hungry. Overall, the service was good, and they keep a very clean environment but not enough to make me want to continue coming back. Sad because I always support local businesses. read more

I'm not normally a chain restaurant person, and while Elmers is more of a small local chain, it's not a standalone place I have eaten at several Elmer's over the years, but it had been a long time This particular place has a great gas fireplace place that I was sitting near on a cold winter day after dropping my honey off at the airport. It definitely added to the ambience. At this point, I don't remember exactly what I ordered. Some eggs, some potatoes, you know just basic breakfast food. It was all fine. The server made sure my mug was filled with coffee. What more do I really want from a breakfast joint? The other thing that's nice about Elmer's, especially at the early hour when I visited, is how much personal space you get. A lot of times and places, you're really hunched over a small little table. Came in about an hour before closing after driving for 12 hours moving from Nevada to Portland. Staff greeted us immediately upon arrival and allowed us to take our time while eating and constantly checked in with us to make sure we were taken care of. As far as the food goes, also 5 stars. When I travel in Washington and Oregon I always search Yelp for a local breakfast spot. If nothing jumps out at me I end up going to Elmers. While this is a northwest chain restaurant they are BY FAR the best chain breakfast option. They always have a big menu of sweet and salty options, the food is consistently really good, and service is fast and friendly. Today I ordered the cinnamon roll pancake, which is always delicious. I made a combo out of it and got two over easy to eggs and a side of bacon to go with it. Their bacon is high quality and always really good. It's a version of Denny's. Right next to Best Western Pony Soldier so very convenient. Been around since 1960! Although busy, never had to wait for seating. Known for outstanding (!) Breakfast fare, dinner was also adequate. If alcohol is desired they have super economically priced beer and wine! Growing up in Ohio... we had Bob Evan's. In Portland, I'm so excited we found Elmer's. The breakfast menu is expansive... and will meet everyone's taste. (Meat lovers to vegetarians). The cinnamon swirl pancakes are as decadent as they sound. The omelettes are perfection: good portion size, with lots of fresh/hearty fillings and toppings to chose from. We've always enjoyed good service, with frequent check-ins for coffee refills. Can't wait til our next Elmer's outting. read more

Honestly, having never visited Elmer's before, as we live out of state, I didn't have high expectations. That said, I was pleasantly surprised. While I won't recommend the coffee (lol there's so many amazing coffee places in Oregon, so it's hard to compete with that anyway) I will say their egg meals and pancake meals were delicious. Our first visit, my 5yo had the cub cake on the kids menu (super cute that the kids menu doubles as a short coloring book with activities, as well as giving 4 crayons in their own packaging) and loved it. I had the Tillamook Potato cake meal, and it was quite good. Our second visit before flying home, my 5yo who had initially wanted another cub cake changed their mind and chose the kids French toast instead, and loved it. This time I had the Crabocado omelette. OMG! Where has THAT been my entire life?! Dungeoness crab, avocado, bacon, cheese *DROOL* And I mean, you could taste ALL of those ingredients. Zero complaints! I chose the pancakes as a side, and I was honestly surprised at how good they were. As a person who usually takes half my food home, this time I devoured every single morsel. No regrets. The service was very good. Every single person I met smiled and was polite and friendly. I had 2 different servers for each of my visits. This may be a silly detail, but I loved that when a Spanish speaking family was seated in the booth next to us, they were able to order in Spanish and our server spoke fluent Spanish as well. It was really nice to see that inclusion. There was a code needed to use the washroom (suppose that makes sense as there seems to be a high homeless population in Portland), but our server was able to quickly help with that information. All in all, I would definitely recommend eating here and look forward to visiting again. read more

Elmer's always hits and is consistently good. Visited the one in Poulsbo several years ago and then it closed shortly after. Haven't been back since then and was so excited to find an Elmer's while visiting Portland! Tonight's dinner with my spouse included the Prime Rib, cooked medium, and the stuffed hash browns. Both dishes were cooked perfectly. The Prime Rib was so flavorful, tender, and the crust had the yummiest seasoning. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The onion rings served with the dish were a nice add and perfectly crisp. The stuffed hash browns were also so good. Well-balanced as far as flavors and a well-rounded dish with a biscuit and fresh fruit served as sides. The biscuit was fluffy and had good texture. I've had enough bad prime ribs. The quality of the one at Elmer's leads me to believe that ff they do this one well, pretty much any menu item is gonna be good. Lastly, we had a great waitperson - friendly and attentive. YUM!! After picking my mom up from the airport & we were starving so we stumbled upon Elmers. A delicious pancake house with so many varieties of breakfast specials. Crepes, German pancakes, Belgian waffles and more. We tried a little of everything between the four of us and were pleasantly surprised with how delicious everything was. Triple berry French toast combo. Elmers is one of our go to breakfast spots, especially the one in Portland on Sandy Blvd. The berry compote was delicious and the combination of sweet and tangy at the same time. The French toast was tender, still had the bite and full of vanilla flavor. My two eggs were cooked perfectly. When I sliced it down the middle the ran nicely on to the plate. Truthfully I would choose a different restaurant. We walked in last night and the manager wasn't very kind. She told us she wouldn't sit us unless everyone ordered something which I understand on a busy Sunday morning but it was a slow Thursday night and I'm thinking to myself you would turn business away because not everyone ordered something when there is only 2 tables in the whole restaurant ? We had a group of 5 and 2 of us just wanted to sit with our buddies who were getting a snack. Once we did end up ordering the woman who took the order just mean mugged us when we only ordered hot chocolate and a side. We followed your rules I don't know why you are mad.
