ill not be returning to any Elmer's again As my wife and I were eating dinner recently at their location on Market Street in Salem a customer came in and used a racial slur directed at mexicans. My wife and the waitress are mexican. I know you can not know what will come out of a customers mouth, i would not have provided him service. His excuse was that he had served his country and did not mean any harm by what he said. he was obviously a regular as his coffee and water was brought to him. We paid our bill and left. The waitress was very apologetic and the manager did talk to him about his language. but his order was taken. Needless to say we do no agree with Elmer's policy to allow people to say whatever they want with no consequences. read more

Horrible experience. My food was completely cold when I got it. The waitress was annoyed and insisted it couldn't be cold because she brought it to me right away, so she touched it with her hand to check. She then said she'd "nuke" it in the microwave for me. I objected since it was an omlette, as the eggs turn rubbery. She did it anyway and re-served me microwaved food that she had touched with her bare hand. I cut open the omlette and found the mushrooms were completely raw! They still made me pay for the meal and the cashier told me there was nothing he could do about it. I complained to their corporate office, and they said they'd send me a voucher for a free meal (as if I wanted to ever eat there again). I never even received the voucher in the mail as promised. read more

Why must you keep changing the menu???? They use to have a steak soup, and a turkey noodle soup- not anymore. These are sad days for me.

This was my first time at Elmer's and I was impressed with the food, but not the service. It took the servers about 20 minutes to come up and take our order, then they came to our table 20 minutes after we were noticeably done to ask how we were going to pay. We then had to go to the front of the restaurant because they forgot to give us our actual bill. We felt like we were stuck there so no I will not be going back to this Elmer's. read more

I came in to have breakfast with my kids and our waitress was great, no problem there..when we got our meals my pancakes had egg shells mixed in them and so did my kids as well.. my scrambled eggs weren't cooked all the way through, and I addressed​ the situation but nothing was done.. after I left I started burping up my food and my kids & I started feeling sick.. stomach ache, and diarrhea... HORRIBLE!! I definitely will not be coming back here.... read more

Bland beyond belief. My boyfriend ordered biscuits and gravy. Hardly any gravy and he said it tasted like paste. I was already thinking about the whole Elmer's glue analogy because my hashbrowns were undercooked and flavorless. The biscuits were like just plain water and flour and lacked the usual yummy buttery,saltyness biscuits have. Even the coffee had the flavor of burnt water. Elmer's what can I say, you think you can go to a "nice place" to eat and you end up regretting it. I have had two bad experiences worth mentioning I went here once for breakfast with my wife, her omelet came out fine and looked good. However mine, had been garnished with a huge gob of hair! Least to say I had them take it back and had a fresh one made. The dining experience was very mediocre and if not for past experiences I would not have gone back. Another episode I had, myself and my wife went to the bar section and ordered the prime rib dinner for both of us. It came out after 20 minutes or so and being experienced in the food industry it was very obvious to me that BOTH of our prime ribs were reheated from the night before. The drinks were okay, but service was lacking. When I'm paying upwards of 15 dollars a plate for prime rib, I expect that it be fresh. I will definitely not be coming back here anytime soon. This Elmer's needs some help with quality. read more

Our experience here was fine, but the one star is because we came in when a free birthday meal was sent to us via email (from elders corporate after registering on their website), they refused to take it even though the fine print indicated nothing of the sort, and they refused to honor it. We are in Salem visiting from Tennessee. While here, our friends Cliff & Sandy Owens brought us to Elmer's. Can't say enough good things about it. Our waitress, a beautiful little lady with a great sense of humor, treated us like one of the family and gave us the best service ever. The food was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed both visits to Elmer's. Wish you were in Tennessee! read more

went a few weeks ago, after a 10 year absence. food was average, good breakfast variety. place was dead at 4pm on a weekday. one other person came in during our stay. wait staff was excellent, very attentive, except drink refills. why water can't be refilled is beyond me. i got their blueberry pancakes, decent and very large in size. you get 4 big cakes. hash browns were just average. AND if you like Thomas Kinkade, you'll LOVE this place. his paintings decorate the whole place. AND if you like country western (modern), you'll also LOVE this place. they were rockin' out to it. this place beats Denny's any day of the week. read more

The food was great at this restaurant, along with the service. I was traveling thru Salem and left my credit card there by mistake. After several days I realized my card was missing, and I called them, and they had it and was very willing to mail it back to me. Stopped here for lunch on Christmas Eve day. Ordered salads, a Caesar and a dinner salad, which took 50 minutes to arrive. No refills on tea or water, even after asking. The food was mediocre. They closed at 1 pm since it was Christmas Eve, and we had to get someone to unlock the door for us to let us out. The first person didn't know how to unlock it, so after 5 minutes of fooling around, she was able to find someone else to open it. Yikes, let us out of here! read more

I was very unhappy with how we were treated here. We got here early on a Sunday morning. It was pretty quiet. While the food came quick l felt like I was being rushed to order and then when food came rushed out. Food was set before us and a moment later so was the bill. Friendly server. Food was ok, however, the decor was very dated, carpeting dirty and worn. Paintings over our booth showed a layer of dust on the frames, and it appeared that the place could use a "sprucing up". We waited for fifteen minutes for our check, and had to remind the person who took our credit card that we were still waiting. We will return to the Woodburn facility. read more

Went here with my husband, slow service and bad food. It was a busy Friday morning but they only had one friendly old waitress working tables. When we finally got our food half of my husbands order was wrong. In general the coffee was bitter and gross, hash undercooked and tasted like butter, eggs were microwaved, french toast had a weird taste. Got food poisoning after eating a BLT here on 3/25/15-missed 2 days of work with severe vomiting and diarrhea. The other 2 people with me also had cramping and diarrhea. I will never eat here again-ate the the Albany one many times with no problems. read more
