I haven't been to an Elmer's in over a decade. This one was busy on a late Sunday morning, but the wait was fairly short. Restaurant was clean, well maintained, & GM was working & identified by his monogrammed shirt. My German Pancake looked exactly as pictured. I ordered extra strawberries & it was delicious! Overall satisfying visit, five stars to my waitress Wynter. Thank you! What happened was I had ordered a strawberry crepe, and it came extremely wet and soggy. Not only it looked sweaty, there were water dripping everywhere on the plate. It was the only thing on this planet more nauseating than Randy Newman. I had it returned and got a new crepe. Significant improvement, it was piping hot and rather intact. Flavor-wise, impeccable. However, I don't know if dear kitchen staff had determined that the problem with the first soggy crepe was that the strawberries were washed and thus decided not to wash this batch of berries? I had some dirt and petals/leafs inside my crepe from strawberries, and they could have been removed, had the berries been washed. There were four of us and we stopped at Elmer's Sunday morning. My mouth is still salivating over the best breakfast ever. It was a crab omelet with avocado and hollandaise sauce. It was so good. I have many good memories coming to Elmer's while growing up, but a couple bad staff experiences a few years back put us off coming to any Elmer's restaurants for a while, sadly. However, this morning's visit was fantastic! We came in for breakfast just before noon on a Saturday, and it was super packed but we only had to wait about five minutes for a table. All the staff we interacted with were attentive and friendly, and they even had a guy going around making balloon animals for the kids. The omelette and crepe breakfasts we ordered were perfect and tasty and came within 15 minutes, which is impressive considering every table was filled! I think we will be coming in more often again! read more

I wouldn't normally be caught dead at a place like this unless under extreme duress. My dining companions picked this place because my girlfriends mom likes conventional diner food. There is hardly anything I feel safe eating here. So places like this I am stuck eating oatmeal. If you like over buttered fried foods than this place is definitely for you. Eat your heart out. We love Elmer's and eat there often. However, they may want to work on their take-out service. As noted in other posts, you might do well to check your order before leaving. The server asked if I would like some jam for the biscuit and I asked for Marionberry; she put two packets in the bag. When I got home there were only two pancakes instead of the three that should have been in the order, the server had put Marionberry syrup in the bag instead of jam, and there was not butter for the pancakes and french toast. When I called about the order they did offer to provide the missing items if I would return to the restaurant. Since we live more than 15 minutes away this really was not an option. I mentioned a partial refund but all I got was a, "I'm very sorry about your order." read more

They could really increase the flavor offerings including peach and spec (bacon) and then I'd be more likely to come back more often. I was driving home tonight and thinking about getting home and enjoying dinner and some time with the Tax Deduction when the cell phone (i.e. Electronic Leash) went off with The Wife's ringtone. The gist of the conversation was she was tired and couldn't face making dinner. Hard to blame her, she has been sick of late with the latest virus du jour compliments of the Tax Deduction's daycare center. We decided to meet at Elmer's since it was conveinient more than anything else. I am not a big fan of Elmer's, at least I haven't been for a long time. Bad service, overpriced food; typical chain problems. However it was where she wanted to go and I live by the saying, "Happy wife, happy life." Doesn't matter what kind of day you have had, doesn't matter where you are, either coming home or meeting at a restaurant but when you see your Tax Deduction after a hard day at the office and he/she smiles and gets excited you're there for them it just makes everything worthwhile. I pulled up along side The Wife's car not real happy about my day or being at Elmer's, but they looked so excited it seemed like the perfect place to be. I'd hate to meet any man or woman who doesn't get moved by that everytime. But I digress... We walked in and were greeted warmly, seated promptly with menus and more important doodling paper and crayons. "Hmm, new menu." I thought to myself as I started to canvas the lamenated pages of chain restaurant fare. We ordered a dungeness crab salad for the Wife and the hot turkey dinner for me. The Tax Deduction in a moment of three year old logic asked for bacon and pancakes, and the waitress said it was no problem. That was good enough for a fourth star right there... almost. It wasn't too busy so things flowed well, the Wife had a full coffee cup and my dinner salad arrived pretty quick. Soon enough the entrees came, as did pancakes and bacon. I had drained my iced tea fairly quickly and tried to make some eye contact to get lifelong waitress lady to give up the steeped, cold refreshment I craved. No luck. The dinner I have to say was extremely good for a chain on almost all fronts. My vegetable medley was made up of heretofore unknown bits and chunks of green, white and red things... couldn't tell you what a darn one of them was outside of broccoli (which I believe is the Devil's own creation he uses as astro-turf). Now that shouldn't be a bad thing, I am a picky eater, so no deduction for that. Finally at the end of the meal after the plates were cleared I finally got a refill of iced tea. I wanted to give them back the fourth star, I really did, but c'mon lifelong waitress Lady, you should know the cardinal rule of iced tea drinkers, we live for the quick refill. So Elmer's was actually somewhat impressive tonight. Maybe next time the Wife wants to come here I won't roll my eyes and try to figure out how to talk her into the iffy chinese buffet down the street. read more

This review goes way back to 1984-1988. This is a restaurant that was a favorite breakfast spot of Mom and I back in our NW days in Vancouver, WA. I am reviewing this location as this one is the most visited since was close to our house over in Hazel Dell or was it Hazel Dale? We crossed Mill Plain daily. Elmer's how you hold so many dear memories for me as a young kid! This was a fun family happy restaurant! Denver Omelet, hash browns, orange juice, iced tea. Yes this is what I would order every time, they were the King of Omelets back in the day. Loaded up with fresh ingredients, and they used fresh cracked eggs. I can not judge the Elmer's of 2011 however I am just happy to know they are still around for my Nostalgic cure and fix. I will be planning a visit soon, has been way too long since I have eaten at Elmer's. Nothing is as good now as it was in the 80's, seems a lot of places have changed Ownership and or cut cost with Quality, portions, etc. I love you Elmer's and thank you for the happy memories dining out back in the day with Mom. This is my "go-to" place for breakfast. Service is good; food and prices are good and the menu has a little something for everyone. I've never had a bad meal at this location. The food is traditional American style, tons of meat and loaded with cheese and dairy, but it's good. Sides of fruit are fresh sliced and always good. After working my way through the menu...Yukon French Toast or Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs (how can you ever go wrong with Chicken Fried Steak) are my go to meals. Let me start by saying, I love diners. Primarily, I love breakfast. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about coming to Elmer's. All I can say is that this was a nearly flawless experience, and I will be sure to return next time when I'm in the area. Food: I ordered a breakfast scramble, and right off the bat I could tell they used quality ingredients. Everything was flavorful, evenly distributed and presented perfectly too. The next treat had to be their German pancakes, good lord they are delicious! I am actually sad I didn't order them, but when I seen my co-worker's order come by, I had to snag a piece. Attention America, we need to toss the crap we will call pancakes and institute these discs of deliciousness! They are basically over-sized crepes, but with so much more flavor. My only criticism is that I wish they didn't use the syrup infested fruit instead of fresh fruit. Small nitpick though. One thing that was really disappointing was their Arnold Palmers. It was not mixed well, and immediately regretted the purchase. In fact, it wouldn't be that upsetting if they weren't so expensive. Atmosphere: This is probably the main reason this place lost a star. It's weird because looking on the outside, the building seems like a relatively new building, but on the inside it seems really old and dirty. Not sure if I caught this place at a bad time, but the theming seemed old, like the place was born in the 70s and hadn't been cleaned much since then. Of course, I ate in the bar area, and didn't see the main dinning area so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I'm not joking when I say that I almost walked out after stepping in. But, we needed to eat something quick, and I am glad we stood. Staff: Well obviously I have to give my compliments to the chefs! Seriously, they deserve a standing ovation. While I'm giving props, I have to send my best regards to waitresses. They were incredible. I felt at home, they were accommodating, provided great insight and had amazing personas! Not sure if all of Washington is like this, but I definitely felt welcomed. Price: Other than the Arnold Palmers, I felt that everything was reasonably priced. The quality, portion and excellent flavor of the food was certainly worth the price. Overall: If they just change up the bar area a little bit, this is definitely an establishment that is worthy of 5 stars. Kudos to the staff for running such an amazing place. read more

I would like to start off by saying my first experience with elmers was questionable, but boy am I glad that we gave them another shot. Our first visit was on valentine's day (romantic, I know,) and they were PACKED. and plainly, the food wasn't any good. But the manager apologized extensively, comping our meals and giving us a gift certificate to return if we chose to. The second visit was a complete 180. Our server was friendly and prompt, as well as being very knowledgeable about the menu so they could provide proper recommendations. I got the crepes and my fiance got the ranch house burger. I studied French for several years and have mastered my own crepe recipe. But I was actually impressed. They really were something special. My fiance said it is one of the best economically priced burgers in the area, and it beats Red Robin hands down. Since then Elmer's has become a go to place for us! In order of how much I liked them these are the dishes I've tried: prime rib (available after 4,) crepes, steak and eggs, Alfredo, and burger! They're all delicious. But the prime rib is AMAZING. get it with the Yukon gold mashed potatoes, and add gravy. You'll never be happier lol. read more

Another restaurant that I'm surprised we haven't tried sooner. Our breakfast this morning was great. My new favorite dish is the Crabacdo Omelette... all I can say is wow. All of the ingredients were nice and fresh and I don't know if I've ever tasted better Hollandaise. Every dish we had at the table was great and the service was super friendly. Too much food, we ate too much and took some home. :) I was looking to find an alternative to our favorite breakfast spot, Kitchen Table Cafe, that might save us a little as well. Looks like Elmer's prices are right in line with KTC (maybe $2-3 less in total), but it will be nice to change things up once in a while. This will be added to the rotation. read more

Grandparents day was yesterday [Sunday] We were here with two of our grandchildren both under 12! Timofae age 5 and Svetlana age 9. We had a good meal, Tomato parmesan soup which I tried for the first time was delicious and a Seafood fiesta Basket was great as well. When I was picking up my to-go dinner last night (the third this week) I was informed by the manager that all restaurants in the Elmer's chain are no longer going to offer food for takeout. I've been regularly ordering takeout from various Elmer's restaurants for years. Needless to say, this is hugely disappointing. For many people, including the busy, elderly, handicapped and minorities, the only way they can enjoy good restaurant food is by takeout. I'm a handicapped senior citizen with mobility issues. Getting in and out of restaurants to pick up orders is just doable but long waits for a table, sitting in tight booths and maneuvering to get to tables is not. After months of COVID-19 restrictions restaurants are just re-opening after being shut down for months, still only open at 50% and I would think they would be looking for ways to increase sales, not decrease them. I'm really disappointed in this reduction in service and will not be dining there again. read more

Was told today that they don't do take out anymore. That's a terrible decision especially given Covid is still with us and my kids are under 12 and can't be vaccinated yet. We're new to the area and so, for our first real family dinner out, we wanted to try out a local place instead of a big, National chain. Elmers was a good, solid choice! Our son gave the chicken tenders a thumbs up, while his sister enjoyed her burger. Always the breakfast guy, my husband had to try the German pancake, which he was excited to see on the menu--he hadn't had one in years. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and was really glad I did! With the exception of the German pancake being a little undercooked and doughy on the bottom, everything was well prepared and delicious. The food was tasty, however the service we received was horrendous. The waitress, Chris B, started out warm and friendly, but as the meal went on, we were not checked AT ALL, my husband had to flag her down as she catered to customers around us (from the conversations I overheard, they all on a first name basis, so it's fair to assume they were regulars) to get the milk he ordered, my grandmother had to flag her down just to ask for a box after she slapped down the check, mumbled thank you, not bothering to check if we needed anything or if we were doing alright, and then raced off to chat up a couple she recognized, seated and took their orders immediately. By the way, my family was very polite and the only words that were spoken was hello, our orders which were all pretty straight forward followed up with please and thank you's. Again, the food was good, it was the service is that was deplorable. Granted it was Sunday morning and was busy, however, I don't feel that's an excuse for the neglectful service we received! read more

Elmer's Pancake House represents the best of the breed of chains that serve breakfast all day. Unlike the rest of the pretenders, Elmer's actually knows how to make a proper german pancake. They are baked in an oven, rise nicely, have wonderfully crunchy crusts, and smell like moms kitchen growing up. 5 stars to whomever is cooking. The waiter gets about half that, he was lazy. We did get our food served promptly, which is what matters. The food was quite good all around. I've been to Elmer's all over the place, and this one have me the best German Pancake I've ever had at a restaurant. Take it up a notch on service guys and thus would have been a 5 star review. read more
