Had brunch today. The people are super nice and very attentive. I have never had chips and salsa with breakfast but I loved it because I used the salsa on my omelet. Came in for breakfast and was immediately greeted by someone in the kitchen, then escorted to our table right away by someone else, and then we were served by the sweetest kindest server I've encountered in a very long time. I didn't catch her name but she had very long black hair in a braid. The food was great, i had the biscuits and gravy meal and my fiancé had the eggs Benedict. My meal was great, crispy hashbrowns, yummy bacon, phenomenal sausage. The only thing I didn't like was the actual biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were maybe microwaved as they got hard after a few minutes and the gravy didn't have much flavor but the texture was great, not too watery. I had bookmarked this restaurant so that we could try on a trip to Vegas, but I had gotten outvoted and my party wanted to go to the Black Bear Diner. Went, found out it was gonna be an hour and a half wait, nobody wanted to wait, so guess what? I got to pull out this little gem of a gem whole in the wall card out of my back pocket and headed over here after calling and discovering there was no wait time for our party of 12! Got there, was seated right away, and Toya was our server. Toya took our drink orders and got them to us fairly quickly. We arrived right at the beginning of a new rush/mass exodus of the previous rush so we knew we might have to be patient. For the coffee drinkers, the coffee is on point for what you'd expect at a diner/restaurant of this type. It's not gonna be Starbucks or your bean of choice quality, but the way I judge coffee at places like this is if I can drink it black and its palatable, then it passes, and here, it passed. I wanna do a lot of talking here, but all the pics I've posted pretty much say almost everything I need to say with the exception of a few things I'll put here. The Las Vegas Spicy fries were not spicy for me, but could be for some. the asada and chorizo compliment the fries perfectly, but the spicy aioli, aka salsa macha or chili oil, while tasty, was too much oil, too little spice for my personal preference, but I will say it had a good flavor. These fries are PERFECT for post drinking eating! The crepes were tasty to me, but I honestly don't know how to judge them. If they were supposed to be like a super thin pancake, then they were a little too thick, but I like a little thick, so flavor wise, everything came together and the crepe tasted like a thinner pancake that was cooked properly. My brother enjoyed his waffle and said it was good. Everyone LOVED the diced potatoes. My chicken enchilada omelet could have used a tad more spice and a wee bit more sauce, but if that was the only things to complain about, I'll take it. However, speaking of complaining, even though I would never claim to be a chilaquile connoisseur, the chilaquiles should have/could have had the crema/cream drizzled OVER them instead of on the side, and crumbled queso was absent from both the red and green chilaquiles, which to me, are two big NO-NO's! On the plus side, they had crunch, which is ALWAYS good! Sooooo, with that being said, all dishes were enjoyed, my friend's from Vegas were once again pissed off that it took me coming out to introduce them to a spot like this in their own town, and the consensus was that we'll be coming back next time we're in town! read more

It's just not that good! That was my takeaway from my one and only visit to Ely's recently. You get the idea that it is going to be a Mexican style diner experience with the menu having such a Mexican flare to it, and the menu has the diner feel to it as well. I wasn't about to go off course and try anything too Americanized, so of course I went with a breakfast Mexican burrito. It was bland to say the least, lacking any flavor whatsoever, the potatoes left much to be desired, and the coffee was poor as well!
