There's one convenient kiosk for ordering, and the menus are large and super easy to read. They offer a variety of drinks, all organized into sections on the menu. Final Thoughts: 3.00/5 New matcha place that took over a corner in Vietnam Town. This place was getting quite a bit of attention likely due to its popularity in Elk Grove and Mira Mesa. Also randomly showed up on the IG feed with their mascot person, so it definitely piqued my interest. Given all of the advertising and reviews, perhaps I was hoping for something more. Slightly underwhelmed and will have to be a 3 stars for me today. Food: Pate Chaud (not pictured): 2.0/5 This is a Vietnamese pastry. Puff pastry on the outside with a savory meat filling on the inside. Everyone had their own way of making this and seasoning it, so more of a preference. The puff pastry shell is kind of flat. Difficult to tell if it's shell is homemade though. Perhaps the filling was too wet or it stayed out for too long and the pockets of butter slightly melted. Nice and golden on the outside. For the filling, the meat was packed together, so they constructed everything raw together first before baking it, which is how I usually do it versus cooking the minced meat first and then constructing and then finally baking for the layers. Flavor of the meat is aiight, but balanced. Drinks: Banana Matcha Latte: 3.2/5 Their matcha flavor is quite nice. There's a slight bitterness and umami to it. Color is just borderline swamp water and oxidizing. Seems to be enough of the matcha though because the flavor comes through well enough even with the amount of milk and cream. Sweetness is quite good. I'm not a fan of the banana cream. The cream is so light in flavor. Appears to be fresh banana mixed into the cream. I just don't get enough of that flavor, which is interesting given the flavor of banana can be strong. Consistency wise, it was kind of thin even with the drink fully combined. Double Matcha Cream: 3.5/5 Friend's drink that I tried for review purposes. Their cream is quite sweet for me, but maybe that's what's making this drink. Again, that matcha flavor isn't super strong in the creams. Base of the drink is essentially the same as mine. Slight bitterness and sweetness to it. Menu: Small, but good variety Their menu has a nice variety too it and I also appreciate that they don't overcrowd the menu. They offer coffee based drinks and matcha drinks, so you have that option. Other non-caffeinated drinks are available. Would probably recommend these for a hot summer day given how refreshing they look. For the pastries, they do have x1 sweet and x1 savory option. For the sweet option, they sell the egg tarts. --------- Quality: Aiight Their matchas seem to be alright. Maybe just ever so slightly too dark for me, but I will take more matcha over less. They did take quite a few minutes to prepare the drinks, so they may or may not have whisked it to order. It's done behind the counter/corner, so I didn't really see or pay much attention to begin with. Matcha may be matched though given the color. Taste is nice and strong, slightly nutty, slightly umami. Price: Depends Looking at the drinks, they seem to be within a normal range. Prices will be within $6 to $8 ranges. Of note, there is an upcharge for the milk substitutes. Almond and oat milk are both available options. However, if you look at the pate chaud in particular, $3.50 per piece is so expensive. They do have a deal where you can buy 3 for $9, which again, is not a good price. My recommendation is going to get them at Thanh Son. Their price is perhaps not better and totally affected by inflation, but whoever makes that puff pastry, has truly mastered the art of making those. Service: Interesting interaction The only reason why we got an interaction was because they ran out of their boba. We ordered on the kiosk that's tucked away in the corner and in front of the pastry display case, so zero interactions until you get called up for your drinks. We got called up because they ran out of the mochi boba. When we asked for an alternative, the employees were also quite unaware that they were out of toppings contrary to their sign advertising their topping options. Perhaps it was nearing the end of the day or they were too hyped up, so everything ran out. Ambiance: Quaint Little Corner Very quaint little corner of Vietnam Town. Interior is small and not too many tables to sit inside, but there are tables placed outside too. Very shaded area and optimal amounts of seating for this place. Simple interior, bright and cool with the shade. Location/Parking: Vietnam Town I've talked about this location and parking so many times. There are parking spots, but it's a hit or a miss. The Egg Brûlée Coffee came topped with a Biscoff cookie, but other than that, it felt like a pretty standard iced coffee. It was watered down, and I couldn't taste any egg flavor at all. I'm also not sure what made it "brûlée" since there wasn't any distinct caramelized flavor or richness. The Pandan Matcha was even more disappointing. It was also very watered down, and I couldn't taste the pandan. The matcha itself lacked flavor and wasn't enjoyable. Overall, both drinks were underwhelming and didn't live up to the hype. Unfortunately, the drinks were underwhelming. They tasted very milky, and the matcha flavor was barely noticeable. The banana and pandan flavors were also very subtle, making the drinks taste bland. the drinks are wonderful! and I servers there are so kind to me, one of my new favorite place! My favorite coffee there is definitely, their Banana Toffee Latte and their Marble Latte! However, their matcha can be a bit less sweet in my opinion? Overall, they are still adjusting and experimenting around their matcha balance! I still buy them again Lol.
