This was SOO GOOD. I was on a quick trip to Stanford and while walking downtown, we stumbled upon this little spot. I later found out they have several locations throughout the state, including some in SoCal as well. I ordered their soft serve mixed with milk, half matcha, and wow, it was amazing. The soft serve was incredibly smooth and melted in my mouth, and I've honestly never had matcha that was so well-balanced: not too sweet, but still with a light, earthy flavor that really comes through as it melts. I had such a great experience here. Service was quick and easy, and everything was smooth from start to finish. Parking was also convenient! I used a structure just a couple blocks away.
Came here for a matcha run on a holiday with my cousins so we ordered a lot of drinks, like 8+. The people working there were SO nice and patient with our massive order and all of our adjustments. There was no line when we came but I imagine it can get busy during the weekends. We got a variety of matcha and hojicha drinks. All of them are good! I liked how they were creamy but not overly heavy. The matcha and hojicha teas' flavors came through in the drinks and did not taste overpowered by milk nor additives. I was very satisfied with my matcha latte! They have drinks with fruits and other flavorings, and it seems like it's all made fresh without a reliance on flavored syrups. I love the pretty packaging and branding. It adds a classy touch to this food hall. I would want to try some of their baked goods in the future. This is a great addition to San Pedro Square market!
A few of us were in the area a little after 5pm on a Sunday and wanted a place to have a drink or snack. Maruwu Seicha showed up when I did a quick search on Yelp. I had been to their Palo Alto location and liked their drinks and cheese tarts. So, I recommended our group to give this location a try. They're in the Market Hall (the non-brick building) of San Pedro Square Market. Not sure if it's because of the time of the day, but unlike the Palo Alto location, the line here was pretty short. Our daughter wanted an iced matcha pistachio latte. Unfortunately, they're out of pistachio, and she ended up having a ube matcha latte instead. My husband and I shared a large size iced ube matcha latte w/ oat milk and half sweet. The two other folks in our group had an iced hojicha latte and an iced black sesame hojicha latte. There're plenty of tables inside the Market Hall and we're able to sit down and chat while enjoying our drinks. I really liked the ube flavor. While the oat milk option was not bad, I actually preferred the richer and creamer taste of the Hokkaido milk. Would stick with whole milk next time, despite the higher fat content, and save the $1 surcharge. I also wished they provided the option to reduce the amount of ice. The matcha/hojicha taste got diluted pretty quickly with so much ice in their drinks! I would still come here again if I'm in the area, but won't make an effort to drive here just for their matcha.
Really enjoy their Palo Alto location, so was excited they were conveniently now in Downtown San Jose in San Pedro Market. Stopped in for some matcha today and decided to try the Pistachio Matcha Latte. Although the matcha was a beautiful bright green and obvious they use a good amount of matcha, I found the mouthfeel of the drink too thick and gritty for my liking. The sweetness was a bit more than my liking, but I didn't choose to modify anything. Good caffeine buzz, but really was not a fan of the texture of this drink. Gritty and almost syrupy feeling drinking it. Service was quick and staff was super nice, not sure if it was just this drink in particular. I usually get their Matcha Latte or Matcha Latte with Snow Top and probably will stick to those in the future.
Stopped by San Pedro Square Market to try Maruwu Seicha to see the hype back in November but my drinks fell short to my expectations. The matcha isn't as strong as I liked, more milky and less bold. I got a matcha latte with hokkaido snow top and a guava peach matcha. The guava peach flavor was good but could slightly be more intense. After fully mixing my dream, all I could get was milk. Same with the matcha latte with hokkaido cream, everything felt more milky. The cream tops are more liquidy than thick. Overall, the lattes are smooth but lacks that earthiness that I would expect from a place that specializes in matcha. We came on a weekday afternoon so it was fairly empty. There's a kiosk and a cashier to order with. The decor is cute with some smiskis here and there. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it again unless I am in the area.
Matcha soft serve 4/5 very good matcha flavor and it was very milky and creamy. But I don't know if there was much matcha in it because I'm usually sensitive to caffeine and didn't feel it. Cheese tarts 4/5 - they are good but nothing amazing for the price. Strawberry flavor tasted very artificial
I've been to all of their locations and I'm a big fan of their matcha. I'm surprised that every time I've passed by, there's never a really long line. It might just be the times that I'm there so I don't know. All the locations are very fast with making orders though. One of my favorite matcha spots! If you come here, you do have to park in a parking garage or find nearby street parking. It can be a bit of a hassle since it's in downtown but the area has some good eats to explore as well!
Matcha gelato? Wu-hu! Maruwu Seicha is a matcha-centric business that appears to be associated with Pink Pink Tea Shoppe (since the latter's name is on their napkins). I was walking through San Pedro Square Market and had to swing back here after noticing that they have some gelato options. Despite a sign being posted stating that they don't do samples, I went ahead and ordered their Matcha No. 3 gelato ($6.50) without the courtesy of tasting it beforehand. Thankfully, it was excellent. The matcha is maybe a bit subtle for a gelato but the flavor is present in every bite and doesn't taper off. The texture is very creamy and free of ice crystals. The portion is very reasonable. There actually wasn't much of a line even though the area was in a San Jose Sharks pregame rush. Seating was still available in the building or outside. Overall, I had a great experience. If I decide to visit this part of downtown again, then I'll definitely be back for more desserts at Maruwu Seicha.

I adore straight matcha so I'm happy MS offers this. I've tried the location up SF when I want matcha and boba. This one is comparable. Consistency is key right? I enjoyed my drink. I did realized alter I probably shoulda gotten some boba as well, since I really do like that combo from here. A friend who loves pistachio desserts ordered the latte. He complained it was too sweet. On Sunday afternoon, I was craving something nice and refreshing and I was lucky. I found this spot in San Pedro market!! I've been to another location before up in the city so I didn't know they had one down here. I'm actually lactose intolerant, but the way they do their Matcha soft serve, my stomach doesn't have a reaction, at least not a bad one! Hee. As I stood in line, I realized they had the two lines one was for a cashier and the other one was a kiosk you could order with touchscreen. Initially, I went to the touch tone kiosk, but the line with the cashier went faster so I switched. Lol humans are better than computers! Hee The cashier was very nice and approachable. She said I could order the soft serve Matcha latte with almond milk and then add the soft serve on top. That's exactly what I did and got oat milk. They also had an Uber tartlet so I had to get one of those!! My order came rather quickly, and I was so excited to taste it!! To my surprise, they didn't have a seating area, but it's kind of a giant open cafeteria style seating. But some restaurants have a table out in front. I was able to sit right across the walkway from the entrance and enjoy my iced Matcha self-serve and Ube tartlet!! The obey tartlet was the perfect little snack to hit the spot, but I was kind of disappointed in the amount of ice or lack of oat milk that was in my drink! The whole cup was literally filled to the brim with ice and I was able to drink the Matcha portion of the latte within seconds of sipping.(see enclosed picture). As I sat checking my emails, I noticed the barista behind the counter come out from behind the counter, still wearing his glove gloves and go to the restroom, which is right across the way. I wasn't sure if he was going to the bathroom and would change his gloves afterwards so then I was curious...... I stopped waiting a couple minutes as the gentleman went to the bathroom and then came out still wearing the same gloves! Disgusting!! Because of this sanitary issue, I'm giving them two stars!! Everyone has to go to the bathroom and I'm understanding of that, but throw away your gloves and change them! Apparently the gloves are merely to protect himself and spread bacteria to us! I will definitely not be going back to this particular location.
This spot is located inside the San Pedro Square Market alongside a number of other eateries with plenty of shared seating both inside and in an outdoor area. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a food court, so I can't say I'd linger long. Parking is primarily street parking; there are some parking garages within walking distance as well. Maruwu Seicha is one of my favorite matcha spots--their matcha is always really good, and their ice cream and cheese tarts are also great. Their menu is limited, but I have yet to try anything that I do not enjoy. I like that they specialize, and they specialize well. The price for their specialty is that the prices err on the high side--drinks are around $7-9, and their desserts $5-7 per serving. I personally think that it's worth it, albeit I usually get it only once in a while. This location is usually not overly busy, and my order usually comes out quickly. The service isn't particularly friendly, but you order through a tablet and there isn't much interaction either way, so it isn't a huge factor in my opinion of this location. Overall, I'd definitely recommend stopping by, though I'd probably take my drink to-go. read more

Love the different Matcha options. I got the Matcha latte w/ the Hokkaido swirl on top & it was sooo good. I'll have to get it again the next time I come back. Service was good as well. Ambiance was great. Lots of food options, & spaces to eat. read more
We came here after having fun at an escape room in DT San Jose. After working up an appetite solving puzzles, we came here for a nourishing drink. I have no idea why I didn't take a picture of the drink itself, I think I was so hungry/thirsty, I just went straight to it. So sorry about that. My wife and I shared an iced ube matcha latte with oat milk (half sweetness) and my daughter had an iced ube matcha latte with whole milk (regular sweetness for the kid!). Stuff is pretty pricey here, probably no more so than other similar places in the area. The taste was good and we were a little peeved afterwards that we didn't get the Hokkaido milk (we reflexively order non-dairy, but the Hokkaido milk is more special and we would have liked to try that). The sweetness options are good to have and half-sweet was a good balance. The Ube taste was there, as well as the matcha, and it was a good blend. Took a little while to get the drinks, but it wasn't an excessive wait. Would I come back again? Sure, but not necessarily make a special trip or point of it. There are a lot of good choices for matcha places and this is on par with the better ones, but it didn't leave me thinking that it was a standout or an especially good value. But nevertheless, good overall. read more

Just went here the other day and it was great as usual. The matcha latte with a matcha snow top literally revived me in the middle of the day. There was no line, and our drinks were ready in under 5 mins. Nice indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy with friends. Will definitely be returning! read more

Grabbed a Hokkaido cream and matcha swirl soft serve in a waffle cone. Matcha was rich and perfectly balanced by the Hokkaido cream, waffle cone was crispy and slightly sweet. read more

Looks like there are two Business listings for the same place... Yes, it's the same place: Maruwu Seicha in Downtown San Pedro Square. I've been here a couple times with very different experiences. The first experience was brilliant, latest one...not so much. This review was for the most recent visit. I returned with a small crew for some Matcha treats and more. Unfortunately Maruwu Seicha didn't live up to the positive experience I had on my first initial visit. It's now more of a 3.5 *** experience downgraded to a 3*** This time the staff wasn't overly helpful. The heavy set male employee with glasses was in a world of his own, he seemed annoyed once asked a question and gave short abrupt answers that weren't helpful... more on the side of being rude. Um...we are the only people here, there is no rush. WTH?! They also don't offer Gelato samples, which I didn't realize. So be ready to fork out $7 for a small Gelato cup you may or may not like... #MatchaGalore: ~ SoftServe: Matcha & seasonal flavor Swirl - 4.5/5 Tasted exactly as advertised without being overly sweet. ~ Matcha Gelato No. 3 - 4/5 Great Matcha flavor without being too sweet or bitter. ~ Matcha Pistachio Gelato - 3.5/5 This was more of a Pistachio Gelato with a slight hint of Matcha notes at the end. Wasn't all that balanced. It was much better when we combined it with the Matcha Gelato No. 3. and ate it. ~ Matcha Latte + Snow Top - 4/5 Just a solid well balanced Matcha Late. For some reason it was not cold enough even though it had ice in it. ~ Strawberry Matcha Late + Snow Top - 4/5 Pricey! Very well balanced Strawberry and Matcha flavors. But, once again for some reason it was not cold enough even though it had ice in it. #CheeseTarts: I had my eye on the Cheese Tarts the first time I stopped by. We tried all for flavors available. The best part: None of them were too sweet or Tart, all of them were Creamy and not too heavy either. The down side was the price; I thought these bite size morsels were fairly pricey at $4.50 a piece. I mean they are tiny! ~ Uji Matcha Cheese Tart - 4/5 A very good Matcha Cheese Tart. Not too bitter or too sweet. ~ Hokkaido Cheese Tart - 4.5 This was more like a Hokkaido Cheesecake. It was a bit more dense than the others. ~ Fresh Taro Cheese Tart - 4.5/5 The best Cheese Tart by far... We could really taste the Taro. ~ Yuzu Matcha Cheese Tart - 3.5/5 (Seasonal Flavor) Not for me. I reckon Citrus and Yuzu fans will enjoy this more. Very Yuzu forward flavor profile with just a hint of Matcha on the back end. I tried enough items on the menu. Came by San Pedro for dinner before heading to the Christmas in the Park. It's been over 2 years since we've been to San Pedro square. Was so excited to see a matcha place. This is a chain. We've been to the Palo Alto location. They ran out of the matcha gelato but we got the Hokkaido Milk gelato for our kiddo - she likes it. kind of reminds me of frozen yogurt. Matcha soft serve in a cone - So good. The matcha flavor was strong. Service was quick. That area overall was loud and crazy though. Would come back. read more
This is a review of just their cheese tarts, which were delicious! They are unbelievable airy and light despite their rich appearance. I'm not the biggest matcha fan, so I personally preferred the regular cheese tart over the matcha one. They can be eaten in a variety of ways, either cold or reheated. Cold gave it a denser texture, while reheated was the best for me, which is what made it warm and airy. read more
I came here during peak hours on a Saturday, but the worker got the line down and got our drinks out so fast! Their brown sugar matcha was so good, I drank it all so fast. I went and tried their matcha cheese tart. It was crumbly and had even flavors of the cheese and matcha. 10/10 for sure. read more
My first time at this location - I've only been to the Palo Alto one before. This location is in San Pedro Square, with street parking available. I came on a Tuesday afternoon, so luckily it wasn't difficult to find parking. There was only one party ahead of us, so our drinks came out immediately. We tried the seasonal special - Hawaiian Guava & Peach Matcha latte. The default is half sweetness, but I opted for no sweetener. I think the guava and peach might be my favorite so far!! They added a great tartness to the drink, feeling almost yogurt-like. It worked perfectly with no sugar, since the fruit sweetened the drink for me. I think the fruit was my favorite part - the matcha fortunately didn't taste grassy but didn't taste earthy or rich. read more

Tried the matcha strawberry latte with Hokkaido whole milk. The strawberry puree is so good! Overall the drink isn't too sweet even with the strawberry. I'd love to try their hojicha next time. read more

The stand is tucked away in the corner of San Pedro Market where there are a bunch of other food and dessert stands! When I went, there was live music outside so we were able to chill and have some entertainment. The worker there was super helpful and answered every question that I had. The matcha and hojicha themselves were super strong and creamy, and it wasn't overly sweet. Would def recommend if you're able to find parking. read more

Final rating - 3.5 I tried this place for the first time, and ordered their pistachio Matcha latte. The matcha quality seemed really good, and the drink was on the lighter side in terms of sweetness and the pistachio flavoring brought a nutty flavor to the drink. Service was quick, and the person taking my order was helpful. I was given a cup that was bent/slanted at the bottom, leading it to cause a small issue - keeping it straight in my car as I drove home. Otherwise, it was a decently good experience, and I would consider coming here again. Since it's in San Pedro Square market if you choose to stay and enjoy the drink there, there are seating options. read more
Two lines - can order at the kiosk or through a cashier. We all shared a gelato with a choice of 2 flavors - matcha pistachio and Hokkaido milk. The menu makes it look like pistachio chunks as a topping (+$1) but they're tiny specks that add a mildly nutty flavor. Hokkaido milk isn't particularly strong compared to what we've had in Japan... Overall texture of the gelato is creamy and soft. Maybe slightly grainy if I can recall. Yuzu matcha cheese tart pretty much tastes just like a lemon cheesecake. It's good. Pastry tart is soft and buttery rather than flaky or crispy. read more

Love the matcha and hojicha drinks here. The seasonal drinks are also delicious as well. The cheese tarts are also delicious. Located in San Pedro Square. There's street parking or the parking garage. read more

Pros: Hokkaido whole milk- yum! Matcha tastes great. Cons: matcha lattes could have a better ratio (too much milk), can't customize the ice amount. I've been here twice now, both times around noon. The wait wasn't too bad. First visit: ordered with the cashier (right side), they didn't ask me sweetness level... not very helpful Second visit: ordered on the kiosk (left side), found out you can adjust sweetness level, size, and milk type. Overall, worth checking out. Will try other drinks. The best thing they have which sets them apart from most matcha spots is the Hokkaido whole milk. read more
Maruwu matcha is solid, the location sits interestingly inside San Pedro market and offers a nice social environment to enjoy your matcha. The matcha itself tastes good, it's not overbearingly sweet, but can be a bit cheeky as it needs to be mixed to get full enjoyment as lots of flavor sits at the bottom. The service is good and they are quick even on a late evening before close. Would definitely come back when in the area. read more
I've been meaning to try this place but I never made it out to the Palo Alto location. Luckily they have one in San Jose which is more convenient! The store is tucked away in San Pedro square but on the opposite side of the main building. Parking is easy with nearby parking structures. There's a ton of seating inside as well. The service itself was okay... the two people at the front were doing something on one of the computers. One of the people looked at me they looked down at the computer. As I was using a tablet to order, a customer tried to use the tablet next to me but the two workers at the computer said "woah woah no no. He will take your order." It just wasn't very clear and no one was communicating to us. Idk maybe it's my fault but I'll know better next time. Strawberry matcha: 5/5, I loved how strong the matcha flavor was. The strawberries gave the matcha just a hint of sweetness but it wasn't over powering. One of my favorite matcha drinks hands down. read more

This place has yummy ceremonial grade matcha, soft serve and a variety of pie desserts. Everything is so good, you won't be disappointed. I was only a bit bummed they didn't have the yuzu tart. read more
OMG... the Yuzu Matcha Fizz... soooo good... I've had the matcha latte here many times at the San Francisco Japantown location. It's always decent and creamy, but this time I tried their seasonal summer yuzu menu options! SO DELICIOUS! Refreshing and high quality. We came here around 12:30 pm and there was no line. One of THE perfect matcha flavor soft serve I've had in a while! So happy there's a place in San Jose now. I tried their San Francisco location and it was good, but San Jose is much better! Consistency is nicely smooth, not grainy, no bitter aftertaste. Flavor is so on point. Maiko isn't great anymore and super grainy and bitter. Plus the hassle of going into a mall for soft serve is more than going to San Pedro Square lol. It's a small little shop in the San Pedro Square food court right at one of the doors. I was there on a Sunday afternoon but beat the line just by a bit and got my soft serve super quick. The line does get crazy, but service is quick. There's a line for self ordering with a kiosk and one with a staff. My friends who are huge matcha fans think the same. One has tried the gelato, and one tried the latte with the soft serve on top, and all loved it! Bottom line: a MUST try! read more
It was my first time trying Maruwu Seicha & as a matcha tea lover, I had to try it. I went on a weekday afternoon & there were very few people in line & in San Pedro Square. The staff didn't seem too helpful & there's no sample for the gelato. Boooo. Some of the highlights: Drinks: - Strawberry Matcha Latte with Matcha Snow Top; It was good, but somehow it wasn't cold enough, even with ice. For $11, I was expecting more. I would pass on this. - Matcha Latte with Snow Top; Solid, just not cold enough even with ice. Gelato: - Matcha Pistachio Gelato; It was very pistachio-forward. It was great, but you can't taste the matcha. It definitely gives Dubai Pistachio. - Matcha Gelato No. 3.; Great matcha taste & had earthy & not too bitter notes. Lovely! I was hoping the Matcha Pistachio would have more of the earthy notes from the Matcha Gelato No. 3. The combination of the two would be chef's kiss! Cheese Tarts: They were all not too sweet :) - Hokkaido Cheese Tart was dense & tasted like cheesecake. - Uji Matcha Cheese Tart; Not as much matcha flavor as I expected, but it's very creamy. - Fresh Taro Cheese Tart; By far my favorite, creamy & had a nice taro taste. - Yuzu Matcha Cheese Tart; Yuzu forward taste, but you can barely taste the matcha. It took me a little while to find the place--it's actually located inside the San Pedro Square Market, near the food court area. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and while there was a line, it moved fairly quickly and wasn't too bad. We even got to enjoy the live band outside in the courtyard while we waited. I went with the lychee matcha and was pleasantly surprised to find that they offered a milk-free option. I often find that matcha drinks made with oat milk or other dairy alternatives can feel a bit too heavy, and I was really in the mood for something lighter. This drink hit the mark perfectly--it was crisp, refreshing, and had a great balance between the earthy flavor of matcha and the gentle sweetness of lychee. My partner got the strawberry matcha, but after trying mine, he admitted he liked my drink more! read more
Overall rating: 3.7/5 We got to try Maruwu Seicha in Japantown SF last year however our experience was quite underwhelming. When we saw that Maruwu Seicha was opening in San Pedro Square Market, we made sure to stop by once it opened to give it another try! They're finally open for their soft opening so here we are! Due to the soft opening, their menu items are limited which is totally fine since we just want the matcha latte. We ordered the matcha latte with oatmilk without any other adjustments. The matcha flavor is stronger this time and it's very creamy and smooth. However, the menu doesn't state that oatmilk is an extra charge. Also, when ordering we weren't told that we'd be charged extra for the oatmilk. It's common for oatmilk to have extra charge and some places don't even charge extra at all. We don't mind the extra charge whatsoever, however it should definitely be stated on the menu or mentioned when ordering so people are aware of how much they're going to pay. I noticed this as well at the Palo Alto location. There also isn't a price listed for their medium and large sizes on their menu. We didn't know about the two sizes since there is only one price stated for the matcha latte. Overall, the matcha latte is okay. I would recommend other local small businesses for matcha such as Last Chapter Cafe! read more
