It took over an hour to ORDER our food. The food itself tasted like your grandmas house smells ... the wait staff was rude and the building dirty. You're better off eating the gum on the underside of the table. If I could give it less than 1 star I would. If the scoring factor was based on vomit faces I would give all 5s. read more

I'm shocked to be writing this since what can you expect from a wing outpost near Topsail Beach between Jacksonville and Wilmington, North Carolina, but 'Em-R Wings offered the best chicken wings I've ever had. Each drum was full of flavorful chicken, and the sauce added to that flavor rather than replaced it. The hot potatoes appetizer was just OK. I initially went into the restaurant to place a takeout order of wings and a burger. I placed my order without issue and thought maybe I'd sit at the bar as I had time to kill while the food was prepared. I sat at the bar and watched no less than 5 employees walk past me for over 20 minutes without asking me if I needed a drink or anything. I cannot recommend going to this Restaurant if you're trying to get any kind of customer service. These people don't have a sense of urgency in their bones. You can literally sit at a bar and watch the employees ignore you. Amazing. From what I've learned this evening....if you want customer service, go across the street and have a meal at Ricks. I have lived here almost 8 years and have only been here about 2 or 3 times. I try to visit local establishments because they are supposed to have great customer service. The servers have always been courteous and the food was okay. The actual restaurant is small and in an older building. The inside looks dark and dingy and could use a refresh to this millennium. We went there around 7:30ish on a Friday because a friend wanted to go. When we got there, there was a small group already outside waiting. We went in to let the host or hostess know we had a rather large party of 9 coming, there was no one in the front to tell or give our name. We were waiting in the front area and were soon told by a gentlemen that we could not wait inside and we had to wait outside. I understand that they don't want people waiting at the front door but he basically told us to go outside without even attempting to write our names down or ask our party size...he was kind of an ass. As a local business that relies on customers, this place lost two parties that night because after he kicked us outside, we left and so did the party that was already waiting outside. Since we are local to the area, we shared some restaurants that do provide good food and better customer service...Fat Burgers. They really need to work on their customer service and figure out how to greet customers and what to do with them as they wait. The party that was waiting outside before we got there told us that they wouldn't even serve them drinks because they didn't have a server...even though there is one really small table outside. Even when you get crappy service but try to give them your hard earned money, they still couldn't figure it out. Save your time and money and go to Rick's, Fat Burgers, or Daddy Macs...it shouldn't be this hard to give a crappy restaurant my money. I would have given them two stars during my last visit, but seeing as this is my 2nd visit this week and things only became worse, I had to demote them to one star. We're visiting friends in the Ferry, and came to eat here on Friday night. First, the food is terribly over priced for the meal you received. In a party of 4, all with different plates on the menu, no one went home happy. I, personally, didn't even make it home full with the minuscule shrimp served with a half pound label. That dish was given to me after waiting more than 10 minutes for a beverage, twice, and dealing with an apathetic waitress. None of the staff are around, they're all hiding, presumably, in the kitchen. Today, I ordered the Surf and Turf. It was a 20$ meal that was bland and the steak was 4oz of fat wrapped in the disguise of an 8oz steak. The mushroom caps were bland and wet, and the potato wedges were stuff and undercooked. I gave this place a second chance thinking it could have just been a bad night for the staff and cook. Sadly, I was wrong. Definitely not recommended, and we won't be returning on our next visit to NC. read more

Requested second order came out light but so much oil could not pick them up should have kept the oil and changed the oil in my truck. My favorite place to eat when I come to North Topsail Beach. My server, Jean, always remembers my order and keeps my sweet iced tea glass full. Chili cheese fries w jalapeños & wings (I can't decide which is my fav sauce) or the hamburger steak w gravy & grilled onions are two of the best selections. Beer special every night. Monday is Icehouse bottles for $1.50. I chose BL draft, which is the Tuesday special. Wings come with celery and ranch of bleu cheese. I always have a bad experience from this place. Every time I order the staff is rude and they make you fill bad for trying to order food the way you want to order your food. They answer the phone really rude and it is an even worse experience inside the store. The wings are good but everything else is bad. The wait was long, and the first words out of the servers mouth was "Yall gonna have to give me a minute." Not exactly a polite way to start the ordering drinks process. Waited 30 minutes to receive our order and I got the wrong wings as well as the server looked at our drinks that were empty and breathed deeply in frustration about this. Dear awful establishment, my family and I came to your restaurant and weren't served our beverages until 25 min after we arrived .. we didn't receive our appetizers ( ever) and half our parties meal was beyond late .. even after the manager came out we still received our food severely later than the other people in the place . Wings here were great. We got the spicy bbq and the medium. The medium was a nice clean, but not quite dry that was really good. The spicy BBQ was amazing, very flavorful with a nice little kick on the finish. The presentation was excellent for wings, since normally it's just wings thrown into a cardboard boat. The nice thing is that the wings are a good sized. We got a set of 25 which for two of us, is normally pretty easy to knock down, but these we had to take some home. The wings were definitely a refreshing break from the sort of generic BWW type wings that you can get pretty much on every street corner nowadays. Slow service for sure and their short handed on the waitresses, but if you can tough it out they've got the BEST wings anywhere and I've ate them at a lot of places. Extremely slow service, in slow, I mean so slow that half of our order came out in Togo boxes because they had closed two hours after we placed the order.
