Many (many) years ago Emack and Bolio's had a location on Houston Street and I was introduced to their excellent ice cream. That shop was fairly small and I had fond memories of it until it closed. I did not keep up with the chain so I had no idea they were still around in NYC! Recently while randomly walking along Second Avenue I saw the store's sign and stopped dead in my tracks. At first, I honestly thought I read it wrong and that this was going to actually be a Deli or something, but nope, this was legit the ice cream I hadn't had in years! I headed inside and was struck by how much bigger this location was than the one I remembered. There was a small seating area to the right and near that the menu. Next to the menu was the cashier station and then to the left were some *bonkers* ice cream cones with cereals coating the edges including Frosted Flakes and Fruity Pebbles! For my first Emack and Bolio's experience in (at least) 7 years. I ordered what I consider the shop's "classic" flavor: the Grasshopper Pie. Their site describes it as a "Crème de Menthe with choc chips and Orieos". The description is accurate. The ice cream has a wonderful mint flavor with nice chocolate chips that melt nicely in your mouth along with the ice cream. None of the flavors overwhelm the other. They all work together beautifully. The ice cream's texture is also nice and smooth, just as I had remembered it. I was really happy I found this location and look forward to coming back! read more

One of the larger Emack and Bolio's locations I have been to. Since their UES location closed I had not had their ice cream in a while. While walking by I had to get a scoop as it's always a good time for ice cream! This one is located in midtown on 2nd Ave. As usual, they have an assortment of terrific flavors. I'm a sucker for cookie dough so I had a cone of the Cookie Monster (vanilla ice cream, oreos, and cookie dough. Yum. Same great quality as I remembered. I was a happy camper as I walked down the street with my ice cream cone. Also, for a location this large there is just a small section with some seating. read more

Emack & Bolio's has really good ice cream... flavorful, creamy, and not overly sweet, which I really appreciate. It's definitely a nice dessert spot if you're in the area. The only downside was that I found a long hair in my scoop midway through eating. It was disappointing, but honestly the ice cream was so good I still finished it after removing it. I would just strongly recommend the staff wear hair nets for cleanliness. read more

E & B steps away from the traditional ice cream flavors and provides a more unique flavor profile. Felt like I could choose any flavor and be satisfied. Fun options for the kiddos too. Emack and Bolio's is one of my favorite ice cream shops. I definitely prefer it over many others. I love the coffee flavor and anything with Peanut Butter. The scoop is huge but sometimes I still enjoy two flavors in one cup. It's getting warm in the afternoon and after a long walk it feels good to have a cold ice cream scoop. In 1975 E&B was founded in Boston as a sort of underground ice cream speakeasy where musicians could hang out after the bars closed at midnight. Aerosmith, Boston, The Cars, U2, James Brown, and Al Green were some of the patrons. And where did that name "Emack and Bolio's" come from? The origin story gets even better when I read it was named after two homeless guys from the neighborhood! So here we are around 50 years later and you will find six E&B's in NY, five in MA, two in Florida, two in Illinois, one in Pennsylvania, and eighteen across Korea, Thailand and China. It was pretty hard deciding which flavor of their super premium ice creams to try, but I finally put my nickel down on a small cup ($6.25) of "Triple Deelit" - a mega chocolate dish with chocolate chips and brownie bits in a deep chocolate ice cream. It was simply amazing. If you ever have the good fortune to be near an E&B, I urge you to give them a try, I really loved their super smooth, super flavorful ice cream. read more

Ordered two scoops of ice cream in a cup. The prices on the price board clearly indicate that two scoops is more economical than one scoop. Also ordered other items so while bill seemed high, I did not look at the details until I got home. Turns out that if you order two scoops, and one is one of the special flavors of the day which cost more than the regular flavors, they charge you the full price for each scoop. My two scoop cup of ice cream cost $13.50 ($6.55 & $6.95). A RIP OFF EVEN FOR NYC! The proof is in the pudding, or in this case frozen dessert. This place can get really busy, even during the winter time for delicious, decadent ice cream, frozen yogurt, vegan or sorbet. Servers are usually warm and friendly but often rotate (which is fine, less of a chance for them to find out my fro yo and sorbet obsession). Pricey but worth it for high quality product. Very solid little ice cream shop! I have been here multiple times and have left very satisfied after each time. The most recent time, I got one scoop of the Blueberry Crumble and one scoop of the Cookie Monster ice cream (they have numerous other unique flavors as well). Each of their flavors is creamy and tasty. The prices are also reasonable, as my two scoops cost me $8. The shop itself is a bit small, but there were only a couple others in line on a Saturday night. The lady at the counter was friendly and the service speed was quick. Overall, I wouldn't say there was anything extraordinary enough to garner 5 stars, but Emack & Bolio's certainly deserves a solid 4 stars. A favorite, a classic! What else can be said about arguably one if the top 10 ice cream spots in NYC. On a long walk the other day, soaking up this long awaited Fall crisp weather, I was delighted to come across this location. I have been to the one on the UES many times and love their ice cream and cones especially. The young woman at the counter was sweet enough to add a dollop of pumpkin because I had a hard time deciding between that and the bananas foster which I ultimately got on a rice crispy cone. They had so many different flavors, it was impossible to walk off without trying one. I got the Beantown buzz and I must say, I haven't had a better coffee ice cream than this. It was such a fun flavor with choc covered espresso beans and cookie swirls. My hubby got the Vanilla ice cream with chocolate covered honeycomb which all vanilla lovers would like. This is a new addition to the Midtown East neighborhood. I love ice cream and stopped in to try them despite the cold weather! As a brand new store, it is spotlessly clean. The creative ice cream cones (including cereal-covered ones) are fun and looked great. There was only one employee there when we stopped in, but he was friendly and welcoming. The ice cream itself was not quite as good as we were hoping. My husband and I both tried two different flavors as takeout, but we were disappointed compared to other independent ice cream options in the city. The flavor was okay, but texture of the ice cream was a bit stiff and odd. The dipped waffle cones were so much fun and I loved how many different ones they had! The price was a bit steep ($20ish for two single scoops in waffle cones), so this will be more of an occasional treat than a regular place for me. I remember visiting their location in Brooklyn a few years back. Their ice cream is good, nothing special. I thought the same thing when I was in Brooklyn as well, that their ice cream was decent. Maybe it's because I didn't get one of their specialty flavors, I got the original oriole and I didn't see anything else that I thought I was worth trying. The cones are spectacular they have rice crispy treat cones and Nutella cones and lots and lots of chocolate cakes but their ice cream is decent I prefer frozen yogurt now anyways read more

I mean common just look at the pictures online (the ice cream and speciality cones look mouthwatering) Luckily for me the taste was on point as well and fit the bill.
