We love Ember - casual place with great pizza (yes has some char, but it's supposed to and I love it that way) and wings. We usually order our pizza with jalepeno, pizza, and pineapple- so good! What a disappointment. Went for dinner at 5 on a Thursday. We were sat right away. Only 4 tables had patrons. After 15 minutes I went back to the hostess to ask if we were seated in the wrong area since we didn't have a waitress yet nor were we acknowledged by anyone. She said she would get our waitress. Who did arrive a few minutes after. After we ordered a few other tables had been seated and their orders taken by other waitresses. (One with her long hair down) that is not acceptable anywhere food is served. The tables seated after us seemed to get their pizza before our salads even came. The couple seated next to us asked if we ordered already. We said yes before they sat down! They got salads and pizza. We got salads and pizza. If our pizzas were the same I would of thought they got our order but they did not. Our server never acknowledged the slow service and before we left another patron asked if he had a server...guess what. It was the server we had. read more

I hate to use this platform to do this, but I'm really at my wits end. I've been calling the restaurant repeatedly to resolve this issue, but every time they simply take a message and no one ever calls back. On 9/3 I went to dinner at Ember with 3 friends; when the check arrived, my 3 friends paid cash (roughly $80) and I paid using my CC (just under $20). On the credit card receipt I indicated that we'd leave the tip in cash (another $20) on the table. When I checked my CC statement, I saw that the waitress had ran my card for the full amount of the bill, likely pocketing the cash. Thank goodness I kept my copy of the receipt, which shows that I only signed for $18, not $95. I've contacted my CC company, but I'm just really disappointed that no one from the restaurant will return my calls. read more

We went there on Friday night knowing it was going to be busy, which is fine...we knew we'd have to wait. When we went to give our name at the podium there were 3 very young girls with looks of "deer caught in headlights". I asked how long the wait was for 2 and was told 1 1/2 hours. Seriously???!!!! Even Boston restaurants I've frequently visit don't have that long of a wait. Fine, we put our name in waiting to see if it would truly be that long. ((This should be interesting)) Well,,,,,now I can see why. So when you check in. You're given NO transponder that lights up to say hey come on down you're table's ready....or...even a way to give your phone # to text you when your table's ready. Which by the way, 99% of good restaurants do. I'm sorry but for a place this busy, etc. you SHOULD have 1 or the other. But lo & behold we saw exactly why the wait was quoted as such. These poor hostesses had the awesome job of walking around the entire patio area, calling a name & party #. "Smith, party of 2.............Smith, party of 2".....over & over & over again. Hey, here's a thought.....if you had a transponder OR the person's # to text these poor girls wouldn't have to be walking around like zombies in the hopes that someone was still waiting all this time to say Hey That's Me and get people seated that much quicker!!!!! While we were waiting we witnessed 5 separate tables in the inside dining area sitting empty for 10, 15, then 30 minutes.....with NO ONE sitting at any of them!!! By then after seeing these tables sit vacant for so long my boyfriend was ready to blow a gasket and went to ask the hostesses (3 I believe) why there were all these empty tables sitting around with no one in them. And 1 of their responses was "Well the next party in line has 10 people" so we have to wait to get to the next 2 or 4 person party, because we go in order by name put in. WHATTTTT? For the love of pete...............this isn't rocket science people.....In the hostesses head she should be thinking "I have a table open for 2.....hey there's the Smith party and they have 2. Now they're not next in line, but they meet the small criteria of what I'm looking for: # of people. I'll seat them". Butttttt, nope that would make sense. Instead they waited for the next space to open up to fit together multiple tables to seat 10 and the rest of the list is waiting & waiting...........& waiting. While waiting with the rest of the cattle out on the patio near the fire pit.....We saw the ambiance of what seemed to be a day after an all night kegger: empty plastic cups on the benches, ground, etc. Not one employee is walking around cleaning things up at all. Finally the actual customers were cleaning up to make room to sit. ((Another point being deducted in my head as we're waiting)). Inside the dining room is so loud you'd think you're at a rock concert. The tables are so close I felt like I was on a double date with the couple next to us. The poor waitress did her best and was great. Not sure how she could even hear what we ordered to be honest. The pizza finally did come out and was really good. But, really good pizza alone is not going to get me in the door to your place again no matter how cool & fun it looks when driving by. See most people like me pay for ALL AROUND good dining experiences. Like: a check in system that actually uses current technology, a wait that is less than an 8 hour work day for most of us, etc. Which apparently isn't something this place cares too much about. Which is VERY apparent by the multitude of bad reviews on various sites I've now seen. Funny its pretty repetitious and seems to be an ongoing trend for sometime. But hey who am I to judge? The entire experience (which felt like an episode of MTV's Punk'd...I was actually waiting for Ashton Kutcher to pop out somewhere).......Not once did we see a Manager/Owner, etc walking around to see how things are, ask customers how everything is, etc. Now if this was my restaurant, by job of a manager or the actual owner, I'd be completely embarrassed by this. Just think of how much better the experience could be for everyone--quicker turnover of tables, how much more $ is rolling in your doors because you actually know what it means to run a business. This place has great potential but not with the current Management/Owner or lack there of. Driving down the road to get to Ember, you pass tons of restaurants that have been closed & boarded up, with tumble weeds rolling around......yours could be next. read more

The decor inside was upscale and everything seemed new. It seemed busy, but the service was OK. The booth we sat at was a little too narrow for comfort. The pizza we ordered had a paper thin crust and was burnt to a crisp. There were hardly any toppings on it and it was not very tasty. This place is way overpriced and seems like a tourist trap. Nothing annoys me more than managers and in this case actual owners refuse to deal with guest complaints. Doesnt matter that the atmosphere was trendy, the food quite good, and for the majority of the experience the service was courteous and accommodating. When the server offers you dessert and you alert her to the fact that you havnt rec'vd your entree, and then you wait 20 to 30 minutes and still dont recieve your meal and everyone else is finished and it is before 6 pm.....AND THE MEAL IS LASAGNA WHICH I ASSUME IS NOT MADE TO ORDER..then any positive perceptions about your dining experience have been obliterated. When I finally called Meagan over, she offered the lasagna to go. I responded that we would be happy to take my Dad's dinner home, but did not expect to have to pay for it. 10 minutes later she brought the check back with the dinner removed, I asked to see manager...she said he just left..I asked for his card..he didnt have one...in fact she did not even know the brothers of Ember and Port restaurants last names. We are residents of Harwichport for 40 years and have seen quite a few concepts go belly up in this location. With this kind of customer service I am sure Ember wont have any longevity either. Oh and did I mention that I have been in the hotel and restaurant business for 30 years and started my career right here in Harwichport back in the 70s at Thompson's Clam Bar? We stumbled upon this place because of the crowds of locals outside. This is hands down one of the BEST pizza places we have ever eaten at. We ordered blueberry goat cheese pizza (since we usually try the most unusual thing on a menu). You have to have this!!!! Its amazing! Its not really a dessert pizza as it is kind of savory with blueberry, goat cheese & prosciutto. YUM We also had the bruchetta & caprasie salad. The service was excellent & the waitress, hostesses & even the manager were all very welcoming & friendly. We had such a great experience that we went back 3 times in a row. From my point of view the food was fine. And the the other eight people in my party felt the same. My chief complaint was how the seating was handled. As a part of nine we called ahead to make a reservation. We were told we would be seated inside in the dining room. We arrived approximately twenty minutes early and could see a large long table vacant outside by the fire. When we were brought to our table it was set for eight and clearly could not comfortably accommodate eight let alone nine which is what the reservation was made for. We approached the hostess about the table outside. She told us that table was for a party of twelve and attempted to bring us to a round table that was no bigger than the table inside. After much back and forth they agreed to let us have the long table which was comprised of three small tables. When they came to set the table they began to remove one of the tables! We explained AGAIN there was not enough room for nine adults to be comfortable around the two small tables. More conversation ensued and they finally brought a wooden table to add to the two small tables. When a member of our party went inside to use the restroom she approached the hostess and said that we were not trying to be difficult we just wanted to be comfortable . She was told how much we had inconvenienced them and that people had been waiting for hours for tables and if they had known they would have bumped our reservation back (?) The entire time we were there the round table next to us sat empty along with other tables outside and tables in the dining room.... Very poor seating management. However our waitress was fine... Sadly my take is these were young inexperienced individuals making poor decisions which led to a poor experience. If I could give this establishment a negative rating, I would. On Friday, August 12, 2016 I purchased a $100 gift card to be given to the family who were bringing my children on vacation to Chatham 2 days later as a sign of appreciation. Imagine my horror when my daughter called me from the restaurant last night, August 15, 2016 to say the waitress ran the gift card and it had a zero balance!!! I was completely mortified!!! I told my daughter to go find the manager and put him on the phone. He listened apathetically to my concern and first said maybe the family used the card on a different night and was trying to use it again!!! I couldn't believe my ears!!! As much as I hate to threaten I told him he'd better resolve the issue and take $100 off their bill or I would be driving there myself and to expect to see me in less than an hour. He told me to hold on and finally came back to my daughter's phone more than 10 minutes later. Mind you, I was holding the gift card activation receipt in my hand and gave him every transaction number I could find on the thing! His response was he had no way of tracking the gift card! Are you kidding me? He finally agreed to take the $100 off their bill but offered NO apology nor compensation. I am completely disgusted by his behavior. Owner of Ember, if you are reading this, my suggestion would be to fire the so called manager. He is not doing your business any good. We ordered pizza to go as we have driven by several times and was curious to try it. The atmosphere looks awesome with outside fire-pits. As my husband returned with the pizzas we were immediately disappointed with the burnt appearance of the pizza. We realize it is a brick oven pizza but the crust was charred black including much of the bottom. One of our pizzas had caramelized onions and you could not get the normal sweet, salty taste of the onions because the burnt flavor overpowered it. We have no reason to hurry back and wished it turned out better. I did call the manager(Scott) to offer my feedback who did say he would gladly make me another one, but I didn't want to be more inconvenienced with the drive back and forth with a young child at home. He didn't seem like he knew what else to say. I guess he could of offered a reimbursement to my charge card. Oh well! Onto another pizza establishment next time! read more

Zero stars. This is my first time posting on a public forum, and it has taken me over a week to decide to do this. Due to the fact that my family and I cannot get the truly horrific dining experience out of our minds, I feel inclined to speak for each of us in an effort to warn other potential customers, diners and especially tourists with no knowledge of the area, of the incredibly rude manager, Scott, who not only yelled at our server in front of our party, she did nothing wrong, it was a kitchen mess up, but also did nothing to rectify the mistake. In fact, he shrugged his shoulders and said "um, what do you want me to do about it?" He was incredibly rude to my wife and daughter. I was disgusted. I have never in my life heard a manager of a restaurant or a man in general speak to a woman the way Scott spoke to my wife and daughter, and our poor server. It was despicable. If that's not bad enough the food is WAY over priced and inedible, almost $4 for a soda and no free refills? Really? The incompetent front of the house staff told us we would have to wait for our reservation, 30+ minutes later we were sat at a table that did not accomidate our party, and every excuse we were given fell short, because if the restaurant were to be run correctly, by a competent manager, excuses wouldn't be needed. Our server was fantastic and tried to make the best of the horrible situation she was put in by her hostess and her manager. We live in this area and have dined here before, they've been going down hill for a few years now, and this time they really hit rock bottom. We will never be back. Whether or not you will like Ember, depends on your preferred type of pizza and sandwiches. Unfortunately for me, nothing I ate was particularly delicious or the type of food I would come back for. But I rate it three stars for friendly staff, nice ambience for a pizza place and lot of food for the money. It's not that the food is bad, either. For example, I ordered a chicken Parmesan sandwich with fries and Cole slaw. The quantity of food was twice what I wanted to eat late at night and sadly for me, the Cole Slaw came in a little container the size of a ketchup cup. There were enough fries for three of us to share and the the sandwich grossed me out. The roll was fairly large and was covered in melted cheese which obscured the fried chicken with some tomato sauce on it. In spite of all the cheese, etc., the sandwich was completely tasteless to me. I tasted cheese, but the chicken had too much breading on it and little spicy tomato flavoring. I thought it was going to be an open-faced sandwich but it was a large glob of cheese-covered bun. Others at my table ordered Hawaiian and a chicken-Gouda pizza with caramelized onions that weren't caramelized enough. For me the pizza was flat tasting with a decent thin crust. Not exactly anything I was expecting. Lastly, I'm not particularly fussy, but I'm used to simple food made properly with lots of taste. People who like decent portions of hunger-satisfying food may like this place a lot. Just not for me. read more

After some initial hesitation due to some marginal reviews when this place first opened, we have become frequent diners at Ember in Harwich Port. Without exception, we have had outstanding food and service. Their oven fired thin crust pizza is etheral. The lemon-pepper bone in chicken wings are scrumptious. Very good caesar salad. The only disappointment was their Peach Salad, featuring arugula, peanuts, goat cheese, and grilled peaches with a honey soy vinaigrette. We've even tried it at different times of the year, hoping to find it improved, but have consistently found it to be below par. Too bad, since it sounds SO good! Otherwise, everything that we have tried on the menu is exceptionally good. Their Hawaiian Pizza is fantastic, with large tasty chunks of grilled pineapple, and small thin slivers of ham throughout under the bubbling cheese. It's a masterpiece. Another surprise stand-out is the Andouille and Apple pizza! Prepare for a real andouille kick that will leave your taste buds singing (or howling), cooled by the granny smith apples and a mix of flavorful cheeses! Service has always been great. The noise level is unfortunately an issue on busy nights in season, so we usually try to arrive early before the crowds arrive. On a nice summer evening, the outdoor patio dining is the perfect antidote to the noise indoors. Bravo, Ember---we're glad you are here! read more

While I love the concept, and the style, the service is just ok and I don't care for the burnt crust on the pizza (which apparently is their signature?) Maybe it was my fault for bringing a 15 month old, but we went around 5:15 on a Saturday night and thought it would be ok. We were promptly seated. Our waitress was probably new as she didn't have much personality, nor did she look comfortable. They don't serve bread, so we had to order the breadsticks. I also wanted a meatball for him (knowing they would be big), but was told that you can't order one, you must have 3? OK. I was prepared to pay full price anyway, but ok, I'll take 3. The problem is that those 2 were both appetizer orders, and clearly for my 15 month old, but for some reason they didn't come until dinner arrived. (so instead my son filled up on gold fish while he waited patiently). Pizza was just ok, and kind of cool. The crust was so thin, that it was soggy & floppy. With all the food arriving at once, we didn't end up finishing our bottle of wine. We knew our 15 month old wasn't going to sit while we finished a 1/2 bottle of wine, and we also didn't want to disrupt everyone else's nice dinner, so we asked for the wine to go (which is the LAW in MA, to allow you to bring home an unfinished bottle in a one time sealed bag). A manager came over & coldly said the owner doesn't allow that. (despite being reminded that it was the law). SOO - we literally chugged the rest of the wine, and let our 15 mo old be as loud as he wanted at that point. They didn't leave us much choice, short of leaving a very good (pricey) bottle left unfinished. Our final memory of that restaurant was hurried and unpleasant. read more

We want to love this place so we keep coming back, on and off season. We decided tonight we just can't keep trying as the same problems exist every time. The pizza is ok, usually comes out wet and slimy, but the taste is pretty good. The service however, is always lacking. You'll wait for your table (not sure how they organize seating for a table of 3 but you watch everyone that came in behind you with larger groups sit first. A little frustrating!). Then you'll wait for someone to greet you at the table who always apologizes for having to wait. Finally, you'll wait a really long time for your food. Don't count on refills as no one checks in. Each time we've gone, we've complained about the wait for food and am almost told about how busy it is and how the kitchen is backed up. I understand how crazy the summers are, but I also have been to amazing Cape restaurants with the same amount of customers who know how to treat their customers right. read more

Used to like this place when it first open but this time it was a very disappointing experience for our entire party! The one and only good thing was a wedge salad I ordered to start. But my bolognese pasta which was recommended to me was a bowl of almost indescribable mess!!!! Could not even see the pasta which was buried under a brown looking sauce, I had asked for a dolup of ricotta on top and came as almost a cup over the plate, it was sent back immediately. My husbands Buffalo Chicken pizza was alarmingly burnt and looked like it was a pita bread crust? Not pizza like at all? When he bit into it, it broke apart and was brittle. Tasteless and very unappetizing. Our friend who happily ordered his favorite dish, chicken parmigiana said it was so tough he could barley cut through it, his broccoli the was just steamed and had zero flavor? I ended up with a small side of pasta and a side of broccoli, again bland and very little sauce on the pasta. We asked to speak to the manager who listened to our list of complaints and said I appreciate any feed back I get and I will talk to the kitchen. We asked if it was under a new owner and if the cook's were all new, he said no same staff? When the waiter brought us our check, the bolognese I sent back was still on it???? When we asked him to fix it he did make the proper adjustment but at that point, something should have been taken off the check. The manager made a point of coming back and thanking us for our input and said he spoke to the kitchen and it did not fall on "deaf ears". And said I look forward to you all coming back, for REAL???? I give up!!!! Won't be back to this place ever unless they can do a complete about face. Shame on the Port Restaurant for not putting their best foot forward here, not a lot of choices in the winter time, they should have stellar service, food and managers!!! read more

My husband and I arrived at 6:50 and was told it was an hour wait. At 8:00, 8:20 it became obvious that they were not going to seat us- we were only 2 people and all the two top tables were used for 10 people party. There were 3 open 4 top tables for 15 minutes.Their policy as told by the snotty hostess with blonde hair was that"two people cant sit there" It was the management policy. So I asked her where do two people sit? There was only one table for twos For that question i got a stare. She had no answer except I offered you a table outside ( it had just poured and was 60 degrees). I said i already waited over an hour for an indoor seat.... The manager was no better He claimed it is the owners policy not to sit two people at four tops. So 4 tables of 4 that came in half an hour after us sat before us. The managers solution was I'll check on the ten top and see if they are almost done THAT WAS AN HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES LATER. If they are over booked, or people didn't get up or the kitchen was delayed I could understand, but a policy not to sit two people in case 3-4 people came in is horrendous. We had people leaving finished with dinner look at us and say Are you still here??? UNPROFESSIONAL, SNOTTY HOSTESS (BLONDE NOT BRUNETTE) DISCRIMINATORY MANAGEMENT POLICY GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

This place was bad, maybe it was an off night, it looked like there was some sort of rehearsal dinner that may have taken most of the attention for the night, but it was still terrible. My fiance and I both ordered small pizzas, which took about 40 minutes to arrive at our table. Mine was room temperature and was soggier than a wet piece of paper. It had clearly been sitting out for a while before it was served to us. After we sent it back and said we no longer wanted it, the manager came to our table, and while he did apologize, tried to explain away the room temperature and sogginess of my pizza because I had ordered too many toppings. I'm not an idiot, it wasn't the center of my pizza that was cold, it was the whole thing. According to their menu, their brick oven gets up to 1000 degrees. Even if it had been sitting out for 5 minutes it still would've at least been hot. And I'm pretty sure the excess toppings didn't cause the crust to soak through and become the consistency of overcooked spaghetti. We wont be going back. read more

Leaving this place, I can't decide who I'm angrier at - myself for making the mistake of turning up here again after avoiding it for three years, or the ineffectual, twenty-something "cooks" who are more intent on the sporting events on the tv than the actual cooking. It's easy to get tricked into giving this place another shot, when it's late and all the good restaurants are packed, and this place still has parking out front. And sometimes you just want to sit in a booth. But nothing has improved with the food; in fact, I don't think the menu has even changed. And nothing has been done to improve the acoustics, so it is predictably and excessively loud. We ordered a scallop and bacon pizza on which the "cook" actually forgot the sauce. The dry crust was staring up at us between pieces of bacon. We sent it back, and the waiter promptly returned with the same pizza assuring us that yes, the sauce really was on there. The "cooks" refused to repair it, and as an afterthought (ok, after we sent it back again), sent out a bowl of cold, white slop that was unidentifiable, but presumably supposed to be "sauce". The whole experience was vile and amateurish. I've never seen a chef less interested in making a guest happy, but oh that's right, these aren't chefs. My companion made the accurate but unfortunate observation that there wasn't an adult in sight running the restaurant. Maybe the manager was busy watching tv with all the other staff. That might explain the lack of pride in the food quality and disinterest in the satisfaction of the guests. Ember is the equivalent of a pretentious fast food restaurant where no culinary skills are required nor demonstrated - the ability to drop the list of ingredients on top of the crust will suffice (and apparently even that is too challenging at times). And to think that pizza is the signature dish here. One may consider pizza an economical meal, but there is no point in spending even short money on food this poor. Ember is fortunate to be situated in a resort town, where guests come and go, and can't effectively vote with their feet. There is always someone new to fool. But those of us who call this home know where a good meal can be had at a good price by a chef/owner who takes pride in his/her offering. This isn't that place. read more

Today was my second visit to Ember. Our first visit was fine (had a reservation, arrived on time, but seated us 30 min after the reservation time. When finally seated, food was good enough, but service was SUPER slow). Our second visit was terrible. This restaurant has no sense of customer service and makes no effort at all. Today, we arrived around 8PM, were told it would be a 20 min wait, and were directed to wait on the patio. At 8:25 my husband checked in with the hostess to get an estimate of how much longer the wait would be and was told 10 more minutes. At 8:45 my husband checked in again and was told they had given our table away because they couldn't find us and it would be another 25 min wait. We were sitting in the same spot on the patio (as we were told to do) the WHOLE time. Did I mention that the whole hour we were waiting there were four open two tops and multiple open larger tables! At this point, we gave up. Before leaving, my husband approached the manager, explained the situation, and the manager's response was "OK" and walked away. read more

I love the food and in the winter time this place is my favorite, but when summer comes it sucks. Is too loud, there's no parking, the wait is always outrageously long (and the hostesses say 20 minutes and 85 minutes later I'm seated), everything takes too long, even take out takes too long. Recently I was told 15 minutes for takeout and when I arrived half of it was ready and handed to me, while I sat and waited over an HOUR for the rest of my food, which when finally ready, my food given prior was ice cold. Needless to say I was disappointed. It's seems very understaffed. After waiting too long for a table of 2, I walked into the dining room to find 8 empty tables!! And the outdoor seating was empty too!! One time I sat outside and my pants ripped from the broken chairs. I've witnessed a couple wait 20 minutes for a take out box, after they had paid. It is simply ran poorly, even though the food is to die for. I continue to come back despite my anger towards this restaurant in hopes that I will be pleased, but each time continue to be irritated. I leave with a headache and fatigue after waiting 2 hours for food. Please figure it out. I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed. And angry. I'm SO angry. read more

I was in the mood for an "easy" night out...salad/pizza/cocktail. Ember had been suggested, I was told of the outside fire pit and thought that would add to the charm, I checked yelp and decided to give it a go....NEVER AGAIN. Upon entering, the mood was loud and chaotic. I usually don't mind eating at a bar but this one help zero appeal so we gave our name to the host, grabbed our drinks at the bar (no cocktail waitress on the patio) and walked outside to claim our seat at the fire pit. We were told 20 minutes and I'd say yes, we were called to our table within that timeframe. We were escorted to the dining room and in about 5 seconds I knew "no way'. The dining room reminded me of a cafeteria...it was so LOUD with each table trying to out talk the next. We asked the host if we could wait for a table to become available outside and lucky us, we were seated right away. The waitress was very pleasant, but disorganized making several trips back and forth to the same table before she attended to her others. Let's cut to the chase.....food was awful. We ordered chicken wings (the sweet and spicy sauce was good but the meat was bone dry), I saw a fig and prosciutto pizza on the website but it wasn't available on their menu so I switched gears to a bacon and pineapple. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. My boyfriend ordered the pulled pork sandwich w/ onion rings. The sandwich was mediocre at best and the onion rings -- he bit into it and it burst open with a bunch of water. He spit it out. We suspect they were kept frozen far too long. He left them on his plate. The waitress never asked us if we wanted a drink refill and while she brought us our check never offered me a "to go" bag for 1/2 the pizza remaining on my plate. The ambience was dreadful -- inside was too bright, the hallway was crowded the it was loud. The patio had about 6 tables (I think they might have minimized the # of tables outside given it was the Cape and now after Labor Day). The patio chairs were bamboo and looked like something from a garage sale and didn't match the black metal patio tables with the blue Corona umbrellas.
