    Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza

As a parent you eat a lot of mediocre pizza. Good pizza is always nice, an opportunity to share with friends or family, have a beer. Excellent pizza, you actually enjoy it for its own sake, and it's a nice combination of flavors. This place, though, now I get it. Easily the best pizza I've ever had. I put in an order on their webpage in the morning. 7:43 pickup time. Huh, that's precise. Okay. I show up at 7:35, it's this little storefront with no seats and little signage, but can tell I'm in the right place from the amazing aroma. I wander around the street for a bit, check out the taco place next door. 7:41, come back. Guy greets me, asks my name, says "oh, you're 7:43. Almost ready." 7:43 on the dot he takes it out of the oven, puts it in a box, and hands it over. I take it home and devour. The crust is light, thin, bendable, with a nice chewiness and a delicious flavor on its own. The sauce a little spicy, not too thick, just to flavor the pizza. A sprinkle of cheese. I got pepperoni and mushroom to go with a classic, and can actually taste the mushrooms. Cremini, I think? Half of it is gone before I think to take a picture. Phenomenal. Definitely going back.

This is the best NY style Pizza in Berkeley and perhaps the entire Bay Area. As someone from the East Coast it's incredibly hard to find a good slice, but this place nails it each and every time. It's takeout so no ambiance, service is quick and easy. He has a system, it works, the food is excellent quality. Everyone should try this place even if it's just once. You just need to decide in the morning that you want pizza for dinner and order online since that's the system.

After learning about the mental illness ordering process, I knew I had to sign myself up. I woke up at 7 AM, got ready for the day, then logged into the dial-up, Neopetz-esque website at 8:54 AM for 8:55 AM ordering. Once I knew what to get and readied my cart, I then had to wait until 9:01 AM to enter a RANDOMIZED QUEUE into another waiting list at 9:08:51 AM to select a time slot. For most people, they'll go "WTF!!" but for me, each queue lead me to get giddy and say "Here we go!" I was able to snag a 6:09 PM pick-up, and hilariously, the owner pulled the pizza exactly at 6:09 PM from the oven. The man knows how to budget his time to a T. I have no notes for Emilia's Pizzeria other than it's excellent. The owner Keith, who I briefly interacted with, seems like a nice and passionate guy just slinging out pizzas. I have to pull a comparison card and say that other acclaimed pizzerias like Rose's and June's all possess a certain "wow" factor that makes them unique. Rose's has things like a romantic ambiance, the Caesar, and flavorful white pies, while June's has the best marg in town and shredded cheese beds on their pizzas - a true stoner's dream. Much like the owner, Keith, Emilia's Pizzeria is humble. It's probably the best NY style pizza in the Bay. It doesn't possess that ostentatious flair, but just from pure taste and fresh ingredients it has that something special. I got the fully loaded pizza of Sopressata, Sausage, Pepperoni, and Extra Cheese, which Keith labels "The Forbidden" since it's extremely difficult to get all those toppings onto the pizza. While being the King Arthur Supreme flavor of Emilia's, I still found it humble. I didn't feel myself heavy after eating half of this bicycle wheel of a pizza. I felt full, happy, and hearty. And that's the magic of Emilia's - the heart of it all.

Well. I had heard all of the hype and after watching Netflix's Chef's Table: Pizza for the last few days I was craving some pizza so decided to pull the trigger. The ordering process is... odd. It seems like a form from 1999 and not in a cool way. I understand not wanting to pay for Toast or whatever other systems are out there these days but this was just plain bad. Saying that, I physically watched the pizza cook remove the pizza from the oven and box it so it was fresh exactly at my scheduled pickup time which was great. The pizza. I immediately noticed upon picking up my box how light the pizza felt. This is an 18" pie. I imagined it would feel slightly heavy. Upon further investigation I understood why. There was a minimalist aspect to the toppings. A thin layer of sauce, sparse amounts of cheese and a few pepperonis scattered around the pie. The crust was phenomenal, a crispy undercarriage and chewy center that is best enjoyed hot. Although I did wonder how much the sparse toppings attributed to the pizza not having any flop. All in all it wasn't a BAD pizza, but I wouldn't say it was a GREAT pizza either. For $36 I was expecting a little more. I'll probably be sticking with Pollara or Rose the next time I have a hankering for pizza.

Their pizza was very solid, but not outstanding in any manner. The service was prompt given the strict pickup rules, and overall I have no complaints here.

Great pizza, archaic system, pizza came out of the oven exactly at pickup time (gotta love NY efficiency) - so overall not too inconvenient and worth the try! -Gina Calabrese was yummy. Nice thin crust and tasty toppings. Personally I would've preferred more sauce and spiciness -I used the callback option - I filled out the form at 8:55am, waited until 9:01am for it to refresh, and there were many time options. Callback came between 3:30-4pm -Best of all was that the pizza came out of the oven right at my pickup time. So don't come too early or too late :) -Don't forget it is cash only -Only minus one star to be honest with myself - it was a good pizza but not a pizza I'd crave to go back to I recommend you try it!

    Standard pie

I ordered the standard pie. This pie definitely has fresh ingredients, like fresh, but very simple tomato sauce. For my taste, this pizza is nothing amazing, very forgettable. It just lacked so much flavor, mostly because of the fresh mozzarella, I didn't know that the mozzarella would be fresh mozzarella as opposed to regular "dry". It's pretty cool how light and airy it is, but it is entirely lacking that proper crisp. Also, $30 ain't cheap.

Calabrian (the oil smear on my plate is olive oil I added to dip the crust in, not pizza oil)

Amidst the East Bay's (surprisingly) standout pizza scene (Rose, Pizzaiolo, Lucia, Cheeseboard) Emilia's stands out. Evoking New York's finest, the pizza is low frills (with limited toppings) and makes its impression through the quality of its ingredients. The dough and the sauce particularly stand out. The former is chewy - like a Neapolitan - but with more resistance. There is enough of a underbelly char that the pizza has a slight crisp, yet it's not brittle or hard like a cracker. The sauce is tangy and fresh, I wish I knew which tomatoes they use! There is the perfect amount of cheese: you taste it's presence, yet the takeout box dodged the typical oil stains. My buddy and I felt limber and light after splitting this pizza! (That's not to say we weren't satiated, but just not utterly defeated). We got the Calabrian hot sauce, which was fantastic and simple. I do wish there was more basil, but that's just a personal preference, not a sine qua non. I would recommend this place highly!

For one it brings back so many good memories, Blondie's always makes me happy. The second reason is they now have 100% BEEF PEPERONI! You heard me, 100% BEEF PEPPERONI! For some people that's not a big deal. For someone who hasn't eaten pork their whole life & always has to avoid getting pepperoni on their pizza, its a HUGE freaking deal. I love, love, love when the rare occasion happens that I get to enjoy BEEF PEPPERONI on my pizza. OK besides that, the pizza is amazing. I was literally closing my eyes and in my happy place the whole time. Now for those that never had BEEF PEPPERONI, please go try it. It is so much higher quality than pork pepperoni, so I've been told. I plan to make many more trips in the near future, thats how excited it made me. By the way I loved the cheese just as much, yum yummy. Pro tip: parking is hard, obviously, downtown Berkeley and all. So either walk, Uber, find parking, take the bus, or do as I do and tag team it and drop off a friend to go order for the whole car and drive around until they are ready to be picked up. Do what you have to, just get there. Now go enjoy yourself, you can thank me later.

We were greeted by the friendliest server (a tall guy with curly hair whose name I unfortunately didn't get but shout-out to him) who asked us if we had any questions about the menu. My friend and I had already glanced at the menu when we checked in with the host, so we pretty much knew what we wanted. I did ask our server about crust options though and ended up going with the New York style because I didn't have the stomach capacity for the slightly thicker options like Detroit but perhaps next time with a bigger group! We ordered The Standard, which seemed like a good choice because of the diverse, balanced toppings, and the chicories & beets salad. The salad arrived quickly, and the pizza was brought to our table soon after. I liked how refreshing and crisp the salad was, but the pizza was really what I wanted. It was everything I wanted in a pizza - definitely the best choice of the lineup imo. The crust was so soft and pillowy I couldn't resist devouring it all and leaving no trace. I'm very much a crust gal. Glad the plan to hit up Rose Pizzeria didn't work out so that we could discover this gem. With the various styles of pizza options available, there's sure to be something from the menu for everyone here!

We tried a Sicilian style pizza that was super delicious - the crust was thick and fluffy and aromatic, with a perfectly light crunchy bite - no soggy bottoms here, folks! It almost doesn't matter which flavor, but we had the Ray J which was a delightful blend of sweet and savory. In contrast, we also tried a seasonal vegan pizza prepared in the thinner-than-Sicilian Grandma style - this was also delicious and the crust was satisfyingly crunchy. We appreciated the quality ingredients and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The arancini balls were pretty good but the stars were the pizzas. Service was efficient, helpful, and friendly - Laura herself was on hand to make recommendations and answer all our questions. The space had a nice vibe and was clean and comfortable. Parking wasn't too bad - found a spot two blocks away. Will return to try more pizzas, as well as a pasta dish. If you're ever in the area, I do recommend that you check it out. This pizzeria has been around for 3 years and we want it to stick around for a long long time.

The biggest issue was that the food no longer seemed to have the same level of care and quality. The spicy Caesar, which I had enjoyed in the past, was surprisingly flavorless. The mushroom pizza was decent, but it was overly charred and lacked the balance and attention to detail that once made it stand out. It wasn't bad--it just wasn't exceptional, especially for the price. What made the experience more frustrating is that the prices haven't reflected this decline in quality. Even my spritz felt skimpy, with the glass mostly filled with ice. The service didn't help. To be fair, the staff have never been particularly warm or attentive, even during the years when I loved the food, so that wasn't new. The difference is that when the food was outstanding, it was easy to overlook the indifferent service. Now that the quality seems to have slipped, it stands out much more. Nine months ago, I would have enthusiastically given this place five stars. Now it feels like corners are being cut while the pricing remains the same. I hope this was an off night, but based on this visit, it's no longer the restaurant I used to rave about and will no longer recommend.
