We ordered an assortment and everything was so good. Reggaeton wheat empanada - very delicious! First time eating rice and beans inside of an empanada. This was tasty! Shredded beef wheat empanada- tender, flavorful beef. Very good! Shredded chicken - this one was loaded with juicy and well seasoned shredded chicken. I really liked this one. Brasil - more of a traditional style beef empanada. I loved the olives and potato in this one. Cheesesteak - very, very good! Steak strips were tender. I really enjoyed the onions and peppers in this one. Romeo & Juliet - I love guava anything and everything! I've had plenty of guava empanada but never have I had one with mozzarella cheese. This was excellent! Cheese corn empanada - one of the best empanadas we ordered! I wish we would have ordered a few others with the corn flour. Great food and service! Awesome ambiance and the best empanadas I've ever had! After a long flight over from SF, we dropped our bags off at our hotel and came straight over for some empanadas. First impression as we walked in on a Wednesday afternoon was this place was super busy and lively. Everyone there looked like they were having a great time! We opted to sit at the bar instead of waiting for a table, especially since you can also order food and eat at the bar. They had so many filling options from savory to sweet and it was hard not to order everything! We ended up going with the Shredded Beef, Buffalo Chicken, Cuban, and Romeo & Juliet. They were all so delicious and very filling. I'd say my favorite savory option was the Cuban, but the Romeo & Juliet was the perfect pairing of sweet and savory. I dropped by on a lunch break and saw they have a lunch happy hour- 2 empanadas with rice and beans for only $12! I also had a half-off margarita because it's only right. What a steal?! Since it's open 24/7, I've traditionally only come at night after a long night haha. My waiter Uno was super fast, friendly and helpful. Empanada Mama surprised us with tasty empanadas that were absolutely stuffed to the hilt with amazing fillings. We tried a different empanada shop around the corner before coming here and we actually thought there was no way EM could match those empanadas but SURPRISE -- they actually exceeded them. We began by matching our previous order -- one shredded chicken and one shredded beef -- to go. We were blown away by how much meat they were able to stuff inside these things. They were delicious AND filling! And then we were off to the theatre with a plan to return for dessert. After the show we returned and sat down and ordered three more: Nutella and bananas, Belgian chocolate and bananas, and cinnamon-apple. Each was about $4.50. My favorite would be either the Nutella or cinnamon-apple. All were excellent. We also went for a Passionfruit-milk smoothie ($6.50) which was good. Finally, knowing my wife would hate me eternally if I didn't bring her something to-go, I picked up four more: chicken, beef, cheeseburger, and the Viagra (shrimp/pollock). Of those, cheeseburger was the clear winner -- literally an amazing juicy cheeseburger stuffed into a fried crispy shell. Service was good. Crowd was super friendly. And they keep a security guard stationed out front after 10pm or so. Best of all, they're open 24 hours! So glad we discovered Empanada Mama! read more

They survived a pandemic, a fire, reduced their menu, but are still a great 24/7 spot to grab a bite. They opened their to go windows during the lock down, promoted a sense of fun and joy late night safely in open air and to go drinks, and serve consistently delicious food. My fave is still their wheat empanadas, cause I can be basic sometimes- but that being said what's awesome about them is they make different regional empanadas, not just one ubiquitous ingredient (wheat, corn, baked, gluten free) so the variety is nice. My go to is their oxtail soup with yellow rice. Hearty, fulfilling, enough where I tried to deconstruct and reconstruct a version of my own. They've kept me well fed for a very long time. read more

Seems like everyone and their mama comes here for empanadas, and for good reason. The establishment has a lot of seating to accommodate groups and it's very decorative. I enjoyed sitting around listening to the music and enjoying the natural light that they let in: overall the vibe inside is great. The shredded chicken certainly had a great flavor to it. Well seasoned, slightly textured, and warm to the bite. It held up nicely against the strong crust of the corn exterior. I felt that the peas not only contributed to the color of the inside, but they also dropped an extra subtle taste to the flavor of the chicken. This empanada is pretty simple, but it's absolutely great. The viagra empanada caught my eye with its title and it caught my tongue with the flavors. I absolutely loved the mix of shrimp and crab on the inside: the texture of the large portions of shrimp along with the softness of the crab gave me such a satisfying bite. The flavors were also very enjoyable. It wasn't too deep into the ocean: there was some interesting seasoning here that made for an excellent filling. The rice and beans is where this establishment reaches its downfall. The ingredients themselves are decent, especially the Spanish rice, but the black beans were not too flavorful. Additionally, the ratio of rice to beans was pretty off: I found myself running out of rice really quickly and the abundant sauce from the beans overpowered the rice in general. Overall, the recipes here hold up genuinely traditional flavors and there's some creativity to look out for. I recommend this place especially for their selection of empanadas. read more

Anytime I go to NY, empanadas are an absolute must. I am glad my hotel was near here but I didn't wanna drive out or commute all the way to Jackson heights to get some Colombian empanadas lol. Ok granted, these empanadas were double the price ($2 vs $4-$5) but I needed to satisfy my empanada fix lol. The Cuban was and always is my favorite and we also got some other ones to try that were more Caribbean style. The oxtail was hella tender but tasted more like Chinese BBQ pork, the spicy chicken was like Buffalo chicken wings in an empanada, and the jerk chicken resembled a regular jerk chicken meal. Lots of things went wrong to ruin my experience but the food was fairly tasty after an extended period of downtime, so I can't justify only a single star. Four of us went in and we ended up ordering 2-3 empanadas each as an evening snack as we had a lighter dinner earlier. There was a mix-up between dine-in and to-go, which is fine, but this led to a long 40 minute wait. Three of us ended up getting yellow receipts on our bags which we believe to designate take-out while the last member of our group got a white receipt. Just the color of the receipt wouldn't be a big deal, but the one member who got the white receipt on his bag only ordered two empanadas and they took 40 minutes whereas the rest of ours took around 15-20 minutes. This meant the three of us waited 20 more minutes in addition to walking back home which cooled our empanadas and they weren't as fresh. Despite that, the empanadas were still tasty, but they would've been much better hotter and fresher. I personally had a Mac & Cheese Empanada and a Ground Beef Empanada Baked. I ended my order with a Strawberry Shake with Milk Base. Mac & Cheese Empanada - pretty solid if you like mac & cheese, there's also bacon! Creamy, cheesy, and meshed well, it's just having extra carbs with the mac pasta part. Ground Beef Empanada Baked - also a really tasty empanada, reminded me of a hard shell taco with ground beef so I was happy. The baked aspect was amazing as the entire empanada was slightly harder and the crust was a perfect flakiness so I heavily recommend the baked options! Strawberry Shake (milk base) - I don't know what this was but it was not a milkshake. It was like a pseudo smoothie with added sweetener or added ice cream. I preferred the ham and cheese, because it felt like there were more flavors. Both were good and really hit the spot. Service was friendly and efficient. I ordered about $33 worth of food. I entered in my address but messed up one digit. When I called the restaurant they said it had been delivered but that the delivery person failed to confirm the person's identity on drop off. The manager refused to issue a refund or redeliver the food. I went to the address (1 block over) and asked the person if they had the food my food. They answered through a remote intercom and I could clearly hear street traffic in the background. They said they have been out of the apartment and that no one accept a delivery. I called Empanada Mama's back and explained that the food was never delivered. I again asked for a refund. The manager lied that only ChowNow could process the refund. The manager had no explanation for what happened to the food and again lied that they would "look into it." They never did. I contacted ChowNow and they interceded on my behalf. The manager then lied to the ChowNow rep and said he would not issue a refund. ChowNow explained that only the restaurant can offer refunds. The bag was spill free. My order is correct and everything was warm. The arepa again had cheese stuck on the foil. I think wax paper or parchment paper would be a better choice. It was good though. The viagra empanada was good too but the crab is imitation. The shrimp was cooked well. Great flavors. The jerk n' cheese was good too. Not spicy at all. Chicken was cooked perfect though. Great empanadas! Came here for a late dinner on a Friday night with a friend. There were plenty of groups seated but also a few open spots available, so we got seated right away. We started off with the Yucca Frita which were pretty good. I liked the avocado sauce it came with. For empanadas we shared the Viagra and Shredded Beef which were both pretty good.
