This was our first time dining at The Union, and it definitely won't be our last. We had reservations and were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and very helpful in guiding us through the menu. We started with the margarita pizza and the baked oysters special--both were fantastic. For our entrées, we ordered the surf and turf sushi roll special and the roasted chicken, and again, everything exceeded expectations. From the walk-in the hostess greeted us warmly. The space is bright and airy. They did a great job with the update and renovations from the old space. After a great start, the Union may have jumped the shark. Not happy to write this review but after two visits over the last few months that both missed the mark, it's time. Other reviews are correct - they don't have pacing down. They want to turn the table over and you really feel it. If you don't want to feel rushed book a weekend table at 8pm or after, otherwise you bet your bootie they have that table committed right behind you. Appetizers arrive before drinks, entrees arrive before you've finished your appetizer. Not a very luxurious feel to the experience. Last visit the biggest flaw was that I ordered a filet, which they serve with a peppercorn sauce and some onion rings. The sauce and rings were good. What was completely inexcusable was that they attempted to substitute the filet with a Picanha steak, which is a cheaper and tougher cut. Absolute BS. If you order the Picanha (cheaper) it's prepared differently, which means they clearly substituted the beef in my dish because it was made with the filet's sauce and onion rings accompaniment. Just note, since it's become quite popular it can get loud in here during dinner. Not a negative per se if you like an energetic dining room, but it's no longer a place to grab an intimate date night meal anymore. read more

This is probably our favorite restaurant at the moment. We always want to go here to celebrate, because its a little more upscale and pricey than your average restaurant. Ambiance is beautiful; I love the unique green walls and floor tile pattern. I love that they have firepits, even an outdoor couch/patio area, and two rooms/ "scenes" for dining. I also love that their menu is so varied- we originally found this place because we were thrilled that our daughter could order mac+cheese for the 10000th time, while we order something we don't usually get in her presence (SUSHI!). The sushi is like gold there, so tasty and also beautiful presentation, and love seeing them making it fresh by the bar. I love that their mac is skillet m+c. I've tried ordering other dishes like pizzas etc but the sushi is definitely my favorite. I always love getting an espresso martini here (or 2!). My first visit to The Union - after patronizing its stodgy predecessor "The Carltun" in the same location for years - went very well. We celebrated a birthday dinner on a frigid December night. Our server Despina greeted us warmly and even sang to the birthday "boy." Excellent friendly service throughout the meal. Complementary bread came with a nicely spiced olive oil dip, a perfect way to soak up our excellent cocktails. My "Lush Pear" was a nice mix of fresh fruit puree and vodka, served straight up in a coupe glass. Really excellent taste and quite potent as well. Tequila based "Gigi" was a perfect mix of tart and sweet. Partner's 24 ounce ribeye was tender, flavorful and perfectly cooked, in fact he said it was better than many he's enjoyed at famous steak places. Whipped potato and creamed spinach sides were delicious. My lamb chops were a bit overcooked, and the olive spinach side was very salty. Still a good dish but I'd probably go with something else next time. "Nightcap" dessert was decadent, comprised of ice cream, chocolate mousse and fresh whipped cream. The dessert would have been plenty for four diners, but that didn't stop the two of us from devouring it by ourselves :) The only snag was the crowded noisy bar area adjacent to the dining room. Perhaps the energetic noise level was due to festive groups enjoying the holiday season. No matter; all in all a great experience and I look forward to future visit(s). read more

A beautiful place and service was great. The ambience is perfect for the holiday season. Made reservations by calling them. We ordered a bunch of apps, drinks, and entrees. Tried the beef carpaccio (yum), petite raw tower (fan for the mother), duck taco (would pass), burger (heard it was good), picanha, lamb (yum if you like a fatty peice) and skirt steak (delicious). We also called to make sure we had chicken tenders and fries for the kid. The chicken was 3 tiny peices. Of the drinks, I loved the pear one martini one. It was delicious. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake, toffee pudding, and the midnight espresso martini. Dessert was a big disappointment. It was eh and the drinks was the worst. Meals are great the two times we visited. It's a hidden gem nestled in the public golf course and Eisenhower county park. While there is no strict dress code, probably because of its location, the ambiance is classy (so you can dress up for ladies night out if you wish) and the service is top notched. The price is quite reasonable for the food and services. Plenty of parking in large golf/Eisenhower parking lots. When the weather is good, you can walk around before or after your meal. We enjoyed the spicy spaghetti and lobster pappardelle more than the pork chop this time. Definitely will be back again! read more

Came here with my coworker to catch up, and it turned out to be a pretty great spot for it. We sat outside since the weather was perfect -- sunny, breezy, and just too nice to pass up. We didn't realize the place was actually tucked away in the park, but after a little wandering, we found it right by the golf course. Definitely worth noting if it's your first time visiting -- it's a bit hidden, but once you're there, the setting is really peaceful. They do have a happy hour, but just a heads-up: it's bar seating only, and by the time we arrived, the bar was already full. Still, we had no complaints -- the food and drinks were both solid. There were a lot of tempting options on the menu, so I'm already planning to come back and try more. It's a great little spot for a chill afternoon or low-key evening -- just maybe get there a bit earlier if you want to snag those happy hour deals. read more

Such a beautiful and elegant spot--the exterior is so picturesque, I wish it hadn't been raining so we could've taken photos by the floral displays. We started with the Caesar salad and burrata. The Caesar was excellent with huge, crispy croutons. Unfortunately, the burrata was spoiled--it caused a tingling sensation and tasted sour. The waitress was kind and had it removed from the bill. For mains, we both had the skirt steak with chimichurri and broccolini. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The Lush Pear cocktail was a hit--refreshing and delicious. I ended up having four! For dessert, we shared the Nightcap and carrot cake in a mason jar. The cake in the Nightcap was a bit bitter, but the chocolate mousse, vanilla gelato, and whipped cream balanced it beautifully. The carrot cake was incredibly moist, flavorful, and just perfect. While I might not return due to the bad burrata experience, I still recommend trying this place for the ambiance, cocktails, and desserts. read more

Usually I'm skeptical when every 'food influencer' is raving about a new and trendy spot, but this place was awesome. It's in Eisenhower park, parking is ample, but be forewarned-- I had a considerable walk from my car to the restaurant. The grounds are beautiful leading to the restaurant, and it shares its space with a members only club. For starters, we had meatballs (my friend ordered and enjoyed), slab bacon-amazing, and a strawberry feta salad. We each had a cocktail (I can't remember the name of mine), but they were all great! For an entree I had the breaded pork chop with artichoke which was very good, and my friends had the Picanhe steaks which were both great. We shared creamed spinach (yum!). For dessert, we split the key lime pie, crème brûlée, and tiramisu. All were great! Can't wait to come back! read more

I cannot say enough about the staff at The Union. Joanna and Justin were incredible. I arrived two hours ahead of our event to set up and they were so helpful. They offered a cart to help us bring items in, they offered hands to carry things in, and they offered to assist in any way they could. We set up a hot chocolate station and it required some help filling up an urn with hot water and keeping whipped cream cold. Tim among the staff was amazing and in no way seemed bothered by my questions and requests. Ed at the bar was very kind and a great smiling face to greet guests as they entered. Moe was helpful in pre-event communication and introduced himself at the event, too. We had 2 cakes and the staff handled cutting and serving them for our 50 guests. I attended an in-person training hosted by the Tito's Brand. We sat in a private room that was soo beautiful and ambient. The staff are attentive and friendly. The Espresso Martinis were perfect! The walkway leading up to the front door is well lit with beautiful vibrant landscaping. The Ladies Bathroom is soo clean and you feel like you're in a lavish hotel setting. The food was shared amongst 25 people. Chicken on skewer, salad, margherita pizza, potato's that looked like potato chips, sushi. I really wish I could give it more stars. Food was very good and tasty. Came here for mother's day and was very happy with this being our second option. I had the short rib grilled cheese and the steak fries with the bee sting for my drink exceptional!!!. My son had the steak fries and eggs with a mimosa and he said it was perfect. Our waitress was very nice and she made sure we were good. The only issue was the 15 minute wait after we came in but the service and the food made up for it. I would choose and recommend this place to anyone and everyone. And Nikolas was a pure gentleman he makes sure his guests have a good experience when dining there. A surprisingly lovely place! I'm not going to lie, as I was cautiously pulling up to the park parking lot and trying to figure out where the entrance was, I was wondering if The Union would be worth the hype. I came with my friends for a late Sunday brunch. The service hall was extremely tight, and while not the entire place was packed, I felt like I was in the middle of other people's conversations. I got the Pink Rose as my drink, and it was nice and fruity, served very beautifully. We had a couple of appetizers. Biscuits were nice and fluffy, and while my favorite will always be Red Lobster, they were good and not too doughy or too dry. The homemade preserve and butter were ok. The Korean BBQ wings were unexpected. They were not what I thought they would be, because these wings were doused in thick gochujang-based sauce and not doubled-fried crispy and crunchy with sweet sauce. As a Korean, I kinda approve? It was an interesting take, and a nice smoky flavor from gochujang that was not too salty or vinegary as I've seen the gochujang be abused in these New American recipes. The aioli was not needed. For entree, I got the Egg Sandwich after much mulling over the brunch menu. And what a great choice it was. The ciabatta was perfectly fluffy and flavorful. The eggs were soft scrambled and creamy. Bacon, gruyere, and chives complemented the egg with flavor and texture, and then the truffle butter came in and elevated the whole sandwich. It's been almost a month, and I can still taste this sandwich in my mind. And it's so silly because I still think $17 for some BEC and steak fries is too much, but in my heart of hearts I definitely would order this again. We shared a tiramisu for dessert. It was ok, nothing to write home about. The sushi options on the other table looked beautiful, so maybe I would order something off the sushi menu the next time I go. I hesitated writing this review but decided other diners should know what to expect before going to The Union. The following is based on having dined there Sat, March 21 in the evening. This is a FACTUAL ACCOUNT of our experience: 1. This is a BISTRO-LIKE restaurant with a menu ranging from pizza and sushi to steaks. This is NOT a luxury dining experience as portrayed on Yelp. 2. Most menu options CAN NOT be tailored to dietary constraints. According to the waiter who served us, most dishes are prepped early in the day. My friend, who must maintain low sodium levels, could NOT order a rib-eye steak since it had already been salted that morning. The same is true of appetizers, according to our waiter, and there was only one he could choose. 3. The noise level is QUITE LOUD although tables are spaced well apart. Shouting occurred frequently among diners at many tables in order to be heard. 4. BEWARE of going when a wedding is in progress at the catering facility next door. Our entrees took more than 70 minutes to arrive at the table. The waiter who served us said our order had been submitted AFTER the wedding entrees and therefore was delayed. Two of these entrees were unsatisfactory - the salmon was just larger than a deck of cards and badly overcooked; the veal chop was thin, no thicker than a normal chicken cutlet. But having waited so long, my friends were too hungry to return these entrees for fear of having to wait again. 5. There is a STRICT policy regarding payment by credit card which isn't posted on The Union's website. Each table is limited to the use of 3 cards with each holder splitting the entire bill evenly. According to the waiter who served us, further payment allocations had to be made within the group at each table, ie, via cash or Venmo. Since we didn't have enough cash to go around and two of us don't use Venmo, the waiter finally relented and accepted credit cards for just our portions of the check. 5. It was evident for all to see that the waiters and support staff work very hard to please clients. The attitudes displayed by members of the management team, however, failed to demonstrate the high standards one would normally expect from any nice restaurant: - I was criticized for requesting a change in table assignment. Our group of 9 was originally placed in a small room off the main dining area, next to a long table with 20+ diners celebrating a special occasion. I explained that a member of our group is blind, he relies on his hearing to enjoy a night out and I asked if we could be moved to a round table in the main dining room that was not being used. The maitre de said NO, THAT TABLE IS RESERVED FOR 10 AND WE ARE ONLY 9. I insisted and she said she'd ask. While waiting I realized a LARGE TV SCREEN was right above our table with a sports game being played. I followed her back to the front of the restaurant and uttered YOU HAVE TO MOVE US. She was visibly irritated and said ENOUGH, YOU'RE BEING MOVED. - When friends arrived, they asked to see the original table assignment since they knew we hadn't been able to get a round table reservation. The maitre de followed us into the smaller room and ordered me to leave, saying IT'S OVER, MOVE IT ALONG. YOU'RE NO LONGER SITTING HERE. - When we left, my friend who couldn't order what he wanted told the MANAGER how dissatisfied he was. The Manager said YOUR GROUP WAS A PROBLEM FROM THE MOMENT YOU ARRIVED AND DEMANDED ANOTHER TABLE. - Another friend told the MANAGER she dines at high end restaurants in Manhattan all the time and has never received such bad service. The Manager suggested she go back to those restaurants. - I should also note that the MANAGER authorized complimentary desserts, but only after we insisted on speaking to him about the lengthy delays in service. We were told repeatedly he was too busy to see us, but we wouldn't relent. His appearance and free dessert weren't enough to alter our views of the evening. WE'LL NEVER DINE AT THE UNION AGAIN. read more

Fantastic dinner for 4. Our table was a little small for what we ordered but we really enjoyed our meal. We started with the pull apart appetizer. It was larger than I imagined. The beef was soft and well seasoned with caramelized onions and a great dipping sauce which wasn't even needed. The Alaskan crab roll was delicious. A nice big size to share. We also tried the Japanese everything bagel on sticky rice...yum pieces of sashimi style slices on top. We also had a nice greek salad to start. For dinner one of us went with a juicy burger with a fried egg and fantastic sliced homemade fries. The skirt steak and chimichurri sauce was yum with broccolini. Five star experience with 4 star pricing. Great and quick service from seating to food. Not to mention the decor is contemporary classic. Walking up feels like an event but you don't need to be dressed up to eat there. The food is very tasty as are the drinks. Bee sting is the best option for non- gin lovers for cocktails. Every item we had was delicious. Burger is slept on but so good as are their unique fries. Went to The Union for a holiday dinner with my friends. It's hard to find it once in Eisenhower park but we followed the lit trees in order to find our way. Once inside, it's a beautiful restaurant with a nice bar. We went on a Wednesday night and it was definitely busy, but not packed. We ordered a bunch of plates to share and all were decent. I think my favorites were the pizza special which had Brie and prosciutto and the Mac and cheese. We also ordered the chicken parm with vodka sauce, the sushi, the gem salad and the chicken wings. Nothing stood out to me. I don't usually like sushi but the tiger roll we ordered was actually good and fresh. The drinks were OK considering the price of them... I've definitely had better cosmos. The rating of a 3 and not a 4 of this place for me was the service. Our waiter was honestly, not good. He took so long to come over and then after dropping our drinks, took 20 minutes at least to take our food order. We had to finally call him over to tell him we wanted to order our meals. He went to every table before coming back to us and he just could not multi-task. We were very surprised considering this is a very nice restaurant. We went here for a NYE dinner. The food and the service was decent but then we got the bill. We were a party of 4. Half of us had cash and the rest went on to a credit card. The manager couldn't understand how to handle paying half in cash and half on the credit card. She just wasn't getting it and gave us the biggest attitude for no reason. Listen sweetheart, if you can't understand how to handle the money part of this job, you should get a new one. Unfortunately we won't be going back to this place. We dined at The Union on January 21 with friends, and the experience was shockingly bad from start to finish. We ordered two Tito's and tonics with a lime. When the drinks arrived, neither my wife nor our friend could taste any vodka at all. We politely mentioned this to the waiter, who looked at us with complete bewilderment -- no apology, no explanation, no offer to remake the drinks. We then asked to speak with a manager. Instead of help, we were met by an inexperienced hostess at the reception desk who said she didn't know where the manager was. That alone says a lot. Eventually, we were given two additional shots of vodka, bringing the cost to over $30 per drink -- an outrageous price just to get a properly made cocktail. Later in the meal, we ordered two refills of decaf coffee. I specifically asked the waiter if it was decaf and was told yes. That night, my wife and her friend were up for half the night, clearly affected by caffeine. Serving regular coffee when decaf is requested is not a small mistake -- especially for older patrons. Because the manager never came to our table, I left my cell phone number requesting a follow-up. No one ever called. Poorly made drinks, incorrect service, lack of management presence, and zero follow-up. This restaurant clearly does not care about quality or customer experience. We will not be returning, and I would strongly caution others. read more

This is definitely a high end establishment on par with say a Capital Grill but a bit less stuffy of a vibe which was surprising seeing as how they have a private cigar club next door. We really enjoyed ourselves with a group of 6 and on a few occasions jokingly interacted with neighboring tables. I can't guarantee your experience with that will be the same, we are a pretty cool group . However the smoked old fashion's and tequila based cocktails were mixed to perfection. I dined on a Wednesday night had the restaurant wasn't that busy, from the moment we entered the staff was friendly and attentive. The general manager was great, very hands on, checked on us multiple times. If I'm being completely honest I would rate this spot a 4.5 because there were a few hiccups. For apps we had the meatballs which were huge and delicious, the west coast oysters were very large, a few of them were not good/spoiled. The dragon roll special was mediocre, not worth $46, and the bus boy spilled soy sauce all over my friend's leg and himself when he was clearing the table. For dinner we shared the skirt steak which was cooked perfectly, needed more chimichurri sauce, the branzino was prepared very nice as well. For dessert we had the crème brûlée which was really good, very rich and creamy. The tiramisu was disappointing, too much lady fingers, not enough cream. Cocktails were average, we tried the Pink Rose which was very light & refreshing, the Espresso martini was very strong, & the lychee martini (not on menu) was good but the lychee on the rim was rotten. Had drinks and dinner last night at The Union for the first time and everything was excellent. Great drink and appetizer menu at the bar and the bartender was great as well. Dinner was excellent and Peter, our server, was the best! Very knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive. Will definitely be going back! 5 stars for sure! read more

I came here last year for my birthday celebration and had an incredible time. This year, I decided to do the same and what difference a year makes. We came here to celebrate two birthdays and a retirement with a large party, and unfortunately, it turned into one of the worst dining experiences I've had. I had requested a round table in advance, but we were initially seated at a large square table. When I asked to move, the manager seemed annoyed and responded rudely. We were eventually moved, but it was an uncomfortable start. Our waitress was kind, but we were told most of the food had already been prepared earlier in the day. My husband, who has dietary restrictions, was limited to ordering only the salmon. We were also required to order appetizers and entrées at the same time because the kitchen was "backed up." Appetizers came out in about 30 minutes, which was fine. The entrées, however, took another 90 minutes. When I spoke to the manager about the delay, there was no apology just indifference. After waiting even longer, my husband asked to speak with the manager and was told he was "busy." When the food finally arrived, it was disappointing. The veal chop was thin and overcooked, the salmon was overcooked as well and after such a long wait, we didn't feel we could send them back. My friend spoke to the manager and we were given desserts as a courtesy, there was no acknowledgment of the birthdays that were noted in our reservation. What should have been a special celebration was completely mishandled. To top it off, at the end of the night when we spoke again to the manager he told us to "go elsewhere." We absolutely will. Furthermore, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Service, quality, and basic hospitality were all lacking. read more
