I just popped "Pizza" and "Berlin, CT" into Yelp's search bar and guess how many pizza joints jumped out at me? There were thirteen of them. One of them was Empire Pizza, just over the New Britain line. They have a very large diner-like menu with wraps, fried dinners, pasta, Italian entrees, burgers, club sandwiches, salads, wings, calzones, strombolis, specials, catering, and of course pizzas. Their New York Style pizza has 22 red-sauced and nine "white pizza" varieties. Some of their more interesting choices include moussaka, Fra Diavlo, clam casino, and chicken alfredo pizzas. We enjoyed our cheese pizza which was a pretty good rendition of classic NY pizza with a very thin crust and nice cheese and sauce toppings. Empire Pizza is very generous with their portions and the prices are reasonable. In this respect they stand apart from other pizzerias in Berlin, which charge more, but offer less. The food is good and they try to accommodate special requests. May God increase their fortune and family. read more

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE! The person on the phone was Incredibly rude and disrespectful. He wouldn't even let me finish a sentence without cutting me off saying" anything else?" I specified that I wanted extra sauce on the wings and sauce on the side as well. I asked for no mushrooms on the supreme pizza I ordered. I thought he had noted my requests despite feeling rushed off the phone and dismissed. When the food arrived the wings were the most dry and disgusting wings I ever had in my life . The pizza was disgusting, had mushrooms all over it and was cold as an ice cube . I called them to ask if they could rectify it and he gave me more attitude! Sunday Funday! Did not feel like cooking, decided on pizza, salad, grinders, fried clams and a hamburger club. The pepperoni pizza was loaded with pepperoni and plenty of cheese...decent crust, greasy as any all pepperoni pizza is...lol. The large garden salad was good sized and enough for 4 people to have a side salad which was perfect. The hamburger club was good...hamburger cooked but not overdone...fresh tomatoes and lettuce, decent amount of bacon. The roast beef grinder was good I was told. The fries were steak fries and they were cooked but soft...i like my wings and fries crispy but I hadnt asked so not their fault. The clam strips as you would expect were just frozen clam strips thrown in the fryer. No tarter sauce....ma heart!!Just as expected from a pizza place, they tasted pretty good...nothing to write home about. All in all the food was pretty good...a 3.5 for food but the staff was friendly and efficient on the phone, they got the order right, and it came in 40 mins. A record for my area. Empire pizza just made me one of the best pizzas! I ordered a medium White Chicken Pesto Pizza, minus tomato, due to an allergy, but added spinach. They hit the nail right on the head! I am so pleased to give them 5 stars and wish I had of ordered from here previously. The whole pizza is full of items so you get a great taste in every bite. I pulled into the lot and soon discovered a little hole-in-the wall with nary a single Italian within 500 feet. Since my options were nil, I bellied up to the window and ordered 2 slices of cheese pizza to go. Quick as a flash I was on my way back to the car where I opened up the box and discovered industrial crust overloaded with cheese. I order a small pizza with 2 items on it for delivery. According to there meue on there website a small cheese is $6.95 and each item is a $1.50 each. They charged me $17.30. Blizzard of 2017 - that unexpected March Nor'Easter where we got like a foot and a half of snow. Everywhere else closed because, ya know, it was snowing in New England. And his dyslexcellency Dannel Malloy declares a travel ban every time a snowman gives him a nasty look... But Empire was open. The sauce is delicious because it's not overly sweet, like it tends to be at a lot of pizza chains. The crust is not too thick, not too thin; the toppings were generous. I also had the grilled chicken salad, which was tasty. My fiancee had the Chicken Parmasan which he enjoyed, noting the chicken was tender. We finished off with 3 deserts..the chocolate cake, the chocolate mousse cake, and the cheesecake. All three were good. I was excited as Berlin finally got a second pizza place in town that delivered. I live on the second floor so I asked them to call me when they arrived so that I would know that they were here. I don't hear all that well, i guess its the years of loud music. Anyway my pizza never comes. After a while i call them and they tell me I never came to the door. The next day I ask my downstairs neighbor if she ever got a visit from the pizza guy. she asks "is that who it was?" She just got dropped off from a wedding and was in a drunken stupor sleep when a man starting banging on her doors and her windows yelling "you order pizza? you order pizza?" Not thinking clearly she actually called the police thinking that someone was going to break into her house. Sadly if these people actually followed directions and gave me a phone call I may be actually writing a review of their food. On a side note the next week i called them to make an order and was told that i was banned for not answering the door. When I said i asked you to call me when you got here, the man on the phone told me "it was not his problem." After some time looking at their whole menu and ordering they are good at almost everything they do. I had ate here years ago and stopped eating here because the pizza was mediocre and come to find out several years later nothing has changed. Last night My parents got a pizza from here and after they ate it they told me it was nothing special. I got a stuffed shells dinner and it was nothing to write home about, the shells were fine but the sauce was crap, the garlic bread was a grinder roll toasted with a garlic spread and the lettuce in the salad was iceberg, exactly what one would expect from a place like this. This was an eatery that I tried to like. The concept is good, although it is just another pizza restaurant, the promise of 'healthy' options drew me in (whole wheat Pizza dough, part skim mooch ended up actually being regular mozz (fine) and very dry dough. When trying it the second time around and offered to pay for extra sauce, thi was not only charged, but it seemed as thought there was actually LIGHT sauce. Not to mentioned the additional $1 charges for petty items, such as dipping sauces, even ketchup. Salads aren't worth it-water soaked iceburgs that could be wrung out with a towel. This 'nickel and diming' could be over looked if the service was anything close to professional, or 'good' for that matter. Rude, rushed people on the other end of the phone line doesn't exactly convey a friendly, happy to have your business attitude. Its quite unprofessional, and does not encourage trust in a business when you are quited a certain price, but charged significantly more, which happened to me, more than once unfortunately. There was also stickers left on the soggy produce, and I regret to say, a body hair in the salad! Yuck! When I called to inquire amout the additional charges, I was told by the self proclaimed "supervisor/owner" who wouldnt disclose his name (shady?)That he "didn't need to deal with this, or our business!!" And also cursed (F***ing!!") Professional? Far from it. The pizza is alright but the management is why this place deserves 0 stars. They took over an hour to deliver 1 pizza and gave us the wrong pizza upon arriving, which happens. But the problem was when we called the manager to tell him of the mix up he got angry and actually hung up the phone and upon calling back he actually began to yell at my female friend who was being very understanding of the whole situation. So careless with the food.i ordered 2 lasagnas a d they came squashed one on top of the other. I could eat the food because the lasagna had cane out the containers into the bag and the sauce wag on the breads. The salad smelled old and it was brown. This was a waste of $25.
