My carpet installation was on August 30, 2024 and I started my complaint to them on 8/31/24 because they installed the standard padding instead of the upgraded padding, which an Empire store manager approved the upgraded padding prior to installation. They also piecemealed the carpet in the master bedroom and have not come out to fix that problem. We have had our flooring for 1 year and it is coming apart everywhere. Literaly have cracks up to 2 inches apart in some places. I had to pay $150 for a guy to come inspect the floor. They proceeded to call me and tell me it will be $1600 to replace the bad flooring. I have used Empire Tody at least twice in the last 4 years.... and would have rated the company a 3 out of 5 star due to issues with their warranty. The first carpet installed by Empire was nearly perfect. The second install however had an issue where the carpet appeared to be two different variations of the same color separate at the seem. I filed a warranty claim with Empire the same day the installation was completed, but despite submitting picture and videos my claim was denied. The reason for my 5 star review is due to the 2nd sales rep that I worked with, Frank Batchkoff. I have worked with multiple sales reps from various companies, and most are nearly impossible to get into contact with once a job is completed Frank however was the complete opposite, not only did he check in once the job was completed but he also took an extra trip out to examine our concerns in person. We had a rep come out to give us quotes on some vinyl and carpet to be done at our condo. Keep in mind, We currently have bamboo hard wood flooring and some carpet on different levels of the condo. When Brent Blazquez-Jauregui the Empire rep came, the 1st concern of ours is that we didnt want to remove the bamboo flooring for resell value and just add the vinyl on top. Brent confirmed with my partner and her dad that it was perfectly fine. We proceed to go over materials and pricing. They initially quoted us almost $13K. I have people in this industry that I ran that number with and told me that's a ridiculous quote. Brent stated that Empire does price matching with licensed contractors. He asked me what our budget is and we told him about $7,500. Without much going back in forth, they dropped their quote to around $7,800. This was interesting because they dropped their price that significantly so quick without me even providing the price match quote. We tell Brent we still want to shop around as we were honest with him from the start and told him this is the 1st company we had reached out to. He kept stalling and wasting time doing absolutely nothing on his computer until I had to tell him we need to wrap this up and we would get back to him. We ended up finding a licensed contractor that price matched for $6,000. Sent in the quote and was told by an empire rep weeks later that they dont do price matching with licensed contractors. We were livid as we had waited weeks for their reply and that's what we were informed. We explained what was sold to us from Brent's visit was not matching what they were saying. Long story longer, after all that back and forth, Empire decides to give us a last price of $6,399. We took that price and set up an installation date with Brent when he returned to our house the 2nd time. As Brent and I were scheduling the appt, I wanted to confirm that they are not removing the bamboo flooring. He said no they have to remove the bamboo flooring per the contract. I said absolutely not. If that cant be worked out, then we are officially done working with this company. Brent says let me reach out to my "manager" sends an email and says we'll see what he/she says. Again, he continued to just sit there passing time until I had to tell him, well I need to get going so when you know let me know and we'll go from there. I don't hear back from him for days so I decide to call Empire myself. I spoke to a person by the name of Heather on 7/11 and asked her to confirm what's on my contract re the bamboo being removed. She confirms no it doesnt show in your contract that's its being removed. I hang up and email Brent about the reps confirmation and he says no it has to be removed my manger just sent me an email confirming. At this point I want nothing to do with this Sales Rep. I call back Empire and speak to another person a man by the name of Markell which by the way was the only good experience about dealing with this company. He tells me no it doesnt look like the bamboo is being removed and I tell him, what is going on and why am I getting mixed answers? He says wait a minute goes in a bit deeper in the contract and says yes actually it does say they need to remove it. At this point, I already gave my $1K deposit and ran my credit with them to finance with their co. Brent emails me and tells me if you dont want to proceed, then we can cancel. No sorry about the miscommunication, no how can we make this better for you, just a horrible sales guy. Im in Sales and that's NOT how you deal with clients. We went ahead and cancelled and got our money back after an almost 2mths back and forth nonsense. I was told by my a friend to not go with you empire that they also had a horrible experience but I wanted to give you them the benefit of the doubt. I paid a good amount of money to get one of my apartments carpeted. A very nice salesman came out and we picked out the one that we wanted and then today 3/27/23 they came out and put in the carpet. My tenant came to me telling me that the carpet they had laid was not the color that we picked. There were 3 of us and the sales man that clearly saw which one we picked. The pictures attached reveal the one we picked and the one they installed and both of these were colors in the samples. Empire today is trying to convince me that the color of the carpet is not always the exact color of the sample that you pick. WHAT???? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and I 100% advise against trusting them to do the right thing if you cannot be present because they will be crooked about it. I would be completely in my rights to stop payment on that check, but I am not going to do that. I had LVT installed a few months ago and purchased the Empire Service Plan with it. Well, I had an accident two weeks ago, submitted a claim right away and they still haven't come out to fix it. I was scheduled to have it fixed tomorrow, 9/28/2024, but just received a call stating they need to do an assessment first to see how much material was needed and if if the repair was covere. Then, they cancelled the repair appt. The issue is smaller than the size of a quarter and I gave them all requested pictures. Plus, this type of repair is covered according to their service plan. The person then said it could take another week to two weeks to hear back and then schedule the repair, if it's covered. In the end, they are quick to come out, give an estimate, take your money and get it installed. But when it's time to take care of a paid and installed customer, they drag their feet and provide very little to no customer service. read more

I purchased flooring in my house in the hallway, which took 11 hours for one man to do. OMG, and then my installer, try to charge me money for base borders that I already had paid for, but his were a little bit thicker than the ones I had purchased. So I called my sales rep and he said do not pay him any money. But the installer insisted that it was his personal items for sale. But I could tell he was lying and that it was unused products from the company that were left behind from another project. OMG. So I only gave him $40. His face looks as if he's seen five ghosts at one time. I guess he really thought I was going to pay him for the company products on the side. I don't think so.. Sales Reps are so nice but the warranty and cheap material and installers are no good. Yes of course "sales reps" I had a LVP done with a limited lifetime warranty when a couple of planks where cracking where it locks Empire wanted a $150 assessment fee. They also said they no longer have these items in stock. Their warranty/claims reps are rude "in my case my rep was rude SHE didn't want to put any of my words into consideration" and wanted me to pay everything out of pocket. I sent pictures and videos of the planks but still no "limited lifetime warranty" total BS. They're nice to get sales but so rude when handling warranty claims. Now I have to get my floor redone with other expert installers . I found out they didn't even level my sub floor making some of the planks to crack. SMH! read more

This is why I love Yelp. Having done many housing and construction projects for the past 30 plus years, I consider myself pretty well versed on flooring. I just got an estimate today 11/20/2024 for porcelain tile in about 1100 square feet. The guy was friendly but was avoiding giving me a price. Any non-salesy organization would be honest and give you a price per square foot for installation. He avoided that. Then he came up with a 30K estimate after I asked him to finally leave. I told him I could easily get it to half that. After he left, I looked up similar porcelain tiles on Fluor Decor and they were about $3-$5 per square foot. Which means top end it would be $5-$6k for materials. I'm sure I can get this job done for under $10k easily. Buyer be ware!!! read more

Very unprofessional and deceitful people. Two people showed up on a prearranged appointment. They misrepresented themselves at the introduction One guy said he was the salesman and the older guy said he was a trainee and did not have a business card. Two hours later after measurement were taken and samples reviewed, I noticed the salesman could not answer some questions, and was tongued-tied, had to call his manager, he said, on the phone who said, they would not do line-item pricing (e.g., here is total cost, take it or leave it) and when I asked them to email me the quote, they pointed to their tablet and said "take a photo" What kind of unprofessional organization tells the customer to take a photo of a quote off of the salesman tablet, and also refuses to provide line-item pricing. So there is no way to compare with other competitors. Unbelievably unprofessional After this impasse, then suddenly the older guy gets up and says "I am the manager, he is the trainee, and I am training him." I asked why he did not say so at the introduction. He implied they were using me to train the guy! They completely and utterly wasted my time. No apologies offered. I literally threw them out of my house and submitted an official complaint (# 1-7592467073) to their corporate office. But despite their executive, Chad from the their Minnesota office professing that they would reprimand these individuals, weeks later a guy called Dean from their corporate office kept calling me and I finally when I answered, asking why I have not responded to their quote! After several calls to my sales rep and Customer Service, I finally got a call back from Customer Service Manager. Then the Customer Service Manager stops responding. Finally the Customer Service Manager responds, scheduled technician to fix the issue. Technician replaced a couple of the planks. Now the replaced planks are lifting and you can see the difference of the flooring (new planks vs original planks). I have been calling since November 2022, with no resolution. I originally made a review on 1/9/25 in regards to having 3 appointment fail with empire due to a lack of communication, what seems like lazy drivers and lack of organization as I had appointment s but on the day of the appointment calling in after no body showed up and receiving the news that nobody was assigned to my appointment. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT use Empire Today for your flooring. They are the worst business I have ever worked with. It's not simply the shoddy craftsmanship or the misleading sales representative, it is the horrific customer service lead by Manager, Frank Amoto. Before I get to the complaints, let me state that I could deal with challenges, but Customer Service needs to be ready and willing to make things right. Not with this outfit. After the installation of the laminate flooring, I was sent an auto-generated survey. I asked for a phone call to discuss the issues of the poor installation. The call never came. I received another survey after the carper installation. Again, I asked for a phone call. Nothing came. I called the customer service line. They were "too busy" to take my call. "Please leave a name and number. Someone will get back to you." I did. No response. I left another message several days later. Nothing!!! I called again and used the name directory to get to the Customer Service Manager, Frank Amoto. To his credit, I did get a call back to what initially sounded like a sympathetic ear. He committed to looking into the situation and get back to me. He never did. I contacted the Sales line and finally was able to secure a quality inspector to review the craftmanship. He acknowledged that the tiles were coming up and the laminate kept cracking and snapping with each step. He explained we had a "floating mount". Nothing was adhered to the baseboard. We never heard of that before. And he explained the flooring was not 100% waterproof, which is what we required, due to the pet urine damage to the prior floor and carpet and expected continued challenges with our pets. Empire Today has a promotion that says something like, "buy one room get the rest of the rooms for $50 each". When you get the price quote, it is all rolled into one number. You have no idea how the special is applied. also, when I was given the initial quote, it was higher than I expected. I offered 22% cheaper price. They took it! They didn't even try to negotiate to the middle. They quoted more than $10,000 for the job. I suggested $8,000. They said OK. How inflated was their initial quote? Beware when you get your quote from them!!! Then come to find out, Empire Today doesn't have installers. They just farm it out to local installers. Therefore, you can get a much better deal by cutting out the middleman (Empire) and find someone yourself. The only benefit to using a larger firm like Empire Today is for the follow-up service, but trust me. There is NO follow-up caring or service. When the carpet team came out, they did not bring tact strips. They expected to tear up the old carpet and use the existing tact strips. Really? This carpet is 15 years old, damaged by cat urine and rot. When I insisted they replace what is there, they shared that they didn't have tact strips on their truck. Really? How could you come to install carpet and not be prepared with the right tools? What if our tact strips were poor (which they were)? I lost another day of work because they had to leave and come back another day. Then when they started to pull up the carpet, they said the tact strips that were there were better than what they brought? Really? You bought the cheapest tact strips on the market? What kind of quality work did you expect to do? So here we are with tiles lifting, pencil marks left on multiple tiles, and an incessant cracking and snapping with each step. After repeated attempts to contact someone, promises that someone would call back with updates that never came, I was offered a chance to pay more money to change the flooring. Pay more money??? For their poor craftmanship? I have asked for repairs to the floor. I am awaiting a response. I have asked for Frank Amoto's supervisor's name. This has been the worst experience my wife and I have been thru with our home. The first set of installers came and did an ok job in 3 rooms but the stair landing the carpet was crooked. The real issue started with the instal of the bedrooms a week later. The 3 installers came in and I told them to keep their socks on and put their shoes back on going in and out. But one installers went barefoot outside and brought dirt spots on the first carpet in the living room and the stairs, the is toe marks on the new carpet. The master bedroom was installed with a long seem that is very noticeable and the colors on each side of the seem are different. The other 2 bedrooms the carpet was laid crooked. When they moved some furniture the washed my wife's dresser. The seems at each doorway are separating and it's only been 2 weeks. The installers spilled paint in my driveway and used the hose and now I have a gray streak down the driveway. Also their were cigarettes butt's in the driveway. They had a really good guy come over to look at the issues and he said it all needed to be redone. He gave his report to the installation dept but she has not returned the last e of my wife's calls and we have not put our furniture back for when the correction will be done. It's July 10th and we are now told a decision will be made next week. The customer service people are very nice and note our account but then nothing happens. We are in Indianapolis. We are fortunate that we have the money to hire an attorney which is my next step if this is not resolved within the week. I'm retiring so I will make it my daily job to tell my story with Empire Today and use the names of our sales rep and the local managers. Our sales rep is silent also. We had new laminate installed in February 2021 with a new sub floor. The flooring separated within 9 months. We started a warranty claim which was finally approved in July eight months later. Several no call no shows from contractors they sent out finally one shows up to do the work on Tuesday. We now find out the contractor who laid the new subfloor down leveled it using cardboard and now we are back to the original subfloor which is unlevel and has a whole in it. Back to dealing with warranty. It does not matter who you call at empire they do nothing to help. Their warranty contractor told them it was a joist issue and we had to pay for it to get fixed. I have carpet installed in my house in the year of 2018, as the years went by and at the beginning of this year specifically(2022), the carpet has folded upwards and cannot be straightened. I am a renter and although friends offered to help with laminated floors for a two bedroom apartment I opted to go with Empire to ensure we had a warranty. Boy do I regret not reading reviews first!! We paid close to 8000.00 for the entire house which we knew was a bit steep but thought it was a reputable company. Within two weeks the floors in kitchen were gapping. A repair man came out and pushed it with a rubber mallet saying the floor would take time to settle in. It never did. The the floors near the entry way literally began to come up. We called numerous places including their cooperate offices which had all our notes but they never came out to resolve the problem. We could not find a physical store. We purchased water resistant flooring as at the time we had a small chihuahua that was older and occasionally had accidents off the pads. She passed away six months after the floors were installed. We went through the phone calls for two years. Our entire floor actually waves and I have a carpet over the boards that are completely broken. You can see the waves in floor boards on top of the carpet. In desperation we called pretending to want another service just because no one would respond to our phone calls. The sales man who was our original sales person was the same guy and was upset we called him saying we took away from his time. I told him this was the only way we could get a response. I was in tears as I showed him the floors to which he stated "what happened.? Then he proceeded to tell us that Empire doesn't even sell this product any more because its poor quality to which I reminded him he sold it saying it was top of the line. He pretended to make pho9ne calls to his supervisor and assured us it would be corrected but again no response. We made on last attempt at calling and the person we spoke to read the notes and told us that the note stated that the damage was caused by our 4 cats and 3 dogs. We do not own cats and only had two small dogs at the time which they never saw. I have the papers to sue in small claims but it is so time consuming. I'm writing this review to let potential customers of Empire Today know about my unpleasant experience and their questionable business practices. I requested Empire to come to my home to provide me with an estimate for replacing the carpet. The total square footage of carpet needed was 1240 square feet which covered the living room, dining room and 4 bedroom. There outside sales employee, Randy Machaell who was very professional and pleasant came out measured the areas to be carpeted and presented me with a wide selection of different carpet types to choose from. The price quoted was in excess of $7,500. However, Mr Machaell stated that if I put down a deposit ($400) and scheduled the installation he could apply his employee discount and get the price down. He reduced the price down to $6250. This was just a ploy to get me to commit to installing the carpet. A tactic to make it look like Empire is giving you a good deal. To lock in the price I put down the deposit and set a date for installation I informed Mr. Machaell that we wanted to get competitive bid and would there be any problem with getting the deposit back if we went with someone else. He told me that we had 5 days to decide and there would be no problem, we would just need to call their 800 number, cancel and our $400 deposit would be immediately credited back to our debit card. We obtained a competitive bid from Wally's Carpet and Tile in San Bernardino. I looked them up on Yelp and they had a five star rating compared to Empire Today's 1.7 stars. My mistake for not looking up Empire on Yelp before I ask them to come out. The quote I got from Wally's was $5486 a $746 saving. When I called Empire's customer service 800 number to cancel in installation and get my deposit back I was surprised with what I was told. I talked to "Alfred" he refused to give me his last name or the initial of his last name. I told him I got a lower bid for my carpet job and I wanted to cancel and get my deposit credited back to my debit card. He stated he wanted to ask me a couple of questions. He ask me what was the competitive price I got. I told him I did not want to tell him and would he please credit the deposit back to my card. He informed me that if I wouldn't answer his question I would have write a letter to Empire in order to get my deposit back. I explained to him that the outside sales rep told me that I would just need to call and the deposit would immediately be applied back to my card. Alfred ask, didn't I read the contract, it clearly states that I would need to write in to get my refund back and electronic refunds are done as a courtesy. Empire was essentially holding my deposit and making it difficult to get it back unless I answered their questions I gave him a bogus number and he said he processed the refund and it would take up to 5-10 days. Very bad business practices and I truly understand why they have a Yelp rating of 1.7. Think twice before using Empire Today. read more

Our sales guy literally stormed out at the end of a 2 hour free consultation (that could have been done in 10 minutes) when we said we didn't want to order it and put $400 down yet lmao like wtf. I might actually go back to them had they been more professional but fine. And after seeing more prices I'm glad I didn't go with them. read more

I contracted Empire Today to install flooring on several rooms and halls. The workers would always show up late; take long breaks; leave a mess; and leave late. They left some excess material outside, which I had to pay someone to haul away. One of the workers misplaced the top of a toilet; I had to call Empire to find out where he could have placed it. A few months later, cracks developed on three of the tiles; they refused to replace them. Work is not guaranteed! read more
