Encinitas Self Storage to the rescue! My mother-in-law moved across the country and the giant moving truck (not all her stuff) needed to drop off a load at storage. Even though both Encinitas Self Storage and we had advised the driver not to use a smaller shuttle to bring the stuff to storage, the driver didn't listen and (surprise!) couldn't get to her unit. The helpful staff at Encinitas Self Storage were kind and flexible, and allowed us to use their complimentary moving truck as a shuttle. Beyond that, they were very accommodating with allowing us to put the space on hold while we figured out what we needed. Thank you for coming to our rescue Encinitas Self Storage! I have never used a storage unit before- never needed to really. But moving into a smaller apartment I had some things I wasn't willing to part with but didn't have room for so i thought i would look into self storage. Despite what I thought storage was (especially after the recent release of Netflix's second season of "You") I was surprised at the cost of a storage unit! Do i really want to spend upwards of $100 per month to store my Christmas ornaments and old year books?? I continued to look around and call more places and that's when I found Encinitas self storage. They had some special web prices that i was more than happy with. I called and the staff was super friendly and went through some different size options with me. They even reserved a unit they thought might fit my needs and we scheduled a time for me to come see it. During the visit they explained everything I needed to know about accessing the facility, payments, etc. I was happy with the size of the unit I selected but they actually showed me one size smaller and one size bigger just to make sure I had made the right choice. They do require you to have a special lock but they sell them right on the premises for only $15. I feel that my things are safe being stored there. They have lifts to help transport things to the second level. The halls are well lit and the security is top notch. I would recommend them for sure! read more

Every time I needed to visit the office, I was greeted warmly and enjoyed a nice conversation after my needs had been resolved. The facilities are spotless and secure. The entry keypad is in great condition and always works. Motion sensors inside the buildings bring on lights and background music. The grounds were always clean. All for a competitive price! I wanted to update this after speaking with Kraig, the Director of Operations for San Diego. He called me a few days after my last call with the District Manager, Jessica, who cut me off as I was just starting to tell what happened and insisted a free month's worth of rent on both units (RV and Storage) was all she could do. When I asked to get the rent paid on the RV unit alone back (I told her I'd be more than happy to pay for my storage unit--I *USE* it), she told me it was my choice to keep the RV spot so she couldn't help me recover the money I spent on the unused (and unusable) spot. Anyway, Kraig somehow heard about all of this and called. He immediately apologized for everything, didn't even ask to hear the story but reiterated the key points (without being aggressive---just so I knew he wasn't calling me "blind"), and even thanked me for handling it the way I did. I told him that the employees there were NOT to blame and in fact were excellent from my first visit to TheIncident(tm), to which he agreed and said he knew exactly where the problem was. Kraig then offered me the refund I had been wanting and everyone had been hounding me to keep on their case for. In fact, not only did he refund me but given the circumstances, also helped cover the tow charges. He totally turned the situation around singlehandedly and I cannot thank him enough. Due to the fact he's the Director of Operations and not *immediately* associated with the individual owner/owner's property, I'm not going to increase my rating since he's not directly to blame. Not sure one Yelp review is enough to make the owner lose sleep but it is nice to know *SOMEONE* from that company cared enough to make it right for me, which doesn't always happen. To Kraig, I thank you, immensely. Your professional attitude, empathy, understanding of what the actual problem was, and the "olive branch" you extended to me turned this situation a complete 180°. read more

Their substandard email service filed my message (from a legitimate address and with only PDF attachments) as spam, and they refused to credit my account for unnecessary insurance coverage that they require. They are generally terse and unhelpful, and don't understand that investing $40 in a refund now would buy them a $40/month customer for years. I'll be terminating my business with them in the very near future. Update: After posting a one-star review, a representative from the San Diego Self Storage corporate office called me less than an hour later. She recognized the insurance coverage, credited the account, and comped me a month's rent for the trouble (thank you again). I don't recall her name, but I recommend calling 619-948-0790 if you encounter resistance from the local staff. read more

I must say that the staff at Encinitas Self Storage is top notch and two guys in particular were very helpful. The very first time I called from Portland, I spoke with Joey D. & he helped me to learn more about the units - size, humidity, etc. When I first arrived, he again helped me to choose a unit that would help my stamp collection to stay dry, cool and protected. After coming back many times to retrieve items, I would often run into Curnice G. at the front office. He always had a smile on his face and was willing to answer all of my questions accurately and efficiently. With employees like these two guys, it's no wonder that my so many people have recommended this place to store items. I am amazed that I am writing a review for a self-storage facility, but Encinitas Self Storage has inspired me. This is a great self-storage facility for the usual reasons, but this place is also unique for a few reasons. The most important being that they accept packages! Yes, you heard me right, with a rented unit at ESS and just a bit of paperwork, I can have packages sent to my unit via FedEx, UPS etc that require signature. They actually accept the package and bring ti to my unit. This is an awesome service and they do it beautifully. No other local self-storage place offers this, and it is an invaluable feature for me. Also, they are just nice people with a nice facility. Everyone at the office is nice, the payment process is easy, and the facility is immaculately maintained. I've used Encinitas Self Storage a few times, and I've always had good experiences. Most recently, I had two units as I was moving between houses. I got one unit then realized I needed a second. The staff found one in the same building to make it easy on me. They were also patient with me as I asked to see several units as I was unsure of the size I needed. Last weekend, I emptied out one of the units much earlier than I expected, and they kindly let me close it out even though I didn't give the required 30 day notice. They also offer 50% off the first month! The facilities are well kept and clean. There are carts available to use to move things, and there is a dumpster. The only slight down side is the access hours are regulated, and it is hard to get in during the week if you're working typical hours. But it is worth it to know your stuff is safe.
