I agree with KCS - SHE IS A RUDE RUDE BARTENDER...My story goes like this: I show up on Wed 5/22/13...at 10:30...live band sound great and they're playing Stones and Amy Winehouse Valerie...great start.. .then it turns ugly......there is no stage..I buy a single beer and notice a bell hanging above the bar...I ring the bell....customer asks me if I even know what the bell ring means...I say no as I return to enjoy the band...10 min later..not joking...bartender leaves the bar and grabs both my shoulders from behind and tells me I am too close to the band....she is NOT a happy person to say the least...I was having so much fun until then...I decide to leave after that and discover that she is charging me $147...for my one beer!!!!.....because I rang the bell....I have been know to buy a buddy a beer...but 20 strangers...nope...never...I refused to sign that tab and left. Tried to work this out with the owner who was not there..no dice....filed complaint with BBB, Attorney General , etc,,,,,,STAY AWAY...TRUST ME ON THIS ONE! Negative 5 stars for her. read more

A dive to rival the best/worst of dives. In Edmonds? Apparently. The place is dark, musty, and dingy. But there is a skee ball machine, pool table, and electronic dart board shoved in a tiny back room. And with that, you can have hours of fun. Friendly bartenders, great selections of beers. Engles Pub is the other late night option in the early-to-bed town of Edmonds. It's a far cry from it's neighboring businesses (lots of small niche shops). The service is scant, the facility is dingy, and the crowd is mundane...everything Edmonds is not, which is what makes this an excellent escape. The selection on tap is minimal, but they do offer a few local brews, including some of Lynnwood's own Ellersick. And their Pulled Pork Sandwich has been called the best late-night value in Edmonds. Next time you find yourself in Edmonds latter in the evening and want to avoid the rif-raf at the other late-night spots, venture into Engles. You're sure to have a night worth remembering. read more

Three stars when rated against the area in general, but more like 4.5 stars when dealing specifically with dive bars. The guy behind the bar--I assume is the owner--was dynamite in terms of brew knowledge and local history... The conversation was great. I've been back here several times since my first review, and I feel it is worth updating. First of all there's a really great, laid-back atmosphere here. The staff are really friendly and do an amazing job. I can think of at least 3 really good reasons to check this place out. 1. The beer selection on tap is really great. Owner really knows his stuff and what he's doing here. 2. Friendly staff. It's got that small-town vibe. 3. It gets really truly packed when they've got their cool blues bands playing. I've met some pretty darned cool people I don't mind seeing once in a while in there as well. read more

A little local bar in downtown Edmonds, this spot is great! Great revolving selections of beers on tap as well as Rainier in a bottle keep me satisfied! Aside from that, an owner that's knowledgeable about beers, a plethora of live music, and horribly unhealthy fried foods if you forgot to eat all make this a great stop on your Edmonds evening or a night in itself! All of Edmonds is just adorable. I want to put it in my pocket. This place has been around forever apparently. My favorite elements were the hundreds of dollar bills wringing the walls with names and phrases; the 17 types of beer on tap, and the 12 different pull tab lottery options. Bangin'. read more

What do you need to know about this place? It is a great local bar; there are very little of these left. They have a great selection of draft beers. It has a fun, unpretentious feel; anybody can come in and enjoy themselves. We happened in during a karaoke night. Engels owns the deli next door, and tonight, I had the best Reuben Sandwich I have ever eaten. Their menu is pretty basic but it has all the favorites that we all love. Try this place. It is like going back in time. Some of us enjoy those days. Alas....the deli is now closed. ;-( read more

I use to frequent this place till the owner and the bartender had an issue with me over being too talkative towards other patrons! They told me that i am banned from there and won't explain why. This bar is a hole in the wall and doesn't deserve the business that they get, they don't care about their customers at all! I will be taking up my concern with the attorney general for poor service, over serving that I have personally seen and racism from the bar owner. I don't think they appreciate anyone but themselves, I have heard this from a number of friends of mine. read more

This place has 'character.' It's been around forever. The new owner is friendly, knows his micro-brew beers and makes you feel welcome. There's too many cookie-cutter resturant chains and other establishments where the bartenders can't be bothered to give friendly service. I wAs not impressed with my first time coming here. My boyfriend and I walked in around1:30 am and the first thing the bartender kind of yelled to us was "were not serving alcohol!" our first few steps into the bar and we were turned around and kind of forced out. Great place to go. My go to place for a good Guinness. We have an Irish bar in town but I prefer the Guinness at Engels. The new owners have really made a difference at Engels and it is back to being my go to place. They have the best corn dogs and tater tots in the area as long as you don't mind fried foods. I love their Engels happy meal but I can only eat it once in awhile. Service is always great and they don't put up with BS. As a musician, this is one of my favorite places to play, musicians and music are respected here and the music quality is kept high! On a busy night, Engels reminds me of an awesome house party with a band. Its a small place and you quickly get to know everyone. The real shining star of Engels is the worlds greatest bar tender Tisha who in my opinion, makes this place a destination. Shes not paying me to say that, but every bar should have this kind of dedicated, friendly help! The comments about a rude female bartender, must have been made by someone who was making an ass of themselves which thankfully is not tolerated long in this small space. come to the best, the oldest the only true dive bar in Edmonds. Walk into a lo ceilinged narrow space with a tilted & worn pool table in the back. A great bartender, the only bar that I go to at 11:00 pm alone cuz you can walk home and your safe at the bar with Joey. very nice place seems to carry a real friendly clientel we have enjoyed a half dozen wednesday nights there. The food is good the service is good however this past wednesday night it seemed that no matter what dollar figure was handed to the bartender change returned was not a priority and when questioned took great offense at the thought that you werent given your change or better yet the oportunity to tip was not left to you. We will not return to a place where you may have to watch your drink as well as making sure you get your change immediatly. read more
