Unfortunately they were out of chicken strips when we sat down so we opted for the fish and chips with my wife ordering a Chardonnay and I their draft Sam Adams. The fish and chips were rather pedestrian. I decided on another beer and my wife wanted a Bailey's & coffee. The $16 Bailey's & coffee seemed to be a measured shot. Keeping in mind we're at LAX I was still somewhat surprised at the $100 bill! Regretfully we did not study the bill and tipped 20% only to find out later that gratuity was included. Delicious food and fast service. We received our order perfectly and quick, but our server only spoke to us at the beginning and the end. She is efficient no doubt, but 0 warmth in service. For an airport restaurant this place is really good! I had a late layover and I was able to order food shortly before the kitchen closed. I was starving and decided to try the calamari appetizer and their original cheeseburger with fries. Calamari: perfectly fried and it had tons of flavor! The calamari tasted fresh and I think they sprinkled some kind of seasoned salt on it. Whatever it was it was delicious! It came with both aioli and tartar sauce for dipping. There was an even amount of legs and rings, and they were tender and flavorful especially with lemon squeezed on top. So crispy! Cheeseburger and shoe string fries: the cheeseburger was cooked medium well and it was juicy with a lot of flavor. The lettuce was fresh. The fries came in a cute metal basket and they were hot and crispy. The service was good and they always kept my drink full. They offered dessert and I caved in for the pecan pie, but I got it to go to eat later on the plane! If you have a long layover and want good food this place is worth trying. read more

Honestly this place was super solid! You really don't expect much in airport restaurants in general, but my food here was super good. We split the Baja breakfast wrap and honestly I wished I got my own. Super simple menu, but what I had was really good. We both had coffee as well which was mad decent. Overall this place is definitely better than the 3 stars on Yelp right now, some people are so freaking difficult. This spot is pleasantly delicious for an airport restaurant. Yes, prices are pretty steep but I've been to airports with higher prices. The sandwiches are about $16.99 and it's pretty big with a good amount of fries. I actually ate here twice when I departed and arrived at LAX. Their wine prices are deeply steep at $10 per glass but I like their selection so I didn't really mind. It's a good place to relax where not many people were here. Possibly because of the coronavirus scare, many people haven't been traveling. Speaking of germs, the tables were clean and I saw the server cleaning up all the tables fairly well which made me happy. FYI... the turkey sandwich has a lot of turkey slices in it you could take half of it on the plane. Really nice looking place with a bar at the entrance to park yourself, or a dining area inside. I chose to sit since I had a couple of hours in between flights. However the amount was kinda deceiving ...looked like a decent amount, but when I took the spoon to dig in, surprise ! A wide looking but shallow bowl! I think perhaps half an inch of chili. But have to say it tasted good. Came with a bit of salsa and guacamole...but no bread ! *sigh* a hit and miss in my mind for the $12 I thought. After consulting other reviews I shied away from the real high end stuff here and settled for a bowl of chili. The name "Firehouse" may give the impression that this could be a bad ass chili. It is not. I don't think there was much of any spices that provide heat. It was a hamburger chili with beans. It was thin like a soup. The cheese stuffed bread things that came with the chili were good and tasted even better after dipping. Service was quick and there was no anxiety about running out of time before boarding. There are other pricey food providers at LAX but some of them have very good food. This place is out on the concourse for the small United commuter jets (Terminal 8) and the only other option was Carl's Jr. One concourse away is Wolfgang Pucks if you have time. Located in terminal 8 in the LAX airport. I decided to kill some time and watch some football at their bar. They have outlet plugs to charge your phone. Quick service and friendly. As the ladies who sat next to me ordered and ate their salads they looked over at my burger and said they ordered wrong....why did they say this? Well my pimiento cheese burger was huge and delicious that's why!!! Engine Co No 28 is conveniently located in terminal 8 at the Los Angeles international airport (LAX). I stopped here for breakfast prior to my flight and I was immediately seated by a friendly host. The restaurant was fairly busy when I arrived, with almost all of the tables taken. This restaurant has a nice little menu for breakfast, although the prices are much higher than the Carl's Jr. nearby in the same terminal. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, the waitress was semi-attentive; I spent a lot of time waiting for the waitress, which is really not tolerable for an airport restaurant. She was also not all that friendly, and this is not acceptable for a place more expensive than a fast-food establishment. On the plus side, the restaurant has a cool atmosphere with a bar available to make the long flight you're about to take more tolerable. There is also a complementary business immediately next door that has food and drinks for folks that just want to grab something quick, but they don't have the time to sit down. This business has the potential to be a five-star establishment, but unfortunately they fell short of this during my visit. Although it has a nice atmosphere and high-quality food, their prices need to be reduced and/or their customer service needs improvement. read more

Stopped here while on a layover around 9pm, and thought that it was the best looking restaurant out of the fast food options and lonely beach one at the end of the terminal. Despite all the reviews, I had stellar service from the host and the server. It could have been the later evening hours, but overall it was a better than average airport dining experience. This was also a comfortable place to bust out your laptop or read since it wasn't so busy and the atmosphere beat the smaller, under construction gates within the terminal. I was starving after a long flight, and on a time difference, but I decided to try to eat 'better'. As much as I wanted to try the chicken and waffle bites, the salads looked really good! The cobb salad came highly recommended, and so I ordered that and it did not disappoint. Granted it's a salad, but it totally filled me up, as they serve a generous portion. In LAX a convenient spot to kill some time from a three hour layover! This place is as expected for airport restaurants both atmosphere and price so I know that coming in. The menu looks really good. On a cold rainy day I ordered the firehouse chili taking a chance that it might be too spicy. To my surprise and disappointment it had no kick at all and little flavor. It was more like a chili soup. The tables are so close together it felt like I was sitting with the family next to me. It's too tiring listening to other people's drama! I finished my lunch and left right away. Flew United from Sacramento with a connection at LAX. Actually, my flight was delayed an hour or so and the choices to eat at the terminal were slim: surfer burritos, Carl's Junior, or Engine Co. Pricey, but what airport food isn't? Was able to put my bags down, sit and enjoy my meal in peace. Granted, I was a solo diner and thus seated near the screens where the waiters punch in the checks, but the wooden divider was high enough. I ordered the pimiento cheese bacon-cado burger. Not bad! The pimiento cheese was a nice detour from a slice of American, the avocado was fresh and presented well, the bacon crispy. Brioche bun. Slaw was good but teeny cupful. Caveat: airport dining. All of the food here is cooked to order and fresh... which is rare. The blueberry pancakes were so good, and my poached egg was cooked to order, which seems to be a challenge everywhere. Jaime was exceptional at the bar. Friendly, fast and full of knowledge or recommendations. I had a shot of fireball with my pancakes... because I do what I want at 9am, and the shot was only 7 bucks... compared to a 15 dollar bloody. But aside from that, there's really nothing special about the food. I ordered the Biscuit and gravy breakfast meal for about $13. The cheapest on the breakfast menu. It came with two eggs and a choice of bacon or sausage. I chose the bacon, it came with 3 pcs. The biscuits reminded me of the ones i would buy from the grocery store. The Pillsbury biscuits.
