Mushroom Wellington and Hanger Steak entrees
    Ashley H.

I went to celebrate a friend's birthday and it was wonderful. The food was outstanding and the drinks were perfectly balanced. Service was quick and the staff were polite and so generous. They surprised us at the end with sorbet and prosecco! It was a dimly lit intimate setting, but with fun recognizable music perfectly playing in the background. It's a vegetable forward menu, but the hanger steak was unbelievable. Very inclusive for people of different dietary needs. Go here!

Enjoyed the plant-based Brunch very much! Wonderful food, good service. Brunch is a tasting menu served in multiple courses... This week's menu included: foccacia w/ a delicious fig jam roasted butternut squash soup endive and mixed greens with a tasty green apple vinaigrette sweet potato and cauliflower curry a new item- a quesadilla with Just Egg and a vegan cheese, probably my favorite menu item stuffed french toast- this was the only less than awesome item. it tasted fine but didn't really seem like French toast to us. dessert was a lovely coconut cake We all enjoyed the meal greatly and all agreed we'd come back.

I came with some girlfriends for Winter Restaurant Week and enjoyed the dinner option, 3 courses for $40. The wine pairing was pretty affordable at $20 but didn't opt in for that. I started with the octopus/polpo appetizer. Mine was very flavorful and cooked well but my friend said hers was a little chewy. We got Mac and cheese for the table; while cooked well, it was overall a miss for me. For my entree I ate the Amish chicken which was sublime and a good portion size. My friends who ordered steak said it was a small portion and was just ok. Lastly I ordered the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. It was tasty but very sweet, which may be the point haha. Our waiter also was sweet and brought me a cocktail for dessert so I could cheers with my girls. I will definitely be back!

A birthday celebration in DC! We came to DC toward the end of winter restaurant week. This is a place that you definitely want reservations for. We decided to go with the 3 courses for $40 each. We arrived early so we were seated at the bar where we enjoyed mocktails, which were beyond delicious, along with the olive spread and bread and fried artichokes. Both the bar service and table service were incredible. They were very attentive. The restaurant offers a cool vibe with the bar and televisions in one section, and the other corners providing an ambiance of romantic to friend hang out. I appreciated that the restaurant offered a variety of vegan options. It's hard to find. All of the food was incredible. A culinary experience, as the people say.

As usual, Equinox does not disappoint. It wasn't too crowded, since it was a weekday night, unlike during Sunday brunch. Their à la carte menu is great, but they also have standing five-course tasting menus (including a vegan one!) which is fun. The white bean soup and coconut panna cotta were our favorite dishes. The cocktail menu is great too, including some creative mocktails. We went to celebrate an anniversary and noted it in our reservation, and the staff thoughtfully offered us complimentary beverages and added something special to our dessert. Always a nice touch! Just a thoughtful and elegant experience overall.

Service: 5/5. Attentive and kind. Ambiance: 4.5/5. A bit noisy from the people at the bar but otherwise nice. Food overall: 4/5 for the price. Portions were a healthy size, not too much or too little. White bean soup: 3.75/5. Needed salt. Really would've made this amazing. Otherwise a cozy, creamy, pleasant experience. Eggplant Parmesan with arugula salad: 4/5. Also needed salt. Would've been close to a 5. Otherwise nice crunch with fresh ingredients. Mushroom Wellington: 4.5/5. Probably my favorite dish of the evening. Flavorful with complimentary and interesting textures. Bacon wrapped Venison: 4.5/5. Second to the mushroom Wellington for me, though partner rated this as his favorite. Venison was tender and juicy. Puree and greens were a great compliment. Bread pudding: 4/5. Lovely presentation. Not too sweet.

Meh. Really amazing staff, but not a fan of the food. ~ Artichoke appetizer sounded interesting, but I didn't care for the friend version with a runny aioli. ~ Others seemed to like the risotto fritters- they were creamy, but were just I thought the deep fried balls were just ok. ~ Focaccia was soft, not grilled, and the combo of sweet ricotta and pickled veg just didn't seem to go together for me. ~ Arugula salad with figs was my fave dish of the night ~ Halibut is beautifully presented, but the fish was under-salted for my taste, there were only a few teeny pieces of lobster, I didn't see any scallops.

Checked out the new Equinox space for restaurant week. It's a lovely space, but a bit tight and loud. The food was still very good like at the previous space, and restaurant week is a great experience. The heart of palm cakes with ratatouille were amazing! The fish was well cooked but could have used more sauce. The toffee cake was the standout dessert. My friends also said the mushroom Wellington was awesome. The wine pairing was lovely and a good value, albeit not a legit pairing experience :) also nice mocktails here.

Enjoyed a delicious dinner (tasting menu) here in December. It was lovely to have a table by the fire to feel warm and cozy during our meal. We were thankful to see so many plant-based options provided. I don't think I had a favorite dish... the soup, salad, entree, and dessert were all fresh and flavorful. And the wine pairings were lovely.

Can't resist restaurant week. Our table had the octopus, arugula salad, and zucchini blossoms tempura. Everything beautifully composed and executed. Round two included the hen of the woods mushrooms, swordfish in puttanesca sauce, and skirt steak. Each one carefully thought out and enjoyable. Honestly, the skirt steak has more flavor, but is less tender than filet minion, so I prefer the latter. Our table had the lemon olive oil cake , black forrest cake, and caramel chocolate tart. Three perfect endings to a night on the town.

We tried the 5 course meal at this restaurant for restaurant week and were very pleased with the simple selection of dishes and ingredients. Everything felt super fresh and the quantity was just right. The plating was very pleasant and gave a very classy Michigan star look. The cocktails were not included in the 5-course meal but were very refreshing. I would strongly recommend this place!

Pro Tip: order the tasting menu. Just do it, okay? The plant based tasting menu was delicious. I had the best eggplant I've ever had in my life. I happened to come during the week they had an Icelandic tasting menu, and the skyr and blueberries dessert was to DIE for. Like seriously, I'm leaving this dessert money in my will. It deserves to live a comfortable life. My husband also had really good scallops, cod, and lamb. Said it was the best land he'd ever eaten. I'm taking one star off just because the service was slow when we arrived. No one even took our drink order for 20 minutes, even though everything ran smoothly after that.

The ribeye and New York strip were very good. The butchers steak I got for my son and he didn't really like it, it was lacking flavor. If you do anything when you go, please make sure to get the biscuits. Hands down THE BEST BISCUITS I've ever had lol. They are the most flaky and buttery biscuits, you can count each layer that these have. Pro tip is to ask for butter and the house made jam. The pimento cheese is good with them but it becomes a little too decadent. Overall I'm happy we made the decision to come here, we will be back soon.

The standout of the morning was the breakfast side potatoes--crispy, seasoned perfectly, and easily something I'd come back for. The breadbasket came with three pastries, which felt a bit smaller than expected, but the almond croissant more than made up for it. On the heartier side, the chicken and waffles were extremely filling thanks to the dense waffles, so definitely a dish to tackle with an appetite. One of the biggest surprises was the brunch salad with salmon, which ended up being one of the best salads I've had in a long time--fresh, balanced, and satisfying. The breakfast sandwich was another highlight: so good that it's now the new standard I'll compare all other breakfast sandwiches to. The smoked salmon bagel was also a fun experience, served deconstructed so you can build each bite exactly how you like it. Not everything was a hit--the French toast wasn't my favorite--but the overall meal was strong enough that it barely detracted from the experience. Brunch offers a few additions beyond the regular breakfast menu, but overall it's very similar to their standard breakfast, just with a couple of extra options. For bites, we shared the chicken nuggets with caviar (yes, nuggets and caviar... and yes, they were delicious) and the lemon garlic shrimp, which was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Everything we ordered hit the mark. Prices are about what you'd expect for K Street and the overall vibe. Think $20-$25 cocktails, $20+ appetizers, and $35+ entrees. Portions, both drinks and food, lean on the smaller side, which is probably the only thing that might make you pause and wonder if it's slightly overpriced. ‍ Service Service was great.
