It is what it is. A greasy fast food joint on a pier( AKA a Tourist Trap) We had 2 things here over 2 days. A funnel cake with ice cream. That was tasty and I thought the 5.50 price was fair. We had an order of onion rings the next day, I think a small order was 4.00. Once again, a fair price. It was a pretty big order. The prices on the sodas are ridonculous. 2.50 for a small, but you do get a free refill( just 1). They mark your cup after your refill so you cant get another one. We got in line at 4:45, 3 minutes later they called last call for beer, we remained in line for another 10 minutes and when we got to the front (at 5'o'clock exactly) they refused to serve us. If doing your job requires you to allow your customers to wait in line for absolutely no reason instead of telling them that they won't be served, then your job is soulless and I hate you. Didn't actually eat any food, just got a beer here. It's a pretty good place to sit outside and have a beer and people watch at the same time, though their outside area is a little limited. Would have given them 4 stars, BUT- the beer was borderline warm. No-No. Avalon is not in Europe. Invest in a better refrigerator and I will come back and give you an extra star. Restaurants on Catalina Island kind of reminds me of the Bahamas in that the food is way overpriced for the shitty meals you get. We ordered: Fish, clams, shrimp and chips - fries were cold, all seafood was frozen and not fresh, and tasted like ass. Calamari - was like eating deep-fried, breaded rubber. In the Bahamas, the only decent places I ate were at Nobu and Mesa Grill. I would rather pay 2-5x more for an excellent meal than $30-40 for a shitty meal. Do yourself a favor: eat at Mcdonalds in Long Beach, bring some Subway sandwiches for later and save yourself the torture of eating shitty overpriced food on Catalina. read more

It took me a while to get the cashiers attention to order my food. The burger patties are thin. When you order a double burger it's hard to see the two patties. Not many places to sit if you have a family. For 36 US Dollars I got 2 cheese burgers, 2 fries, 2 sodas and one rude server. Later on after comparing this to other restaurants, I have to say this place is a high priced, low quality tourist trap with an attitude that include being rude. There a better places off the pier at Crescent or Catalina roads. The good restaurants are also frequented by the locals. read more

My husband & I were visiting Catalina over the weekend. Had a little time to kill waiting for the Catalina Express back home so we stopped here. He got a michelada & I got an ice cream cone (no booze for me... Im preggo lol). Hubby says the michelada was one of the best he's ever had... And he's had his fair share to compare. Figured this place would be good considering the amount of people constantly swarming this place, but it unfortunately wasn't. Spent 30 dollars for two not so good burgers, cheese fries, and a drink. The cheese fries were pretty good, but that was about it. I got a bison burger and it tasted like literally nothing. No flavor to it at all. Not sure if bison is just a not flavorful meat since it was my first time trying it, but it tasted like nothing. My boyfriends normal burger was just okay too. Normally love Eric's... today there was an older lady who claimed she was Eric's "patrol" my party of 16 had been in line for 40 minutes when the "patrol" put a party of 3 in front if us which was okay with us. Then she came back again complaining we were standing too close to the building. We moved away respectfully now standing in the center of the pier. She then stood 20ft away from us scolding us and after another 10 minutes she came back and claimed we weren't social distancing meanwhile the 10 people in front of us were standing hardly a foot apart. She then claimed she was the owner (when she was not) and told us to leave. WORST experience ever actions need to be taken she is a horrible employee. rudest person I have met in my life. read more

All we had was the Fish and Chips, and for a place that literally sits on the water, not impressed at all. Fish seemed frozen, along with the fries, tarter sauce was the best part of the meal. The menu said that it came with 3 pieces, and the food arrived with 4. Was pleasantly surprised until I realized that the food was sub par, and they were probably trying to make up for it. I can't tell you if anything else on the menu tastes any fresher, because all I had was Fish and Chips, but it definitely left me with a salty taste in my mouth not only about Eric's but about Catalina Island in general. Really good food for the price. The line gets kind of long, but luckily our wait wasn't even that long. I got the clam chowder in the bread bowl, the bread bowl is smaller than most but it was really good. The sourdough bread was nice and soft. Awesome Possum! Our first meal in Catalina and it was fabulous. We spent $30 bucks on funnel cake, a burger, and a seafood combo (includes fish and chips with fried clams and two pieces of fried shrimp) I felt very unhealthy eating all that fried stuff, but BY GEORGE, I didn't care. I was craving fish tacos after leaving the submarine tour. Of all fish tacos in Avalon, I found Eric's fried tacos to be the best. They are not the best fish taco's I've ever had but I can sit and eat through these. Eric's has two selections of fish tacos: steamed or fried. I ordered one of each. I didn't like the steamed fish taco so I didn't finish eating it. The fried fish taco was so much better. For dessert, I got a funnel cake with strawberries & whipped cream. It was a typical funnel cake, nothing special. The men who worked here were nice. However, the people who ordered burgers after us got their food before our tacos. As we were walking around on the pier, we noticed this place right on the boardwalk so decided to sit and have a beer. We ordered 2 beers on tap, both were different beers but both were warm so thank goodness for windy weather because I would definitely have a problem with warm beer on a hot day. Had the 3 soft tacos... Asada, chicken and shrimp. I also sampled the fried fried which is better than your mcdonalds fish. Having eaten at numerous Mexican restaurants living in LA, I don't see anything special about this place. While walking around the island, we wanted to grab a quick bit. It was quite convenient that this place is located on the pier. Your ambience is pretty much the beach, and the service was fast. read more

Can't comment on themost of the menu but whenever we come to Catalina we usually grab some fish tacos and beer from Eric's. If you are looking for classy ambiance this is not the place for you; you just pull up a stool and relax while you eat your food. I happen to like the hustle and bustle of boats and people moving by. The 6"-8" long (I can't recall exactly) fish tacos come two to a plate, either hard or soft, with some shreds of seasoned cabbage and a few hunks of premade salsa on top. Each taco had two decently sized fried fish strips and came with a side of beans and rice. The beans and rice are not anything to write home about. Not the fanciest food but it definitely hits the spot while killing time on the green pier. read more

Went here on my birthday, and we were pretty hungry. - Environment - Eric's is right at the beginning of the pier and had a good amount of seating I would say. The seating close to the bar is well covered and fairly clean. The food here was pretty typical I would say. We got the seafood combo and the clam chowder bowl. The bowl first off was made fairly well, nothing out of the ordinary but overall a pretty decent bowl of chowder. The seafood combo was a fair share of food but there was just too little seafood in comparison to the fried batter. The seafood itself seemed pretty fresh, but the portions of seafood in the batter were somewhat small. - Pricing - These two were more than enough to fill up 2 people and for a little over $20, it wasn't too bad for where we were. I'm sure there are other great places to eat but this one was decent to keep you over. Overall - I think i'll try another place next time. read more

$6.65 breakfast sandwich was one of the best deals we could find in overpriced avalon. Egg, cheese, bacon, on a toasted buttery sourdough bun. Just big enough to make you feel good, but not so big it makes you ill. Pro tip: When the sun starts beating down in avalon turning everything alive into crispy critters, the shade at eric's plus the wind from the ocean is practically air conditioning. Went there with some friends, I ordered the chili cheese fries which tasted like strips of cardboard with some type of flavorless red sauce, horrible. Stood in line to order while some man looked at me then walked away, had to wait longer for someone to finally come take my order. The workers here are VERY rude, and have attitude for no reason. Ye be warned! As another yelper said it looks good because it's busy and the atmosphere helps to encourage sales. Our most recent trip to the isle started with a breakfast burrito from Eric's. I went big and asked for extra bacon. Twenty minutes and $16.00 dollars later we had our sad burrito, complete with canned steamed tomatoes?? As for the "extra bacon" I would estimate that there was almost one entire fatty burnt strip collectively in the burrito. If I could give less stars I would. No taste, no service, bad attitude and a high price. As a frequent visitor to the Island I will make it a point to never return to Eric's on the Pier. There are a lot of great choices on the Island. Looked like a really cool local hole in the wall eatery but turned out to be quite underwhelming! I had the Buffalo burger and some fries, the burger was ok but a bit dry and the bun seemed sort of wet maybe due to to much butter ??? The fries where just plain horrible, mealy!!! How does one screw up French fries? My spouse had 3 tacos that looked really good and he said they where pretty bland and tasteless! This is out first trip to Catalina Island, we really like it and we will go back, we just won't visit Eric's again!;-( read more
