Oh dear. We just arrived on the island and wanted a quick bite for lunch. We waffled between Original Antonios and Coney West. Then we noticed Eric's on the Pier. We headed over and took a look at the menu. It didnt seem any more expensive than anything else on the island so we both ordered the Island cheeseburger special. At $9.75 each, our expectations were reasonable. The food arrived and the fries were decent but the burgers were shameful. Once we started eating, we realized they were worse than they looked. Dried out buns and beef patties that were paper thin and appeared to be precooked then reheated. Nasty. Im looking forward to reviewing some better places soon. read more

DISAPPOINTMENT. My bf is a loyal customer to this place, every time he's been to Catalina he eats almost every meal here... and that was for about 4 years straight until a year ago. He even has their restaurant T-shirt because he used to love it THAT MUCH. We came to catalina last weekend and ate here twice, and this last experience really disintegrated all loyalties to Eric's. It was my first time eating here, and Eric's looks like it would be a "cheap, quick" eat, laid-back and unassuming on the pier, with outdoor chairs and a pretty direct menu... and yes, it's ridiculously overpriced... $10 for 2 fish tacos, but it's catalina so we'll put our complaints aside. The REAL disappointment is the lethargic, absolute indifference of the mind-numbingly SLOW, service for a place that is supposed to deliver easy, fast food. We placed an order for fish tacos, and they ONLY offer breaded and fried fish, no grilled fish at all. And even then, we waited AT LEAST 30 minutes for the Tacos. And when your restaurant is a food stand with open windows, you can at least look like you are trying to rush when a huge line of people are waiting for their food. But the 2 workers just dwadled around, taking their sweet time. Our Nachos, which were just pre-bagged chips that were to be doused in plastic government cheese, took them FOREVER to make. They didnt even grab our chips till 20 minutes later, and then it took them another 10 minutes to press the cheese machine. They just passed our chips around the kitchen and placed it in the back and forgot about it for a solid 10 minutes. Nachos with plastic cheese should take 30-seconds FLAT to make. Go to a Dodgers game. It was frustrating and the first experience waS horrible, but we decided to eat there again for a quick breakfast the next day, before a long day of snorkeling, just because my BF loved this place so much. This time there was NO ONE in line, so we thought the service would be a lot quicker, and yesterday must have been a fluke. After literally 30 minutes of putting in our simple order of a burrito and chilli fries, I asked the cashier if our order was ready, he said it wasn't... I thought that was strange because, even I, the most incompetent of all cooks, can wrap up some canned beans and meat into a tortilla in 30 minutes. So I watched him and realized that he didn't even BEGIN TO MAKE OR ORDER till I talked to him at the window... 30 MINUTES AFTER IT WAS PUT IN. WHILE NO ONE ELSE WAS THERE. After that, our order came out in 5 minutes. RIDICULOUS. The food is not even close to being good enough to justify that kind of wait or service. just 20 steps further down the pier, you can find DELICIOUS grilled swordfish tacos at Avalon Seafood & FIsh market for the same price. For some reason, Eric's is packed during the day, while the Seafood Market isn't as popular just because people don't walk that far down... In this case though, take my advice and if youre looking for something affordable and quick on the pier, drag your butt 2 minutes further for food and SERVICE that is WAYYYY better. read more

And yes, the onions rings may be good, but the buffalo burgers are nothing special (not bad but not exceptional). They got our order wrong twice in a row today, and they argued with us each time. Food was expensive and not good. I hated the fly infestation but I guess that's not the places fault. Had some Ice cream witch was probably the only thing I really enjoyed. Maybe they should just stick to their specialty witch I really did not know what that was since their menu contained about zillion different things. BTW their adobada tacos, Chilly Cheese fry's, clam chowder and hamburgers where not great and expensive. If you are looking for quick service, I'd recommend NOT coming here. We ordered our food and it took them almost 20 minutes to fill the order. The burritos were decent but the chips were stale and the chili cheese fries was nothing more than some beans and slightly melted cheese on stale fries. My girlfriend and I arrived at Eric's 10 minutes after closing, not knowing the place closes at 3:30pm and the guy who works there or owns the place barked at us in an overly hostile fashion; "We closed 15 minutes ago!" It was beyond rude. It was downright hostile. This guy must have been raised in a barn. He assured that we'll never eat there in the future. We went across the street to "Topless Taco" and got excellent buffalo burgers with polite service. You'd think a tourist trap would go out of its way to act civilized and friendly. high tables w/ stool seating right on the pier, good place to relax, grab a bite 'n ppl watch while u think about what u wanna do next. got the seafood combo, which seemed like a better deal since it wasn't a whole lot more $ than the fish 'n chips. their tartar sauce is tasty...on their fries, fish or shrimp. their cocktail sauce...not so much. my friend got the buffalo burger, and wasn't impressed, it was about $6 w/ standard toppings. they don't have a ton of seating, so its first come first served, and they do serve alcohol which is nice..but they also have a tight border you need to stay w/in if you're going to drink. if u have kids, it's prob best to get it 'n go eat on the beach. read more

Bf and I were super hungry right when we got off one of the tours and this was the first spot we saw. I had the buffalo burger and the BF ordered the fish n chips. What happened? This was one of my favorite spots! The beer was ice cold, the workers were friendly (i.e. Rene), Food was good, prices were reasonable, and the sites were fun to watch. Well, the beer is not cold, the workers had no personality, the quality of the food is downhill, the prices have risen but there are still sites to see. I understand Eric's has been sold? If you need a drink (soda, beer, water ). Maybe some dessert (ice cream, funnel cake, ). Then you should be fine. But dont stop for food! For what you pay you can get a nicer and tastier meal in Avalon. Me and my fiancé ordered the fish and chips. They were horrible! (I could have prepared that at home in the microwave ) . This wasn't on our list of places to eat while in Catalina. But we had little time before catching the ferry back home. This place was convenient and hit the spot with the fish tacos and fries. We ordered two orders, it came out within 15 minutes, served hot and crispy. The fish tacos were excellent, and the fries were cooked just right. Food was affordable and the staff was really nice. They changed our meal to a combo to make it more cost effective for us. Saved us a couple bucks. I know it's not a big savings but the fact they did that without asking was really nice. read more

I LOVED THE BEEF TAQUITOS. The food was pretty with plenty of cabbage and the salsa was nice and spicy. My friends got the fish tacos and loved them as well. The burgers were mediocre according to 2 guys in our party. The seating is limited. I wish they had these taquitos in a nicer restaurant, but sitting on the pier was fun.
