This place is great for a quick lunch to go after a day activity. I ordered the regular burger and lemonade average cost under $10 meal. My burger was served on a whole wheat bun and ate at the side tables on the pier. Staff counter lady was nice. There is a No Cash sign but do accept card payment or credit card plus fee. read more

The service was friendly, and it's fun to sit and eat right on the pier, but even that isn't enough to justify more than 1 star in this case (and as you can see from my reviews, I very rarely leave negative reviews). Even the sizes and shapes of the fish pieces were almost identical, and they were covered in flat, flavorless breading. The fish itself was flavorless and on the mushy side. The shrimp was okay- standard. The clams were pretty much all breading and they were tough and chewy. Even the fries were blah. This has to be the worst seafood plate I've ever had. I'll admit the food on Catalina was disappointing overall but this was the only place we ate where we thought, "Wow that was a complete waste of money." And they charge high prices! I've been a fan for years! It fulfills the four food groups: hamburger, hot dog, bacon, and cheese. If you want something quick, this is not the place. One person is taking orders and intermittently handing out food, so the line takes a long time. Beer must be finished in the white lines you can't leave with your beer (this is understandable). There aren't that many spaces to sit at so when it is packed it may be difficult to find a seat. 50 cent charge to use your credit card. Water is self serve (but tasted kind of funny if I'm honest). Although, I do have to say that In-n-Out is still still better! And cheaper! They operate as a fast food. You place your order, they give you a tent card, you wait, they will call your number and you can pick up your food. My friend ordered their frozen banana. It didn't look too fresh. Once she ordered it, the frozen banana was just about ready. The banana looked a little too rip, as well. They also offer one free refill on your soda. If you're visiting Catalina and you're looking to save a bit, then I'd recommend this place. It is quick, cheap, and the food is decent. All the tables are located outside, so you get to sit along the dock and do some people watching. read more

First time trying this place out, even though we've been to Avalon quite a few times. Mostly because our favorite ceviche place is gone.... RIP Picnic Fry. We were in a little bit of a rush on the way to the glass bottom boats, so we figured we'd just get something quick on the pier. That was problem number 1. Don't expect it to be fast. We only ordered chili fries and ceviche, and it was 20 minutes to get our food. I know that because we had ordered at 2:02 exactly, and had 3 minutes to chow our food down so we wouldn't miss the boat. That in itself probably wouldn't have turned me away from this place in the future, but it just got worse from there. We probably each at about 3 fries each before we unanimously realized that we couldn't even taste the chili. I don't even know how that is possible since it's chili beans and cheese, but it's like you can feel the texture of the chili and it really has no taste. weird to say the least. On to the ceviche. Not awesome. Can't really explain what the problem was, but it also was missing some flavor and wasn't a winner. Probably not the worst I've ever had, but far from worth trying again. Definitely a tourist trap and you will probably end up grabbing a bite here but know that there are far better choices in less than five minutes walk. Eric sits on the pier and offers a mix of American and Mexican choices. We had the chowder, hamburger, fish and chips. You would hope sitting on the water that your fish and chips would be fresh but unfortunately not. I've definitely had a much better burgers elsewhere. I have been going to Eric's on the Pier for the pat 30 years +. A freind told me there was a new owner about 10 years ago and the food went way down hill. That is an understatement! One of my favorite memories is a Rod's Combo. They changed the name to Harvey's combo, not sure why. For $14 its a hotdog/cheeseburger combo sandwich. My earliest memories as a child eating these I will never forget. They were wonderful! NOT ANYMORE! It was horrible. I am not sure what they changed meat wise, but it was so bad I could not eat more than half. There was barely any taste and they tried to drown out the flavor in mustard and onions. It breaks my heart to write this review but this is the second time (I go once a year) for the past two years and it was worse than the year before. You know those marvelous funnel cakes you can get at the county fair, piled high and fluffy with powdered sugar? Well that's not what you'll get at this food stand if you order a funnel cake. Sheesh, it tasted like they used the same styrofoam-tasting batter as they'd fry their fish with, and probably in the same oil, too :/. Eric's on the Pier is a good source of on-the-spot beverages however. This came in handy a few times as the family and I were frolicking on the nearby beach. Be sure to tell them to go light on the crushed ice, or your lemonade will be gone in three hard pulls. If you are strolling around the shore and get a sudden craving for dessert, my advice would be to skip the funnel cake and have their Thrifty brand ice cream instead. Or just go to Olaf's or Lloyd's and get their shitacular Dreyer's for three times what you'd pay on the mainland. It's your money. read more
