Cheapest beers in town! This is a chill spot in the middle of a busy part of the city. I love how inexpensive the beers are and there is a good selection. I have been here many times, so it's time for a review. My friend and I spent a half day here. Our waitress was great and attentive. There menu includes some great options. We had queso, boudin balls, and a shrimp poboy. Queso was flavorful but not quite hot enough. Boudin balls were crunchy, spicy balls of deliciousness. My shrimp were fried to perfection. The food was very good until I found a piece of glass but the server confirmed it was probably due to the packaging. They threw out the package of the rest of that food. And they took the plate off our ticket too. Otherwise the place was very cool and they have outdoor seating on second floor overlooking the area. read more

Sara is the BEST bartender ever, she made some tourists feel like locals which isn't easy to do. Sara was super knowledgeable, efficient, and made some excellent recommendations. We can't recommend her enough. Honestly this place wouldn't have had quite the same effect without her even though the food was amazing! We tried the southwest egg rolls, hot sausage po boy and the blue crab cakes and were so in LOVE with all of it! The egg rolls were light and crispy, the po boy was spicy and satisfying, the crab cakes were flavorful and had such a good consistency. Cheap drinks too, highly recommend the Fulton Freeze which is basically a frozen Irish coffee. Easily some of the best food we have had in this trip and we will definitely be back for more! Walking distance from our hotel by the convention center too! I can't say enough good about this place, if you like hole in the wall places this one's for you! read more

I'll start by saying we came in during the lunch rush with several other convention folks. We had to wait nearly 30 minutes to even get our drink orders taken, and then when we were finally allowed to order our food we were told that there was no fish or shrimp available to order because it was still thawing out. Our waitress forgot to put in one of our orders and two of us had to wait while the others ate. Once the forgotten order came out it was wrong anyway. Came on Mardi Gras, and were lucky enough to get a table outside! It was a gorgeous day, and we loved people watching. The beers were a great deal- ranging from $1.25-3.25 for ice cold bottles! Since they were busy, they would pause food orders until the kitchen caught up, so we did have to wait a second to order, but that is to be expected on such a busy day! You know Mardi Gras is going to be busy. If you are understaffed, don't open upstairs. Half our order was sent out 20 minutes before the other off. We had 2 orders of gumbo that came out 20 minutes apart red beans and rice had completely uncooked rice and was inedible. Average burger food. We came on Thursday afternoon to grab a burger and fries. We selected the Ernst Burger which is a basic burger that allows you to add all the fixings with waffle fries for $20. The burger wasn't anything spectacular. It was served on a semi-hard brioche bun, and I'm pretty sure some of our waffle fries were missing as I've received more fries in a small serving at Chick Fil A. I kind of loved Ernst Café. It was like this well hidden gem that wasn't too far from my hotel. I mean it just kind of blends in with the surroundings and you don't know it's really there. Kind of feels like a neighborhood spot more than anything. Ok, first, let's talk about the building. When I came in here I was floored by the floor. You see it, you are like 'what!' But don't let your mind play tricks on you, it's not what you think it is. They even have a plaque on the wall that explains why the flooring is how it is, and the meaning behind the pattern. It's not a bad thing, but, if you will, when you are in here educate yourself by reading the plaque before jumping to conclusion. As for the menu, amazing. I came here for a work lunch, we ate while we talked about what our vision was moving forward. Thank god that talk wasn't long as it let me focus on my meal. I went with the Urban Cowboy Burger. Any burger on their menu comes with a side of either waffle fries, jalapeno coleslaw, or house salad. I, being one with the potato, went with waffle fries. The burger is that of the Angus beef variety, it comes topped with applewood bacon, cheddar, grilled onions, and a smoky barbecue sauce. Put all that between a brioche bun and you got yourself one messy, fillings falling out burger. I do have to say, I was a bit on the fence when it stated it had grilled onions on it. I'm not a fan of grilled onions, but the way it married with everything else on the burger you hardly noticed them. Especially when you get that lettuce, tomato, and pickle added into the mix. The waffle fries come off as your typical fries. No seasoning, just salt, but extra easy to get as much ketchup on them as you could. Service, iffy at times. When we put our drink orders in I had ordered a sweet tea, I can't remember what everyone else ordered. But when our drinks arrived at the table, I didn't get a sweet tea. It was either water or unsweetened tea. It was hard to tell since the cups were dark and the place was dark (it was stormy outside). I wasn't the only one that got the wrong drink, everyone at the table ended up with something completely different than what they ordered. I let our server know and she started correcting the drink order. Did she succeed? No. I ended up with basically another cup of whatever was brought to me before. At that point I was over it and decided I would suffer through it until I got somewhere to get a sweet tea. The service throughout the rest of the meal was a bit iffy as well. When the orders were ready they were kind of handed out to the wrong people. We waited until our server left the table and traded plates until it was right. But, overall a good experience. The food overshadowed the service for sure. read more

You might as well go inside and buy your own drinks. The prices are good here but the wait staff is almost impossible to deal with for food and drinks. Derrick gave us top notch service. The macaroni and cheese was fabulous. It had a wonderful New Orleans vibe.

Ordered through their website, order was canceled without delivery or refund 3 hours later. I called the restaurant at least 10 times over 3 days to get someone to pick up, they have a voice mailbox that no one seemed to be checking. When I finally got the manager on the phone, she said I had to email their corporate office for a refund. It's been almost a week and no one has emailed me back yet. I was also told to try to get a refund through door dash, but they don't have you order through the app, so it's a weird variation of their service, and they direct all communication to Ernst Cafe. 6 or more door dashers attempted to pick up this order, and all canceled when they arrived at the cafe. Not sure why, but clearly there was some issue they didn't think it was worth it to deal with. I will file this under the absolute nightmare category, with zero recourse to get my money back. Someone said I should file a police report since I have their cancelation notice without a refund. They really want to give you the impression that this is all your fault for ordering food from them, I honestly don't understand who runs a business like this. I had one of my worst dining experiences ever. The restaurant was just a basic building with a few cheap tables and chairs. There was no table service; you had to order your food at the bar, and the bartender, who seemed to be multitasking, took our order, and someone else delivered it. I ordered chicken Jambalaya, which arrived cold and included two whole pieces of chicken breast, dirty rice, and a spoon. Everyone at my table said their food was cold as well. Great welcoming environment. The food was not overly seasoned and it was served at the right temperature. And the beers were served ice cold. Our server was wonderful and tentative. We discovered this establishment on our way to our hotel. It was our first time in Nola and the humidity was crazy. The good air conditioning and beer specials made us stop.
