Veggie fajitas
Kait S.

A homey Mexican restaurant with lovely staff in a beautiful location. I have only been once but my partner has been going sporadically over the past decade. Both their veggie fajitas and cheese enchiladas are great. There is also such a feeling of community while inside. I don't know why yelp says it's permanently closed. I went 1/18/26 and it was open.

I had the ground beef taco salad which was good, my husband had the ground beef taco, which was good as well. The salsa that comes with the chips was delicious, great flavor. Service was outstanding! It was a nice day so we sat outside on the patio. Nice atmosphere, we will go back!

Good portions, tasty food, really great service. Stopped by for dinner as it was walking distance from my hotel. Asked for a recommendation and was given number 5 with one item each of 3 different meats: clocked, pork and shredded beef. I think I liked the pork more than the other two personally. Going back I might try ground beef and the asada.

Went for the chili Relleno this weekend but got the taco salad with chicken instead. It was good but not as good as the chili Relleno. Loved the crispy shell. As always the service was excellent and the salsa is good enough to drink. I got pics this time, but only after I deconstructed the salad.

Carne Asada Burrito !! So good.

This is one of the few places open on a Sunday night in Kanab. When my wife and I arrived, around 5:30, it was spent getting busy. We had to wait 10-15 minutes to get seated. I ordered the plain carne asada (steak) burrito and the wife got the carnitas plate. Both were exceptional! I have eaten Mexican food all over the US and a few other countries and that has to be one of the best burritos I've ever eaten! My wife really enjoyed her plate too! The staff were very friendly and busting their butts to try to keep up. They were friendly and quick to bring us what we needed. My suggestion to them is to wait for the customer to finish speaking before running off. Would have saved them a few trips. I like that they already have a large carafe of ice water and delicious chips and salsa waiting for you when you are seated!!

Steak Chimichanga enchilada style with side of refried beans and rice

As others mentioned, one of the few places open on Sunday nights, unfortunately they are closed on Saturday's, but a decent trade off. We have been here a couple times now, and the place is consistent in a lot of ways! Family run, they have a small dining area and some large tables outside in a covered area. Parties over 4 need to eat out there unless the middle tables inside can be moved together. They are always on a wait pr packed, and do a ton of to go orders. The service is the only knock on this place and a small one. If you need something, you need to flag someone down as they tend to not come back to tables. Unfortunate, but is what it is. Steak chimichanga is my go to and they stuff it with beans, lettuce, and red enchilada sauce baked into the shell. It crunches like a cracker. The side of refried beans are money with a thin layer then melted cheese on top. The rice is the best, hands down...do bot skip the rice!! The chili verde tostado was also spot on, as anything is in green sauce out west!! See you next time my friends!

Ran in from the pouring rain!! Umbrella set aside to drip away from others.. thanks for that suggestion! Delicious chips and salsa. Fish taco and cheese enchilada washed down with Mexican beer. My tostada with guacamole was fantastic! Also had a side of refried beans. Love this place! Always eat here when in the area! Thank you for great food and service!!!

Eating my beef tostada was more challenging than I expected, lol.

Delicious food with excellent service. We couldn't believe how quick they were to serve us our meals. Really good and authentic Mexican food, would go back the next time I'm in town. Loved that my food was great the next morning, I even enjoyed eating it cold.

Veggie burrito

I love this place especially after a long hike. The taco salad and the veggie burrito are so good. The chips and salsa are always perfect. I wish they had caffeine free diet soda but that's ok. Sometimes there is a wait but the folks here are so kind I don't mind. On a very busy day parking can be tough but I've never not found a spot. Price is pretty good and they give you so much food!! The service is fast once you're seay s and there are clean restrooms. Easily my favorite burrito in Utah :)

Carne Asada Grilled Steak Plate - So good! Better than previous restaurant I tried this at.

From the outside, the restaurant looks like a 'sit down and be served' place, however, it is ran like a fast food restaurant. Whereas, you go up and order at the counter, and the very busy cashier, server, order taker, takes your money, and eventually will bring your food out. We lucked out and there was no one at the counter when we walked in. However, by the time we left, there was a long line waiting to order, probably about 20 minutes just to order. I only saw one cook in the back, but there may have been someone else. The food was remarkably very good. Also, this is Utah, so expect the 'third degree' and a caution to not take your beer outside should you choose to have a beer with your dinner. They ID everyone if you order a beer. You have to do your own bussing, and be prepared to sit down at a table that has not been wiped down. They need a larger staff in my view. I will probably not return as Kanab as several other options for dinning.

The guy at the register was helpful in a genuine way- poor dude is sporting a shoulder injury, but didn't slow him down. I got the Cuban steak plate with the grilled onions, which was amazing! Only complaint is the beans were more liquid than beans, but there are never enough beans for me and they were flavorful. I poured the sauce on my rice and ate every bite. The tres leches is beyond amazing though! It's soaked, but not soggy with cinnamon on top. I got it to go and gave my boyfriend exactly one bite then claimed it all for myself. They also have a pay it forward wall where you can give an amount of money for people experiencing a hard time. While I was there someone came in asking to wash dishes for some food and the register guy made sure he saw the cards and got fed. That is something special for this business to not only not look over those in need, but go out of their way to take care of them. It really says a lot about the kindness of owners and employees.

I didn't expect to see Cuban food in the middle of Utah, yet here we are. Grab a menu from the counter and have a seat or just order. Between the four of us we had: 1. Cuban Pork plate - tender pieces of roasted pork with rice and black beans. 2. The Smothered Burrito - a stuffed burrito covered with cheats sauce. My buddy had this and ate it heartily. The only comment I received from him was that it was very good. 3. Steak sandwiches- Slices of tender sirloin steak, wrapped in deliciousness. 4. I had the double western cheese burger. Two patties, cheese, bacon and an onion ring. It was very good but a little over cooked for me. All in all we enjoyed the location, the service was very helpful and attentive. Find yourself in Kanab, try them out. Michael C. - Georgetown, Tx.

The waitress explained that their menu switches over to lunch at 11:30. That's certainly one of the latest I've ever seen! At any rate, we were happy to wait the extra 10-15 minute wait for the kitchen switchover. At this point the place wasn't too crowded at all all, and just as promised, we were able to place our order at 11:40. Garlic Burger ($18) - This is a huge plate of food with a mound of fries and one gigantic burger. The burger starts with a soft bun, lightly toasted on both sides, which is then piled up with onion and plenty of piquant pickles, making the burger extra tangy. There's a weak creamy mayo/mustard mixture that soaks the veggies, followed by a giant half pound burger patty on top. It's slightly pink in the center, but is somehow dry. It doesn't have much of a grilled/char flavor, nor much of a beefy flavor either. The patty is large but disappointing in flavor and execution. There's a pitiful spoonful of garlic on top of the patty. It such a small amount it's almost indistinguishable in flavor and texture - in fact, I didn't even know there was any garlic until I deconstructed the burger. That's a very poor showing for a burger with "garlic" in the name. On top of the garlic is a thick slice of melted cheese, more mayo/mustard, a small bed of shredded lettuce (complete with shreds falling out all over even before being brought to our table), and a couple of tomato slices. There's plenty of mayo/mustard sauce for the sandwich, enough to overcome how dry the meat is. The sandwich comes with a choice of regular or sweet potato fries, of which we went with the former. They are standard food service battered fries, not fried long enough to give any coloring to the exterior, making them extra pale and soft. We asked for a side of fry sauce which we found to be thin, watery, and drippy. (2/5) Pork Tamales ($22) - This dish comes with a side salad, which came immediately to the table. It's a pretty large portion for a side salad and includes plenty of romaine, full cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, charred corn, olives, and a pile of shredded carrot in an extremely tangy and slightly sweet dressing. The dressing is both way too acidic and way too watery for my tastes. It's so overdressed that a large puddle of dressing remained after finishing the salad. The tamales aren't very good either. They are doused in a green chile sauce that's only added after being blasted in whatever cooking appliance they use. The masa feels woefully under-steamed. It's quite coarse in texture and is hard, dry, and crumbly. It's so hard it's almost crunchy. The tamales seem to be pan fried on both sides, or perhaps broiled in a salamander for far too long. The green chile inside isn't even that flavorful, making the tamales a bland disappointment. There's a bed of shredded pork underneath the two tamales. The pork is not as far gone as the tamales. It's a little stringy and dry, but still retains at least a minimum amount of moisture. The pork has a pleasing pink/red tinge, but isn't smoky whatsoever. The overall profile doesn't display much in terms of spices, and the flavor of the pork itself isn't my favorite. I have a feeling that this is microwaved food service pork rather than being made in house. On top of everything is a chile verde sauce. It's again not that flavorful, with more acidity than anything else. There's absolutely zero heat - it's one of the most mild green chile sauces I've had. I feel like the dish could be improved a little if they simmered the pork in the green chile to help layer the flavors more. Unfortunately they are clearly cooked and assembled in a modular manner to save on ingredient cost. On the side is brown rice, actually cooked with green chile, and tender black beans that are appropriately salted. (2/5) Tip: If most people are sitting on the patio, I recommend not asking for an indoor seat. We were basically ignored by the waitress after we got our food since we were the only customers sitting inside. Also, get here earlier for fastest seating. By the time we left half past noon, the place was bustling with the entire patio being full of patrons. Oscar's Cafe serves huge portions with mediocre to bad quality. It's definitely a quantity over quality type of place and seems to be catered towards people who are scared of flavor and spices. I certainly would not return. Bathrooms - Single unisex room in the restaurant itself, but there are more in the mercantile area.
