We loved Escobars so much we dined there twice while in town camping at Dark Sky. The food was incredible! Coming from Southern California, we often are harsher critics of Mexican food and were so impressed with the flavors of our dishes here. The owner was really fun and we loved talking with her. Dinner here was alright. Waitress was snarky, maybe she was trying to be funny but it came across as rude. The restaurant is small but they do have outdoor seating which may be nice when it's less hot out. Enchilada sauce is like salsa here: large chunks of tomatoes and onions, very runny and no spice or seasonings. Did not enjoy the relleno at all, it was mushy and came with the enchilada sauce. Was told the only thing offered in the combos was a verde burrito with pork which seemed strange to me but it was good and I'd definitely order it again! Husband ordered the carnitas and it only tasted like one spice and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Cinnamon? Cloves? Something both warming and overpowering. It was very tender though. They have so many recommendations on the menu and so many options for different types of people that it's hard to pinpoint one thing. We did get told that the fish and shrimp tacos are one of the best there. However, we opted to get for a combination of the vegetarian and shrimp fajitas. Rosa graciously allowed us to swap one of the meets for extra veggies in the combo. Rosa even threw in a few extra tortillas for us. This $20 dish was more than enough food for two people. As soon as it came out, we could tell that the vegetables and shrimp had come straight from the heart to link pan and the food tasted super fresh and flavorful. Also came with a variety of different sauces that you could add on. Bathroom is also surprisingly really clean as well as the utensils. We also got chips and salsa with were complimentary. This is such a great little restaurant. It is always packed. The people here are amazing. The first thing I always judge in a Mexican restaurant is the chips and salsa. And these live up to the hype. They're so good I try not to fill up on them so I don't ruin my meal. My go to order is the green sauce enchiladas. Those are usually only one day a week but if you request them, they will do it for you which I think is amazing. This is the best Mexican restaurant in Utah. Yes, it's better than Red Iguana (the SLC fave). We've tried several items on the menu, but our go to is always the enchiladas. The house salsa is super garlicky and the perfect amount of spicy for those of us with slightly weak mouths. Since it's so good they are often busy, but Rosa runs a tight ship and service is always as fast as possible. We ate there the other day, they were packed they quoted us a 25 to 35 minute wait, she took my phone number down so she could call us so we wouldn't have to stand in the small lobby. We almost went somewhere else but we decided we would wait and we sure are glad we did my husband had a number one which was a Chile Riano, enchilada and a taco and it was excellent I had a chicken taco à la cart the portions were big and their food was Full of flavor! Our server was good and check out us often. We will definitely go back if we are ever in Kanab! Very good service. If you go on a Sunday night or other busy time, drop by and get on their wait list. It took 45 minutes for us to get in but their wait list app was right on the money. Food was good: Avocado, chicken tostada was a "chicken dinner winner!" Table salsa was so tasty. NO MARGARITAS! Oouch but I drink too much anyway. They did have beer. My friends and I had a great experience at Escobar's while staying in Kanab. We found the restaurant on Yelp and walked up to a large dinner crowd, but were seated in a timely manner with a friendly greeting from the woman who owns the restaurant. She was so friendly and attentive, offering us hot salsa and even ensuring my meal was dairy-free when I requested no sour cream with my chicken fajita plate. The chicken fajita plate was seasoned so well; the chicken was tender, the tortillas were fresh. It was one of the best fajita plates I have ever had! Great great great! Food is super wonderful. Best Chile Relono ever! Carne Asada is honestly the best steak I have ever had in a Mexican restaurant!! This establishment is the best family restaurant around. But, they're lacking something,. It's just seems like the seating and greeting situation is very disjointed. We Had a very hard time with take out. Getting takeout shouldn't be that hard in the age of Covid. It is really difficult and awkward. You stand behind the empty hostess stand waiting for a long time. People think you work there. I saw and experienced it a few times in one super crowded night. When you come in, often times, there's no one there to greet the customers . Customers have to wait in a very small breezeway without any sort of notification system. People are are afraid to wait outside, because you don't trust the system of them notifying you. Food is absolutely off the charts and Service is usually pretty darn good.
