Visited here as we wanted to try an authentic Mexican restaurant while in Arizona/Utah, as I've heard they're really good. I had Chile Verde burrito, the pork was well cooked and soft. The green gravy blended very well, but I could use a little less cheese, as the burrito stuffing became too flowy. Horchata was the popular drink at the place and it tasted great. A must try for first timers. Their homemade chips were crisp and less oily compared to other Mexican places I've tried. I almost filled myself up with them before our food arrived. I will always make it a point to come and eat here when I'm in Kanab. I don't care how long the wait is because that's how good this food is! We waited around 45 minutes on a Friday night around 7 PM. So be ready for a wait, but I promise, it's worth it. I usually order the enchilada plate, but we decided to also try the quesadilla as well. My friend and I split both items and they were just beyond delicious. The quesadilla was super thick and full of cheese and Carne Asada. My favorite is the sauce that they use for the enchiladas and I really love the beans. I do prefer them over the rice. It's a very busy environment and you just gotta be patient with the service. It's good service, but please be patient because they are beyond busy most of the time. read more

Our tour guide told us to check this place out and what a great recommendation. All the food was good. Rice and beans were better than back home in SoCal. The enchiladas and burritos were on point. Our guide on a kayaking trip to Antelope Canyon highly recommended this place when he heard we'd be going to Kanab. I agree with his statement that their salsa is some of the best anywhere, just the right amount of kick, not at all overpowering! We started with a basket of complimentary chips with that delicious salsa. I ordered a shrimp with mushrooms dinner. It came with a nice portion of shrimp, lots of garlic mushrooms, rice, refried beans, and dollops of guac and sour cream. Of course tortillas as well, flour or corn. My husband had a combo dinner that he enjoyed. Lots of delicious food! Service was fast and efficient, servers friendly and helpful. After chit chatting with a couple locals, we heard that Escobar's Mexican Restaurant is a fantastic place for Mexican food in Kanab, UT and made a mental note. Post-adventure after hiking The Wave, my family and friends were starving, remembered Escobar's mentioned by the locals and decided to headed on over. Rosa was our server and she was friendly, attentive and amazing. She checked on us frequently and accommodated our group of 6 with request of separate checks with no issues or attitude. Our orders was served in a timely manner too, for the restaurant being moderately busy. I ordered the Carne Asada with Shrimp $17.99, which came with a side of rice and beans. Asada was tender with good seasoning. Shrimp prepared well and not chewy. Good portion size for the price one pays. Free chips and salsa -love the chips here. Indoor and outdoor seating available, we sat outside. Free parking lot. Escobar's serves beer. Arrived to a 15 minute wait. Ok, this tells us place is popular. We don't mind the wait. We get seated and orders are placed. Nothing exotic, standard off the menu. So far so good. Then we wait and wait. Waitress never returns. She is still waiting other tables. Other tables get served that have arrived after us. After close to an hour, Basically entire area has turned over. We flag down who we assume is manager. Manager says she will check on order. She comes back 5 minutes later and states "food is in the oven". What does that mean? Reheat? Redo? Who knows? Our waitress who is still working never returns to our table. At this point patience is gone and not confident what will be on our plate, if and when it arrives. Throw cash on table for my drink and leave. Not a pleasant experience. One star is generous. read more

Listen, this is mexican food in Utah, not California or Arizona. It's really pretty good for what it is. We showed up for lunch about a half hour after they opened on a Monday and the place was already packed. We sat at a table outside and a bus girl brought us out cups and pitchers of ice water. After about 5 minutes no one had brought us out menus so my husband had to get up and ask for them. Another lady takes our order and brings us chips and salsa. We ordered 2 kids meals, a wet carne asada burrito and a dinner combo plate with a shredded beef taco, shredded beef enchilada, chile verde burrito and rice and beans. Normally the dinner plates come with a dalop of sour cream on the side and this did not so I had to ask for some on the side. The servers were all very nice, even the timid young bus girl/waitress who looked like she was training. The food was decent. We also ordered a deep fried cream to go that they didn't put into a to go box until being reminded for the 3rd time. It also took a long time for them to get us our check so we ended up having to to and ask for that a second time as well. My reason for the missing star is the outdoors is gross. Apparently they allow dogs because there was a dog bowl filled with disgusting water next to our table that my toddler ended up dumping out before we saw it was there. It's also right next to the side or the road so cars and semis are flying by and kicking up dust and debris all over you and your food. Any time a car went by it brought a gust of wind that sent dog hair flying all over us. Absolutely disgusting. They need to set up at least a shade screen along the outdoor patio wall to protect its patrons and get rid of allowing dogs there. At the very least they need to dump the dog bowls and sweep up after they leave. read more

Good option for Mexican, we stopped on our trek from Vegas to Page. They were very popular/busy on a Sunday afternoon. The bean and cheese burrito (enchilada style) is massive and can easily be shared by 2 people. The beans are flavorful and enchilada sauce was tasty. It's not a large place, there is only eight booths inside, with three tables & outside dining too, so this popular place fills up quickly. We got there just as it opened & it was already filling up. Luckily, we were seated in a booth for two. Right away a pitcher of ice water, glasses, chip & salsa were placed in front of us. Our waitress, Rosa, came over, went over the menu & patently answered our questions. I ordered the beef tacos & beef enchiladas, while the Mrs went with a chili relleno & a cheese enchilada. Of course, they both come with beans & rice. Both our meals were excellent. Tons of flavor & if we lived in this area, I'm sure we would be here regularly. The only complaint we have..... Wow! What a surprise to find a great authentic tasting Mexican restaurant in Kanab, Utah. The staff were really friendly and inviting. We got there at the perfect time and got seated almost immediately. Which was great because shortly after being seated there was a long line of Individuals waiting to be seated. You can tell this is the spot for the locals to eat Mexican food. Not much of an ambiance but to be quite honest it's not needed when you have tasty food. However, the patio looked pretty cozy. I had the carne asada plate and a coke to wash it down. The steak was a pretty big piece and so flavorful, served with a light fluffy rice and delicious refried beans topped with cheese and guacamole. My boyfriend had the carne asada burrito enchilada style with a side of beans. The sauce on his burrito was fantastic. We loved the fact that they served us a complimentary chips and salsa which I am accustomed to from an authentic Mexican restaurant. I loved this restaurant before I was vegan years ago. My sister took me on a road trip through here and I really wanted to relive the memory of ordering food and taking a walk in the neighboring cemetery while we waited for the food. I forgot how cozy the inside of the restaurant is, as well as the shaded and walled outdoor seating. I asked if they had vegan options or if they had lard in the beans. The woman I talked to assured me that they did non use lard or chicken stock and that I could get a vegan meat by removing the cheese and sour cream from the vegetarian burrito, or removing the animal products from the fajita. I chose the burrito. We were told a 15 min wait but had to come back a few minutes early for the restroom, but the burrito was all ready to go! It tasted fresh and delicious and was very satisfying! The red sauce on top tasted better than most soups I've eaten haha! read more

We liked Escobar's a lot. Rossa (boss lady) seated us as quickly as she could, but the place was already about maxed out when we got there at about 5:30 PM. This town dines early! Waited about 15 minutes, and got a booth inside, which was good because it was a bit windy that evening. Out on the patio would have been nice under better conditions. We both ordered the same meal (verde burrito with a chicken enchilada). Took quite a while for the food to come out, but understandable given the size of the kitchen and the small amount of help. I felt the verde was a little watery, but it did have good flavor. The chicken enchilada was good, and the platter was really filled with refried beans and a good helping of rice. The chips and salsa were good too, btw, and Rossa and crew are very busy and very efficient. All in all, we liked Escobar's and will return when we're back in Kanab. By the way, they're closed on Tuesdays and Saturdays. read more

Escobar's was great! It was pretty busy when we got there but we were able to have our order taken prior to sitting down so our food could be sent to the kitchen ASAP. This is popular restaurant especially is Tuesday because many restaurants close that day. Restaurant at Tuesday is limited. The wait for the table is one hour. I recommend if you visit Kanab on Tuesday need to make restaurant reservations. We got the Carne Asada and Chile Verde or Colorado. The carne Asada is a skirt steak with thicker meat. The marinated is good. Tasty. Come with rice and fried bean. The food is good. My wife Chile Verde or Colorado is a red sauce with Mexican flavor. The dish have chunky pork. The portion is good. I am guessing after one hour of wait, any food taste good because you already hungry. The pre-meal includes chip and salsa. It was good. We also got the horchata. Drove through Kanab, UT after the Mystical Antelope Canyon Tour (awesome tour!) and stopped here for dinner. They were efficient, friendly, and the food was good and large portions. We had the enchiladas, chili relleno, cheese quesadillas, super quesadillas, veggie burrito, shrimp fajitas, and veggie fajitas. Everything was good! Our table was commenting how the food wasn't greasy nor too salty. The salsa tasted fresh and mild for the entire family to enjoy. We were pleasantly surprised by the non alcoholic Corona and also Corona Light options, they even brought out chilled glasses (it was plastic but still a nice touch). A must stop! We were here a few years ago and loved it! We were going to pass through Kanab to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. On purpose, we booked a night at Crazy Horse RV Park so we could cruise over to Escobar's! I did not disappoint! I don't need to do marketing for them. The food is amazing and the line proves it. Called in an order to be picked I and was greeted with a pleasant young lady whom answered the phone and was more than helpful with any questions I had regarding the menu. They do have a small outside patio that is dog friendly , and dining inside but limited due to covid 19. We ordered a chimichanga with pork , with refried beans and rice and a carne Asada burrito with beans and refried beans as well. This was an OK experience. Like others here have mentioned service was slow. It appeared they were short on staff. After placing our order the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. My chili relleno was hot and fresh. Initially the taste was good but as I got further into it the taste of chili powder over powered the flavor of everything else on the plate. This is hands down the best and most authentic Mexican food I've ever had, and the only possible downside is that once you eat here nothing else will come close. The waitstaff is also some of the best I've ever encountered make the whole experience even better, if that's even possible.
