Went to the Escobar's restaurant for a quick dinner post our hike today. Needless to say, the experience overall was great. The staff greeted us and were very friendly to everyone. The environment was very nice for a restaurant. I got the shrimp tacos meal that comes with the rice and beans on the side. Overall, the tacos weee good. I do wish they could have given us the option of grilled or fried tacos. read more

Excellent Mexican food in Kanab Utah!! We went on a Thursday night @ 5:00 and the place was a buzzin. Very very friendly staff looks like a family owned and operated business!! The lil woman had her Taco salad it was in a taco shell thing and I had the fish tacos!! But we're excellent the fish tacos are crunchy which I like better. Stopped in for lunch while in town for some sightseeing. This place is pretty small and very casual. The food and service were fantastic! We were promptly greeted and seateed when we walked in. Chips and salsa were brought with some water. I judge Mexican restaurants by their s and salsa. This place knocked it out of the park! The chips fresh, warm and perfectly salted. I think they were homemade? I really should have asked. The salsa was so flavorful! Perfectly garlicky and spicy. We went through two baskets of their chips and four bowls of salsa. Oink! Seriously this stuff was fire!!! I ordered the guacamole chicken tostada from their lunch specials. It was piled so high I was unsure of how to best approach it. I ended up using my hands and breaking off big yummy pieces. Well after I added more of magical salsa to everything. Even the rice and beans were tasty. My son and sister ordered burritos, beef and pork. My sisters was tipped in a verde sauce that was delicious and spicy! My sons beefy burrito was quite tasty as well. Service was casual and friendly. Wow what an unexpected surprise from this town. Just came from Vegas having the worst Mexican food to this tiny hole in the wall restaurant where amazing choices of food so authentic and cheap ... a must go to place I ordered a tostada/cheese enchilada combo $12.50 everything was perfect, 2 other plates in my part were authentic as well don't let this place escape you if in the area a must stop. It brings in the crowd has outside patio for summer nights. And very welcoming service. read more

But we had to wait close to an hour to be seated (longer than we were told when we arrived) and the food (chips, salsa, chalupa) just didn't live up to the hype, especially given the prices. It was a nice portion size, but rather bland. Giving these folks a big shout out for being good food and having a great hustle and bustle vibe. We stopped in after a long day going to Coyote Butte South. Had to wait and had some trepidation when seeing the smallish dining space and seeing the typical sorry for the slow service, can't hire anybody due to Covid sign at the front counter. However, they moved people through quickly and it was not too long before we realized that most of the customers were locals, always a good sign. Watching the staff move through the place was a poetry in motion, never a wasted movement! Our dinners were solid fare and hit the spot. Good job Escobars! read more

If there is a line, the food is not worth a long wait! The service, when they can get to you, is super friendly, and funny:). Taco salad-blah, the meat was ok quality, but the rest was just ok. Beans-ok Rice-just ok We were really excited to try this restaurant after seeing how busy they get snd the reviews I read, but it's not as good as anything i read. Of course, this is all my opinion (and my family's). This is Kanab, so there are not many Mexican resturant a! And maybe their salads and enchiladas aren't their specialty, try something else:). The staff is really friendly, but they are understaffed. The table next to us sat fully of food and dirty plates waiting to be cleaned up (for over 30 minutes). Stopped here for dinner. Our server knew what was/could be made vegetarian so ordering was a breeze. We ordered veggie fajitas and a combo plate with chili relleno, enchilada and burrito. A vegetarian version of this combo is not on the menu but they made it anyways with cheese enchilada and bean burrito smothered with enchilada sauce. Enchilada sauce is the only sauce that's vegetarian. Would have loved to have more vegetarian sauce options. Anyways we were quite happy with the food and left with a full tummy. I'm from Texas, which automatically makes me a snob about Mexican food. My Goddaughter was raised by her step-father's Mexican family. That makes her very hard to impress. The very thought of a decent Mexican restaurant in Southern Utah made us laugh. We only stopped in because everything else in town closed at 9. We were wrong. It wasn't decent. It was GREAT! My Goddaughter was almost weeping as she ate her carne asada. She's someone who never finishes her plate. She did tonight! My chimichanga was great too! I asked to speak to the owner, Rosa, to gush about how much we loved the food. Even though she was busy, she still took the time to speak with us about how the restaurant got started and how it had been a family affair for many years. I ordered a chile relleno, a chicken enchilada, *and* (lol) a pork Colorado burrito combination plate - all combos also include rice and beans! This food eats surprisingly light, not heavy or greasy, and the red and green chile sauces are flavorful and fresh tasting. Friendly service, too. I called ahead to order on a long road trip back. The phone was answered without "hello" but "we do not do take out orders". That's fine. I called back to see if I could get a reservation and they answered the same way and also said no reservations. We decided to show up and wait. While waiting for our food, we heard them take multiple to go orders and make reservations.... Unsure what is happening there, but would have given more stars if the food was worth the wait. The redeeming quality was one waitress that basically is the reason anything gets done. Would not go back and would go to comalitos nearby instead. read more
