During one of my road bike cycling adventures, I climbed up to Makawao from Paia. On my way to Makawao, I biked through terrible weather as a strong storm front blew through the islands. Once I made it to town, I ended my ride at Espresso Mafia. This place is AWESOME! I loved the friendly vibes from the workers (and I think one of the people I interacted with was the owner.) While waiting for my family to rescue me from the weather, I grabbed a lovely Cappuccino and chilled out inside. Everything from the music, coffee, and pastries was stellar! We came to this place completely by chance! The bakery we were hoping to go to was closed for the month and my husband was in desperate need of coffee. We read the reviews and decided this was the spot. He ordered his usual coffee and the rest of us ordered oat milk chais and a hot chocolate for our toddler. Chai was yummy and spicy, just how I enjoy it. We loved the look and vibe, and there friendliness of the guys working the counter. Funny enough, my husband and the owner realized they knew each other from his gym we frequent when we're here every other year. We're obviously big fans of all their business ventures! Espresso Martini had amazing service, drinks, and aesthetics. I had the Honey Cream Latte (soy) and a taste of the Ube Latte. The honey cream has a sweet foam layered on top of smooth coffee. I'd add an extra shot of espresso for more coffee taste, this drink is on the sweeter side, but still delicious. The Ube latte had more coffee and undertones of coconut and ube. Both drinks priced fairly with about 12 oz served for $7! The staff, wife and husband operated were busy, but still made time to make small talk. They seemed to really know their community and would welcome back regular customers on a first name basis! read more

From their business name to their chic, custom built coffee trailer, this little coffee spot at the Makawao Marketplace has got it going on! I peeped their menu as I walked by and I do love me some coffee. One of their drink specials, Christmas Cookie, immediately caught my eye. Cookie butter syrup, italian espresso, vanilla bean, cookie crumble topping.... you had be at cookie butter syrup! 'Tis the season after all and I've never seen that on any menu before. Being down for always trying something new and will take any excuse to get in the holiday spirit, I snagged a cup! The midday sun started making an appearance so instead of the latte form, I asked if it could be made blended or iced. The blender is still in the works (they just opened a little over a month ago), but he was happy to shake it up and put it on ice. Got our drinks shortly thereafter and we were pleasantly surprised. They were delish. My other half never is more of an iced chai latte kinda guy, but he actually really enjoyed his iced mocha and I my Christmas Cookie. It definitely tasted like a cookie, but not overwhelming and I didn't feel like sugar or anything else needed to be added. It was perfect as is. They also have a limited selection of 'eats' on their menu like sandwiches, fresh baked sticky buns, and Nana's banana bread. Not to mention, their customer service is totally on point. The owner is super friendly and we chatted a bit about their trailer, the Thai food across the way, etc. Always great to see! Loved discovering this coffee upcountry and will definitely be back for more in the future, especially when I'm in the mood for Italian espresso ;) read more

We had to wait a few minutes while a backup espresso machine was installed but so worth the wait! I had the Kona drip coffee finally experiencing real Hawaian coffee simply delicious and strong! And wonderful! My wife had one of the best cappuccinos in her life. The barista (I think the owner) is highly personable and the shop very comfortable with table seating. We were the first customers this morning but shortly after nice line of locals who obviously know and love this place. A must stop along with the Komodo bakery up the block. I appreciate that this coffee truck had some unique offerings and homemade syrups. I am a fan of dark roast coffees though, and on Maui they are few and far between. The lighter roast espresso was not terrible, but also didn't hit the spot for me. My brother very much enjoyed his lavender latte though.
