sausage egg and cheese on everything is always the move - hearty size and the bagel was great! Need to try the lox next time and maybe the black and white cookies! Very friendly staff Cheers!

Pumpernickel raisin bagel w/ raisin walnut tofu
    Dana S.

Life-changing bagel, barely an exaggeration. I got a pumpernickel raisin bagel with raisin walnut tofu spread. It was a huge bagel with a generous spread of tofu. The bagel was tender and fluffy, and it was the strongest pumpernickel bagel I've ever had - it was so dark it was almost black. The tofu spread was also delicious. I'm sure a sweet tofu spread might sound weird to some people, but this didn't have a "beany" taste at all. I got there around 8 am and there was actually no line, so I was in and out with warm bagel in hand very quickly.

    Kick sandwich on sesame bagel

SERVICE - located very close to Stuytown - expect a line, especially during peak hours - indoor and outdoor seating available - bagel sandwiches made fresh to order and quickly - cashier was very friendly MENU - classic bagel store - vegan options available - well priced FOOD - KICK sandwich on sesame bagel (9/10): vegan chickpea based chipotle cream cheese, avocado, onion, olives, and cucumber on a toasted sesame bagel. This vegan cream cheese was probably the best one I have ever tried. The texture was identical to regular cream cheese and had the slight tang from the fermentation. The only thing I would have added is either some lettuce or spinach but otherwise a very tasty sandwich. - veggie tofu spread on everything bagel (8/10): this sandwich was stuffed so full of tofu spread I could not even fit it into my mouth. The tofu spread was not as creamy as the other cream cheese but still had a great texture and flavor. There was a good amount of carrots and scallions distributed throughout the spread. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! The bagels were very soft and chewy and there was a vast variety of options.

We usually go to David's Bagels as the line is way too long here. Not today! We ordered two sandwiches. Their "Signature Favorite" which has sliced Nova, scallion cream cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions and capers and their "Turkey Club" w/ turkey breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato w/ mayo or Russian dressing. I went with Russian dressing on the side. Our plan was to split/ share each sandwich but we loved our sandwiches so much that we chose not to share. I had mine on a toasted garlic bagel and he on a toasted sesame bagel. They were both perfectly toasted! The are generous w/ the turkey breast and the sliced Nova. The bacon and mind you, I did not ask for crispy bacon when I usually do, was perfectly crispy and no skimping here either! These sandwiches were perfect! They also gave a free small coffee today, in observation of Labor Day weekend! WOW! Note: There are tables inside and outside. We scored a table outside. Nothing fancy. Informal and there's a rest room.

Got the signature favorite which has smoked salmon, lettuce, tomato, red onion, capers, and scallion cream cheese. Generous amount of fillings and half was enough to satisfy me for breakfast. Personally thought the red onion was a bit much and the taste stayed in my mouth for hours. Line moves fast so make sure you know your order or be prepared to get yelled at lol

ordered a plain bagel toasted w scallion cream cheese and ended up w a plain bagel not toasted w strawberry (?) cream cheese??? I don't understand how someone can mess an order up this bad. on top of that, this bagel is tough and almost inedible. Lastly, service was very slow w only one person making bagels

    Lox Lovers Signature Sandwich

Bagel itself was extremely fluffy and I really enjoyed it but thought the sandwich was really expensive ($17) and would probably not go back for it. Would go back to get only the bagels in the future. Service was fast and there were tables inside for seating.

Everything bagel with scallion cream cheese
    Emily X.

Small place with a line that wrapped around. I was excited to finally try Ess-A-Bagel! There were some unique cream cheese flavors, but I stuck to my classic order of an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. I was a little disappointed that the seasoning was only on the top of the bagel, I felt that it could've used more seasoning. The texture of the bagel was nice and thick. The cream cheese got everywhere so it was pretty messy, but I would rather there be more cream cheese than not. Overall, a solid bagel choice.

We got the Banter Bowl, which includes pickled carrot, cabbage, watermelon radish, cucumber, edamame, avocado, quinoa, and miso ponzu dressing. You have a choice of meats, so we chose the grilled chicken. Second, we ordered the falafel bowl that includes three falafels, pickled onions, avocado, cucumber, whipped garlic feta, kale salad, romesco, and Za'atar dressing that had a delicious flavor. However, our ultimate favorite had to be the Thai Crunch Wrap with sweet potato fries. It was fairly busy, and our drinks took a while to come, but the food arrived shortly after. The next time I'm back, I will be sure to reorder the Thai crunch wrap. If you have food allergies, they are extremely accommodating and have numerous vegan/vegetarian/GF.

The green juice was so refreshing and the fries were delicious and the aioli paired with it was perfection. Our waitress was so nice and gave us some amazing recommendations including the falafel wrap (they have a housemade edamame falafel) which was delicious and my friend argues it might be the best falafel wrap in the city. Pickled veggies, fresh falafel, the works. The waffle was also delicious and it had an addicting maple-butterscotch sauce that kept us coming back (I wish I ordered one just for myself it was that good). Can't wait to come back, Banter Brunch days will definitely be a part of my routine.

I ordered a tequila mule, but it was lacking flavor and was underwhelming. For my entrée, I ordered the steak medium well, but it came out medium rare. Despite being undercooked, the steak was surprisingly tough and chewy, and it did not seem like a quality cut of meat considering the price. The waiter was friendly and provided good service, which was the highlight of the visit. However, due to the uncomfortable atmosphere, slow food service, disappointing drink, and poor-quality steak, I would not recommend dining here.

My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

The restaurant has a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere that fits well with their comfort-food focused menu, and the dining room stays lively without being too loud, making it easy to settle in and take our time. The food here leans classic brunch, but there are enough options that make it stand out. The chicken and waffles are a must-try, with the crispy chicken paired with the sweet waffles for a satisfying balance that hits both savory and sweet notes in one plate. The lemon ricotta pancakes are another highlight, with a lighter texture and a nice flavor that does not feel overly sweet, allowing the ricotta to add a subtle creaminess. We also liked the pastrami hash and the latke with smoked salmon and poached eggs, which bring more savory options to the menu and give the brunch spread a bit more variety beyond the usual sweet offerings. The portions are generous, and the flavors are straightforward but well executed. One thing that stood out was how many dietary options were available, especially with clearly marked gluten-free choices across the menu. It made the experience feel more accommodating without making the menu feel overly complicated or scattered. The service was friendly and attentive, and the overall experience felt comfortable from start to finish. The staff checked in at the right moments and kept the pace of the meal moving without rushing us. Friedman's is the type of place that works well when you are craving a familiar brunch meal done well. It is not trying to reinvent breakfast, but it delivers a reliable, satisfying meal with a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to return to. Whether you are stopping in for a quick bite or settling in for a longer catch-up session, it offers the kind of consistent, comforting experience that keeps neighborhood spots like this in regular rotation.
