I FINALLY got to check out Este. I was so excited. The inside was so beautiful. We were seated on the patio since we did not have a reservation. It was also nice out there and they did have misters and fans. I recommend you either make a reservation in advance or go right when it opens. Our waiter was amazing and had great recommendations. His level of service was top notch! My friends and I went for Happy Hour. I had the tropical margarita. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to margs. This one (actually I had two ha!) was amazing. It was JUST how I like them made. I also had the fish tacos which were also on the happy hour menu. They were delicious too. Yum! The only thing I was not crazy about were the chips they provide. Great time and such a beautiful space. I wasn't too hungry but ordered some wine and ceviche. The ceviche was delicious, a bit oily, but I liked that it was a great portion and very fresh. I'd order this again as an appetizer to share. The tostadas were large and crunchy as you would want them. One of my friends ordered the maíz cake dessert and it was so different, but in a good way! Very rich and not what you'd expect, I'd get that again too. I'll come back and check out their main entrees and some of their cocktails. This is my second time going to Este. We sat on the patio this time which had a cool woodsy outdoor atmosphere. They had fans going, and a little propeller gadget that kept the flies away. Our server was super friendly and attentive and helped solidify our choice to get the tuna collar based on his experience and it being a staff favorite. We had the tuna tiradito, the camerones el ricas (butterflied shrimp), the steak au poivre, and the tuna collar. Everything tasted great, especially the sauce that comes with the steak. Este offered delicious Mexican cuisine with a specialization in seafood! We started our meal by ordering the Este Ceviche, and I can see why it's so popular. The tai snapper was extremely fresh and tender and every bite provided a limey and creamy (cause of the avocado) touch. This complimented very well with the complimentary face-sized chips provided by the restaurant! As for our entree, we decided to share the Cochinita Pibil so that we could build our own tacos. The protein is a slow cooked pork wrapped around a bamboo leaf and was easy to shred apart for your tacos. We also shared a side of the Papas a La Parrilla and enjoyed the combined chimichurri and garlic aioli sauce. Overall, I loved the homey and warm vibes of this restaurant (you literally walk into a big house) and it's a versatile setting for any type of occasion! I can't give Este anything but a 5 stars because they truly live up to their sister restaurant. From vibe and ambience to service to food, Este does everything so well. If you like seafood, Este is your place. Especially in Austin, like c'mon. How is that even possible? You're definitely going to need a reservation if you want to visit, and I've heard reservations can be hard to get. My friends and I were completely unhinged one day and decided to show up at their busiest time on a Friday night, and we only waited about 30 minutes to an hour? Perhaps we got lucky because they also were only a few weeks into their opening. I can't remember everything we ordered anymore, but trust me when I say that everything is phenomenal. Meaning no one dish offers all the food groups for a balanced diet. Once must buy several al a carte items to be healthy while they take you to the bank. All shots listed on their spirits pages are priced for one ounce; without any indication, until your overly bubbly waiter kindly advises if you want a two oz pour you must pay double. I had the bluefin tuna app and the drunken shrimp where they flame broil the shell and ur expected to eat the shell along with the shrimp. Long story short, I gave up trying to eat all dem shells. The flavor was good. Another pet peeve; they ask me for my phone number to "Check in"! Excuse me miss, I didn't have a reservation and I want to sit at the bar. When I get home, will I get an unsolicited text from your place of business. The food was a solid 3 for me. For others I can see how it could be 3.5 or 4 if you don't eat out everyday. We saw that they block off some tables for walk-ins and managed to snag bar seats. The bartenders are super friendly. I ordered one of the wines and they let me try it before serving. It was a natural wine with a funk. I didn't get it and ordered a pinot noir (my go-to). For food, my friend ordered the fish tacos and the tuna tostada. Had a bite of both and they were delish. I ordered the grilled shrimp and it is MESSY! You're going to have to use your hands and the shells are hard to get off. I ended up eating the shells. Great meal but probably wouldn't order again due to how messy it is. THE FINAL BAMBOO: For an the shrimp entree and a glass of wine was ~$55 not including tip. This is Suerte's sister restaurant that specializes in mostly seafood. The interior is beautiful as is the patio outdoor area. It's a great place for a date night or a special occasion. The service is fantastic and attentive - one of us had a avocado allergy and they made sure to point out that there were avocado leaves in a specific dish. The food in general is very unique and innovative. It's a little pricey but they had huge portions. Parking - they have complimentary valet, I'm not sure where you would park otherwise, as they have a super small lot when you pull in. Complimentary chips - it comes with two delicious dips. Hongos Fritos $26 - this was super unique, it was a dish of tempera fried oyster mushrooms. It came with fresh, super soft tortillas that you could make your own taco. The dish is super creamy and umami. Grilled Squid $28 - this also came with tortillas, definitely helps to make it a more filling meal. The sesame puree was a little overwhelming but the grilled taste was super intense and good. Pastel De Elote $13 - this is a lava corn cake that has a gooey inside. There's attention to detail to every plate and they do a great job mixing various flavors to produce amazing dishes. Came here to celebrate my anniversary and was pleasantly surprised with the little note for us and complimentary champagne. We had a reservation but waited about 10-15 minutes before we were seated. The server was great at explaining the menu and his personal preferences. I ordered the ceviche and Tuna for appetizers and both were amazing. The tuna had a smoky flavor and the ceviche was light and refreshing. I personally did not like either of the main courses we had ordered. The grilled squid was too charcoal or burnt tasting for my liking and the monkfish was heavy. I believe they change their menu as the seafood has different seasons. The restaurant was packed as the date was close to Valentine's Day but the ambient lighting and plating of the dishes make it a nice dinner place for those looking to celebrate something. Pricy for sure but it was a fun and tasty anniversary meal with excellent service! They put out a little post card with a Happy Anniversary message and gave us glasses of Prosecco with our fish course which was a nice surprise. Our server was great, the timing of the dishes was perfect, she gave us great recommendations and made pleasant small talk without feeling like she was hanging around too much. The food: we started with the Tuna Tiradito, it lived up to my expectations from all the reviews! The sauce is very rich and salty but the avocados creaminess really brings everything together- I'd definitely recommend this. We also tried the fish tacos which were very tasty, generally I feel like fish tacos need to be saucy to keep them from being dry but these were perfectly juicy with just the fish, cabbage, and a bit of salsa on top. They were larger than we expected too- the two tacos could have been a normal lunch/light dinner for me. We tried the Braised Fennel on our servers recommendation, it was fun and different- sort of an artichoke heart flavor and feel. For our mains we got the Trout en Hoja Santa, this was ok but I wouldn't order it again. The fish was cooked well but the sauce just tasted like tahini to me and overall I thought it needed some acid or something to make it pop more. Bland isn't quite the right word but I wasn't wowed. The Skate Wing a la Crema was much better! I'd never had skate or any type of ray before so it was a fun new experience, the fish itself was very tender and tasty, and the sauce was exactly what the trout was missing- super rich and very flavorful. It was a bit heavy especially as our last dish, but I loved it and would definitely get it again. We were so stuffed at this point that I had to get my dessert to go; I had to try the Pastel de Elote. Per our server's recommendation later that night I air fried it for 5 min and dug in! So rich and caramely, plus the tartness of the strawberries and the crunch of the hazelnuts, yum!! All the cocktails we tried were awesome (and strong)- we got two margaritas, the Saladito and Sombra (both excellent), the Copa Coleto (good but heavy on the cucumber flavor), and the Garden G&T (excellent, loved the herbal flavor!). Believe it or not, while our main reason to visit Este was that they serve seafood well, our unanimous best dish vote went to their Alambre & Eggs. It is basically steak(kebab) and sunny side up eggs in a rich seasoned sauce. So flavorful! So perfectly grilled! So juicy! The eggs are lovely to dip in. While I might have liked a little bread with this, the handmade flour taco's were a wonderful addition, too. The complimentary, home-made tortilla chips to start with dips well in the 2 dips/salsas. I liked to use the sauce to top off the fish tacos. The fish tacos were filling, but also caused us to crave for more, because it had the perfect balance of fish and toppings. Their Ceviche with white fish were cooked softly in a light, fresh juice. The smoked trout is a heavenly starter. We received wonderful, informative service and others jumped in for a smooth shift transition to a new waiter. Our waiter helped us by marking those dishes that contained nuts for my party of 3 with nut allergies. The setting was light, spacious and yet cozy. The booths and seats were really nice too. I love the hanging plants and the natural light coming through the roof! We completed our visit with a beautiful and rich chocolate mouse dessert. The ambiance was a vibe. It is decorated amazing and the food was delicious. They even had a garden in the back that features fresh produce. My ambiance complaint was the noise level. Came to Este with a couple of friends on a Monday evening. This is probably one of the new up-and-coming HOT restaurants from the sister group Suerte. It was packed for a Monday night; the difference between Suerte and Este is the food focus. For Este it is a heavy seafood menu so if you don't like seafood or have an allergy, I wouldn't recommend coming here. This spot sits out on manor road, diagnolly from hoovers in a really cute "house". The parking is 100% valet so be prepared to bring some money for tipping. Once I arrived to grab the table the hostess stated that it was not quiet ready but that there would be someone I could grab a drink from once i stepped outside. If I had arrived at the designated reservation time I would've only waited about 5 minutes or so. The drinks here are pricey as is most of Austin these days but the flavors in the sombra (mezcal and pomegranate) were subtle along with the other drinks my friends ordered. The "raw" portion of the menu was probably my favorite. We ordered the Tuna Tiradito, Este Ceviche (which was good but not my favorite) and the Aguachile al Chiltepin. The tuna and the Aguachile had a great mix of flavors and the chips provided (in-house made) provided the best vehicle to get these items to your mouth. We also ordered the Pescadillas but the flavor profile was not our favorite as it had a fishy aftertaste (it reminded me of a fish pizza roll). Lastly, the monkfish a la tumbada, Little Gems and Okra was the last dish to arrive to the table. The monkfish wasn't super memorable and the sides somewhat outshined the entree. Finally desert was the tart with a dulce de leche glaze. I didn't taste that much guava and it tasted very similar to apple pie. Came to Este for a group outing and I hadn't ever heard of it. It is in a cute little neighborhood but it looks like their parking lots becomes 100% valet at night (could be full time, but I was there in the evening so I would assume this is the case) I ordered one drink to start- The Blue Tang Clan. I thought it would be a little on the sweeter side, but it was a perfectly balanced drink. It was smoky (thanks to the mezcal) but somehow the flavors were completely unexpected. There is a slight spice in the back of your throat as well. The waitress recommended things be shared family style so our table ordered the following: Carreta Tostada Pescadillas Grilled Squid Salmon Al La Pulla Okra I really enjoyed everything, but the Salmon Al La Pulla was AMAZING, especially the little orange sauce on top. We were thrown off a little by the big corn chips for the "chips and salsa". However the clams and oysters were super yummy. As another appetizer definitely try the ceaser salad... our waitress said it could feed up to four but I'd say the max is two (it's a smaller portion). When it came to our entrée I would not recommend the Cochinita Pibil. For that being a speciality I found it bland in flavor and pretty lackluster especially for it being $32. On the flip side the Pescado a la Crema was absolutely delicious and would recommend! The dessert was also really good and would recommend the carrot cake and cheesecake! The fish, pork, and vegetables were well seasoned and had great texture. Some of the dishes came with tortillas that were super fresh and soooo good!! As someone who isn't a fan of raw seafood, I don't think there was a single side dish that I could've eaten. There were some mains that with cooked fish but the selection isn't as great as I thought. The fish tacos were tasteless other than the lime I squeezed onto it, so I ended up getting full off the free tostadas and dip. Disappointed and underwhelmed for the price, quality, and hype I've heard about this place. Austin is buzzing about Este as the new hot spot, as Chef Fermin came over from Suerte to design a more seafood-focused menu. I came for happy hour - half-off oysters and bottles of wine 5 days a week, YES PLEASE! Austin needs more fresh fish and this is a great place to get it, starting with oysters. The pickled mignonette is just right, although the smoked trout salad needs some work - salt? citrus? I liked it best with a splash of their green sauce which is *amazing.* My very favorite thing was the shrimp aguachile negro - SO much depth on the burnt tomatillos, perfectly contrasted by the citrus and a nice surprise of cucumber. The very best I've had. Second fave were the Camarones "El Ricas" - perfectly charred citrusy, garlicky shrimp (a theme here, maybe?) - I enjoyed shelling them and tossing into one of the beautiful handmade masa tortillas with (of course) more green sauce and some creamy red sauce. YUM! The Pescado Zarandeado is a huge beautiful portion great for sharing and serving up fajitas-style tacos, although the marinade could use some heat - this is Texas, after all! Absolutely lovely and surprising in all the right ways was the Grilled Squid. The name sounds a little scary, but it's served like calamari with this velvety purée of brown butter and herbs and hazelnuts that bring the texture to a party in your mouth. Rounding things out, the Rum Baba is like an elevated pineapple upside-down cake your grandmother didn't make. Even our non-dessert lover is a convert. Just beautiful! Atmosphere is cool, warm, comfortable, great for a date, professional group, or with friends. I was most impressed with the service. After waiting tables for many years, I'm often disappointed, but Zach was incredible - he knew every detail of menu preparations, was always patient with questions and refilling drinks before we wondered to ask, even refolded our napkins when we got up from the table. Our meal and experience was incredible!! Our server, Fin, was funny, helpful and attentive. Inside is super cute and vibey. We got there a little before happy hour ended so we ordered a guac, a fish taco and the matchaca de atun to try. All were great but the guac and fish taco were my favorite! The way the fish is fried it's so airy and delicious. The orange salsa they bring out with the chips is spicy goodness and goes great on everything you order. The cachetada taco is amazing, meat is good and has a little kick to it. You must get the tuna tiradito as well! It was my favorite thing we got! They used to have this trout dish with an orange sauce that was to die for but our waiter told us now they only bring it back for certain occasions. Margaritas were great! Lastly, if I haven't already convinced you to go, GORDON RAMSAY was eating at the restaurant while we were there, so it must be good! read more

Pretty disappointed in our experience at Este. The fish in all the dishes we ordered tasted overly fishy, it took 20 minutes to be seated despite our reservation, and the food took another 45 minutes to come out. I had heard great things and was excited to try it, but wanted to share transparently -- at these price points, the quality of both food and service should be much higher. read more

I decided to visit Este after watching Bon Appetit's YouTube video featuring the restaurant. Opportunities to eat fresh seafood in Austin aren't super common, so my partner and I jumped on the opportunity to try it. We've been twice so far during lunchtime and had an enjoyable experience both times. We ordered the the smoked trout dip, and I love it so much!!! The dip has a perfect, smoked and salty taste that goes so well with the freshly sliced cucumbers and crackers. My partner also loves the pickled okra that comes with the dish. The portion size of the dip is also pretty generous. The swordfish tacos are also AMAZING!!! They are quite literally the best fish tacos I've ever had. The swordfish is fried in a masa batter that is always perfectly crispy. If you can only get one dish from Este, you MUST get the fish tacos!!! I have mixed feelings about the other dishes I had. The first time I visited, I had the fish of the day, which happens to be tilefish. The texture is kind of rubbery, similar to lobster. I honestly did not enjoy the fish or the hoja santa salsa verde at all. The second time, we ordered the trout a la pulla. I also didn't like the fish or the sauce it came with, which is unfortunate because I love trout. My partner also didn't enjoy the fishes we had, but it might be due to our personal tastes. I had high hopes and expectations for this place. I ordered oysters, este ceviche, and guac to share. The oysters were underwhelming but it's not their fault. The guac was pretty darn good. The Este ceviche was also underwhelming. Considering it has its name in the dish, I think I expected more flavor. I felt like it needed more tang or some flavor. All in all, the venue is cute and service is great but I don't think I would go back for the food. :/ read more

Ok so we're mega fans of Suerte and Fermín Núñez so when we finally got back to Austin we were determined to try Este! Did. not. disappoint. On the cocktail front, loved loved the Hoja en Blanco (truthfully had one too many, maybe... ). Chipileño also solid - would've liked it to be more coconut-y. I'd highly recommend... like 5/5... - Ceviche - the citrus carrot pepper chile oil is phenomenal - Tostada de trucha - it grows on you with every bite! - Trout a la pulla - crema was to die for - I don't love shrimp but we tried the Camarones "El Ricas" - I'm not sure I'm the eat with the shell type but it was interesting to try and the flavors were fantastic - Pastel de elote - WOW! another that grows on you with every bite We would pass on the fish tacos and the chorizo broiled oysters. Both were good, just not special enough to get again. Appreciated the terrific and attentive service. And the vibes were chill beachy with fun beats to spice it up. Fantastic spot! Let me first start by saying this place is not cheap but then again good seafood usually isn't! I was excited to finally try Este after hearing such rave reviews and fighting to get a reservation for months and they sure didn't disappoint. Service was spot on and the the decor/vibe was very modern & clean. We came in during happy hour so the oysters were half off so opted for a half dozen to start. I will say I wish they had more to offer on their happy hour menu as I feel like it's a bit missed opportunity as it's super limited. For entrees I tried a couple different things to get an idea of the menu and flavors the restaurant offered. The mixta tostada was the first one up and offered a refreshing and tangy taste similar to a ceviche. Next up was the flautas de pescado which was probably my favorite dish of the night as the Oaxacan cream really brought out complex flavors. The fish tacos were served after and had a great breading on the swordfish which offered some crunch. Lastly was the tuna carnitas which honestly was my least favorite and the most expensive of the dishes as I felt like it was on the drier side and was small portioned so probably would not get this again. All in all Este offered a great date night out for me and the hubby and brought some unique flavors the seafood forward dishes. Although it probably wouldn't be a restaurant I'd go to frequently but I'd more consider it for a special occasion or when a friend is visiting in town. read more
