    Brunch menu 3/1/26

My go to here is getting an espresso martini and the burger with fries(sometimes truffle fries). The service is usually good. The espresso martini is a consistent drink, nice coffee flavor and shaken enough to create a foam top. The burger with fries is filling for 1 person. I've also tried other dishes such as their lobster roll(which was ok), chicken and waffles, mushroom risotto, their korean breakfast bowl(which wasnt that great), softshell crab benedict. Depending when you go, it can be busy so maybe make reservations. For the most part, this restaurant is consistent food and service wise.

Wonderful breakfast get together with Yelp friends Gail U. and Donna O. at et. al. 5 stars for the great get together! The restaurant has a large bar and counter top area. The bar chairs have gorgeous fabric backing with flower leis. Very welcoming to those who enter the establishment. The tables are standard, as well as the chairs. Spacious area with a variety of table sizes. Service is generally attentive and friendly. We were not rushed out and we were able to eat and talk at ease. Food is average. The Haupia (coconut) French toast was unremarkable. The Haupia flavor was missing and the bottom pieces of toast were on the mushy side. I was not a fan of this dish. Gail's breakfast included a side of 'ulu (breadfruit) tots. This was unique and tasty. Thank you for letting me try it. Donna's mochi waffle was crispy and slightly chewy. The honey walnut chicken was unremarkable. The presentation of this dish is a big fail. Please look at the photos. Thank you for letting me taste your dish. I enjoyed my refillable iced coffee. Perfect for a warm day. Coffee flavor was subtle and almond milk blended well. Bathroom is Not available within the restaurant. 6-3-2026 We arrived a few minutes before our 9 a.m. table reservations . We could select any table so I asked for the one in the corner: more room, less tables nearby. Our server was very patient as we decided on what to eat and drink. Very knowledgeable of the menu choices- what was popular and what ingredients were used. We each chose something different. Donna had the chicken and waffles plus iced coffee, Jackie tried their French toast and added cream to her iced coffee. I had 2 poached eggs, strips of extra crispy bacon and good tasting ulu tots( breadfruit tots) plus an Olena refresher. On the Open Table on line reservations you can notify them if someone is celebrating a birthday. They brought a nice big scoop of the BEST mango sorbet to Donna with 3 spoons for all of us to try- it was really good. They have beautiful counter chairs decorated with printed views of draped leis.

This is one of the things I love about Hawaii...an upscale restaurant run by a grocery store chain featuring excellent locally sourced food. I feel like you don't find this anywhere else in the country. Et al. exceeds in service standards, which is warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance is modern and fresh. Very comfortable! We started with the Sumida Watercress Salad with Green Goddess Dressing. Yum! I had the pan-seared kanpachi over choy sum in a spicy chili water broth! Absolutely delicious. My dining companion had the mushroom risotto and it was a stand out! Reservations are recommended.

Monday May 25, 2026 first time, coming here. Private parking lot for a lot of food places. We didn't have a reservation. We were seated in 5-10 minutes. We came here for breakfast. But, they have a brunch menu instead. Service was fast and friendly. We both ordered the Braised Short Rib Loco Moco. Food came out shortly after. It looked good and tasted good too. The Braised Short Rib was super soft. Ambiance is casual and comfortable in here.

This is now my favorite meal at this restaurant. I am a pescatarian, so I get this at least twice a week. It's so good. I highly recommend it if you like fish. The service is always great. Never really busy when I go in, typically go in around 830-900 on the weekends without a reservation. My boyfriend gets the Loco Moco (he thinks it's one of the best on the island). The restaurant is located inside Foodland, but it's a really nice, clean, aesthetically pleasing place inside My only issue is that I try to call and order ahead for a to-go order, but I can rarely get through.

We enjoy coming here for the lobster roll but recently the price has gone up. The market price in March was $45 which makes it quite an expensive lunch. You do get decent chunks of lobster though. The seasoning seems to have changed a bit. Seems to have more seasoning than prior times. It is also on their dinner menu but being a sandwich makes it seem more fitting for lunch. It is not on their Pau Hana menu, so if you're there between 3-5 pm the lobster roll is not available and there are only four small bites to choose from.

Came here on a Sunday for brunch and it was fairly busy. It can get loud especially with larger parties. The waitress was very attentive and our food came out quick. I got the honey walnut chicken and mochi waffles, which was delicious. My friend got the pan fried chicken thigh, which she said she enjoyed. It was a coconut chicken over a salad and a side of rice. For dessert, we got coconut and mango sorbet. Both was tasty and creamy! I'd definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

We chose this location due to a friend's recommendation. We reviewed the menu online before arriving, so we knew what we wanted to order. When we got there, they gave us a lunch menu and told us they changed the menu that day. It was their first day with a new menu and hadn't updated their website yet. My heart was set on the garlic chicken and mochi waffles so I was upset cause the lunch menu wasn't my jam. However, the server informed the manager, and he was able to accommodate my request for the chicken and waffles. I was really appreciative that they were able to do that! Had a nice meal and tasty drinks.

I've always wanted to try this place out and I was glad I did. We ordered the Maui Beets, Tagliatelle, and et al. Burger. The beets were just so yummy. They had a tangy sauce that was bright and lively and paired well with the earthy beets. The tagilatelle was also good, but quite small for the price. Finally, the burger was good, kind of your average burger but the fires where AMAZING, super crispy. I think this place is good but its pretty expensive for the amount of food you get.

We came on Mother's Day during brunch hours so the service was a bit slow as expected. The food took about 25 minutes to come out after ordering and we got the fresh catch, clam chowder, and lobster roll. The lobster roll...while it had a generous portion of lobster meat, some pieces tasted a bit..off. Like slightly stinky after taste. And too much mayo/sauce on the bottom made it feel like a soggy $45 mayonnaise sandwich. The fries and clam chowder were really good though. My water was also empty and no one came to refill it until after we asked for the check. Overall not bad but could be better

I went here for my birthday dinner because I've heard great things about et al. They did not disappoint !! This mushroom risotto was so good I couldn't stop eating it. It has a very strong and nice flavor, adding chicken on top helped balance out the flavors nicely as well. The staff was very attentive and gave us great recommendations from the menu. Not to mention, the restaurant is SO beautiful. It has to be the nicest restaurant I have seen in a while and I love the elegant feel.

Food was great! We ordered a mochi waffle and avocado toast. We would come back for the avocado toast! Ambience is great. Clean, next to Foodland.

After hearing so many people say it's a must-try, I finally made the trip--and now I get it. We ordered the pork lau lau, fried butterfish, luau squid its like Daing filipino dish, short ribs, and macaroni salad. Every dish looks basic not something that needed color to make it look good. The pork lau lau was incredibly tender, the fried butterfish had a light, crispy coating without being greasy, and the luau squid was rich, creamy, coconut and The short ribs were packed with flavor and practically almost off the bone. Even the macaroni salad was the kind you keep going back for. The only thing I probably wouldn't order again is the lomi salmon. It wasn't bad--it just wasn't my favorite compared to everything else on the table. If you're visiting Oahu and only have time for a few local food spots, make Helena's one of them. It's the kind of place that reminds you why simple, traditional food never goes out of style. I'd honestly stop here one more time before heading to the airport if I had the chance. That's probably the best compliment I can give it. Fyi food portion are on the smaller side but trust me they will hit the spot.

If you're not a fan of seafood, don't let the squid deter you as it is a minimal part of the dish and added more of a crunchy textural component rather than actual flavor. This was my wife and my favorite dish. The luau pork was also very good though I liked the version we had at Toa Luau better. We also liked the haupia which was a very refreshing coconut pudding though for some reason our boys didn't like it. We also tried pipikaula which are thinly sliced dry-aged beef short ribs marinated in soy sauce and something else that made it sweet. If you know Korean barbeque, you'll instantly get the sensation that these are close cousins to galbi, though the pipikaula are much less sweet in comparison. The dry aging process also makes them a bit more dryer than galbi. On to more difficult stuff. I was enthusiastic about the fried butterfish collar but once I got a waft of the dish, I knew I was in trouble. I'm very sensitive when it comes to fish so the smell (more than the taste) was off putting. My wife was fine with it and enjoyed the dish, but if you aren't a fan of fishy fish, then I would skip it. The lomi salmon looked very much like pico de gallo with the addition of salt-cured salmon. My boys loved this dish because they love salmon but again I would steer clear if you are a seafood weakling like me. Alas, we come to poi. Had my hopes up since I love taro but the texture and a bit of sourness from fermentation deterred me from trying too much of it. I'm glad we tried it but not sure that we would get it again.

Highway Inn is known for traditional Hawaiian food, but we ended up trying some of the local-style twists. The kalua pig quesadilla was really good, and the tacos were solid too. The surprise for me was the chicken from the kids menu. I ordered it anyway, and honestly, no regrets. It was juicy, flavorful, and better than a lot of regular chicken plates I've had. Since it was our last meal before leaving Hawaii and there were still a few Hawaiian dishes I hadn't gotten around to trying, this felt like the perfect spot. What I really liked is that they have a sampler plate with a bunch of classic Hawaiian dishes, and the menu actually breaks down what everything is. Clearly this is something people come here for, because it makes trying a little bit of everything way less intimidating. I split the sampler with someone, and overall I was pleasantly surprised. Some of the items didn't look the most appetizing at first glance -- one especially because of the color -- but flavor-wise, everything was actually really good. One of the dishes reminded me of a comforting chicken soup situation, the clear noodles were good, some of the other items were more savory, and it all balanced together well. The lomi salmon was one of my favorites -- kind of like a light, fresh tomato salsa or pico de gallo situation that paired really well with the pork and everything else on the plate. I didn't finish it all because I was already full, but I genuinely liked the variety and thought the flavors were rich and comforting. So if you're curious about Hawaiian food but don't know where to start, this sampler is a great move. Don't let the appearance of some of the dishes scare you off. Service was quick and everyone was nice. At first I kind of wished someone had walked us through the food a little more, but honestly, the menu already does that for you pretty clearly. Overall, I'm glad we came. It was a fun way to try the Hawaiian dishes we hadn't gotten to yet, and I'd come back to try more.

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

See musubi and onigiri have humble origins as a quickly made homespun snack or on the go lunch, and when you spot them in the convenience environment they're often a giant ball of rice with a tinge of protein or seasoning for flavor. The owner was very friendly and took the time to recommend dishes for us, including the laulau and lechon kawali. We also ordered the BBQ short ribs. Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

All the plates were $26.00 and up. 3. Food - The poi was very tasty and fresh, although a bit watery. The lau lau had a lot of lean pork filling, not a lot of leaves. The long rice didn't have much chicken and was a bit watery too. We enjoyed the sweet potato. There was also lomi salmon, haupia onion and chili pepper water. 4. As mentioned before there isn't much parking. The restaurant wasn't busy when we got there. Overall the food and service was OK. The price was a bit high.
