I ordered a Caprese salad to start which was simple and light, much needed after the doubling up of carbs. For an Entree I got the duck which was a fried half of a duck with a raspberry sauce with spinach and sweet potatoes. Phenomenal. There was a list of specials; one of them was a potato dish in honor of Dolly Parton. It was probably the best part of my meal. I got the three course Coolinary meal: a scallop dish, the wagyu brisket and fries, and the Krispy Kreme bread pudding. Everything was good. I loved the citrus component on the scallops, but the fries were a bit salty and the dessert was too sweet for me. I will say that I heard the people at the table next to mine rave about the bread pudding. My server, Sophie, was attentive. She offered ice cream (at no charge) to go with my bread pudding. She was also apologetic when letting me know that the kitchen was backed up. My courses still came at the perfect pace for my liking, even though they were busy. Long rainy but fabulous day at JazzFest left us in a hungry mood for more of that great stuff that Nola serves up best. My friend started with an Old Fashioned that she very much enjoyed which I know because she got it refreshed. I ordered the Rougaroux which was too good and refreshing so I nursed it through the meal as this cocktail went down too easy and I'm a lightweight and cheap date so I know my limit. We had an excellent server who recommended we order the BBQ Pork Belly with our 1/2 dozen Louisiana select oysters. I would have loved the char grilled but I'm gluten intolerant and they use flour and I can't go for that. I hope Daryl Hall doesn't sue me. We split the 6 oysters and they were ginormous, tender and sweet. With the side fixings of cocktail sauce and mignonette (also horseradish but I'm not a fan of this condiment as I feel sorry for the horse), we were in oyster heaven and my friend is relatively new to the raw oyster game really enjoyed these delights. Next came the BBQ pork Belly with Honey Crystal hot sauce glaze, andouille and tasso mach choux, creamy mash potatoes, fried okra, pickled red onion. This was one of the best pork bellies I've ever had because it was so meaty, perfectly prepared with just the right small amount of fat keeping it tender and the glaze with the mach choux and creamy mash potatoes was so good we easily could have thrown in the towel and screamed No Mas. We didn't so wait, there is more. We split the Lamb Chops two ways, one a lamb chop with an excellent Chimichurri Sauce and a lamb sausage. I thank the Mary Poppins films for introducing the world the Chimichurri sauce. The lamb chop was excellent while the lamb sausage was good, very lamby and a bit too salty. Rougaroux Flor de Cana white rum, Bayou Spice Rum ,blood orange sour, black cherry syrup, Regan's Orange bitters Louisiana "Select" Raw Oysters With horseradish, cocktail sauce and toasted filé mignonette Half-Dozen BBQ Pork Belly Honey Crystal hot sauce glaze, andouille and tasso mach choux, creamy mash potatoes, fried okra, pickled red onion Lamb Two Ways 2 Lamb loin chops and Lamb sausage grilled and served on a sizzling plate with Chimichurri, asparagus, roasted fingerling potatoes This joint inside is comfortable with the look of an unfinished warehouse but not in a bad way at all. There was glitter on the table, which was a nice touch, but once we were seated and served water, we were promptly forgotten about. After waiting 15 minutes, someone finally came to take our drink orders. Another 15 minutes passed, and our drinks still had not arrived--and we still hadn't been given menus. Two different waiters came by and asked if we had already placed drink orders, and we explained that we were still waiting for them. It was unclear who our actual waiter was. Meanwhile, tables around us that had been seated after we arrived had already received their drinks and had their dinner orders taken. After 45 minutes, our drinks finally arrived, and we asked for dinner menus. By the time the menus arrived, we had been at the restaurant for 55 minutes without ever having the opportunity to order food. At that point, we asked for the check and left. The manager did apologize and offered to pay for our drinks, which we declined because we wanted to pay for what we had ordered. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing experience, especially for a fine-dining restaurant. We understand that restaurants can have an off night, but the lack of communication, attentiveness, and basic service throughout our visit was far beyond that. We will not be back to give it another try, and unfortunately, we would not recommend Gautreau's to anyone. New Orleans has so many wonderful fine-dining establishments where you can enjoy both excellent food and excellent service.

Stephen: Had the $40 redfish plate, which he felt looked more like a lunch portion. He thought the food itself was decent and rated it 6/10, but was disappointed by the size for the price and said he left still hungry. Me: I had the red snapper, which was actually a more reasonable portion than the others and tasted decent. I would rate it 7.0/10. I also sampled the other dishes and personally found the flounder to be very bland. The lamb appetizer, in my opinion, was the biggest disappointment of the evening and I would rate it 1/10. Overall experience for me 5/10. Overall, a rating of 5/10 (average between all 4 of us) mainly because of the services. While the service was excellent, the portions were surprisingly very small for a high-end restaurant and the food did not meet our expectations, especially for a birthday dinner we had been looking forward to with family visiting from out of town.
