I visited eureka on a Sunday early evening for a family dinner. Parking was easy with a lot right by the restaurant. There were some other customers dining, but it wasn't too busy. We had our son's 2nd birthday celebration here, a small-ish gathering of 13 folks. The manager at Eureka, Loren, did a fantastic job of accommodating our party. We told him that our toddler is a "runner," and he seated us on the enclosed patio that helped corral our lil guy. Patio is awesome, even in cold weather as they have heat lamps and a beautiful fireplace in the middle. Husband and I checked the place out a week before and had ourselves a little date night at the bar - the ambience and low lighting makes for a super chill atmosphere. We like their drinks, and the appetizers like the pretzel bites, Brussels sprouts, and truffle fries are crowd pleasers. Memorable meals from our party was the bbq bacon burger, black and blue mushroom burger, Philly cheesesteak, fish and chips, and the wagyu and bone marrow burger. The wait staff was also very helpful in getting the cake we brought lit and they were happy to use the cake stand and utensils we bought to set it up. All in all great food and service. I've been to Eureka! a couple of times at their Fresno location, but this was my first visit to the Aliso Viejo spot since it opened. It was just as I remembered--great food and a laid-back atmosphere. I called around 5 PM on a Sunday to see if we could make a reservation for our party of seven, but they only accept reservations up to two hours in advance. Luckily, it wasn't busy, and we were seated right away. We chose to sit inside, though the patio looked inviting--something to try next time. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals, from the fish and chips to the burgers, wraps, and salads--everything was fresh and well-prepared. The only downside was the limited drink options for kids. Since mine don't drink soda, the choices were pretty much just lemonade and orange juice. There were mocktails available, but those didn't really appeal to them. I am honestly really impressed by Eureka's service from both Kylie and the manager. We started our dinner service at the bar. The cocktail my boyfriend order was amazing, the presentation was wonderful for the whiskey cocktail. For dinner, we had a burger, salmon, and pork belly. The pork belly was still a little tough, so not exactly pork belly that melts in your mouth. There is a sweet glaze that compliments the fattiness. The Fresno Fig burger I ordered had a perfect combination of flavors, it reminded me of a charcuterie board. We had the salmon, but it was too salty and the sides did not balance it out. We ordered the Napa chicken sandwich as recommended by the manager and it was better. It's like an elevated BLT sandwich. Kylie was really prompt with checking in with us after we received our appetizer and entrees. When we had an issue with the salty salmon, the manager was not defensive about replacing it. My bf ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, I ordered the 28 day bone marrow burger, and my friend ordered the poke stack. I've tried a lot of the burgers from here but never tried this one. THE WORST SERVICE. Zero stars if I could rate it that way. just came in on 6/4/26 1:20pm for my son's 6th grade graduation (party of 5, 2 adults 3 children ages 8-13) celebration and our experience was completely ruined from the beginning. We were sat in the booth in the back of the restaurant and completely forgotten. We watched as the server take the order and slowly serve the drinks from the bar to a party seated at the same time as us. 10 MORE minutes pass by, and a party of 6 is seated near us. Several minutes later, a server appears and begins to take their order. Despite us waiting for over 20 minutes and we haven't even been acknowledged. The restaurant was not busy, and there were MANY open tables. There were only 4 parties seated inside. After that experience we had enough, we up and left with empty stomachs and completely disappointed. Hate to say it, of the 3 tables that were just seated, 2 parties were Caucasian = immediate service, and you guessed it, our party was Filipino & completely invisible to the wait staff. Have to agree with Saul S. who gave a poor review earlier this week. POCs get the short end of the stick. Well, the geniuses on the marketing team at Eurika decided to get rid of the burger Happy Hour special. Very disappointing. At the Aliso Viejo location, the "team" does not have their act together - a simple drink often takes a really long time to get, etc. (Maybe not their fault: staffing issues, having to put untrained workers on the floor too soon - who knows?) All of this was more palatable if you got a deal on a burger at Happy Hour. Now, that has gone away. Seriously, there's many choices in South O.C., and getting rid of this little perk is super annoying, and makes me never want to frequent this establishment again. Stop screwing the consumer, and taking away whatever little incentive remains to frequent an establishment. Big mistake. These decisions are top down, so the hard working managers at Aliso Viejo have nothing to do with this nonsensical Corporate decision. I'm sure they're sick of hearing the complaints. Happy hour is ridiculous. They don't have enough staff to seat the restaurant, leave tables open and the manager will not honor happy hour pricing when people wait for over thirty minutes and barely pass the end time. This is completely up to the manager to decide. This place has a lot going for it. To start, being in AV, several establishments nearby close fairly early, around 8-10 pm. When a few co-workers and I had a long work day we were looking for something that brought good vibes, was open later (11pm-12 am), offered a late night happy hour, and a mix of menu choices. This continued through to our waitress, who had a wealth of information about the drink and dish options. As we settled in, it seemed pretty clear to us that this is a spot several people frequent, particularly in the late night. It was busy! Food & Drink The late night happy hour is a win and definitely worth the visit. A couple of old fashioned cocktails and a couple of beers, the team was enjoying it. The food was not disappointing either. Nachos, burgers, fish tacos, ahi tuna salad, spicy fried chicken sandwich, everyone was quite happy. In fact, the very next day a couple of us went back a bit earlier and had a similar positive experience. If you're a person of color stay clear and far away. They will ignore you and gaslight you. I've driven past Eureka in Aliso Viejo more times than I can count. It always looked promising. Clean, buzzy, the kind of place that seems like it knows what it's doing. On a warm Thursday night in June, we finally stopped in. Parked right out front. Greeted by a cheerful hostess and seated immediately at a high-top facing the patio. There was a duo out there playing Irish folk tunes. They weren't bad. The kind of thing that gives the night a little texture. The space was well-designed, big but comfortable. Our server was attentive and on point. So far, everything was clicking. We started with the shishito peppers. Fifteen dollars for about ten, deep fried to the point of no return. All crunch, no nuance. My wife ordered the ahi salad. She always orders the salad. I went for the double smash burger, thinking it was a safe bet. Then the wheels came off. The salad was lifeless. A forgettable pile of greens with tired seared tuna, thrown together without a second thought. She picked at it. The burger? Somehow both dry and greasy, with no seasoning, no char, no soul. Just meat on a bun, cooked without care. I finished it out of stubbornness, not satisfaction. It's frustrating, really. The place had potential. The vibe, the service, the setting, it all worked. But the food, the only thing that truly matters, just didn't show up. You can't charge a premium for peppers and botch your burger and salad. Those are the fundamentals. We wanted to like it.
