Review of 2 Leak Detection Services June 11 & 12, 2026 This experience was an enlightening one as I ended up dealing with 2 different companies for the same problem and got 2 completely different results. The concern was that my city water meter needle was slowly spinning and my back yard was soggy and muddy while front yard surface was dry although holes dug for planting in the front had water pool in their bottoms at 13" and 18" below surface level. I was concerned about a leak somewhere - the house slab or the irrigation system or a neighbor. First I had called a company in Anaheim. Their "technician" Gabriel, a young man, arrived on time. I explained my concern to him. I showed him the slowly spinning needle on the water meter and walked him through the dry front yard to the soggy, muddy grass and planters in the back yard so that he was aware of my problem. I showed him where the shut off valves were for the house and irrigation system. I watched him work and also guided him through the house so he could examine the pipes and fittings for each water outlet. He had a variety of devices in his truck. Started out with audio detection of pipes and fittings throughout the whole house. Next he used compressed air to 'pressurize' the system a couple of times but his gauges did not show the pressure drop which he had expected. Then he got out a noise emitting wand to try to trace the paths of any pipes below the surface and placed strips of tape on the floor. After 2 hours he admitted he couldn't find a leak and said his time was up unless I wanted him to keep looking which would cost more. He offered no opinion about why the water meter needle was slowly moving or why the backyard was soggy other than 'well you might be lower than the neighbors are and water runs downhill'. He never even picked up the tape strips he left on the floor. This company had sent a 'technician' who didn't really know what he was doing with the situation that faced him or, it turns out, with his equipment and he was unable to do the job that was contracted for. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nevertheless, that afternoon and the next day this company contacted me by phone, text and email with their invoice and request for payment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would not recommend this company. There are better ones, see below: Second, I called Evans Leak Detection from Orange, CA who came out the next day. Their technician, Omar, arrived on time. I explained the situation and my concerns and walked the landscape with him as I had done with the first company. He examined the slowly turning water meter, got out his audio detection instrument and we walked throughout the house while he listened to the pipes and fittings. Through a series of valve shut offs he could determine the location of the leak. Since he felt that the slowness of the water meter needle spin did not indicate a leak big enough to cause the soggy backyard, he turned his attention to that. After examining the location with the most water, he got out his ladder, looked over the privacy fence and noticed the neighbor's planter adjacent to our property was water soaked while the rest appeared dry. He then examined the neighbor's water meter and found the needle spinning at a noticeable rate. He went with me to the neighbor's house, we explained the situation and were invited to examine their irritation lines. With the neighbors permission he shut off the valve controlling that section of their irrigation. They will make the repair. So, in less than 2 hours, both problems, the leak causing the water meter needle to slowly spin and the cause of the soggy back yard water problem were solved. I would highly recommend this company. read more

Absolutely TERRIBLE Experience - BAIT AND SWITCH! If you want to pay 10x more than what you were quoted, then by all means, hire this company. What an absolute scam. I was quoted $350 to detect a leak - sounded great over the phone, friendly and professional. They came out, dug some areas, and later texted me that they were finished. The tech said he'd call to discuss options for reconnecting the house bib. During that call, there was no mention whatsoever of additional costs. We decided to have him cap it off for now and we would revisit later. Then comes the invoice: $3,500. Excuse me? I agreed to a leak detection, not a full-blown repair job or unauthorized work. At no point was I informed of any additional charges or time-based costs. Sure, I understand that $350 may not cover everything, but it's unethical and deceptive to proceed with work without discussing or approving the new cost first. And not just a few hundred dollars more, thousands more! When I reached out for clarification, the owner tried justifying the price by talking about his "overhead costs" and how much he pays employees like "Omar." He also mentioned that it was "a lot of work" and that they spent significant time on the job, which I completely understand and respect. However, that still doesn't give you the right to charge whatever amount you want without informing or getting approval from the customer first. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The amount of effort or time spent should be communicated before proceeding, not sprung on the customer after the fact with a surprise invoice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] High overhead and extra labor don't excuse the lack of transparency, that's just poor business management. To make it worse, [[HIGHLIGHT]]he claimed he went above and beyond because I said my HOA was pushing to get the leak fixed quickly. I don't even live in an HOA. Slab leaks are one of the most stressful home issues to deal with because you know it's going to cost a lot, but most plumbers won't give you a price until after they've finished the job. Evans Leak Detection lets you know what it will cost before they even come to your house. How awesome is that! This is a long review because these guys deserve it. From the beginning, Ron was straight forward and upfront about the slab leak detection and repair process. The absolute best part is the flat rate pricing for fixing slab leaks. Knowing the cost ahead of time eased my mind and helped me better prepare for the expense. I called so many plumbers trying to get an idea on cost to repair our slab leak and none of them would give a price. I foolishly paid another plumber for leak detection and estimate before contacting Evans Leak Detection. Hire this Company! You have found the one to do the job! I started to notice that my bathroom floors were warm. Well, I had always wanted radiant floors, but this wasn't the way so I knew it was bad. A neighbor recommended Evans Leak Detection so I gave them a call. I have to say that I was a little worried when Ron gave me an almost $1,500 quote over the phone sight unseen (I kept trying to talk him into it being just a problem with the water heater...he very nicely assured me that it wasn't and told me why.) I have known Lloyd and Joy for many years. I know Lloyd sold the business a few years back to his long time employee Patrick. I have never had a slab leak until recently I noticed I was using three times the normal water usage. I had no visible water damage and had two other leak detection companies try to locate the leak. Very prompt friendly service. Unfortunately, dismayed at the seemingly bate and switch. Was explained the pricing and understood the pricing was $350 for leak detection and $1,150 for slab leak needing cutting into slab and walls. $1,150 sound like a great deal, until you find out they do a tubing bypass, not copper piping, which does not require cutting into the slab. Not as invasive as cutting into the slab, but seems quite pricey for how the repair is done - and I did not hear about any guarantee. So a slab leak repair is $1,150. Not sure why $350 is even mentioned unless someone calls because they did not notice a leaking faucet. read more
