A service rep named Jay Patz was referred to us by a and we were impressed with how professional he was. He laid a blanket down ion the floor in front of the fireplace before he started working, explained how to turn off the gas if we want to, fixed the position of the "wood" to make it look nicer, he was very nice & professional. I was in need of adjusting the condensers on my AC units at home. The units were originally on plastic platforms over dirt, heavily leaning due to settling, and installed within 6 inches of the walls of our house. I like to use local businesses and EVCO was one company that fit the bill. I called multiple places. Some were not available, others required a fee to give me a quote even though I knew what I wanted to have done. Some places just wanted too much for the services requested. Evan came out and gave a reasonable quote for the work requested. As I was also interested in installing a mini split for a room, he explained his company didn't install them. Although he did not plan to do the work, he did give me advice on what would need to be done and options for placement for the equipment. Evan was able to take care of my other condenser needs and was very flexible with our need of timing for uninstalling and reinstalling due to accommodating a business out of our home (Salon). They came out late to uninstall and the following morning, they reinstalled after repositioning the units and ensuring they were on good stable bases. They also cleaned out both units which was desperately needed. Both units now run much quieter so hopefully they will last longer. Everything was done and we had no impact on our business, plus we still had AC for a party we had planned the following day. On the evening of Sept. 6th our air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. The outside thermometer read 122 degrees. That evening we called the company who installed our new ac unit 4 years ago and we did not receive a call back. So, the next morning I started calling repair persons and kept calling until I reached Evan at EVCO in Orangevale at 916 988 8681, he was out in the field working and he answered my phone call. He scheduled an appointment for a few hours later and he showed up. Within 10 minutes my air conditioner was repaired and running. He had the right parts for the job with him and very quickly did the repair. He squeezed my appointment in because he has worked in the area for many years and knew where my house was. He was also very reasonable when it came to payment and easy to communicate with. I would refer him to a friend without hesitation. My husband and I were desperate for assistance as our Air Conditioning unit died during the heat of summer. We looked at several HVAC professionals, and found EVCO Heat and Air. We decided to choose this company based on Yelp reviews. Plus he was local and he was able to meet us on the day that the AC unit died. We had advised him we were renters and the owner was in Europe, so to please not gouge us. No problem, he said. Lots of wait time for AC companies in Sacramento summers. He arrived at our location and immediately hopped on the roof, determined that we had a motor that had gone bad. He told my Husband and I that he had been in the business for over 35 years, and this motor was a special order. He had called two places, and had to leave a message. He advised that he would call us back that afternoon for a status. We had asked him what the serial and or model number of the motor was, and he didn't have it with him. My husband asked him several times, just text it to us when he can and maybe we can tag team it. Sure, no problem. When he came back into the garage, the invoice did not have the model and or serial number - but the bill was $180 to check the AC. I thought okay, no big. Most places were charging between $140-175 for a service call. Again, before he walked to his truck - please text us the information. "Sure, no problem" he said. A few hours later: we had not heard from him. I texted him and asked; hey can you please text us that information so that we can get started on this? Backstory: I suffer from a chronic illness and cannot be out in the heat. Hence the sense of urgency. My husband called and left two messages. No response. Finally my husband was so furious because although he had our $180.00, he couldn't text us back some simple information? My husband got on the roof and tore into the AC to find information that we needed. He drove down to Appliance Warehouse to pick up the motor. Husband then texted Evan at Evco to advise that we found the motor, when can he come install it. Evan said it was the wrong motor. Again, my husband texted and called him right after. Asking YET AGAIN, what is the correct serial and or model number then??? Evan REFUSED to pick up the phone. All he did after several calls was to advise that 1. it was under warranty and 2. he could do it on next Monday. That was six days away. The second AC company we contacted had met us at the house that day, confirmed it was the wrong motor (which we cannot get a refund for), ordered the correct motor - HAD IT SHIPPED PRIORITY OVERNIGHT and repaired the AC the very next day. We are planning to leave a glowing review on Yelp for that company because they we're 1. kind, 2. honest, 3. timely and 4. fair priced. So a few takeaways from our visit with Evan at EVCO: He could have cared less about the situation that we were in. Especially since I suffer from a serious health condition. It is my estimation that he not only wanted to order the motor at a sufficient discount BUT to probably overcharge us for that motor as well, and then collect the warranty money. He knew we were in a bad situation and he tried to take full advantage of that. Again, we were only the renters and had to take care of the situation because the owner was in another country. In fact, I would highly recommend skipping his profile on Yelp if you are wanting assistance in your HVAC needs. I would be very wary of this company as I believe his behavior was a shady malfeasance on a whole other level of dishonesty. read more

One of the things I learned through this experience is that this is the type of industry that will charge a service fee to come look at your AC. I didn't think to ask when I was calling for estimates which was my fault and I was not provided with that information up front which should arguably be disclosed. I think most of us want estimates to make sure we are getting a fair price. I caution you about some of the other competitors who have very low or mediocre service fees to get in your door because none of us is excited about paying that fee if we don't hire the company for the job. If you ask for the service fee for EVCO, you will be tempted to not get an estimate from them and just go to another company because it was very high. Please keep focused on the big picture though!! My logic was that if the service fee was so much higher, then the price of the job would be higher! I was very wrong about that!!! Even though this company was recommended by a friend, so was another one, so I wanted at least two estimates. Evan was prompt, he explained what was going on with my unit, and the price he offered was about 20% less than another recommended competitor. Overall, any of us wants a fair price for the work we need completed. I believe Evan is a very honest, fair, and competent professional and I would hire him again if I needed something. He definitely proved his value to me!!! On top it all, he offered a 1 year warranty where the competitor was only going to offer 3 months. Not sure about the Evco in Antelope, but I called the one in Orangevale and they were fantastic!!!! Someone came out the day after I called, and it was the middle of summer and during a heat wave. Some other came out and said everything looked fine. Yet the AC would run all day and night even though it was like 95 degrees outside. Evco looked at the AC and found the coils were so dirty that the air was not pushing through. I live in a rental and I guess the previous renters never cleaned/changed the filter. This guy cleaned the coils and checked everything else. He was done in less than an hour and cleaned up what mess he made. It cost me $180 and my monthly SMUD bill dropped from $350 to $170. And even when it's over 100, the AC can keep the house at 78 degrees and doesn't run all day and night. read more
