Chinese food, burgers, and breakfast is an interesting combination. Most restaurants can't do diverse menus well. But Duffin's is one of my favourite places, so I'm open-minded. I tried the beef & broccoli, a monte cristo sandwich, and a bacon cheeseburger. It was all decent. Not amazing, but also not bad. With the pricing, it's all fair, and I'm not disappointed with the quality at all. The fries aren't great. They are about equal to your generic freezer fries. I could do without them. I wish they had the beef and broccoli available with noodles and not just rice. read more

The city hash, however, was surprisingly good. Very surprisingly! Recommended. Especially at that price. Go in, look at menu, order and pay at counter, and the food is brought out to you. The decor is not amazing but the food was good and price was very reasonable. We also had a fairly large party but the food came out pretty quick. With so many places boasting brunch in Vancouver, it's the places you least expect that bring the greatest joy. I present thee Evelyn's. Small, unassuming, quaint, and surrounded by other equally small and charming businesses, this 80s style diner is like a warm hug, on a dreary day. It's like the Cheers of Kits, people are regulars, and the manager knows your name and order. The fare is diner style with breakfast all day, sandwiches, burgers, and some unexpected Chinese food. My favourite is the simple, and palate pleasing Corn Beef hash with eggs over easy. Real corn beef (shaved off an actual corn beef, none of that lunch meet stuff), perfectly cooked, hand made hash browns, some veg, and topped with two eggs over easy, and a side of toast. Add some of THE BEST drip coffee I've ever drank, and a grand total of.... 9.50. Can you even? Like repeat that number! Pay at the counter, have a seat, and before you know it, steaming deliciousness! I swear though, if you're rude to the people there, I will hunt you down. They are so lovely, and warm, and hard working, if it's busy, be respectful of the work they do to make people happy and full. Suuuuper affordable, family owned breakfast place! Even if you order two Benedict's, it will come out to only $16! The menu has a variety of diner breakfast items. The place has a very cozy feeling to it as you can tell that the food is house made with care! The owners are really friendly too - it feels like a classic diner with a cozy vibe for locals. A great lunch today at Evelyn's Coffee Shop - just love that this place is still in business for so many decades. The burger lunch special was stuffed with lettuce, tomato, mushroom and cheese. Bun fried on the grill. Fries from the freezer, but very nicely done. Lady next to me said the coffee is very good! A varied menu. Very clean, friendly staff. This is the kind of place where couples from the 'hood come in for their lunch, and the owner calls out, "the usual?" It's where the young guys working construction give up the comfy seats for the elders. Bonus - you can buy a fresh banana for your dessert. Nice family-run place. Busy, busy at lunch with a huge volume of take-out. Lots of street parking, bus stops on the same block. read more

I ordered the cheese Bennie, I paid about $30 and got it delivered by Uber. It showed up in good time and was hot. But I didn't get the $5 mocha I ordered and was charged for. I'm not sure if the "cheese" is cheese wiz or melted singles slices? and the hollandaise sauce is clear and an odd texture.. I tried calling my Uber guy to see if he forgot the drink in his car but he never answered the phone, so not sure if that was him or the restaurant. read more

Excellent cheap, no-frills family-run neighbourhood diner. I moved to the neighbourhood about a year ago and I've been to Evelyn's for brunch almost every Saturday. Recently I've started going during the week as well, since you can be in and out in as little as 15 minutes, paying under $10 for a full breakfast and a coffee. I especially like their hash browns, which are not actually deep fried but boiled/steamed? potatoes with a few crispy sides from the grill. Feels much less heavy this way. The owners are great people, very friendly. The only way to make me love Evelyn's more is if they opened on Sundays. read more

If you ever have the craving for Homestyle cooking at a bargain price then Evelyn's is the place to be. One of the ways that I judge breakfast is by how you cook your bacon. Well, Evelyn's, you got it right. It's not greasy and it's surely not under- nor over-cooked. Since I work in the area, I'm often there for lunch and it's always a busy place. They keep things moving and the owner always has a smile on his face with a great welcoming vibe. If I were to complain about anything, then I'd only have in my arsenal that Evelyn's tends to run out of certain items on the menu which can be disappointing to some. To me, though, that just means I have to find another really great item on the menu - you'll just have to trust me when I say that it's not a difficult task. Most breakfast places you end up paying 10-15 bucks for a combo but at Evelyns the total rings to about 5-6 for bacon, pancakes and more? Am I complaining nope nope. I'm in some kind of breakfast bliss. This place is a cute little dinner that fits my budget with friendly staff. I kind of wish this breakfast place was 24/7. Evelyn's is a gem, and not exactly hidden either - it has a healthy volume of clientele. It is a very straightforward, no-frills diner, delivering very well what is expected from a typical diner establishment. A good plus is they also make Holandaise sauce and eggs benedicts! The staff is kind. The ambience is cozy, and there is bar seating on the storefront which is excellent for people- and street-watching on Broadway. Evelyn's gets five stars from me, because despite being located in Kitsilano / Arbutus, the prices are that one would find at a genuine diner, i.e. no gentrified 'diner' fare for sit-down restaurant prices. My husband and I got breakfast here a couple of times we were in Vancouver, and we loved it! Everything was really fresh and the price wasn't bad for what you got. The atmosphere was quaint and quiet, but it was fairly busy! The wait time was short and we got our food quickly. The breakfast wasn't fancy, but it was exactly what we wanted: simple and yummy! The reason I'm not giving it five stars is because it wasn't the best looking on the inside. (It was actually very unassuming from the outside and the inside.)
