What a disappointment. I imagine the high reviews are based on the raw bar experience, full disclaimer I did not have oysters. Stopped in on a Monday around 4 for an early dinner. Ordered clam chowder and the famous Eventide Lobster Roll that was voted as one of the best in Maine. Add on a sparkling water and the bill was $43!!! The lobster roll was unimpressive to say the least. No large chunks of meat at all to speak of. In fact some of the meat was shredded like cheap imitation fake crab. The brown butter was more like a congealed brown/grey sludge. I know that they set themselves apart using a steamed bun in the original in Maine, but it does not work. 1. It's not large enough to hold enough lobster to be worth $20. 2. It's tasteless, soggy and lends nothing at all to the experience. Total disappointment. The clam chowder was not thick at all and had a green'ish oil slick on top. No large pieces of clam and too many small potato cubes. The pork belly had lost all flavor by the time it was served and really didn't lend much to the stock. Overall a total disappointment and nothing that the Eventide group should be proud of. This is not at all dissimilar to my other experience at a well know name Boston restaurant. Seems like no one is really minding the shop. Steer clear until they improve. Best lobster roll I've had--and I am not a lobster-roll-person. I actually crave this lobster roll and, obviously, would get it again! The brown butter really makes it for me as it makes the lobster really moist and subtly adds to the delicate flavor of the lobster. The lobster, itself, is really appealing. They give you a good amount of large, chunky lobster-flakes, that overflow the bun! I love the bao-bao bun, too! It's gluten-free, super squishy, moist, and has a light rice-like taste to compliment the lobster filling. The service was fine. I went during a weird time, so it wasn't busy, at all. My only complaint is there was a few broken shells in my lobster roll which really made the experience 3-stars. One of the things I hate is eating scrambled eggs, or something of similar texture, and finding myself crunching on eggshells. I have been to Eventide 2 times this week. Enough said. I first learned about Eventide when I was in Portland, Maine but unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to try it in Maine. I was very excited that this place opened in Fenway! Eventide is a fast casual seafood restaurant. There is a wide selection of oysters from Massachusetts and Maine and you can choose up to 2 sauces. The sauces are super refreshing. It comes as a shaved ice infused with the sauce to your desire. The oysters are extra clean and fresh. I also love the variety of items on the menu. I tried the grilled octopus, tuna crudo, fish sandwich, and lobster roll! The grilled octopus is nicely charred and seasoned. The octopus is very meaty and substantial. Although I wish there were a few more pieces. The tuna crudo is basically tuna sashimi with a ginger and scallion garnish. The tuna was super fresh. I definitely recommend the crudo for sashimi lovers out there! You can't go wrong with ordering the fish sandwich. It isn't too pricey and it is super delicious. The fish is crispy yet soft, flaky, and juicy. I highly recommend it! The lobster roll was to die for. The bread is gluten free. I actually prefer my lobster roll in a New England bun! The lobster was super butter and flavorful. I wish it was chunkier because it was a little bit more shredded than what I am used to. They also serve a wine and beer which pairs well with the seafood! Bigger space, walk up ordering concept and less hectic "touristy". We ordered a bunch of items to share amongst the 3 of us: 3 fried oyster rolls 2 lobster rolls dozen of assorted oysters hamachi crudo salmon crudo fries cauliflower Ordering was seamless at the counter. They had no problem locating us. Food came out relatively quickly. Love all the items...the rolls held their reputation, crudos had a nice fusion of flavors and the cauliflower was huge nicely roasted. Defintely, will be back in the near future. Came here during my visit to Boston from Las Vegas. I was just looking for a spot to have lunch at in the area I was staying, yelp brought me to this place. The atmosphere was cool, I felt a little lost because I didn't realize it was counter service. The place is pricey...but it's seafood so I get it. I got the brown butter lobster roll, that was amazing! Although, the clam chowder tasted kind of weird to me and so did the cole slaw, I couldn't finish them, the soda was very good too since I've never heard of it before so that was tasty, even my son liked it. Eventide is located in the heart of Fenway. It has a fast food kind of vibe, due to its layout and fast service. The inside offers seating in wall bars and high tables. They also offer outside seating, in a moderately busy sidewalk. I was drawn to this place because of their lobster rolls, yet they did not live up to my expectations. You can select from getting a cold or warm lobster roll. They offer two sizes, which vary drastically in prices:$15/$23. During my visit I had the small lobster roll, and my fiancé had the "larger" one. To our surprise they were almost the same size, so it felt like we overplayed for an inch more. The taste was ok, but definitely they did not make the cut for my Boston favorites. We ordered the rolls with a side of fries, which are cheaper if you buy them as a combo instead of as a separate side. We also had shishito peppers ($6). Both the fries and the peppers were amazing. I left craving more of the fries, however, I would think twice before coming in for $4 side of fries. We were very excited for the opening of eventide in our neighborhood. The food here is OUTSTANDING! They have excellent beers on draft. The knackwurst is incredible. They also have an asparagus dish on the menu that is so good, we didn't want it to end. Also, if you like oysters, there is no other place to get them. They will often do $1 oyster specials. 9-11:30pm after sox home games, and during nor'easters, they would as well. The oysters are so fresh and they have an excellent variety. The village bay are the best I've ever had in my life. They have horseradish ice, which is unique and super good. You will see the owner chatting it up with customers. He's a super nice guy. YUP. Yes. Lobster roll on bao? Affirmative. The meat is sweet and stringy- in the four times I've been here, never a rubbery bite to be had. The brown butter adds a sweet, nutty touch to the meat without masking it in any way. The bao was visionary- I'm firmly on Team Butter for a lobster roll and you can miss me with that mayo mess, but ordinary bread can't handle seeping buttery goodness and the thing often falls apart. The chewy, absorbent bao is a perfect delivery system for the meat. Fries are solid too- imagine a paper bag full of only the greasy, crispy ends, tossed in herbs. Even the lemon thyme fizz was great. It's not exactly cheap but it still seems like a deal for such quality and vision. I get here whenever I'm able! read more

Delicious as expected but a couple of things gave me pause... the clam chowder was a little watery but would still highly recommend. My friend had a lobster stew which was sweet due to the coconut curry base. Both soups could have used maybe twice the amount of saltines but I was embarrassed to ask for more. The restaurant itself is a little cold which just made me long for summer but didn't stop us from ordering dessert. I had the brown butter soft serve with caramel and candied walnuts and my friend had the charred cone with blueberry compote ($6 each, mind you). Mine was amazing but I would have been happy with a 1/3 of the serving. His was very smokey... not my preference, but after his sweet lobster stew I can see how it works. Another thing which disappointed me was that the oysters were only sold by the half dozen or full dozen... I wish I could've ordered three or so. Anyway, it's an awesome addition to the Fenway neighborhood, I'll definitely be coming back since there's plenty in the menu which caught my eye! Oh my lawd! I wish I had more money so I can eat here every day! Easily the best lobster roll I've had in Boston. They serve their lobster rolls hot and on a freshly baked bread roll. Which is unlike many of the other places I've tried. Also had the clam chowder, but honestly not a fan. They do use fresh clams because the chowder is definitely on the clammy flavor side. You can order oysters and other seafood here but we didn't try any when we visited. Plenty of seating, great for groups and great lighting. Definitely bringing people here who are wanting a lobster roll. They also serve beer on tap! Always a plus!! read more

Oyster/wine bar with to-die-for fried delights. My husband and I stopped here for lunch while doing errands in the Fenway. Minimalist decor with window counters/stools and long high tables with barstools, and it has a fairly informal feel. Service was cheerful and efficient. We started with oysters and a bottle of Riesling - the oysters were fresh, delicious, and shucked perfectly (no shell splinters). My husband order the fried fish sandwich, which was delicate, buttery and crispy with the lightest breading - we both agreed it was the best we'd had and we still talk about it. The fries were also delicate and delicious, seasoned with furikake - an unexpected but wonderful twist for fries. I had the seared tuna bowl and it was fresh and delicious as well. The lobster stew, although $16 for a cup is one of the most heavenly bites of food I put in my mouth in months. I will go back and just order two. The broth, is pure lobster essence with a touch of curry. The small bites of sweet potato, ample lobster and I think what were black trumpet mushrooms, all complimented the broth and stood out on their own as well. It was a symphony of flavor. We also enjoyed the hake croquettes a great deal at $7. my husband had the fish sandwich and did not offer me a bite as I did a tasting of my broth, #stillbitter and cannot review. The brussel sprouts were fine, could use a bit more salt or bacon. The concept is good if you want great food fast. I do not necessarily love fast casual, but it has a time and place like for lunch or before an LCD soundsystem show (yes, a great fricken night it was). I'm filled with conflicting emotions about Eventide. On the one hand, it's a fabulous new source of commerce on my block, in the already bustling Fenway neighborhood, which makes me happy. On the other hand, the delicious brown butter lobster roll is about half the size that it should be for the price, which makes me sad. There are many good things about this restaurant, however. The ordering system is fast and efficient; you tell the person at the counter what you want, give them your phone number, go about your business, and then they text you when your food is ready. I've now been twice and had the lobster roll, fried oyster bun, and half-dozen oysters. All were fabulous. The oysters come with a variety of creative acoutrements, including different types of flavored ice. The lobster roll is a unique and delightful take on the classic in that it's sweeter and more tender, on a hot buttered roll. In other words: scrumptious. But it definitely won't fill you up if you're particularly hungry, so order a side of fries (also delicious). They also offer wine and beer if you need a little something to take the edge off paying $20 for essentially two to three bites of tasty lobster on a bun. Wow! This place was incredible. Part of my "eat as many lobster rolls as you can" tour of Boston. Definitely the best lobster roll I had while I was here. Everything has a slight Asian flair to it, which was so interesting. Started with oysters that were accompanied by shaved kimchee ice, which added a little heat and flavor. The lobster roll is served on a bao bun, with a lovely brown butter sage sauce on it that is just amazing. Make sure you save room for desert! They have a brown butter sage soft serve with caramel sauce that was so yummy and a ginger soft serve that was very different (not great, not bad, just different). Ambience: Order food from a server. They have some big TVs with their menu. Then you give your phone number and pick your seat. Then, you pick up your tray of food from a counter once they text you. Food: Delicious. Using a Chinese mantou bun (instead of a hot dog bun) is a stroke of genius in my mind. The bun is so much tastier. I preferred the special of octopus on squid ink bun over the lobster roll. I found that the lobster had just a bit too much butter for my liking. The portion of food to money ratio is low, but the deliciousness to money ratio is high. Service: There really isn't much service, but everyone you meet is friendly. read more

I got the Fried Oyster Sandwich - it was delicious and the bao bun was a great touch. It was hard to eat by hand (it was like a bun with filling on top, not inside the bun?) but they had forks on hand so I wouldn't hold that against them! My friend got the burger and thought it was great. We got fries to split, which were OK - very flavorful but very thin (I prefer thick cut fries) Our order did take over 20 minutes to come out, but when we did get it, they immediately apologized and gave us a free order of chips and tokens for free ice cream. The chips were good (they had a yummy seaweed? coating) but I don't recommend getting them with the fries and the fried oyster sandwich - it got way to rich by the end! We came back later for the ice cream. I got the sweet corn with blueberry compote and pie crust which was weird at first but delicious by the end! I've been to the Portland location multiple times and was excited for it to come to the Fenway area so I don't have to drive 2 hours north. A bit sad that it's not sit down... (order @ the counter and pick up food at another counter) but quality is still perfection! The brown butter lobster rolls are just like the ones in Maine. The chowder is delicious too but it's not chunky at all. Def more soupy but still full of flavor and tender pork! Of course the oysters tasted fresh and the brine was so smooth. Eventide - Fenway is a great addition to the neighborhood. Fenway is a quickly developing part of town but I've always found it missing a good seafood place - to-date, you've always had to go to Kenmore for that and be ready to shell out (har har) $40-50 per person for ICOB. I went around 6pm on Thursday and it was pretty casual - a good number of people but plenty of seating left. You walk through the line, order, and then they text you when your food is ready at the counter. Easy experience. We ordered the lobster roll ($19), the fish sandwich ($10 or $11), and the charred corn soft serve ($6). They gave us a little chip to redeem our ice cream after our entrees, which was a pro in my book because it meant we didn't have to watch our ice cream melt as we ate our hot food. Food came out quickly, maybe 5 minutes. The lobster roll was delicious and very high quality -- Chinese bao bun, minced lobster meat drenched in brown butter, and lovely chives sprinkled on top. It was pretty small however -- I've been eating 400-500 calories dinners and I was still hungry -- but it was luxurious to eat nevertheless. The fish sandwich was much more satisfying in terms of size with a big bun topped with black and white sesame seeds, a nice piece of fish, and flavorful tartar sauce with lettuce to top it all off. When we were ready for the charred corn soft serve, the counter was able to put it together for us in 2 minutes or less -- it was similarly lovely, topped with salty-sweet cake pieces and blueberry compote. The charred corn soft serve itself was very subtle and complex -- you didn't really notice the smokey smell until after a few bites when it made itself known in the back of your throat, sort of like smoking a really mild cigarette. I loved it (disclaimer: I'm not a smoker!), and the taste only improved with each bite. Overall, I'd go back, but mostly as a "treat yo'self" lunch meal or a post-work drink with coworkers. It's a bit too expensive for too little food to be a regular lunch haunt for me (as Blaze Pizza and Bennett's Sandwich Shop are both down the road for ~$3 cheaper, with far more food). But it's a great addition to Fenway and I will be back! read more
