I live across the bridge in Yardley but my community told me the best diner in the area was across the bridge so off I went. They did not lie! I immediately liked the vibe. The owner in his suit greets you at the door. You walk in to a huge table of huge cookies and baked goods wrapped to go. You can not ignore the delicious looking and huge pies and cakes on display, The breakfast menu was huge! There were also some fantastic lunch specials. I had my mind set on breakfast but I caught a glimpse of someone else's crab cake and was swayed. $14.99 for a huge crab cake, a boat of Mac & cheese, stewed tomato's, a huge bowl of clam chowder and a dessert. The crab cake was so good. Fried to perfection. The Mac and cheese was super creamy. The portion was huge. This was 2-3 meals for me. I took my dessert to go. The waitress recommended the bread pudding and she was spot on. It was sweet and the vanilla cream was so delicious. When you leave the owner will cash you out. There is a 3% charge for credit cards. He has so many regulars and has a a great rapport with so many people. I told him I would be back and he laughed and said of course you will!

Classic Greek New Jersey diner with breakfast all day, great cakes and pastries and huge portions. They are also open 24/7 should you get the urge for 3AM disco fries. Everything here is good with one exception (french onion soup). Trust me, don't order it. Overall, the inside is spotless and the service is outgoing and friendly.

This is where I go to eat with my sister, because she loves diners. She has eaten at many diners in the State, and this is one of her local favorites in the Trenton area, the other one being The Golden Dawn in Hamilton. The service here is prompt and efficient, the food is decent and copious, and the value is very good. Many people leave with take out containers, because the portions are very generous. House made soups come with most entrees and even with sandwiches, and my favorite is the split pea soup. I especially like the burgers which taste charcoal broiled.Dessert also comes with most meals - a choice of pudding, ice cream or jello. If you want to order a fancier dessert, they have a variety of fancy cakes and pies. This is a very good diner, loved by the locals.

The Ewing diner is a TCNJ student staple. I've been a few times and this place has a good diner vibe. The service is usually okay, and the food is average. The real kicker is the dessert. They have some of my favorite dessert in the area, like the blueberry cheesecake and Oreo mousse! I recommend if you're in the area looking for a solid diner.

Everyone I know raves about this diner...maybe we went on an off day. We were in the area and not sure what to eat, and figured a diner would be a good place since we were so undecided. It looked like a slow time we were seated, however they bunched us up with the only 3 other tables in the restaurant. I understand there are stations, but my chair was completely bumped up to the other table's chair, with no room if I needed to get out. Our server promptly greeted us and asked if we were ready. We needed a few minutes. We looked at the menus provided, and noticed these were more restaurant prices than diner prices. We ended up going with breakfast and fish and chips off the specials menu. The special menu came with soup or salad and a dessert. I chose a garden salad which had a good mix of veggies. We waited a very long time for our meals. We were looking for our server to get some refills on our drinks but didn't see her. The one bus boy we saw was hustling. He really was on top of things. Our meals finally came out and we got our refills. My boyfriend got eggs over easy...they were a little wet, more than usual. The potatoes were very good. The rye bread was perfectly buttered. The fish were huge, however, the fish was very wet and mushy. Only the ends were edible. The fries were very good, almost a double fry. I could only eat one of the fish. I boxed the rest up and thought maybe it would be better in the air fryer, but it still was mushy. I got the carrot cake as the dessert and had it to go. It was a good size and a good piece of carrot cake. We went to pay and was happy to see there was no credit card fee. Would go again and try some other options. Their bakery Case did look pretty amazing.

I can only say you get soup salad and desert with your dinner and dinner is delicious how can you go wrong . With a large parking garage friendly staff and comfortable seating this place is a home run . I'm looking forward to going back because truly a great value for your dollar.

This review is for breakfast only since I have not been there for anything else. Just had my 3rd breakfast at this old school diner and it was exactly like the last 2, good! This place is simple, plain and does eggs right. Their omelettes come with 4 eggs vs the traditional 3 and you get home fries and toast as you do in many other diners. However, when I ask for my potatoes crispy, they actually listen here. Also, the eggs are not over cooked and the additional items (spinach, mushrooms, etc.) are never skimped on. The only zonk for me at the place is the ketchup. Theirs is still decent but i prefer Heinz. Waitstaff is always pleasant and make sure your coffee is filled. Simple, plentiful, and just like a diner should be. If you want a hearty breakfast you need to drop by.

Update: I finally went back for the baklava cheesecake. It was there! It's totally a baklava cake stacked on a cheesecake. You can't possibly eat it as a single entity, nor would I recommend trying as you'll just mash the cake and the tastes/textures don't jive. The baklava was a bit dry, nutty, crumbly. Didn't have much in the way of honey but I assume the cheesecake was there for that. The cheesecake was excellent. So I highly recommend one of the cheesecake selections if you seek dessert here. I'mma leave the review at 4 stars for now but I intend return visits. read more

I always loved this diner but last several months when I order on DoorDash they just can't seem to get it right despite very clear instructions and the manager offered very little comfort, just inaccurate excuses and no compensation from DoorDash. Not sure what happened there, they used to be so reliable. read more

We went looking for a restaurant after dropping off a family member at the airport. Al's Airport Inn sounded OK until we saw one of those woke liberal banners on their website. We figured they probably didn't share our values so we moved on. Just serve food .OK. So we found the Ewing diner." It was 10:30 on a Saturday and the regular crowd shuffled In". Sorry ,couldn't resist. The place was packed with locals finishing up breakfast. We did lunch. I was craving a coke and what I got was a flat syrupy thing in a small glass. The reuben and grilled chicken sandwich were OK, but the fries were soggy. We like to dip fries in ranch dressing ,but the ranch was closer to creamy Italian. This place seems to be all about breakfast and that's hard to mess up. Oh, great chocolate chip cookie BTW. read more

Nice diner. Friendly staff. Nearly WAY TOO MANY omelette flavors to choose from. Wish I could of done a build your own option. Besides that, very filling. The home fries or hash browns are not good. Over cooked and under cooked at the same time. Pancakes were a good size and eggs and sausage were okay. Would come again for lunch and the desserts looked delicious. read more

I've been going to this diner for years, supported them during Corona virus. I stopped going about a month ago because of the following: it was around 9:00 pm and no one really was in the restaurant, they wanted me to sit at the counter. I didn't want to sit there and asked for a table. They have a small table which I sat at. The waitress was busy playing happy birthday cake cutting. I sat there for 20 minutes and was ready to leave. A waitress from the counter said that my waitress was busy she would take my order. I gave it to her and then sat there and watch her dance around the place while the owner watched her. Finally, 15 minutes later the waitress who should have served me was not busy and she brought out my food. The soup was cold my sandwich was missing things, and she wasn't happy when I wanted my meal to be correct. I sat there even longer waiting for her to return. I got another waitress to give me my check and I left. I did not leave a tip. This evening, I talk to the manager about what happen. He was rude. HE was yelling at me and maybe he should fire everyone and I should go eat at McD's. He told me he did want customer like me to come to his restaurant. I understand that he is confused about who pays who and who. He does not pay us to eat there but our money pays for the diner to stay open. Each week the prices increase, the meals are smaller and now they are open 24 hours. I would think that talking to customer like he did to me would only continue to customer to not eat at the diner. This is not an isolated treatment from the owner and maybe that is why people are not going there. Diners are a dime a dozen it's time to look for another. The clock is ticking on the future of this diner. read more

I went to this diner thinking it would have some good matza ball soup, don't get me wrong the soup was good, but that's all it was, 1 matza ball and the broth, No Carrots, No celery, and they charged me 6.00 dollars for each soup, I got 4 of them, I went back to complain and was told that's how it's suppose to be served he knows because he is Jewish, I worked16 yrs. For a Jewish country club and it was a tradition to serve matza soup with carrots and celery,I kept the soup because I wanted it but will never go back to that diner... read more

This is my second attempt to give this place a chance. A few months back I went to this place for French toast and eggs over medium. I was the only person there but for some reason when I got my eggs and French toast It was cold. My eggs weren't cooked properly still see clear yolk and neither were my French toast. I figured maybe they had a new cook or it was an off day. I sent it back wait a bit. Now eggs are over cooked and French toast soggy in the middle and cold. I didn't want to be difficult so I didn't say anything I seasoned my home fries took a bite and they were cold and raw in the middle. At this point I did want to make the manager aware. I feel if I have a restaurant I would like to know these things to better serve other customer's moving forward or maybe switch some staff members around for better results. I saw it as a learning opportunity, in the case that it was a new cook. I mentioned it to the manager although it may have been owner from how the servers responded to him. Nonetheless, I let him know and he was not pleasant at all. He looks at me and says "Okay so what do you want me to do?" tell him I wish to change my order I don't want uncooked food. A bit abruptly he grabs my plate and the server returns I ask for wings instead this time. I thought this should be easier to make. However, after waiting for a bit I get my wings and they are cold. I was confused, again I was the only one there except for a couple that just walked in. I tell the same man "Hey they are cold feel them." He is not in the best of moods and says to me "So now what? What do you want now?" I told him I don't want this cold food nor did I want salmonella which is why I sent my original order back. Now, months go by, I go back with a friend maybe this time it'll be different I say to myself. The food was cooked properly, the server was nice but when I got the bill I was taken aback by the amount. I was told when I asked about adding onions and peppers to my omelette it was only 50 cents each but on the bill it was 1.50 each. Three dollars for this, whoa. The overall check was a lot more than what I'm used to paying in a diner and I like diners but not this one. The server was sweet so I did want to give her a nice tip but I feel that the portions vs the prices are a bit much compared to other diners in the area. Ultimately, it's your choice where you wish to spend/invest your money, for my human based on the vibe, the food and its prices not the place. read more

I really like the newly revamped diner. The menu is slightly overwhelming but that is to be expected at a diner. The food I've had has all been delicious, fresh, hot and plentiful. Our servers have been kind and attentive and the desserts are delicious. As far as diners go, I put this one first when I crave the diner experience. read more

I came in with the fam one day after hearing this diner was off the charts...such a disappointment. I ordered the pancakes and received them crunchy and crispy. Then I tried the french fries...they were also crunchy and crispy. Not to mention my wife's hamburger tasted and looked like a hockey puck. Our waiter was nice, but a tad creepy. The prices were also high, especially for the quality of the meals. I was hoping to eat at the best diner in NJ, but unfortunately that was not the case. read more

Stopped by for dinner on a whim and it was disappointing. The service was mediocre and food not very good. We got paninis and they were just ok. The bread was terrible which was unfortunate. They came with soup which was nice. The kids meals were decent and were big portions for the price... should have ordered them. Would not return. read more

So I went back again. This time we decided not to do sandwich fare and went for the dinner specials. My revised advice.... dont. Stick to basic diner fare. Food was bland, although portions were just ok. Cake was stale, and soup was really salty. Below is my review from about 6 months ago True diner atmosphere. Service was fast. French Onion soup was tasty, but way too salty. Bow tie soup was much better. Food come out fast. Nice sized portions. Gyros and burgers were fresh with generous sides. read more

I seem to remember this prefab diner being delivered and installed a few years ago. Nice job making new look retro. It is not as big as I was expecting, but well maintained and definitely creates its own unique carnival-like atmospherics. Stopped in for breakfast recently and took a seat at the counter. Big breakfast menu, and a cup of coffee were placed in front of me before I had a chance to squirm to a comfortable position on the spinner. Impressive attentiveness. The servers wore smiles and were warmly engaging. I opted for a breakfast sandwich on a Kaiser roll. I thought that was all I would get for the reasonable price. However, my waitperson then asked if I wanted Home Fries or Fresh Fruit with it. Potatoes or fruit on top of what was already a big bite. Thinking quickly for that time of day, I suppressed my surprise and inquired if it was possible to have half of each. I wanted to sample more. She nodded in appreciation. Now, most Sausage, Egg and Cheese 'wiches come with a single sausage patty, one fried egg, and a slice or two of American cheese. Not this baby. It came with two patties, one egg, and a load of melted cheese that had to be three or four slices. The Home Fries took up a third of the large plate, and the Fruit Cup was a nice mix of Cantelope, Watermelon, Pineapple, Grapes, Blackberries and Strawberries. Needless to say, this was more than a single meal, and much more than I wanted to consume early in the morning, so I tasted a bit of everything, but could not finish anything. I had a momentary qualm about the over the top quantity of food, the obesity epidemic in the US, and starvation elsewhere. It felt excessive and indulgent. While everything tasted good, if I return I will make a conscious effort to ask them to give me less. read more

My partner and me went to the Ewing Diner yesterday for a late lunch. We have driven by many times and admired the outside decor. I was surprised and somewhat delighted to actually have to wait for a table: The Place was packed! A good mixture of young and mature folks which normally means: good food! The servers where buzzing around, all very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Pork Roll Sandwich that came with French Fries and soup as a first course. The soup was chicken & noodle, came prompt and was hot and delicious. I do prefer soup with a little more and stronger flavors but for a diner that caters to the mainstream it was what I expected (my chicken noodle soup has more parsley, lemon and stuff in it). The Pork Roll sandwich was not good. Too slices of absolutely DRY rye bread with some thin slices of pork roll in between. No butter or anything just the plan bread and pork roll. How uninspired and I could not eat it without constantly sipping water, that's how dry it was. French Fries were okay, just regular fries, hot and crispy, needed a dash of salt and a few sprinkles of hot sauce. All in all a good mainstream diner, nothing I would go out of my way for but okay. read more

i wind up in trenton about once a year or so for a week for business and i always make a point of coming to the ewing diner for lunch at least once and many times two or three times. Typical diner with a million offerings but everything has always been good. You are coming for diner food so expect that. Salads, sandwiches, soups, etc. But i have also had a really good chicken pot pie there for lunch and of course good omelettes and eggs of all sorts. Easy to get in and out over a lunch hour and you will definitely be full. read more

Cute retro diner. I was overwhelmed by the breakfast food options. There were hundreds of things to choose. I ordered an omlette. First of all..the food was huge so you get plenty for your money. Trust me! I was here with some coworkers and everyone's orders seemed pretty good. I never seem to fill up but this place did me like that. My coworker finished my meal. I don't know where he put his and mine in this slim body but man..he packed it all in. I would go back and try something different if I came back to the area. read more

Stopped in for dinner before our son's concert at TCNJ. Great diner! Note to reviewers with food complaints - when at a diner stick with the classics - Reuben, triple decker club, pancakes.... Love the bowl of soup with the sandwiches - added bonus. Our server Ronnika was fabulous and made us feel like we were welcomed guests in her home. Will definitely go back in our trips to TCNJ. read more

Hands down my favorite diner ever! Perfect for everything from breakfast to late night food runs. Perfect for both college students and the locals. The food is really good and the prices are so cheap. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but some of my go-to favorites are the French onion soup, pancakes, and their eggplant parm sub. They also make a great veggie burger (options for vegans/vegetarians). read more

GREAT FOOD and service was exceptional. Easy to find from TCNJ and soup to NUTS. Had the Gyro and of course the Tzatziki Sauce was fantastic. Started with Home made Beef Barley soup, then the main course. Of course a pickel spear on top of fresh Cole slaw. My wife had the freshly cooked rice pudding. Delicious read more

While the service was good the food was horrendous. Everything was old - the chicken, bacon, eggs (from a carton). They reheat the chicken and the bacon but it definitely was just sitting out there. I would never ever ever go there again. Management absolutely needs to do better read more

The Ewing Diner is your basic NJ diner. Massive menu with all the staples and a few fun specials, that unfortunately aren't vegetarian so I've never had the pleasure of trying them. Their substitution policy is inconvenient- I had to BEG for one slice of toast instead of homefries. Wait staff is friendly and attentive on a good day, even though I've had a foul-mouthed, foul-spirited waitress at the counter who didn't think I could hear her dropping f-bombs and complaining about her fellow workers. I will keep going here because it's convenient and average priced, and because no matter how hard I try, I just can't get my omelettes to fold like they can. read more

This place is supported by college students who don't not demand high-end food. The food had no individual flair. It was painfully ordinary. The service by Allura was great, the corned-beef hash canned. The fries were coated with flour which gives them a longer tray life. All in all not earth shattering and not inexpensive. We did not try much so I can't guaranty what experience others will have, of course. read more

I had dinner at the Ewing Diner last night. I was very pleased with the staff and friendly service. My food was served quickly and it was hot. I was happy with the large portion size and they have great specials. There was plenty of parking and its easy to get to from route 1 or 95. I would definitely dine there again! read more

This is literally the best diner I have ever been to, and I have a lot of loyalty to my hometown diners. The ewing diner has incredible service at every hour of the day, and is even worth a wait. The amount of food they give you is incredible so I always have something to take back to my dorm (even if it is just a cup of soup I didnt eat with my meal). Also the first place that offered to make me fries as my choice of potatoes for breakfast! read more

Food was ok, our waiter was very good but when we got there we were greeted by who I assume was the manager. He stopped us in the vestibule area and asked if we had a reservation? Which we did not. I have never had to make a reservation at a diner. He asked how many people over and over and had to see if he could fit us in. When we finally went unto the diner, the place was empty, only about 5 tables were taken. It was very rude the way the manager was acting. It seemed as if he did not want our business. If we were not crunched for time, we would have went elsewhere. read more

I am a New Jersey native and currently live Nutley. Diners are in my blood. I love them, basically due to the fact that most of them serve great food and have good service. However, post Covid, all this has changed. I find that many of the diners I frequent now serve subpar, prepackaged, frozen food rather than the fresh made menu items of older days. I was visiting friends in Pennsylvania this past week and asked if there were any really good diners, to which they responded, "Yes, in NJ, not around here." So we crossed over to NJ and went to the Ewing Diner. There was a bulletin board in the lobby showing the diner had been rebuilt a few years ago. The interior is your standard diner layout. Booths, counter, tables and chairs. Being of larger stature I sit at tables. They leave plenty of room between tables which was great, as I hate bumping into other peoples chairs while dining. They have a wide variety of foods to choose from plus their daily specials and early bird menus. Most of the daily specials come with soup or salad, 2 sides, & dessert. I ordered cream of mushroom soup, baked pork chops with cauliflower au gratin and pickled beets, & German chocolate cake for dessert. Everything was perfectly cooked. Portions were great and I did bring home a doggie bag + the cake. My friend ordered 1/2 roasted chicken dinner, and his wife ordered a bacon cheeseburger & fries. Their food was delicious and well cooked as well. Our waitress was very pleasant and frequently checked on us to make sure all was okay. An older gentleman, I'm going to presume was the owner or manager asked us and other patrons asking if all was okay and if we needed anything. pitiful very rude hostess and owner appears to be racist went for lunch with half black daughter and her boyfriend and after complaining of poor service and one of the meals not being good the police showed up saying that the owner called and stated that thewere threatened by us?! what an outrage we were not rude or disrespectful in any way i am the wife of a soldier and PTA mom locally and was very shocked and disappointed at the bias behavior of this diner we were asked not to come back and falsly accused of making threats i would not advise any of my colleagues friends or family to eat at this establishment cant say enough how disappointed we were at theyre behavior i have eaten here with other family members in the past and thought it was a good place to go! myself as well as my 9 month old baby were not diruptive or threatening in any way?! very poor buisiness and look forward to reading about it in the Ewing Observer! I would Like to say that Gina Marie is a Great Worker. She always is There when u need anything and always have a great smile to light up your night. For now on everytime I go there I look for Gina Marie to tell her you make my night. Now for food wise the prime rib is always the best price & cook well. Honestly , I think it's not ok for children to be In this diner , The management gets upset if you complain about the food and/or Wait staff,. So... don't complain about nothing . Sometimes I witnessed the waitstaff being yelled at and treated like they are children on the floor in front of customers. The owner of this restaurant is a rude, intolerant jerk who does not deserve your business. It's remarkable that the servers are sweet and polite, since management treats is customers like garbage that they can't get out the door fast enough.
