First, it's a beautiful place, and the large dancing floor is excellent! The staff as all that works there extraordinarily lovely and we're pleased to talk too. This place oversells its venue; the atmosphere is very aggressive, and it should be known if you're planning on dancing that you're going to get a lot of negative energy; although I danced most of the night, I felt that I needed to leave around 130 probably should've left around 12 because it was so packed I could barely move my arms and feet there was no dance chemistry or atmosphere here PLUR vibes zero people. Women had on sandals. And were constantly getting stepped on and why should I feel bad for that? Do You let people in with sandals? i Must I've stepped on ten people's feet? with sandals!‍ Paying for this venue was like paying for a day at a festival was costly; water was seven dollars which would be perfectly fine if the atmosphere was welcoming to all. I felt you were anything other than a body that stood very still; you were a problem to everybody that paid to get in, and everybody wanted to experience the venue last night, but no one had any room to breathe. I'm sure this is a regular occurrence at this place. I want everybody to understand how important it is for safety and that if a fire had started or anything had started where people needed to exit the club in an emergency matter, people would be hurt and trampled on, possibly injured, or too near-death or death that's how important that people need to understand how packed it is in there it is packed to each exit door with no room to walk around. i hope we get club soon that cares for the people that pay and what to have a safe plur night out! Venue is so small and air circulation is non-existent. I have been here twice and both times I felt like in was going to faint from heat exhaustion. The 2nd time I came was for the Engadget event and there were so many people it was difficult to get from 1 end to the other and with the heat... it was unbareable. My cousin and I came here with several of her friends, it was my first time going to a club in Los Angeles and we had a lot of fun dancing and laughing and trying not to get lost in the dark but I thought the bathroom was gross someone peed all over the seat and I was like that's nasty so I just walked out it was crowded and hot in there, but it was fun. I only didn't like that it was so hot in there and the toilet had pee all over it. I got elbowed so many times, and my hair pulled a few times and someone grabbed my butt once, so I dunno. I always have mixed reviews about LA nightclubs but I do like Exchange LA quite a bit! I have been here on two occasions now, one with guest list and one through ticket purchase and I have had a positive experience with both. * TICKETS / GUESTLIST * Tickets can range anywhere between $20-50 depending on the artist you're going to watch and what day of the weekend you'll see them. Guestlist policy will also vary based on that same fact. Ticket surcharge/tax fees are $4.95 each BUT you can get $1 off your price by sharing a Facebook post or Tweet at the confirmation page. You can also use promo codes if you have any. Guestlist may have even ratio sometimes but most of the time it is free entry for ladies and a discounted rate for men by 11pm. Whereas in other clubs you must be INSIDE by 11pm, Exchange simply requires you to be IN LINE by 11pm. I think that's a really cool concept, but be warned: the GL line is obviously going to be slower. Side note: security doesn't usually check the name on the ticket, they just make sure you have one. So if you plan on reselling/buying them, you CAN do it, but don't take my word for it since you're technically not allowed to. * VENUE * Like most LA nightclubs, Exchange is on the smaller side. On the first floor you'll find a club room with a small/lesser known DJ spinning along with a full service bar and you will also find the restrooms at the end of the hall that lead you to the smoking area outside. A merch booth may or may not be set up by the entrance as well. * VIP / BOTTLE SERVICE * On the second floor you will find the main room with an outer bar and hall, and a VERY COMPACT dance floor. If you have VIP access or bottle service however, you will get a wristband that allows you to enter the balcony. This upper level features 2 full service bars on opposite ends of the balcony, and a slew of tables across the entire level. There is also a separate bathroom on this level so you won't need to go all the way down to the first floor to use the loo! Highly recommend contacting a promoter for VIP access or table service as the dance floor can get VERY crowded and thus, very hot. Pro tip: DJs will generally be walking around the upper level so it's a great way to meet them! * SECURITY * Security, to be quite honest, is a joke here at Exchange. At the front gates, they'll check your ID and scan your ticket on your smart phone, check the inside of your purse if you're a female and do a pat down if you're a male. There are, of course, a list of prohibited items you can find on their website, but as I found many guests inside with pipes and joints I would say they are a little lenient with bag check and they don't really enforce it on the dance floor either unless you're a nuisance to everybody else. * PARKING * Easiest method is purchasing their valet option online for $10. If you want to try your luck around the neighborhood, most lots and garages will be around that price. If you don't mind the extra walk, you can park your car until 6am at the lot on 7th and Hill for a wonderful $5! Beware, however, this lot will have some homeless people nearby. * DRINKS * A bottle of Fiji water costs $8 and cocktails will vary from $10+. I would highly recommend pregaming before arrival as they can get pretty expensive after a few rounds. Overall, I would highly recommend coming to this place if you're looking to have a good time. Would I compare this to a nightclub in Vegas? Certainly not by any means! But it is worth the trip, especially if you're a fan of the EDM scene. read more

Only giving them a star because I have to but I would rate it a 0 if I could. What was meant to be a fun night turned out to be a terrible experience. My friend had her license confiscated in the entrance by security and was told she was not going to have it returned. My friend is clearly the person on her license (I would have understood if she drastically changed) so I am def questioning the measures this business takes to verify ID's because it's pretty invalid. We were suggested to call LAPD which we did and no response of course. We waited outside for about 2 hours for a police officer to drive by and we were able to wave an officer down to come help us and confirm that was her identity which they did because it was very obvious that it was her. The steps this business took was ridiculous, the lack of professionalism, the entitlement of some of these workers, and poor customer service was also ridiculous. read more

Exchange LA - Dance Clubs Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Exchange is one of my favorite clubs in LA, located downtown in the old stock exchange building. They are open from 10pm-6am on Fridays and Saturdays. Fridays they typically feature a Trance Dj for "Awakening" and Saturdays they feature a House Dj for "Inception". Their House music lineup is awesome and they often bring Djs that don't frequently play in LA. Guest list runs until 11pm, and unlike most clubs they will honor your spot on the GL as long as you are in line by 11. The ticket line moves the fastest, if you want to spend some money and not worry about what time you need to arrive. The guest list line is the slowest but at this point in my life I would rather wait a little longer than buy a ticket. The staff that I have encountered have never been rude, which is sometimes hard to come across in a club atmosphere! Once inside, the bottom floor has one room with a bar and dj, as well as the bathrooms. Upstairs is the main dance floor. There is a bar at the top of the stairs, and a bar on each side of the dance floor. There are some tables on this floor, and a balcony with only bottle service tables. Within the past year they added a bigger LED screen which is AWESOME. I liked the club before but I like it even more now with the screen. Don't forget about the confetti! Drink prices are average for a club; $12 for a well vodka tonic. The sound system is great quality. So far, I haven't experienced many creepers here. Of course once you hit 4am it turns to the weird part of the night so just be prepared for that haha. I always look forward to coming here and haven't had a bad experience. There is lots of parking down Spring street and LA Cafe across the street is open 24 hours if you get those post-club munchies/drunchies. read more

My friends and I were so excited and having fun and dancing then all of a sudden a ton of people come out of no where throwing punches and fighting! The security did absolutely NOTHING they did not break up any fights all they did was shine a flash light around The security then grabbed my friend who got jumped by 10+ people and told him he's never allowed back at another insomniac event when he was the one who got jumped! Then they took my whole group who also ALL got punched in the face for NO reason and the other people throwing the punches and did absolutely NOTHING with either of us but tell my friend he has to get stitches and he's not allowed back to another event. They took everyone's ID's and information down and then proceeded to give each of us a plastic glove with ice when they have split open lips and eyebrows. Then, another security guard is outside saying everyone at the club is on drugs and to not worry about it? What is WRONG with this club I'm absolutely disappointed in this place. I've been going to insomniac clubs, concerts, festivals for 6+ years and I have NEVER had such a horrible experience with both the STAFF and crowd! Kept hearing how awesome Exchange LA was, and a friend had been here previously and had a great time. So a group of us decided to check this place out as we were in the dancing mood. We bought tickets online, which is highly recommended because the line to purchase tickets was huge! We got there around 10:30, and the place was pretty empty. But an hour later, it got crowded. Drinks were ridiculously overpriced and super watered down. At least I didn't have to worry about getting dehydrated. The main dance floor upstairs gets super packed. Not sure about the downstairs dance floor since I never made it there. This place gets a little ghetto with people fighting in the middle of the already super crowded dance floor. At least there was a fight that night. Now let's talk about the music. Seriously not the business, couldn't even dance to it. Awful music. Came here to see Laidback Luke spin and do his thing. This venue was tucked away and you would have to find parking or valet. Dance area was two story, top for the VIP and bottom for the general admission. Pack to the max event, people were chill and cool, everyone one there was really just there to have a good time and enjoy some bass dropping EDM tunes. Because of the enclosed area in the dance area, you were able to feel every bass hit and the sounds of the change up of the music. Overall experience here was great, I would only come back here if a performer that I knew was coming here. Two bars upstairs and down, separate room downstairs for a different type of music and crowd and a smoking patio. Bathroom were actually clean and filled with toilet paper. read more

This is one of my favorite clubs in DTLA. I have never had a bad time. I went there last night after bouncing from Chaya, to Drago to an event at the Bonaventure, to Perch, to the Falls (couple of doors down) and then to the Exchange. I didn't get home too late to the OC (around 1:30 after stopping at my 24 hr Mex drive thru joint Albertos-lol). The last time I was here was a couple months ago when we started at Drago, then the Standard, Exchange and closed down the Edison. That night (or day-lmao) I got home @ 4:30. That night was effin cray! Everyone bitches about the lines, the stairs, et al but I have never had any issues. You do need to figure out the program so get on the list oe whatever so you don't have to be general population. In my case, my friend works at the Falls and I can get in with my whole crew even on Fri. I usually go on Thu when there is no cover (its $20 on Fri) because the crowd is more mixed. The music is bumping (house), the club is jumping (big dance floor and when I am sober I remember there are two levels) and the drinks though expensive, will knock you on your ass. I prefer Thu night because I usually get the stink eye (dirty looks) from da Asian wahines when I am not with an Asian wahine. WGAS (who gives a $hit)! Service was the worst couldn't even get through getting my tickets scanned when I was inappropriately groped by an employee during a security check. I understand the importance of making sure things are in order. But after asking the employee to let go of my breast to reveal a lip plumping gloss. I had to full force push her off me to get her to release my breast. I was then verbally harassed by the outside bouncers while running out who assumed that I had drugs. And I quote "aww she left because she didn't wanna throw out her drugs", the outside bouncers continued to laugh while I had just been sexually harassed by an employee. I have filed a police report and can only hope that this woman can no longer try these things on others! August 23rd, 2013. That's the Friday night I went here when Shogun was playing. My friends and I bought presales and were able to get in no problem. A few pros and cons about this place... 1. Pro - Holy crap the sound system is bangin'. The next morning I woke up with my ears ringing and half deaf. 2. Pro - The venue is actually pretty nice. All my NorCal folks...imagine a Ruby Skye but bigger screens, more lights, louder system, more modern look. 3. Pro - This is the very first club I've experienced this...my friend was super drunk (more drunk than I was on my own birthday...how irresponsible right?). So the bouncers were nice enough to warn us and suggested for us to go into this room near the bathroom for her to stay in until she is sober enough to walk without stumbling. I thought they were going to kick us out or lead us out a back door but it was literally a room full of people too fucked up. After she sobered up a bit, they simply let us continue the partying! I've never had an experience like this and is something I really appreciated. 4. Con - Drinks will cost you about $15 a drink. Make sure you get there drunk. Also, a short note to the Yelper that complained about EDM music to the EDM DJ playing that night. Why complain about EDM music at an EDM club. That's like me saying I went to a pizzeria, asked them to make Chinese food because I don't like pizza, and then get rejected. That's like me in the Apple store asking for a GS4. You can rate them 1 star for everything else...but for playing EDM music? Preposterous. read more

There's so much I can say about Exchange because I've been there so many times! Well, only on Awakening Fridays... Insomniac brings in the best djs! The only things I dislike is that I have poor reception inside (t-mobile) and the lines can be long. There is valet parking, a parking structure nearby, and you can find parking on some streets. But for the last option, you have to move your car by 2 am. The venue is a decent size and looks cool. There are three floors, the third one being a balcony floor overlooking the main stage, but usually it's reserved for tables. There are also side rooms with couches. Exchange has a lot of places where you can sit... that's a big plus since they open till 3 or 4. The crowd is mostly asian. The dress code is not strict, so you'll see a mix of casual and dressed up people. It feels like going to a concert because it seems most of the crowd is there to see the djs, therefore a lot of standing and staring straight and jumping around. Great sound system so it can be really loud! Bring some earplugs. Get some etymotic earplugs so that it doesn't sound muffled :) Great lights and lasers, they look more amazing from the balcony. The bars are easy to access (I can remember 5 total) and the service is usually quick. The drinks are not cheap but that's expected... so just do what I do and drink beforehand too! If you know a promoter, they can let you know if there are any deals going on, and sometimes you can get a free well drink with your ticket. Oh another cool thing at this venue is that they have a recovery room... Hahahah so if you or your friends are too drunk, you won't get kicked out but you'll just get sent to the recovery room, where they nurse you back to health with water and trashbags. and I think I even saw someone with a foil blanket! I've never been taken there myself (hehe!) but I've had to rescue friends a couple of times. There's even a quick exit so you can bring your car around and pick up your friend through the back... It doesn't mean no one sees you though, because it's right next to the crowded smoking patio. Now on the other hand, if you don't end the night in the back alley of Exchange, there are many bacon wrapped hot dog carts outside the regular exit. But get them quick before they start running away from the cops! read more

I just want to start by saying this club aesthetically is TIGHT! However, my review is going to be a bit biased simply because the party was being hosted by Puffy. Just to clarify, it was his party at Exchange LA, I don't think that Hip Hop was their typical Sunday night crowd. The decor was very modern, sleek, and spacious. I was fascinated by a row of trees that lined a long walk way with these luminous blue lights. Definitely the type of place you would shoot a video or hold an art exhibition. So we get up to the 2nd floor, the main room has a loft top and bottom level. Diddy is hanging over the top with the DJ, (Chris Brown shows up -Yes)the music is good, they spinning tracks from my freshman year, playin' everything! I had no problems getting my cran and grey goose at the bar, no problem meeting up with a crew of cool guys to dance & drink with. What can I say?? Yes! The night was a Success, the Bay area kids+ Puffy know how to GET IT IN! Every time I had an empty drink in my hand, she would notice and refill my drink right away. I parked all night for $5 down the street. The ambiance was nice. I saw Major Lazer here. First time coming to LA exchange with my friend. We're both from Honolulu, Hawaii. We didn't know what to do while waiting in line. The guards told us to wait in the other line if we didn't have tickets. Tickets were $30 per person to get inside LA exchange. If you didn't buy tickets it's better to buy at the door cuz there's no line and you get inside faster, compared to the line where you already got tickets online! This night club is nothing similar to the one's in Honolulu. This night club has 3 floors to it! 1st floor was like the small electron room 2nd floor you have the big Stage with LED lighting and base 3rd floor is like the VIP area where you can see the stage from above There was plenty of people going to this club! The whole stage was literally packed with people! Everyone is dancing and having a great time! We're from Hawaii so we only know like local drinks like Midori sour and STP. Went to the bar and they were like "what's a STP" They didn't know what it was or know how to make it so I told them to make us a LA Waters instead. The drinks were a little to pricy but this is LA nothing is gonna be cheap like Honolulu. Other than that the night club was amazing! We were there from 11:30pm-4:00am! They stop serving alcohol around 2:00am. They will literally go to person to person to take away your alcohol and throw it in the bucket! That was funny cuz we never saw something like that in Honolulu so it was surprising for us! Next time I come to LA for sure I'm going to stop by this night club and have some fun! read more

This place is nice. I have been here numerous times. The whole club itself looks quite classy. There is a nice lounging area downstairs where people could sit around the benches, and another bar/lounge in a larger room I assume is used by large social events. But it seems like this lounge closes early... like at around 10:00 P.M. where everybody inside is asked to go upstairs. They have a nice stairwell going upstairs to more bars and a dance floor. Then above the dance floor are VIP tables for whomever who chooses it. The music played when the night is young... like at around 10ish is regular hip hop, and sometimes Top 40 Pop music. There's not much energy during that time since party goers are just getting inside. As the night progresses, the music gets more hip and trendy. That's probably the best time to be there. But, it also has a lot to do with the style of the DJ and its promoters. Believe me, some promoters really stink. Meaning the music is not as good, and they're unorganized. But the music depends on your personal preference and style. Anyhow, this place is quite hip. I like the music they play during the night. It has good a beat, and their stereo system is quite powerful which makes a big difference in a club. There are a lot of hip and good looking people inside. Of course, there are a lot of drunks too as it surpasses midnight. I love it when they pass out the glow sticks! Nice place to visit once in awhile. I have no idea how I never went to Exchange until two weeks ago. Seems like an egregious misstep on my behalf! So to make up for an extreme lack of lost time, I went 3 times in 8 days. Ok, truthfully, I'm not THAT bored. But when you have a 30th birthday to celebrate, and then Emma Hewitt (my fave!) and Nadia Ali show up on back to back nights? My EDM heart demands an appearance! If you're actually planning to come here and you don't have guest list, get the tickets beforehand. Because, much to my surprise, cover is actually way more expensive when you just show up. Ok, lesson learned. And if you arrive early enough (anytime before 10:30 PM), the line is a breeze. The place doesn't really start filling up until after 11 PM and doesn't start getting to annoying levels of sardine-packed until 12 AM. I actually appreciate the design of the club, especially when you compare it to the disaster zone that is known as Hakkasan in Las Vegas. All the tables are either way on the side or on the balcony level, leaving the entire dance floor wide open. Easy access to the bars too, because they're on either side of the dance floor. Of course, the thing that makes Exchange stand out HAS to be the EDM! The speaker placement is epic. Literally, if I want to just blast my ears out and FEEL DAT BASS, the speakers are on the floor. Just stand next to either one on the back, you'll get your fill. LED wall's pretty sick, it goes all the way to the roof and I was told they invested something like $200,000 on it. Also love the laser setup, although admittedly I am a huge sucker for lasers. And lastly, I'm glad there's a place that can attract top-level talent. I was THIS FREAKING CLOSE to Emma Hewitt! :) P.S. To you, the person that was jumping up and down and putting your elbow in my face, then puked on the floor 15 minutes later and made a good chunk of the floor smell like vomit. First time here was great ! Saw Wiz Khalifa on a Friday night. The place was open from 10PM-3PM. Wiz came on at about 1:45AM which I didn't mind! His set was short but still very enjoyable. I was front row! Vibe was cool. No rude staff what so ever. If anything they're just doing their job! Bartender was very cool and catered to our needs. Only negative thing I'd have to say is that I noticed the drinks were a little watered down. Bathrooms were super nice and so were the attendants! Will definitely be coming back soon. read more
