Ultimately I didn't end up renting a unit due to security concerns of the unit itself. Beware!- Dishonest business practices!!!!! Call and they tell you they have a storage space for price 'x' amount. When you are there renting the space they say you must have insurance and you must have a copy of it with you. If not, you pay $14.95 for theirs. "You can not rent with out insurance". After you argue for 10 minutes they'll admit you can decline the insurance. Then there is a $25- administration fee that they don't tell you about. Administration fee? WTF? This is a storage space. Intentionally, unapologetically deceitful- Rot from the top all the way down. read more

I used to have a favorable opinion of Extra Space Storage when I had my belongings stored at their location on Santa Monica Blvd between Van Ness and Bronson. Now, all that has changed. This location in particular is very dishonest and when they do business with their customers, their actions are not transparent. I had reserved my unit online and had gotten a first month free deal. This is how they lure you in. On the date of move-in, to give them my contact information, they had me enter it into their computer since "they're paperless now". I did so, and Benjamin then scrolled to the bottom of the screen, telling me to click this button to confirm. Done. Now, just months later, they've raised my rent 11%. ELEVEN PERCENT! That's almost three times as much as an annual cost of living increase! And this is only six months later! When I was at their other location for TWO YEARS, I never once had a rate increase. Now, I would understand if Extra Space provides some sort of service that involves fuel costs or whatnot, but they're a storage facility. Maybe they're not able to fill all their units and so they feel the need to impose rate hikes on all their existing customers. ACROSS THE BOARD. They've got to be increasing their revenue rather healthily, considering how many units are at the facility. That's a great way to express gratitude for the customers you do have, Extra Space. It didn't do Netflix much good, did it? I called their corporate office to complain and I was told the district manager, Manuel Sierra, would call me back. That didn't happen - instead, a woman named Lynn Holiday (who was probably his assistant because he can't be bothered with menial tasks such as these), called me to explain I had a month-to-month lease, which was subject to rate increases. I was never notified of this increase, by email or snail mail, even though they have all my contact information. On my move-in date, it was never explained to me that there would even be a possibility of a rate increase but my clicking of a button on their computer was considered acknowledgement. How shady is that? Complete bait and switch. I asked them if this is how they do business. Yes, that's how it is. I said I would complain to the BBB and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and they said to go right ahead. By their actions, it's obvious this company does not value customer relations. And if that's the case, how much do they value your personal belongings? read more

This place gives me nothing but headaches and road rage. I'm not surprised at the low ratings but I'd be shocked if the good reviews aren't fake. In the six years I've been here my rent has gone from $80 to $163 for a 5x5 space, and since I use auto-pay from my bank, I never even know it's increased until they call me and demand more money or I get there and I'm locked out because I owe them $7 or $1. It was $156 earlier this year, then suddenly it's not. I've also been randomly locked out on other occasions or trapped inside. If it's during business hours, someone will usually fix the glitch, but if it's not, then you're screwed. They have a 24-hour service number you can call, which doesn't help when you're directed to someone on the east coast who can do nothing to help and just asks a lot of questions, like "where are you calling from?" and "what's your unit number?" I've often had to rely on the kindness of other customers (I'm assuming they're customers) to get in and out of the facility. This evening, in particular, I drove over with a car full of boxes and was unable to enter because my code randomly wouldn't work. It was after office hours, but the gates are supposed to open until 10PM with your code. I see other customers inside and see that I'm current on my payment, but alas, I'm locked out again and forced to reverse out of the tiny driveway in the middle of one of the worst intersections in LA with my car full of boxes. Maybe my rent has increased for the 3rd time this year or there's another glitch? Who knows. But I do know I'd only recommend this place to my worst enemy. You have been warned. read more

Unfortunately I have to give this place one star. I've had nothing but trouble with my account and even was locked out at one point! The office is currently going though management changes and no one seems to know what's going on or have any power to make decisions. The customer service is bad. Though they seem as though they are trying, they are just not helpful. I prepaid for a locker because it was the last 8x10 then when I moved in I decided to take a 10x20. They told me I get a free first month with the larger one but made me pay the difference anyways telling me the next month would be free - well that month came and they charged my card. It took me weeks to figure it out, calling everyday etc. Finally I just happened to go in when the district manager was there and he fixed things in 2 mins. What I struggled for weeks to sort out with the staff he fixed in 2 mins!! Then! After paying for the 10x20 I talked to the manager about moving to a smaller unit since I decided to clear out a lot of my stuff. He told me no prob and that I would be prorated the difference form the dare I moved. They then told me there was only one smaller unit left and they would hold it for me for a few days. To my disappointment, a day later the incompetent staff was back and they told me nope they can't hold it and forced me to move immediately to avoid it being taken. After I rushed out of my old storage unit I paid $400 for, into a new one halfway through my monthly cycle they told me their bad news: They can't give me the rate I was told just a few days prior and they won't refund me any money for moving out early into a new unit. So now I've paid $400 for Dec 21-jan 21 only to be rushed into a unit that costs $150 that they are saying I have to pay for since Jan 8. They call me to say my account is overdue and when I tell them what's going on they back out and say someone will have to call me back. GOOD LUCK WITH EXTRA SPACE :( I'm still dealing with their drama and there is still no official manager. read more

I'm reviewing the customer service provided by the Extra Storage Space Assistant Manager, Gabriel Galino. His focus and professionalism really stood out during my recent visit there. He had no other person to help with phones, plus four customers ahead of me. Gabriel made the best out of a demanding situation and followed through with each customer to be sure all their questions and concerns have been met. I do hope this office more support to its staff. The elevator can be tricky, but the staff has always been extremely helpful. My move out could not have been easier -- I was able to submit my notice to vacate online, the inspection was performed on the day I moved out, and an email confirmation was sent shortly thereafter. Mistakes happen, and they did not contact me to get a new cc number. So instead, despite having my phone number, THEY AUCTIONED THE CONTENTS/MY BELONGINGS. AFTER YEARS OF DOING BUSINESS with them. I found out after the fact. They even had my home number, and failed to use it. I am in shock. Please spare yourself and do not bring your business here. Save yourself the headache and find someplace else. I regret having moved my things to this place. They do the following: 1. Deceptive rates which increase frequently and for no apparent reason. They know that the trouble to move spaces is enough to keep a busy person in while they gouge you. 2. No one is ever in the office to answer questions and when they do it is unfriendly at best. They don't pick up the phone. 3.Closed Sundays. Who needs access to their storage on the weekend right? 4. Creepy location. As a woman, I don't feel at all safe going alone. Two things: 1) These storage spaces are very insecure - it is easy for anyone to actually reach inside over the *chicken wire*. It's a joke. 2) These people took a "refundable deposit", and after I saw how poor these units were, I declined the unit - but several months later they have STILL not refunded my deposit. Not impressed with their policies. I certainly understand SUPPLY and DEMAND, but the "operator" on the toll-free phone, (since I seemed to never be able to get anyone in person at the office or anyone at the actual local office to the phone) says that since there's one unit in the size I want, the price goes from $95 to $129. So in other words, if you get a unit when others have moved out you get a lower fare? So she offers me a different size for $95. A $34 difference? I called the next day to get the $95 unit and the operator, a different one, decides it a "time constraint" situation, that she must have my information to hold the unit and I haven't even seen the unit nor the inside of the building?? On top of that, NOW the unit is $109. In less than 24 hours your prices change $14 dollars? This is too hokey, too many prices changes, nothing consistent or a flat price. To me it's all a sales pitch and trying to get you to pay more, including the "one month free with a $22 application fee." read more

Kept my things here for 6 months. The keypads on the elevator was very temperamental and you had to type your code 8 or 9 times each time to get it to go through. Once on a Tuesday I called the elevator from the 3rd floor when I was trying to leave with some things I went in for and the elevator was broken. I waited for over 45 minutes while continuously calling the front desk and leaving messages. Nobody answered. When I finally got out and found somebody who worked there they couldn't be bothered by my complaint. The manager is rude, unfriendly, and honestly doesn't care about his job. I had problems trying to pay online and on the phone. And had to take a bus across town to pay them and twice there was nobody there to take my payment. Gate was open, hours said they were open till 6 pm, but at 3, and 4:30 there was nobody working. Go anywhere else. read more

Place is legit! First month free, easy access in and out, good customer service. Compared to other places in the area, this is the best.

I will start by saying I am not or have never been a customer at this establishment. However, my credit card information was stolen and a payment of $408.00 was placed Via phone or online at this place of business. After speaking with my bank I decided to call them to inquire about the charge. After leaving a voicemail with extra space I received a call back two days later from Celine who told me she was aware of the fraud payment that had occurred. She said they were aware of the false payment and even knew which account and person this payment had been linked to. She gave me a strange story about an unknown cousin of the primary account holder that had made the payment and the primary client was unaware the payment had even been made. This of course raised my suspicion , especially since they even knew who and what account this was referenced to. As advised from my bank, I will be filing a police report regarding this transaction and I made Celine aware of this. Not putting any blame on extra space storage but in hope of catching and preventing these credit fraud thieves from doing this again. To my surprise Celine said she would need a court subpoena to release the video they have of the people who used my card on site. This was a complete shock to me. I told her that I would just report the fraud to the police and they would conduct their own investigation. Not only do they know who did this but Celine tells me she will need a subpoena to cooperate with the police?! I would like to think that if they are aware of a crime then full cooperation and full disclosure of any evidence to the authorities would be the least thing they would do. If this doesn't raise suspicion as to the type of business this is then I don't know what will. But like I said I have never done business here and maybe you are in desperate need of storage space but things seem a little shady and dare I say corrupt if you ask me. read more

How does ExtraSpace Storage justify rent increase of 51.8% since May 2012? I look at current rates on their website. My 10x15 unit can be had for $101/mo today. Why do I have to pay $126(plus $10 ins) starting Feb. 2015? These guys are RUTHLESS..! I own a small house with tenants. How would it be if I raised their rent nearly 52% in less than 3 years? I subtracted some stars because my storage locker got burgled. The staff here are friendly and pleasant. When signing up they are great and seem really informed. The company's website is fantastic and completely reassures you that your stuff will be safe. Unique code entry, monitored video surveillance, alarmed lockers, every renter is finger printed and kept on file - so thorough. An onsite live in manager too! You can't do better than this. Until your storage locker gets broken in to. Then they take 2 weeks to tell you, because they are dialling the wrong phone number. Then it turns out there is nothing to be seen on the video surveillance (was it even checked)? The alarmed lockers haven't worked in years apparently either. As for the the giant hand print left in my locker... unfortunately all the finger prints that are taken, are not put in a database and if you close your locker they no longer have them on file. So I spent $300 on 3 months storage . I am saving $100 a month because the stuff I was storing safely, got stolen. At least the thieves were nice enough to leave my photos. ... oh and the insurance company paid out promptly - except I didn't take out enough insurance to even cover the cost of the storage boxes the stuff was in! read more

I've been a customer here for four years now and will be moving out this summer. For the first couple of years, things were great. There was a flexible, friendly staff that knew me by name in the office, and I felt secure even when I would stop by late. Things started to go sour last June when my unit was broken into and a set of family china, tons of CDs, and several other things were stolen. My lock had been broken but put back on the door (unit is an inside one) with no one from the staff realizing or checking to see it was broken for possibly months. I hadn't been by myself in a couple of months, and was told by staff that they didn't actually have any inside cameras either. To resolve things and receive any sort of compensation, I was told I needed to file a police report on my own time. Unfortunately I don't have a schedule with time for something like that so I let it slide. They never once called back from corporate after telling me this to settle or check up on anything. The insurance they say you have as part of your rent is a sham. Furthermore, I've seen my rent go up from $90 a month to $170 a month during my time there. There are no deals for longtime customers. If you plan on staying awhile, you can also plan on your rent being automatically increased at least 20% every 6-12 months, and if you fall a day or more behind, add another $20 to that plus automatically owing the next month's rent too, even if it isn't due yet. The friendly folks I mentioned earlier were all fired or quit over the last 6 months due to disputes over subpar wages and cutbacks in hours from corporate. I was sad to see them go. There are plenty of other storage spaces in Hollywood including right next door, with better deals and better staff. Don't bring your business here! read more

I would rather have stored my things some place else! There was a rate increase from 139 to 169 a month! What rising cost are they referring to, to justify this type of increase? That is absolutely ridiculous. They lure you with "the 1st month free" Which is a crock of crap b/c they raise your rent out of no where to recoup the money from the 1st month you thought was free! This is not my 1st disappointment. I went to retrieve something from my storage unit at night and there were 3 homeless men camped out just starring at me and another shady character pretending he had belongings there searching in the trash can. I think he was waiting to rob someone. Luckily there was another guy there moving in or I probably wouldn't be alive to write this complaint. They need better security or a 24hr security guard! The Staff is incredible, the easiest storage transaction I've ever had - took about 7 minutes to register, pay and be given a unit. The onsite manager is incredible as well, very hard working, great personality, and very willing to assist my family and I with whatever we need. I would highly recommend this storage facility if you live in the area and would definitely do business with them again in the future!
