The management here are VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. When questioned about their actions, there is always a sarcastic response. When individuals trust you with their personal items, and choose to do business with you when they can go elsewhere, there should be professionalism displayed. This facility has had a "temporary hours" sign posted for two weeks now. No contact from the facility or headquarters explaining this. Upon renting the unit, I was told my items could be accessed by me anytime between the hours of 6AM-10PM. I attempted to visit the facility this morning before work and the same signs are posted. When I phoned in asked why, the manager was really rude and condescending. He stated (when I questioned the hours being in the contract when I signed up) "Show me in the contract where it says that. It's not written, we just say that." I then reiterated that the hours are posted 6AM-10PM. Why is the gate to the facility opened but I cannot access my items? The conversation continued but he made me so angry, I yelled at him that I no longer wanted to speak to him because he lacked professionalism and I want someone who is more professional and can speak to me with common decency to call me regarding my concern. I'm not interested in packing up my things and moving them. I should receive excellent customer service here. Telling me that no one called because they were testing something out, is not an appropriate response. As I stated, I rented this space with the understanding that I'd have access to my items from 6AM-10PM. If that has changed, the professional thing to do is inform me in writing. If I were late with a payment, they'd reach out in writing. Keep that same energy when you're late allowing me access to my items. If you're the business owner, DO NOT RESPOND to me with a generic response. Respond stating why you did not contact me regarding this matter. Respond with why you've hired unprofessional individuals to manage the property. This is not my first issue with thus location. I've had a storage unit get for 10 plus years. Roll-up door has been broken for weeks. Worst yet, the mechanism to exit requires you to push a green button to unlock the door. Often this requires several pushes. It has been like this since we first starting renting back in January 2017. However, today 8/13, it did not work AT ALL. To make matters worse, the front office is closed on Sundays so no employees are available to help. Had it not been the kind woman who figured out a workaround, I would've been ready to call the fire dept. to break down the door. But wait, that would cause yet another entryway to be out of order. Update: Vera called the next day and was able to amend my rate to something more favorable, which is appreciated. She was genuinely kind and considerate about the matter. My unit rental also went up 30% out of the blue. Supposedly, I had been sent a notice about it, which I never received, but that didn't seem to matter. Based on other reviews, it seems this is happening to a lot of people at this location. I've had a storage unit here for 2 years. I received incremental rate increases of $10 - $15 over the years which is reasonable. This month I received $75 monthly increase with no warning and it was charged to my account. I highly recommend using another company. read more

If you are in need of a great storage unit, then this is the place. I moved California from Houston, Texas and need a place to store some items. Mr. Amaya help me meet all my needs. Customer service he had was amazing, he took the timeout to answer my questions. I thing I truly loved about his customer service, as people would enter into the facility, he took the timeout to greet them and let them know he'll be right with them. He also gave me a courtesy call to make sure I would be able to find the location without any problems. Customer service very nice until you have a complaint. When I moved my things out of storage after a little over a year. I found mold on a few of my things. After everything was moved out I noticed a small whole about the size of a silver dollar, maybe a little larger in the wall that led to outside. You could see where water leaked in from the stain. I took pictures of the hole and the items that had mold, as proof. I called the manager and he asked me to call the insurance, stating that's why they have us purchase mandatory insurance. I called the insurance company, sent pictures etc... They sent an adjuster out. Final results: they do not cover mold etc... SMH I called the storage place again to let them know the above. Final results: oh well. I'm out of speakers,Guess backpack and other items... The claim probally would have came to $200 or so... I paid them well over $200... We use the Extra Space Storage on Centinela Ave. for more than 3 weeks, the manager there M. Amaya was very friendly, he took the times to walk us through all details, storage, elevator usage etc. and to ensure we are comfortable at this facility. Not only this Extra Space Storage is well runs, it's very clean and with ample parking spaces for loading and retrieve our storage items. Of all the businesses and places I would have expected to experience amazing customer attention a storage business would have never even made the list, but Juan at Extra Space Storage changed that assumption. From our first interaction on the phone Juan has been light, friendly and incredibly accomodating. It is a real pleasure to meet someone who takes pride in interacting with everyone that comes in the door at a very high level. The one major downside is that they tend to increase your rates every quarter which can get expensive. Building is in decent shape (beware low ceilings in upper level hallways - storage rooms have 8'+ ceilings but the hallways accessing them have beams at around 6'-2")... Staff was helpful and straightfoward, no bs, no time wasters... Great deal via the website reservation. Had a great initial experience thanks to Juan Amaya @ ESS. We needed storage space for corporate product. His courteous manner and cheery patience went a long way allowing us to make an informed final decision. He took us on a grand tour, listened to our specific needs and pretty much had a satisfactory answer for everything. The place is cleaner and newer than other nearby storage facilities, however the service sucks. I just closed out of a storage and was unable to talk to the guy in the office. They decided to shut down from 2-2:45pm. After getting on a call with the main office to close my account, I was told that I still need to contact the local office to remove me from the automatic monthly billing. What a joke! read more

However, I just emptied my unit yesterday and was disgusted to find a live roach chilling out on one of the boxes today. There were no roaches in my last apartment, which had regular pest treatments; there is no doubt where this came from. By all means, this place is inexpensive and the customer service I had was reasonable. But the elevator breaks regularly so it's pretty hit and miss whether it'll be working when you get there (so you'd better hope it's when someone's still in the office), and with the bug problem I can safely say I'll never use this facility again. read more

My unit was broken into, instead of calling to warn me that my storage was left open without a lock, the facility replaced the lock on my storage with their own lock. My items were only left for one month and I'm so sad that this happened at a place where they should have be secured. read more

3 people found out they were burglarized in two days. I made a police report this morning. I lost about twelve grand in property. Things I can't replace. The other guy talking to police lost tons sports memorabilia. Probably worth thousands. This has been going on for a while. They don't care to tell you about the burglaries. A lot of bums and meth addicts use this place. It's not safe. No cameras. homeless sleep in units. Units are poorly secured. No security. No staff past 6. That's when they break into units and get this they have a manager that lives on site. How are people being burglarized?? The facility segregates people. All of the homeless units are in one area. The staff , other tenants and people off the street have access to everything. If you want to lose precious family heirlooms and everything that you have worked hard for. This is the place. I brought my stuff here so that it would be safe. What a kick in the face. I was offered another unit that also had a gap at the top. The employees are doing next to nothing to secure or help. Honestly if anything they are probably a part of the robberies since most of the people making police reports claim the lock was never touched?? And employees have access to master keys. A couple days later I had a fingerprints unit come in because they think that whoever is stealing from the units are renting there and using their unit to get into other peoples units. I had a friend who said he was late on a payment and had his unit locked with a red lock. He said he squared everything away but when he opened his unit he was missing property. How can something from a unit go missing if only employees have the keys to those locks? Boom. Even the officers taking my statement said that it looks poorly secured and like an inside job. You are better off giving or throwing away anything that you need to store. This is not a lesson I want anyone else to learn. I will update as it unfolds. If you already have a unit here I strongly suggest you take inventory or please check on it daily. 2/11/17 I showed it to my unit and all the lights are missing. No security guard. Pros: 1) Location. Very good proximity to the 405 and 90 freeways on the corner of Green Valley and Centinela. There isn't heavy traffic in this neighborhood, so it makes getting in and out of the property very easy. 2) Customer service is good. Office staff is friendly and accommodating. Cons: 1) Buyer (or renter) beware! Bring a measuring tape if you're checking out the units. I didn't bring one- didn't think I would have to. Even without the measuring tape, it was quite apparent that the measurements of usable space* of the various units I saw were not accurate. I wanted a 5'x10' unit, and when I saw them, I knew they were definitely not 5' wide. The way the office staff person decided to "prove" that it was 5' was audacious; she measured it by walking with one foot in front of the other 5 times while counting to 5. (Her feet looked shorter than 12".) When she got to 5, her foot couldn't even fit, which meant that even by her measurement standards it was less than 5'. 2) Very poor lighting. The units I looked at had absolutely no light reaching the interior, which means that a high-powered flashlight or lantern is absolutely needed in order to see anything that you're looking for inside the unit. (I looked at the units at 11am- definitely not dark outside.) 3) Security. The gates into the property stay open for 20 minutes before they automatically close (and reopen with car activity). What this means is that anyone who is hellbent on breaking into a unit could just walk onto the property and accomplish their goal. Overall, it's a good place to store items which you NEVER want to see or will NEVER need to access. If you're looking for a place where you'll access the unit at least once a month and need good lighting to see what's in the unit, you should consider a different facility. * = The actual measurements of space may (or may not) be 5x10', but the units are unfinished, which means that the vertical support columns extend into the space. This results in the width of usable space measuring less than 5'. Very deceptive, and easily confirmed with the result of the staff member's "foot over foot" measuring method. read more

The worst storage place, do not use, they have two dollys, that's right, two for the entire place to use. About a fifty fifty chance if you go to put stuff in storage you will arrive to have nothing to wheel your stuff in or out on. Great location. I was robbed here once in 2010 and the then onsite manager, I think his name was Jose had something to do with it! A truck backed up to the facility during broad daylight and robbed 6 units in a row including a preacher's wife! I only found out because one of the new employee called me about my lock not having a sticker then we learned the bums had misplaced all the locks with new ones. Talk about gall!!! I had to rent a unit here again because I moved back and didn't want to leave my stuff where I was staying. The new manager was nice and helpful. She was also very professional. At any rate, if you can avoid storage at all, do so. I'm convinced all of them especially Public Storage are thieves!!!! read more

Move Out UPDATE***** On Friday 6/24, my hired moving company and I arrived prepared to remove my belongings from the storage unit. After unlocking the unit for the guys, I immediately went to the Extra Space Storage office and notified the leasing agent(s) of my departure and move-out date effective as soon as the storage was free of my property. I was greeted by Vera Starks and Juan (Juan-very nice guy helped me move-in) who notified me they would close out my contract once we were done. Towards the very end of the process as the movers sent Extra Space' moving cart up in the elevator alone (humans are not allowed to ride in utility elevator; clearly posted) the cart rolled and somehow caused the elevator to get stuck. Extra Space moving carts do not provide wheel locks on their carts. Immediately, my movers notified Vera Starks of the matter she assured them she would check it out and fix the problem. After my movers were gone and compensated for a job well done, I receive a call from Vera Starks stating my movers broke the elevator and I would be receiving a bill of no definitive denomination because they were not able to "un-stick" the elevator in-house and an outside vendor was called in. Also, although it was not me directly who "broke the elevator" I was to be held accountable as it was in fact "my storage unit." As expected, I was very taken aback as: 1) When asked for a definitive amount of the damage Vera was unable to provide one stating rather harshly and quite frankly rudely, "All Im telling you is your movers broke the elevator and your responsible for it, so look out for the bill." 2) After requesting Management, I was disappointed to find out Vera Starks was the Manager of this facility. 3) When I asked for her superior she mentioned she did not have one she was the Manager, unless Vera is the owner I found this to be absurd. a. Later after probing Vera further she finally confirms her Superior was a Regional Director of some nature by the name of Michael as she did not have his phone number only email, which she refused to provide therefore giving me an 800 # to contact him to request a return call. 4) I was never notified or offered insurance in the circumstance that "moving" carts without wheel locks provided by Extra Space Storage as a moving aide were to damage an elevator shaft where humans are not allowed to ride in, in the event it rolled from its original position and cause the elevator to get stuck the tenants were somehow responsible? a. I find it hard to comprehend being responsible for as Intuitions property damaging its "own" property, without the ability to provide human control in case gravity begins to defy phenomenon. Nevertheless, I would strongly recommend Ms. Vera Starks for Management and Customer Service educational training. I have never felt so insulted in my life, I am in HealthCare and I would never treat or speak to one of my patients in the manner I was treated. We at my place of employment always follow what we call the Golden Rule, "treat others how they would like to be treated." Being told I was responsible for an unknown amount for a broken elevator is a bit unsettling and would be as I you can imagine rather pricy. Shortly thereafter, I did receive a follow up call from Juan apologizing and confirming I would not be responsible for the damages. Although I appreciate the follow up and confirmation of my initial thoughts/feelings, this type of communication should have not been demanded until an actual verdict and/or liability was determined. Once I got the notice that for the second time my rent was going up though, I decided to move out. I think the service is great, it's easy for me to get in and out of my unit when I need something, but I'm not willing to pay anymore for my small unit. read more

Literally the WORST customer service in Los Angeles. The facility itself is fine but when you're forking over $200-300/month, you'd like to feel appreciated. The people who work in the front office, a guy named Paul and a woman named Michelle make it clear that they do not care whether or not you keep giving your business to Extra Space. Please be aware that the teaser rates are just that: teaser rates. My monthly rent went up 20% in 18-months, and I expect the rate to go up another 10% in the next 6 months. There should be a law requiring the increases to be in bold letters BEFORE one signs up for a storage unit. According to the manager the step increases are standard in the industry, so I assume that you will also be enjoy significant rental increases. I will never use Extra Space Storage again. read more

So far, so good. Both Michelle and Paul were incredibly helpful, doing everything in their power to get me the best unit for my needs and time frame. They never rush anyone yet are efficient with everyone's time and fully knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend ESS. Notes to potential customers - the downstairs units are totally worth any extra $, it can get crowded (esp on weekends) and waiting for the elevator could become time-consuming. Also, make sure you check out the unit before signing on, some are slightly odd-shaped and if you have specific needs/items to store it's worth it. The doors can be a little narrow to maneuver through, so keep that in mind with larger items. read more
