We came here and were seated in the private room since we had a fairly large party. The tapas we tried were all delicious. I will say even after 4-5 rounds of small plates we were still starving. Extra virgin is amazing! I could not recommend it enough. I came to visit Kansas City for work and this was the first place that I tried. They have a rotating menu with lots of unique dishes. I tried the rabbit gnocchi and it was perfect. The meat melted in my mouth in the gnocchi was nice and soft but not soggy. The staff was also incredibly nice and gave me lots of good recommendations for checking out the city. This place is definitely worth checking out! Extra Virgin was recommended to me as one of the best happy hour spots in KC and they weren't kidding! It was a short walk from my hotel, so I set up shop at the bar for a little bit on a Thursday evening. I loved the bold punchy colors of the restaurant and the open kitchen concept which I had a great view of from the bar. I had a few glasses of wine along with the spicy pickles, pork belly, and blistered shishito peppers. Everything was so good and the pork belly was my absolute favorite! The 3 plates were the perfect size for a light evening snack before I continued my adventures around KC for my final night in town. Another restaurant owned by Michael Scott - I get the hype. Extra Virgin and Farina are both owned by the previously mentioned (this will come into play when I go into deets about the oysters, which will explain the 4/5 star review). The grilled bread with the whipped feta was exceptional. Not bad on the price and could honestly pass for even a quick bite before a night out on the town. Other items looked good, but nothing that I'm absolutely dying to try. Oysters are near and dear to my heart and I'm rather picky about them. I've had really amazing oysters in different parts of the country (including Oklahoma!) that have been priced much more justifiably and they were much bigger. While the oysters were indeed fresh, I just can't really convince myself to go back. I should've known when I went to Extra Virgin that this would likely be the case, as I felt the same way about the oysters at Farina...they're owned by the same people and are likely...the same exact oysters I had lol. Overall, Extra Virgin seems more like a place to grab a couple cocktails and a nice appetizer. Staff was super friendly - my server was named Ben; he was super nice. I can also say that I came in to Extra Virgin and enjoyed my meal on my OWN on a super busy Wednesday night and I felt super comfortable the whole time I was there. Stopped in because of a friends recommendation. It was early dinner so we were in time for the happy hour options all of which were great! Great selection of bourbon and rye whisky. We each ordered a drink, an old fashioned and a Manhattan. Both drinks were outstanding!!! And also we're a nice size pour. We ordered the house made ricotta and grilled bread. The ricotta was very fresh tasting with just the right amount of olive oil. I like my bread on the crispier side but it tasted homemade and that made the difference. Next up was shrimp and peaches and the rainbow trout which I highly recommend the flavors were not over bearing but rather accompanied the seafood. We also ordered half dozen oysters which were very fresh! And in Kansas City! Of all places. I am always impressed when oysters are shucked with no shell present what so ever on the inside, I was able to eat them directly from the shell itself. Service was outstanding! Our waitress could not have possible done more for us. My friends phone was dead and she needed it to check into a hater after dinner, our waitress took her phone and charged it for us while we ate, fantastic! Never missed a beat with us, complimentary, and engaged. Never wondered when something was coming to the table and never had to ask for more water. I wish I could remember her name! The atmosphere inside was fun and chic! Large bar in the center of the room. We opted for the outdoor patio area. It was nice to sit outside however I felt they could do more with the outdoor area to make it look more aesthetically pleasing! Like plants around? Decorative elements? The tables themselves where nicely appointed. Over all giving it 5 because out here it really is! Came here for lunch with co-workers and I think we found our new lunch spot! We let the waitress know we were on a time crunch and she was so accommodating. The food came quick (while still being DELICIOUS) and she recognized the time and got us out checks so we could head out. I was really impressed. Love the concept of tapas but was nervous I would still be hungry, but it was the perfect amount of food! We got 4 small plates for 3 people and it was perfect! All of the food was great, but need to give a special shout out the the grilled bread and ricotta because wow. I couldn't get enough. I think this is the kind of place where you can't really go wrong when ordering. There was a patio and I'm thinking many summer happy hours will be spent there. Such a fun meal at Extra Virgin. I recommend coming with at least four people so you can get a variety of dishes. We had a little post Thanksgiving Friendsgiving here the other day. Our server Ben was a blast and so kind to put up with our very bad jokes. He recommended ~2 dishes per person. Each portion is pretty small so for our group of 8 we had to get two of each. Biggest winners were the lamb and swordfish kabobs. Both grilled to perfection - crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. Especially difficult for a kefta style kabob (lamb) so huge props to them. The babaganoush in their mezze platter was wonderful. Rich and smoke and blended so smoothly. I'd skip the house bread with ricotta. The bread was good but the ricotta was pretty tasteless. They also have a huge wine and spirits menu and really tasty cocktails. Overall the bill was only ~$45 per person including drinks, tax, and tip. Highly recommend for a holiday get together or a date night! read more

Found this restaurant before heading into Kansas City for 36 hours and was so happy we went here! Delicious food, great service and such a nice ambiance. We had the Mezze Spread, Heirloom Tomato and Cucumber Salad to start. All were AMAZING!! Then we had the Chicken Pita and Lamb Kebab, both were tasty and the fries were delicious. Mac and cheese, bone marrow, humus, shinshito peppers, black bean and cheese empanadas. Hummus was a bit too salty, thay was our least favorite. Bone marrow was definitely a treat, very flavorful, very rich, very fatty. They provide toast for you to smear the deliciousness on. Shinshito peppers were flash fried and seasoned with salt, so good. My favorite was definitely the Mac and cheese. It comes cooked on a hot skillet, and is ultra creamy and cheesy.
