Bonus points for their Moscow Mule--it's one of my favorites because it's not overloaded with ginger (no spicy throat burn here, thank you very much). It's also a fun spot overall: pull tabs, darts, and plenty of TVs make it a good place to watch a football game or just hang out with friends. That said... the service is what knocks this place down a couple stars. It's just not great. The bartender can come off pretty rude, and from talking to others, that seems to be a fairly common experience--not just a one-off bad night. All that said, I still think it's worth checking out if you're looking for something different to eat or a casual place to watch a game--just go in with realistic expectations about the service.

Upon entering the dining room (no-one was eating inside there) it felt much more like a bar atmosphere, which put me off a little. I'd previously assumed it was a restaurant that sold alcohol, but it seems more of a bar that sells food to me now. Anyway, we chose to eat outside. Selected a table, chose what we wanted - Captain's Basket for me, Reuben for him. I asked for Coke no ice, and server told me "oh we don't have any ice anyway" which, frankly doesn't bother me as I'm English. In England, ice does not come as default. The coke can was chilled from the fridge though. Baskets came out quite quickly. There were 2 small pieces of breaded rockfish, 1 was nicely cooked, the thinner piece was a little over. Maybe 7 or 8 battered shrimp - definitely on the bouncy, chewy side, and the batter a little greasy, as though the oil hadn't quite got up to temperature, and they'd been in there a little long. The Crab Cake was divine though, I'd have eaten a whole plate of them. My tartare sauce portion cup wasn't very full, and man I absolutely love the stuff, I like fries dipped in tartare, but after I'd eaten the shrimp, there was barely a smear left. The music was far enough away that it did not interrupt our conversation, and provided a pleasant backdrop, on a sunny evening, however there was a woman sitting on the table to the right of me, who seemed to think that everyone wanted to hear the details of her life, and talked loud enough to interrupt our meal. That is obviously not the fault of Creekbend Cafe, and does not affect my rating of them. She was just annoying and obnoxiously loud. The server was fine but when I paid the default tip was 30% which is outrageous and the highest default tip I've seen anywhere. I'm all for tipping generously but the service and ambiance are not at all worth that high of a percentage.

They have a good selection of draft beers and their food is great. I had the Caesar both times, but also tried their salmon burger and lemon spaghetti, which I shared with the kids. My recommendation for kids is to skip the basket of fries and get tots instead. I don't care for the skin on fries as much, but the tots were perfect. They seem to have a lot of interesting, fresh specials like a halibut Reuben that I'm sure is tasty. It's a great little destination when you want to get out of the house in the summer but don't want to do the same old spots in Anchorage. Check them out, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Had the special Halibut Enchilada, perfect portions and a new dish for me. Awesome! Spouse had the special Halibut Reuben, and was very happy with that choice. Other guest had the special Salmon Burger. Everybody loved their choices and would happily recommend as a stop before or after skiing or trip down Seward this summer.

Besides this, everything else was great so I did not deduct any stars. Let me explain. We were a party of 4 and just arriving from NY, we were hungry. We walked in at about 4:30-4:45. We asked for a table for 4. We were told the wait will be over an hour. They asked if we would like to sit at the bar area, same food and probably would get service quicker. I said sure. We both want to look for a table and there were none, so I just told the staff that we will go to the bar area and wait while having a drink. We were given a buzzer. We came across a Maria bar table with a nice couple sitting there, and 2 open seats. I asked if we could sit there and they said of course. They then Deb moved over 2 seats arguing gave us 4 seats. I was do thankful for them being so nice that I picked up their bar tab. I noticed that the dining area has at least 5 open tables for 4 and 1 for 6+. I went up to the desk and told them this. I was told they were fit reservations and I couldn't have a table. Long story short, 45 min went guy and there were still open tables, I E's not happy and let them know. By this time though, our waiter Marco cans over to us and said he would take care of us, which he did. I told the front desk to forget our table and have them the buzzer back. ** My review starts*** Marco was a great waiter taking excellent care of us. We had a great time with Marco and our new friends next to us. I ordered the halibut stuffed with crab which was outstanding. My wife ordered the salmon which was delicious as well, I particularly enjoyed the crispy skin of the salmon, yum!!! Our friends ordered the fried calamari which he enjoyed and his wife had the salmon over a Ceaser salad. To finish it off, I had to get the lava cake for dessert.....hey, why not, I'm in vacation lol! Everything was great, the food delicious, Super Marco s the best!!! Great service and a great time.
