A cozy neighborhood bar , over the last year i have probably been here a good 20 times hence i am biased towards o mahoney's. To start with its just another neighborhood bar with nothing extraordinary BUT having said that - The friendliness and the welcoming attitude of the staff makes this one of my favorite spots to grab a drink my part of the lakeview / boystown. They have a decent selection of beer on the tap, the beverage menu is well crafted and the food menu is what you will expect from a bar. They also offer weekend brunch which i have not been to. There is more though - They have weekday menu specials with dollar 5 burgers and dollar 1 wings. Wednesday trivia night is always a fun time to be here. In summers they have cute little outside patio seating. If you live around do stop by Wednesday 8 PM , grab a beer and answer some trivia. read more

Came in after work for a quick drink and appetizer prior to heading to a friend's for the evening. $5 drafts were solid (not sure if this is a weekday thing or happy hour) but that's about it for me. The place stunk like cleaning chemicals when we first got there...it faded after a bit but that tends to stick with you. Cheese curds were the biggest offender. $9 is pretty aggressive, but you get a decent amount. These things were sad though. Most of them had a deflated football kind of look...and when you bit into them there was plenty of air to go with the cheese. All told I'd maybe come back for a beer but that's it. read more

Popped in here with a friend who lives in the 'hood. It was just okay. Standard green-painted Irish bar with lovingly displayed bottles of Scotch, Whisky and Rye, with specialty glassware. It was clean enough, and the bartender was friendly enough. It just wasn't interesting enough. read more

To me, this place appears to be a local neighborhood pub. There are television screens all over this place, although the images appear not to be HD in quality. Also, I think this place is probably best for the weekend as they have Saturday and Sunday unlimited mimosas with food. I actually opted out of the unlimited mimosas part so you can just order the food on its own. The gentleman serving our table was extremely attentive. He was great. The food was quite ample. I had the regular skillet with meat, eggs, etc. I thought it tasted alright. Also, this place is really tiny, so try to get here early to get a nice table, or else you will end up likely sitting at the bar or waiting perhaps. Also, they have specials throughout the week so I think it would be neat to check out the promotions. read more

I went to F. O'Mahony's for one of their special events - Bingo on Thursday nights. A group of us went early to grab some dinner. The bar/restaurant is really trendy/cool. The layout if very well organized . It would be a fun place to hang out at. The blonde female bartender has a great personality. Asset to the establishment. My buddies had ordered a bunch of appetizers while I had ordered the cheeseburger meal with tator tots. They seemed to enjoy their appetizers which I didn't try. When I received my meal, I was impressed... large portions. The tots were done just right... nice and crispy. The burger was another story. I had ordered the burger medium and it came medium but the bun and the burger itself was very dry. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find the server to get this corrected. I did eat 2/3 of the burger. The meal overall was good. I think I would return for another try. read more

I am new to Chicago and have been here 3 times so far. I have wanted to go for the brunch but have not yet. However, I am really pleased with the joint and will probably be a regular. First off, each day I came in, I wanted to see the Cubs and they were happy enough to put it on (let me pick which TV I wanted to see it on once). Sure, not a lot of drink specials, but if you watched them pour that would not be a problem (Translation: Generous pour). I felt as if I got my money's worth. Each of the three times there was a different bartender and each of them were friendly, fast, and attentive. No issues what so ever. One even went so far as to give a shot of whiskey to every one in the bar (nice!). They each made casual conversation, offered advice about the area, and seemed to be focused on their customers. On to the food: First, I love pub food! They have a nice menu of salads, pizza, burgers, and entrees; a special every day as well. I had the Reuben ( great), the fish'n'chips, and the pulled pork. All were made fresh, hot, and well, hit the spot. They load each plate up with fries - so much so that I never was a able to finish them all. I will check back on them again soon, but for now, after 3 visits, I am a happy camper! read more

Pretty cool place overall! We came for trivia on a Wednesday, but it got cancelled because not enough people were there (Womp womp). So we stayed for drinks and dinner. The wrigleyville burger with peanut butter was interesting, had good flavor but was a bit dry overall. The western burger with egg and bacon was pretty solid! We also got the nachos which were a good size and pretty tasty, could've definitely gotten as an entree! Wide beer selection, both draft and bottles. Service was great (minus the bingo cancelling which was outside the control of the restaurant). Overall a pretty cool and might stop back in if I'm in the area. Either way, I like the vibe of this place... for some reason, in my mind, this is a messy room, a cozy messy room where you know exactly where to find that copy of short stories by Carver (look under the pile of photography magazines, the one with a coffee mug balanced on top). Ok, it's not a messy place - it just has that weirdly cozy, "I can have a few beers here" relaxed vibe, and in my head, it's messy. I just want to preface this by saying this review is strictly for the food. The bar itself has a nice feel, they had the Chicago teams on the tv's which was nice and the service was good. The food however was not good at all. I ordered the buffalo wings because it was 50 cent wing night. There is a 7 Eleven across the street and I questioned whether they just walked right over there grabbed some wings and brought them back. They were heavily breaded and the sauce had a weird aftertaste. It tasted like chemicals... I couldn't even finish them. The ranch also just tasted like Kraft. Was hoping for a homemade ranch that most restaurants have. My wife had a burger and it was just ok. You could tell it was pre made and just warmed up. Didn't seem to be fresh at all, no seasoning really on it. Just tasted bland. The only reason I give this a 2 and not a 1 is the sweet potato fries were solid. So again, cool place to come grab a drink and/or watch a game. Just don't expect good food. read more

F. O'Mahony's is a great local pub in the northern Lakeview/Boystown area. It is defiently a bar for weekday meetups or pre-night drinks on the weekend. I was having a house party at my apartment 1/2 miles north of here and came in two days before to ask them if I could throw a Post-Party Party, and bring my party to them at around 10:30. The owner happily agreed (it is pretty slow from 10:30-Midnight, picks up at 1) and offered my group (25+ people) $5 Drafts and $5 Wells (just had to mention my name. All in all, this is a great local place and has a great neighborhood vibe! read more

What happened guys? So my brother and I stopped by for some grub before catching a show last night. I noticed that my favorite menu item (grilled cheese served with tomato soup and fries) was gone. But, it was replaced with a grilled cheese served with potato soup! I guess they're going for the Irish update on the American classic. Whatevs, but the soup best be really good to compensate for losing the dipping factor! My brother was super hungry and asked me if the sandwiches come with fries. Underneath the 'Burgers' section on the menu, it states 'all sandwiches served with fries'. Okay, we're getting fries! Nope, we were wrong. No fries, the potato soup was very average and the grilled cheese was almost all bread. And the apple chutney? I'd recommend getting it on the side. Didn't think it tasted so great blanketed between cheddar and Texas Toast. Service was okay, but the food... mediocre. My brother also had the chicken tenders for an appetizer and was unimpressed. I miss the former version of the grilled cheese sandwich... come back! read more

Damn you F! I hate that you're the closest restaurant to my place and your food is edible. I hate you because your service is horrible, it's freezing inside in the winter, your clipboard menu is weird and hard to read, and you're pricey. I. Will. Not. Go. Back. In the winter when it's freezing and for some reason I'm starving and willing to venture out instead of ordering in I end up at F OMahonys (what the F is with the weird name? I've mulled over this review for quite some time, I really do wish it could be better. F. O'Mahony's is the only bar/restaurant/fried-food-emporium within a block of my apartment, and damn do I want to like it, but I just can't. Every time I've been here, the service has been horrible... yes, the waitress is nice, but they're SO slow, busy or not. You wait forever to get a menu. Then you wait forever to order. Then you wait forever for your drinks (Water. I get water. And it takes FOREVER). When the food does eventually arrive, it seems like it's been sitting in the pick-up window for 20 minutes, and the truth is I don't really like anything on their menu. The fish & chips is so breading-heavy & greasy, the pizza's aren't all that great, and the salads are very 'meh'. When dining at this fine establishment, I've become accustomed to begging for silverware, walking my butt up to the bar for a beverage refill, and snatching condiments from other people's tables. With all the work I'm putting into it, I might start to tip myself, now that I think about it. Add all this up and multiply it by WAY too expensive prices, and I just can't do it anymore. After dropping over $25/person for bar food (sans-drinks!) and poor service yet again, I'm over it. read more

We just got back from a post dinner drink at Finley Mahony's and I have to say, the little bit that I experienced I really enjoyed. Great outdoor patio- check Great drink specials- check (they had something for everyone here with liquor and beer both on special) Strong pour- check Laid back atmosphere- check Seemed like a fun and mellow mixed crowd. We were four slightly buzzed girls talking loudly about facebook and brunch yet no one seemed to mind. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the company of their own party and the great drink specials. Can't wait to go back to try the food and hopefully add a star! BONUS- this is a GREAT location for meeting folks who converge from a variety of neighborhoods. Perfect northside local with plenty of shopping and public transportation around. read more

F. O'Mahony's has the makings to be a nice enough place to have a few drinks and food... but fell short in a few ways. The waitress we had was good, but the problem was she was the ONLY person working the entire inside and outside patio on a Sunday brunch. It seems like only poor management could have put any one person into this type of situation. Still though, she was keeping up and did a good job. Actually, it seems like the kitchen speed was what let everyone down. The bartender (5/3/09 brunch) was kind of a lazy bum though too. We walked in and right away noticed the waitress was taking a table of 8's order and she was the only one. Meanwhile the bartender saw us, but walked back and forth behind the bar talking on his cell phone. He couldn't be bothered to put down the phone for 10 seconds to tell us to sit anywhere we liked, we had to wait 5 minutes for the only person there doing her job to tell us that. Once we ordered, our food probably took a good 30 minutes. I had a cheeseburger ($10) and fries. There could have been a few more fries on the plate given the time it took, but the fries were good. The burger was your typical 1/2# frozen burger. There was no option of how we wanted it cooked, and frankly had there been I doubt it would've been right. It was good though. They charge an extra 50 cents for various sauces, I opted for the cilantro-sugar aioli. It was present on my burger, but there was very little of it on there and I couldn't even taste it. Waste of $. The bloody marys were different, but good. I swear they had Hawaiian Punch in them, I'm certain there was some sort of sweet juice in them [probably HFCS-laden]. Overall it was OK, would have been better if everything didn't take so long. Their sidewalk cafe is nice, and they have a dog permit. read more

Met a friend here for drinks and some food. Decent beers on draft. The food was not very good and over-priced. We ordered the fried zucchini sticks appetizer for $10. It was a plate with about 10 zucchini sticks and a side of ranch. Appetizers shouldn't cost more than the burgers. I ordered a burger medium-rare, came out nearly well done. Why bother to ask how I want it cooked? Plain burger is $9, I topped it with American cheese - $1 and mushrooms $0.50. There are a bunch of other toppings you can choose from between $0.50 - $1.00 per item. Burgers come with either fries or tots, I chose tots. The burger lacked flavor and was just ok. The tots were my favorite actually, they were super crunchy and light at the same time. Other reviewers have made similar comments on the food and I would have to agree the food is below average. Ambiance is pretty laid-back, place to drop in for a drink and move on. Traditional table/chair setups, some high tops and I believe bar seating. Low lighting with small votives on tables. Sunday Funday with $20 bottomless mimosa brunch is good enough for me to visit. And will help me come back. Without that though, I think I would pass. I'm not a huge eater and rarely do I clean my plate when I eat out - especially sub-par bar food. And out of the four of us - I would have expected the other 3 to finish their meals and instead they left half full plates. I had the breakfast sliders. Basically biscuits with eggs, bacon and American cheese. And a side of potatoes. In my eyes that was enough to soak up all the champagne I'm consuming! Though I am glad I didn't get the hangover skillet like the rest of them. I thought Lori L. had hot dogs in hers - come to find out they were gross sausage links. The drinks were strong and the carafes kept coming though! And it's stumbling distance from the house. I'm sure we'll be back - and I'm curious to try their non-brunch food next. read more

I liked Finley Mahoney's. I didn't love it. I liked it. The appearance of the bar is nice. I love that it's on a corner and all windows facing the streets. You can see who's coming and going and waste a lot of time people watching. The staff was nice. I believe that our waitress was new so she was a bit slow, but hey...whaddaya gonna do?? I deducted a star for the menu. The food options were slim and didn't sound appetizing at all. The veggie wraps looked good. I would have tried them, but they had goat cheese in them and *gasp* I don't like goat cheese. read more

Beth B & I stumbled into this little joint after being disappointed by Duke's Bar & Grill opening at 5:00 pm on a Saturday...come on guys! Anyway, the drinks are cheap but the food is expensive. I got 10 buffalo wings for $8.25. Doesn't seem to bad until you realize how little chicken there is on the bone. I mean seriously I was like gnawing at the bone hoping I would find some spicy protein treasure, but alas I was sadly disappointed. I have waited over 7 months to write this review. The reason being is that this is my special place on Tuesdays and Sundays and I don't want it to be any more crowded than it already is on those days. So, please don't tell everyone that you know about "Faux Mahoney's" (me and my drinking buddies call it this). Just come here and experience the magic for yourself. Tuesday nights are $5 cheeseburger and tots and all draft beers are $4. Said burgers are tasty and surprisingly big for how cheap they are. I just wish the kitchen could be more consistent with cooking them to the proper temperature. I suppose that would be my only complaint. I generally get my burgers medium, but here I have learned to do medium-well, otherwise it is coming out under-cooked. My other reason for enjoying Tuesdays is Sam the bartender. Where he lacks in fashion sense, he more than compensates with probably the best ipod collection ever. As a self-professed music snob, I am always pleased with his selections. Sundays are bottomless mimosa brunch for only $20. That includes the entree, making this quite the deal. And everyone gets their own carafe of mimosa, so no worries about keeping your glass full. I highly recommend the mexican omelet, which comes with chorizo, queso fresco and salsa verde. It's delicioso! So there you have it. Liked the bar. Great open air atmosphere, but still gives the impression of coziness. They actually had the temperature controlled right, which never happens in Chicago bars. Great bartender- Dominick. He mixes, pours, and keeps up conversation! Our waitress was also friendly. Good enough for me! I hate places where the staff is too important, snobby, or "busy" to be friendly and helpful. You will not find that attitude at this bar. Food smelled great, but, I did not eat so I can't comment. CLEAN ladies room! Andy can attest to that! It was large, roomy, and had all the supplies. I guess I am getting too old and crabby to put up with places that cannot keep TP stocked. Again, not a problem here. While there are many bars on this stretch, I think this one has a great chance. I walked by the other day and saw college flags outside... I hope those go away (read- we really do not need anymore drunken frat kids around), but I definitely hope the bar stays. read more

Staff has changed significantly. Food not on point as it used to be. We usually took our friends and family to this place when they visited because it was so close to our home. I went here on a Sunday night about a week ago with two friends, and we sat at the bar. While the drinks were "ok", the bartender was incredibly rude. When we all ordered our drinks, the bartender replied with "REALLY? ugh..." and then walked away. She wouldn't make eye contact with us the rest of the evening. It totally spoiled my experience. I'll never suggest this bar to someone. It's lacking some serious customer service. That bartender was awful! read more
