Two Words: Life Saver!!! I do not typically have horrible skin but I did for a span of about 1 or 2 yrs. Finally I was doing research on places in the country to go to because I was SICK of having bad skin and I ran across The Face Place. It is absolute heaven. They were (at the time - 2 yrs ago) the only place in SoCal that did Galvanic Treatments (probably still are the only place). They do extractions, electrical currents, vitamin c soaked face strips that create a mask, and finish up with a masque as well. If you want to have great skin (for the 1st time or again), then go to the Face Place. I went here for a span of time, began using Cetaphil (great, inexpensive fash wash), added in Biotherm's Skin Perfector to my moisturzer, and in one year my skin was BETTER, much BETTER. :) read more

I cannot say enough about The Face Place. I've been coming here since the early 80's and my facial treatments here are helping me to face my 65th birthday. I usually see one particular person but have been treated throughout the years by several others who are equally gifted. They are all very specifically trained to use a technique that leaves you face unmarked after a treatment. Their treatments are about cleaning your pores and firming your skin - not about massaging your face with creams or using wet steam, which over stimulates your pores. If you want empty pores and clean skin, The Face Place is for you! A final note, the owners are sweethearts and their staff reflects that as well. I have been coming here for almost 10 years now and LOVE Myra. She is very sweet and I always look forward to seeing her Do not get me wrong. I get an extraction facial, a painful extraction facial, coming from someone who suffers from acne (bad acne), this works very well for me. I do have some downtime but after about 2 days makeup covers any redness. After a week, I am totally clear and have no more spots or acne. I go once every 2 months for keep up. I wasn't even on the glass and the employees comes out and tells me to get off their property because I might break the glass, after I paid for service and waiting for my Uber. I saw the positive reviews for Face Place and John Arrington Williams and booked a treatment. -The Face Place is clean, modern and has a great vibe. -The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. -John is full of personality, and I really enjoyed talking with him. I gave this place several chances because it's convenient to where I live and i've read great reviews. However, my experiences were not good and left me with broken capillaries on my nose from being squeezed too hard during extractions. I don't think it's hygienic that they work on two clients at once (didn't see them wash their hands). Also, Carol actually forgot about me during a facial and I was left in the room with the dome on my face for 45 minutes. I had to physically take the mask and product off my face, redress, and walk downstairs to remind her that I was still there. Her excuse was she was "eating her lunch and forgot", which also seems unhygienic that an esthetician would eat lunch during a service. Gross. read more

When I called they were so accommodating, which doesn't always happen at other salons when you are going to be late. The facial is not a typical facial. There is none of the relaxing massage, the steam, the oils, or the pleasant aromas of a typical facial. Instead you just kind of lay there with a box over your face. That would not be so bad if the management informed you in advance that this was not the usual facial. After it was over and we pointed out our disappointment, the person had the counter had no words of apology or even regret that we were dissatisfied. Have you had a confusing experience and you really don't know how you feel about it and then you are increasingly angered. Yes, of course you have, my peeps. This is the Face Place. This is most def a MEH bordering on EEW. Although the other reviews mention it being a medical facial. I think what they really mean is that you sit alone with expectations and anxiety while you wait for your specialist. For such a high-end place and equally high-end price tag, they should really be giving you a massage or some reflexology (like a normal European facial) during all that galvanic weird downtime. WARNING: DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE EVEN A LITTLE AFRAID OF CONFINED SPACES and/or DON'T LIKE IT WHEN YOUR FACE IS SWADDLED LIKE A MUMMY. My facial lady was nice, but I don't think the results warranted all the downtime/price. They basically stick you with a heated dog collar for ten minutes, do extractions, cover your face with vitamin soaked strips in a mummy-like fashion and then proceed to strap you up to a machine with electrical currents. What this does, I have no idea. I know that it made me unbelievably uncomfortable sitting with a weird Hannibal mask and being electrocuted slowly for twenty minutes abandoned in a lonely odd room with my legs propped up on a sex pillow and my lady bits covered by a baby towel. Here is the deal, even though I love/hate Gwyenth and Madonna and all of their popular clientele, I didn't feel at all pampered nor did my skin look at all different. It was all super patronizing and awkward. Literal conversation Lady: Do you have a dermatologist? KT: Yes. Lady: Has he ever told you that you have rosacea? (Inner monologue: Oh aren't you a genius ... you see a pale blonde girl with rosy cheeks and you diagnose rosacea ... clue the slow clap) KT: I don't have rosacea. Awkward silence. What made this place the most awkward place in the world is the receptionist/manager gentleman who was oddly counting huge amounts of money during my check out. There are A LOT OF RULES about how you can pay, what you can tip with and that you can't tip and pay on the same check. When I did that, unknowingly, he said "ok, just this time". OK, don't worry because this place sucks, you may or may not be evading tax laws with all your under the table rules (mind you, I have no problem with paying cash, but like at a super high end establishment, you should not have to write two separate CHECKS in order to tip your facialist ... I mean get with the times and your clientele ... Get a square ... I am pretty sure even drug dealers use them). In addition, they are shadily exposing people's personal information all over the desk for the world to see. The dude was so curt and rude, and I am like I JUST SPENT A LOT OF MONEY TO GET POKED AT FOR FIVE MINUTES AND ELECTROCUTED HEED ME. Needless to say, I won't be returning. read more

The extractions were relatively painless and I was not red the entire day. Dawn was my aesthetician, and while she was gentle I don't think she was thorough. In fact she was giving 2 people facials at the same time in the same room. $100 bucks and I can't even have my own room or the undivided attention of an aesthetician who probably felt pressured for time. The galvanic treatment felt like little tiny needles sticking me for the first few minutes and I could taste the metal too. Everything else didn't hurt and was fine. After the treatment, she cleaned my face with toner and I requested spf which she put on me. Then she left. I looked into a mirror and had all these crusty white specks from god knows what. She couldn't be bothered to wipe it all off for me? And good grief they should use better quality cotton wipes. Half the wipe ended up on my face. I spend 5 minutes picking off cotton and rubbing off white specks. Maybe if they spent more time working on the client then trying to sell to the client that wouldn't have happened. The next day I think my face looked a little better but not better than after other facials I've had. I'm not going back. read more

I was recommended here by a friend and after seeing hr Yelp reviews I decided to give it a try. I visited Toni who was so sweet and lovely to be around while he was doing my facial. I have very sensitive skin and he was able to accommodate me. I had broken out a bit and needed help clearing up my skin and his facial worked wonders for my skin! I can certainly find the same caliber for the same price elsewhere with MUCH better customer service and ambiance. For $130 you have to share a tiny room with someone else with a small half wall. You can hear every word they say. Also I had a bad experience with the front desk people not disclosing their "policies" to me about rescheduling appointments. I ended up with only getting half of a facial and being forced to pay full price. That said, John is a wonderful person and a talented aesthetician but should find a new place to work. First of all, I would have expected everyone here to have good skin, but lo and behold, nobody had really good looking skin here, which worried me. I was put in a claustrophobic little space divided by a curtain next to another client. They put a heat pad under you and soak your face in hot towels before extractions. I couldn't believe with all those extractions, I still had a zit on my face left untouched. Afterwards, they do their galvanic treatment for like 20 minutes. Afterwards, I was red and sweaty from that heat pad. When I got home, my friend asked me if I was breaking out. I did feel clean for a day or two, but that was it. So I frequented the location in New York and thought I would continue on out west at the original location. The staff was friendly enough and it seemed very clean. Those were the highpoints. The treatment was so-so...The facialist was friendly, but didn't come across as very confident. Honestly, I don't think the glavanic mask was plugged in! In the past, when had facials at the NY salon, my skin would be glowing for weeks! When I left my skin did not look so good. In fact, I think the valet gave me a discount on parking because I looked so bad! Do note, the areas are sectioned off between clients with a curtain. I'm regular here and this place has truly changed my face. The techniques are not ordinary, no steam no masks etc. . They offer one type of facial, it starts with your face being wrapped in Yucca root followed by and extreme dose of extractions and ends with a treatment called a glavanic. Your face is first wrapped in cloths soaked in minerals and an electrical line is tied around your face. You can literally taste the metal. Had one facial here about a year ago. Eh, it was only ok. I'm prone to acne, clogged pores and blackheads so I know walking into a spa/ facial place that I'm a bit of a project. However I have been fortunate enough to have had some of the world's best esthetician's treat me so I know a good facial from a only so-so one. For the price of the facial (which I feel is reasonable for a good facial) and the celebrity client that they boast I expected to have clear, glowing skin like I usually do with a great facial. Nope, my skin looked exactly the same as when I walked in... except a lot redder. What I did like: 1) Throughout the process the esthetician explained everything that she was doing, the products that she was using and how it would effect my skin. 2) They did not push their products, in fact they sent me home with small free samples. 3) My esthetician called me a week later to see how I liked the results. All of the above are great customer service practices! However bottom line the treatment did nothing for my skin nor did their products. I have been a client of the Face Place for years, and I don't usually write reviews on Yelp, but I felt compelled to post one today as a counterpoint to some of the negative ones that I've read herein. It's true: the Face Place treatment -- though time-tested, thorough, and incredibly effective -- is not for people who usually get massage-y pamper-y spa facials. But I take issue with the suggestion that the folks there -- from Lynette at the front desk to Paul and Tony, the co-owners, to the other therapists you pass in the hallway - don't do whatever they can to make you feel welcome, comfortable, and taken care of, from the moment you make your appointment on the phone or walk in the door. And the facility is lovely, clean, and serene. I also disagree that a facial of this caliber is so easily found at that price...? And the complaints I am reading from people claiming that "their 'policies' for rescheduling appointments" were not disclosed is utter b.s. - not only is The Face Place 24 hour cancelation policy explained on the phone (I have overheard this conversation time and again when I've been at the desk checking out), but every new client has to SIGN said policy when they come in. So: no need for quotation marks around the word - there is an ACTUAL policy. Furthermore, there is a SIGN on the counter, clear as day, that says "Client will be charged for an appointment not cancelled 24 hours in advance." These people are running a business - and their high reputation is well-earned, but it also means that those appointment times are highly coveted -- so they cannot afford not to ask people to pay for missed appointments, or push the rest of the day's appointments when someone is late. I will tell you that a few times when I have had to cancel within the 24 hour period, and told them I would obviously pay for my slot, they have been able to find someone else to fill it and didn't charge me in the end. Now THAT is what I call good customer service. Other people complained about not being able to return a product after having opened and used part of it. Which begs the question: has ANY cosmetic company allowed you to do such a thing before? In conclusion, I can only suggest to those scanning these reviews to TRY the Face Place for yourself, and you will see that it is not only the best facial in town, but it is a wonderful, inviting place to spend time while taking care of what I call much-needed "upkeep" -- with a family of truly excellent beauty professionals whose business would not have succeeded in the demanding Los Angeles market for FORTY YEARS without knowing a thing or two about customer service! read more

Yesterday I had my first facial (ever) at The Face Place, and I can't recommend it enough. I follow a strict regimen and take good care of my skin, but I'd heard such good things about The Face Place and wanted to step up my routine, so I gave it a try. I particularly wanted to come to The Face Place because I'm not into the frills that go along with normal facials; I just want clean, beautiful, healthy skin. John helped me accomplish all of that, and he was lovely to work with. He described the treatment as "taking your face to the gym", and he was right. My skin looked pretty good before the treatment, but today it's incredible. The Face Place is neither pretentious nor stuffy, and no products are pushed. Actually, I got good advice and tips that will go further than products can! This treatment was just what I wanted. I will definitely go back for another. read more

Thank you John Arrington for revitalizing my skin! I never write reviews, but felt I needed to share this with others having skin issues. I started coming to John almost a year ago. I was suffering from numerous breakouts and tried every product I could get my hands on. I heard great things and thought I would try the Face Place. John took the time to ask questions and evaluate my skin and come up with a schedule to get my skin back in order. He explained every step and purpose of the facial. After the first visit I noticed a change in the texture and less break outs. I continued to come once a week for a month. Definitely worth the price, I was able to get rid of all the products I was using and made the switch to the spa's products. I never felt any pressure to purchase these items, but from the progress my skin made I'm glad I did. I have been going to Face Place for a few years now, having followed Eugenia Berchenko, RN from her previous place of work. I do not believe in radical procedures of any kind -- but am perfectly happy to keep my features as youthful as possible without distortion... A bit of botox between the brows, a light application of Bella Terra to some deep creases forming on my top lip -- is all I'm willing to do. Enough so that I don't look constantly angry or sad (as the creases pile up with time) -- but not so much that I cannot move the muscles... And Eugenia is so mindful of my parameters. She never upsells other products or procedures, and more significantly, she handles the needles she uses with such care that they don't leave a single mark or bruise (and I bruise easily). Not really worth it for 100 dollar facials. It's definitely not relaxing and if you don't pay extra or get booked with one of the "senior" facialists, oftentimes they make you share a room with another customer while you're getting a facial. I know they are supposed to specialize in anti-aging, but come on...facials should be effective AND relaxing and I shouldn't have to share a room. I recommend Arcona instead. read more
