My tenant burnt the oven/stove heat sensor after self cleaning. They charged $290 for a replacement, the sensor only costs less than $10. They spent less than an hour in repair and not sure why it could justify the cost!! I gave them 2 star because they did fix the issue. read more

On Friday, I called Factor Appliance to make an appointment to repair my oven and refrigerator. The oven had to be fixed ASAP and the refrigerator was not urgent. The scheduler was friendly and very helpful. She was able to send Godfried and Tyrone on the followingTuesday. Tyrone called to confirm the that he was on his way, came in wearing mask, gloves and shoe coverings.He was professional, courteous and efficient. The repair was completed quickly. Godfried also called to conform his arrival. He attended to the refrigerator and found that it needed a part as well as one for the ice maker. The parts were ordered and he will return as soon as they come in. Tyrone was pleasant, diligent and worked efficiently. He called the next day to let me know that the parts did not arrive but would check in the next day. I called Factor Appliance to look at my Sub Zero fridge that wasn't cooling properly, and was able to promptly schedule a visit with Adrian to diagnose the issue. He quickly diagnosed the problem and talked me through what he needed to do to fix the issue, but also encouraged me to look at buying a new unit instead. I really appreciated the honesty given that he wouldn't have made any money had we bought a new unit. Once I decided to fix the fridge, Adrian came on the next Saturday to do the repairs. I was blown away that he was willing to work on a weekend to accommodate my schedule. During the repair, Adrian was very willing to talk me through what he was doing and how the fridge works (I'm interested in such things so this was a plus for me). This is a very mixed review. At the end of the day, the repair was completed and we now have a functioning oven again. It was just repaired, so I can't attest to the longevity of the repair. However, the road to completing the repair required had a lot of hassle and management by us to get it done. Incredible given the quantity of positive reviews here, so perhaps we were outliers, but never-the-less felt that we had to provide an honest assessment of our experience. I will not hire this vendor again. Here are the full details: On the evening of December 16, our oven stopped working mid-cook. Just wouldn't heat. Knowing a few things about ovens, I checked the elements (common cause of failure) and found them to be working fine, checked a few other things but decided to call a highly rated appliance repair place vs. continue to spend time on it. On December 17, I made a list of three from Angie's that I was going to call. On the first call, I called Factor and talked to a woman who said they could have someone out that afternoon. I accepted the appointment and made no further inquiry to the other vendors. On the afternoon of Dec 17, Tyrone arrived. He spoke with my wife who was the one home at the time, he diagnosed the issue to be a faulty Temperature Sensor that needed to be replaced. He quoted $231.60 for the repair and wrote up a work order stating the same. Tyrone said he didn't have the part, so he'd have to come back. My wife said she wanted to discuss with me and that we would call either way (to either proceed or not). On the evening of Dec 17, we called the number that Tyrone had written on the work order as his to contact him. It was an out of service number as written. We tried a few variations and ultimately found one that connected with a anonymous voicemail. We left a message, although we were unsure it was the correct number. On December 18, I called the office (the original number where we had made the appointment from) who took a message that we wanted to proceed with the repair and said that they would pass it to Tyrone and have him call us. Holidays came upon us and we didn't hear from anyone. We got busy ourselves and didn't reach back out to the Factor office again until December 30. The office again took a message and said that they would have Tyrone reach back out to us. We didn't hear anything from anyone. On January 8, I sent a message via Angie's list to Factor. This time I did get a response from Adrian who was surprised by our issues and had Tyrone reach back out to us. On January 11, I talked to Tyrone (we confirmed that I had the wrong number originally) and he stated he never got any messages and didn't know we wanted to proceed with the repair. He said he'd look at inventory for the part needed and his schedule and get back to me. On January 15, my wife received a call from Tyrone that she wasn't able to take at that time. She texted me and I called him directly. He stated that he was at the house and that we had an appointment. He asked if I had gotten the e-mail from the office. I said hadn't received any communication about the appointment. I said we could be there in 20 minutes (we were at the offices) and he said he had to go to another appointment, but would look at his appointments and get back to us. On January 16, since I hadn't heard from Tyrone, I texted him our availability for the following week. He replied that he was available on Wednesday Jan 20 and we confirmed the time. He then asked me for the model and serial number of the unit to be texted to him. I did so (sent a pic) but thought it was strange since he should have already had the info from the service call (and presumably he had the part when he came out on Jan 15. On January 20, Tyrone arrived past the time window he had provided (I had left but my wife stayed until he arrived) but did get to work quickly installing the part. After it was installed, the oven was still not heating. He told my wife that he thought it could be another issue, but that he didn't have that part on him. He said would be back the next day with the other part. On January 21, Tyrone arrived installed the new part and retested the oven, successfully repairing the unit. He cleaned up, we paid the invoice he presented for $231.60, the amount originally quoted to us. He did apologize for the confusion and all of the mis-communication. One note: I did notice that one of the trim pieces had been re-installed upside down. 10 minutes of work and I fixed it, but still it was pretty noticeably on backwards. All in all, the repair in total was $231.60 plus the $80 initial service call charge we paid. I found Tyrone to be a very personable guy. read more

I had a very positive experience with Factor Appliance, something rare with DC area repairs! My washer stopped working. Factor uses a 24/7 call center for easy scheduling. Tyrone came and diagnosed it as a faulty mother board. Juan returned and installed it. Both were efficient and well trained particularly with the complicated electronics of today's appliances and both were very personable. I would have given them five stars except they're expensive - $80 just to show up, an additional $40 visit charge if you ask them to look at a second appliance, plus labor and parts. Tips: The schedule is a week out but you can call back and ask about cancellations and get your appointment moved up. The first appointment of the day is really 8:30 am, so expect them about 30 minutes after your scheduled time. The technicians have leeway on pricing, so it's a good idea to ask for a discount. read more

Additionally, the receptionist is employed by an answering service with which Factor Appliance has a contract. He made an appointment for me for next week. Original review: I called to see if they could service my Kenmore HE washing machine, and the woman who answered my call was extremely rude and condescending. She told me they didn't service stackable washing machines, so I asked if that meant they didn't service any HE machines ever (since they're all stackable), and she just restated that they don't services stackable machines. She was rude and extremely disrespectful. I called back to speak with a manager, and while one wasn't immediately available, a different person answered the call, apologized, and took my contact info for a manager to call me back. The repairman came perfectly on time, diagnosed the problem, ordered the part, came back two days later and installed the part. When you find that you need a repair, the dread begins: Cost, effectiveness of the repairman, etc. Forget that with Factor Appliance! update: we called Factor again when the dryer died. Adrian sent over a super friendly employee to take a look at things the very next day. he had the dryer apart pretty quickly, and then SHOWED me (not just told me) what was wrong with the nonfunctional part. after an honest discussion about the pros and cons of repair vs new dryer purchase, he headed out to pick up the necessary part and was back within a couple of hours to install it. pow! dryer back in action right away. this is all a far cry from other appliance places that want to charge you first for a diagnostic appointment, and then again later for the repair, and the fees from Factor are very fair. read more

Short and sweet. Bob came in and determined the problem in less than 10 mins. And he have not even worked on a Kenmore "Laundry Center" type - ever. The washing machine was leaking water after it halted while trying to drain out the water. I thought the tub cracked at the top when water started spitting out. He correctly pointed out that the water drain pump was stuck, thus causing the water to spin out. Think about it. The water was spilling at the top of the washing machine and the drain pump is at the bottom. I was ready to replace the laundry center but Bob saved me that major expense. Bob was super knowledgeable. I'd hire them and recommend them to my friends anytime. read more

Had our fridge fan replaced only to discover that wasn't the problem -- it needed a new circuit board. As a result, it required two trips by the technician. But he was very courteous and fair -- eliminated the cost of the fan from the total bill -- so we were overall very pleased by the experience. read more
